Diamonds in Your Own Backyard
July has always felt like the month of exploration. The days unfold with endless possibility, awakening a collective urge to leave the familiar behind and see where the road takes us.
This summer, I took that urge quite literally. I spent a week traveling through Washington D.C. and New York City, taking in the incredible history, food, towering skyscrapers, and fast-paced energy of two of our nation’s metropolises. It was an amazing adventure, and it gave me a whole new appreciation for the beauty and charm we have right here in our own corner of the world. The trip was already spectacular, but it became a chapter I will remember forever: amidst all that exploring, I officially got engaged!
Coming home with a full heart (and a new ring), I realized that the best part of traveling is the fresh eyes it gives you when you return. You don't have to board a flight to be an explorer; some of the best discoveries happen right in our own neighborhoods.
In this issue, we are highlighting exactly what local exploration can look like, whether it’s cheering on the Naturals on a sun-drenched afternoon, or if it’s hunting down the best burgers in town; whether it’s wandering below Onyx into the works of local creators at Hello Local, or if it’s exploring the unlimited possibilities at Neighborhood Storage & Workspace. Better yet, your adventure can cover all the bases.
So, what’s your next adventure? Maybe it’s dreaming up a new creative space, discovering a local artist, or, like me, embarking on a brand-new life chapter. This July, I hope you find magic right where your feet are planted.

The Springdale Burger Reviews
KEITH NEEL (BEAR LIKE THINGS) GIVES US REVIEWS, ORDERS, AND TOP BURGER BREAKDOWNS
ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY
KEITH NEEL
Keith Neel Bear Like Things
How does one become the Burger Bear?
It really started when I was a kid, sharing burgers with my dad. Those simple moments sparked my love for a good burger and the stories that come with it.
Fast forward to 2023, and I began sharing that passion on social media through Bear Like Things, highlighting great burgers, local spots, and the places that make this area special. What started as something fun quickly turned into a way to connect with others who appreciate a solid bite as much as I do.
I’ve worked in downtown Springdale for 14 years, and I always jokingly say it’s “bear territory.” Over time, I’ve come to realize that Springdale has a strong burger scene. Last year, I had the honor of serving as a judge at the annual NWA Miracle League Burger Competition in downtown Springdale, which was a blast.
After all these years (and plenty of burgers), I’d love to share a few of my favorites with you.
Patrick's Burgers
3976 Elm Springs Rd, Springdale, AR 72762
No Springdale burger list would be complete without Patrick's, an original local favorite and a true staple of the community. This place is burger nostalgia. With 55 years of flipping burgers, they've clearly mastered the craft.
There is a distinct, seasoned flavor you can only get from a flat-top that's been working hard since the seventies. If you're craving a classic, old-fashioned burger done right, this is the spot that hits the mark.
The Bear's Order: Double Bacon Cheeseburger (bacon, mustard, ketchup, and pickles)
Pleasant Counter
907 S Pleasant St, Springdale, AR 72764
Pleasant Counter made an immediate impact on the Springdale burger scene with a smashburger that quickly had everyone talking, and for good reason. Known for using local ingredients and grass-fed beef, they've truly got this burger dialed in.
That dedication paid off when they took home top honors at the Northwest Arkansas Miracle League Burger Competition in 2023 with this standout burger. Pleasant Counter has set the bar high when it comes to a smashburger.
The Bear's Order: Double Smashburger (American cheese, grilled onions, house Japanese mayo, organic ketchup, add pickles)
Gaskins
on Emma
100 W Emma Ave #115, Springdale, AR 72764
While Gaskins is primarily recognized as a premier dinner destination, its weekday lunch menu offers a hidden gem: exceptional burgers.
As you'd expect from a steakhouse, the quality of the beef truly shines in their burgers. Chef Sam Walker takes a minimalist approach to the classic burger. His simple execution highlights the caliber of the ingredients, demonstrating that a great burger doesn't require excessive toppings to excel.
The Bear's Order: Gaskins Smash Burger (shallot jam, pickles, white cheddar)
Westside Burger & Grill
3896 Elm Springs Rd, Springdale, AR 72762
Another longtime favorite in Springdale, this burger joint has been winning over locals since 1995. There's nothing quite like the sound of patties sizzling on the flat-top as you place your order.
Westside serves up burgers made with Black Angus beef, and the consistently packed lunch crowd tells you all you need to know. It's the kind of place where you might find yourself enjoying your burger right out in the parking lot and not minding it one bit.
The Bear's Order: Double Bacon Cheeseburger (bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles)
Na'guara
3445 S Old Missouri Rd, Springdale, AR 72764
This is where we take a step away from your typical burger.
Na'guara, a Venezuelan food truck at Broadwalk Food Truck Park in Springdale, brings bold Latin flavors to the table. They serve up unique, culture-inspired burgers that skip the usual toppings—no pickles here. Instead, you'll find sweet corn, crispy potato sticks, and a rich garlic sauce piled high.
And for the cheese lovers: they don't hold back.
