Lifestyle consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have such generous companies in the area who know a thing or two about what’s going to be in style as the weather cools around here. Marcy Sparr and Annie Lang run a marvelous fashion boutique in Kildeer called LUXE wearhouse. A casual observer (who happens to be the father of two adult daughters who shop smart and always look great) knows that the cozy chic of Marcy and Annie is emblematic of the SW Lake lifestyle. Denim, fringe, lace, leather, comfortable and personal is the easiest way to describe the fall fashions that grace several pages of this issue. Joy Jones is an event designer and planner relatively new to the area. Her passion – throwing great events – has turned into a business (Joy Jones Planning & Design Co.). Recently, Joy pulled together a wide cross-section of area professionals to

Children Are at Risk of Developing Varicose Veins. While you’re getting the kids ready for the upcoming school year – buying school supplies, making sure immunizations are up to date, and getting sports physicals – take a moment to check on their circulatory health. While it’s more common among older adults, children can also develop varicose veins.
What Are Varicose Veins? They are identified by the curving dark veins that bulge from the surface of the skin and are accompanied by pain, fatigue, discomfort, and swelling of the legs and ankles. +80 million people suffer from varicose vein disease. If left untreated, varicose veins are likely to produce persistent leg and ankle pain and lead to more serious health issues down the road.
Vein Disease Is Hereditary. Nearly 80% of people with varicose veins have a family history of the disease. Children whose parents or close relatives suffer from varicose veins are at risk of developing the disease in their early teens.
Don’t Ignore the Warning Signs. It's recommended that children genetically predisposed to vein disease be evaluated by a board-certified vein specialist. This precaution ensures that conditions such as vein disease are properly identified and treated. At Illinois Vein Specialists, our vein treatment is painless, minimally invasive and only takes an hour to complete.

e t a m i t l U e h t is t n e m e t a t S n o i h s a F THERE'S NO TREND HOTTER OR ACCESSORY MORE COVETED THAN A BODY IN GREAT SHAPE. A fit body radiates confidence, strength and self-respect. It isn’t just about the clothes you wear, but the body that they drape and cover. The ideal body is NOT a skinny one, but a fit one. Fitness is not defined simply as a lack of illness and disease, but rather as a holistic state of well-being where your mental, physical and emotional health are all in sync. When what you see in the mirror (your body) and how you feel (your mind) are aligned, you live in an emotional state of harmony. Insecurities can be cast aside, and you send to the world a clear and consistent message that says “I feel good about me.” I find many people think of exercise in the context of cardio, crunches, sweat-dripping-high-intensity workouts and flawless fitness models on the cover of a magazine. I used to think that's what exercise was, too. Society tells us it is. But moving your body to a level of fitness that suits

you is about so much more. Like improved thinking. Stronger relationships. Expressing confidence in all things you do. Happiness and strength in all aspects of life. Exercise releases endorphins, your body’s natural “happy drug” that cleanses your mind while delivering a sense of self-accomplishment and gratification. The mood enhancing benefits of exercise for just 20 minutes a day can last up to 12 hours or longer. Exercise gives your body tone, shape and a physique you can be proud of. People of all genders, ages, shapes, sizes and walks of life say they have a better quality of life with fewer physical limitations when they are physically active.

WITH THE CHANGE OF SEASON COMES TIME FOR PARTIES, GALAS AND HOLIDAY GATHERINGS. As the temperatures get cooler, the social scene heats up. If you are in a party-throwing mood, here’s a few simple steps to take for throwing a memorable event. DEVELOP A BUDGET Budget is developed by the amount you are willing and financially capable of spending in order to accomplish your goal. This is different and unique for every event and every host. If serving filet mignon for 50 guests is a must-have, then the budget will need to be significantly larger than when serving finger foods at a tea party. DETERMINE A GUEST COUNT Be sure to divide your budget amount by each guest in order to determine the cost allocated per guest. This will give you an understanding on whether the budget should be increased (or the guest count decreased). KNOW YOUR GUESTS Be sure to accommodate your guests by providing different meal and drink options for dietary purposes, personal preferences and health needs. A nice, balanced variety is always a good idea. If you know 75% of your guests don’t drink your beverages should lean more to the creative non-alcoholic side. FOOD A party is not a party unless you have good food! Put some thought, effort and money behind the food. No host wants a situation where the food is meh since it will leave guests frustrated and hungry as they depart your event and head to the nearest fast food joint.

FASHION THIS FALL IS ALL ABOUT COZY CHIC. The trend is toward real clothes that are easy to wear, comfortable and totally in style. Look for effortless fashion that boasts plenty of flair with exciting trends in prints, details and textures. For our photo shoot with the team from SW Lake Lifestyle we absolutely took inspiration from the beautiful grounds of Vehe Barn in Deer Park. It’s really a pretty special place. We loved the idea of being in a setting of such relevant local history. The rustic beauty of the historic barns, natural flowers and stonework all complement the cozy chic fall trends perfectly. We’re excited that fashion now offers something for everyone. Look for fun prints this fall in floral, camo or plaid. Chic textures like lace and cable knit will add a new dimension to a fall look. Details like fringe, embroidery, ruffles, flare sleeves and shoulder-baring tops will add an edge to an outfit. The goal is to find what speaks to you. When the weather starts to get cooler color trends typically shift from the pastel and bright shades of summer to richer, warmer hues that reflect the autumn season. Wool, cashmere and heavier cottons become key fabrics as we start to layer for fall. Textures like chunky knits, cabled sweaters, and fringe and suede details all add to the feel of fall. We are always asked about the essential items to build a fall wardrobe around. This year it starts with a great-fitting pair of jeans. The jeans can transition from a casual daytime look to a night out. Other fall wardrobe fundamentals are a cozy sweater, a moto jacket, a tee for layering, a neutral ankle boot, a printed blouse and a statement necklace or earring. Always look for items that fit your body and style and with the right key pieces and a few fun accessories, you can mix and match for almost any occasion. MONTESSORI SCHOOL OF LONG GROVE BRINGS EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING OUTDOORS ARTICLE SARA BLUE | PHOTOGRAPHY AMSTUTZ FAMILY FARM
AT THE MONTESSORI SCHOOL OF LONG GROVE, THE CLASSROOM EXTENDS BEYOND FOUR WALLS. An important part of the curriculum in all levels includes “going out.” Our elementary-aged children spent a week in May at The Country Experience – Amstutz Family Farm in Elizabeth, Illinois. The Country Experience is a working farm, built for meaningful fun. The children used hands-on experiences and real-world tools to build an appreciation for the value of time and effort, learn respect for life and nature, and develop important life skills including communication, responsibility, decision-making, teamwork, and respect for self and others. As a class, the children were able to get inside the fences to care for the animals, gardens and each other. These are real-life activities on the farm, so instead of “imagine you need to . . .” they actually go out and experience it - feed the animals; plant and harvest in the garden; prepare, serve and clean-up after meals; and enjoy lots of free-range fun. Decisionmaking has real outcomes; cooperation (or lack thereof) is clear to see; and the community of kids builds confidence, awareness of self and others, and an appreciation for life and complexity. These experiences, the environment and the Montessori philosophy allow children to experience life and learn about themselves, their abilities and their place in the world. “My vision of the future is no longer of people taking exams and proceeding on that certification from the secondary school to the university, but of individuals passing from one stage of independence to a higher, by means of their own activity, through their own effort of will, which constitutes the inner evolution of the individual” – Dr. Maria Montessori To learn more visit montessorilonggrove.org and thecountryexperience.com.