It's the perfect spot to break your burger routine.
The Bear's Order: Bacon Cheeseburger (bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, corn, potato sticks, and signature garlic sauce)
Ray Dubbz – Soul Food and More
(Moved to England, Arkansas, but worth the drive!)
Located on the outskirts of Springdale, Ray Dubbz is a standout food truck celebrated for its warm hospitality and delicious comfort food. Though widely recognized for soul food classics such as pork chops, ribs, and fried catfish, their cheeseburger is pretty dang good and a must-try.
It easily claims the title of the biggest burger on this list. One bite in and it's easy to see that the food here is made with love and a little extra soul.
The Bear's Order: Cheeseburger (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mustard, ketchup)
Hello, Local
Inside Hello Local and the Northwest Arkansas makers who bring the shop to life.
For nearly three decades, Mark Cloud has called Northwest Arkansas home. After moving to the region in 1997, he quickly developed an appreciation for its entrepreneurial spirit, creative energy, and strong sense of community. Today, he helps share that appreciation through Hello Local, a gift shop dedicated to showcasing products made by the people who live and work in Northwest Arkansas.
Located inside Onyx Coffee Lab in Springdale, Hello Local brings together a wide variety of locally made goods, from pottery and candles to skincare products, apparel, artwork, and specialty gifts. The shop serves as both a retail space and a platform for local entrepreneurs, helping connect customers with the makers behind the products they purchase. Rather than searching across multiple markets, festivals, and storefronts, shoppers can discover a collection of Northwest Arkansas talent in one convenient location.
Hello Local also makes gift-giving easy. Customers can build custom gift boxes for friends, family members, coworkers, and clients, while businesses can work with the team to create larger orders for employees, customer appreciation gifts, and special events. For those unable to visit the store, a selection of products is available online with free local delivery.
The following makers represent just a few of the artists, creators, and entrepreneurs whose products help tell the story of Northwest Arkansas through Hello Local.

Fabulous Flatbread
This dish is from Chef Evon Profitt, the director of culinary operations for all of Westside Concepts in Arizona. This flatbread with grilled peaches, house-made rosemary paneer cheese, soppressata, fresh mint, and pistachios with a balsamic drizzle is to die for.
Grilled Peach Flatbread with House-Made Rosemary Paneer Cheese
Yield: 4 flatbreads
INGREDIENTS:
• 2 peaches cut into 8 pieces each
• 12 slices soppressata or any salami
• Fresh mint
• 1 tbsp. olive oil
• ¼ cup pistachios, chopped
• Balsamic reduction
• 4 baked naan bread
FOR THE PANEER CHEESE:
• 6 cups whole milk
• 2 tbsp. rice wine vinegar
• ½ tbsp. fresh rosemary, chopped
• 1 tsp. kosher salt
HOW TO MAKE PANEER CHEESE:
Paneer cheese is made by curdling milk using an acidic additive such as lemon juice or vinegar. Paneer cheese does not use any kind of rennet, nor fermentation or aging.
In a pot, bring 6 cups of whole milk to 200 degrees. Once milk has reached temp., stir in the 2 tbsp. of vinegar and turn off heat; milk will begin to separate. Allow milk to curd for 5 minutes, strain whey and curds into a cheesecloth-lined colander. Transfer curds to a mixing bowl and add chopped rosemary and 1 tsp. kosher salt, mix ingredients together, reserve the cheesecloth for the next step. Place the curds back into the cheesecloth, pull the corners of the cloth together, ring out excess whey from the curds, and hang for 30 minutes to continue draining. Once the curds have drained, place cheesecloth-wrapped curds back into the colander and place a heavy item on top, in order to press the curds into shape and press more of the whey from the cheese, for 3-4 hours. Use cheese fresh or keep refrigerated up to 4 days.
FLATBREAD:
Brush olive oil onto both sides of naan flatbread, and place in oven on rack for 10 minutes at 400 degrees, or grill for 2 minutes each side. Grill peach slices for 2 minutes each side, or place in oiled sauté pan till each side begins to caramelize. On a cutting board, lay flatbread down, and place grilled peach slices around flatbread. Take small pieces of Paneer cheese and place throughout over the peaches. Be creative and find place for the soppressata or salami of your choice. Garnish with crushed pistachios and torn fresh mint. Cut flatbread, transfer to serving plates, and drizzle with balsamic reduction.
“I love the use of fresh, locally sourced peaches, and giving people the chance to make an easy, versatile cheese at home with ingredients that many already have in their refrigerators and pantries.”
NORTHWEST ARKANSAS’ PASTIME
INSIDE THE COMMUNITY AND TRADITIONS OF NATURALS BASEBALL
To step into a baseball stadium is to participate in a timeless American ritual. All the senses are activated. The crack of the bat, the murmur of the crowd, the nostalgic ballpark smell. The mythology of the game—stats, stories, and superstitions—turns the atmosphere into an entire ecosystem of experience.
ARTICLE BY BO SIMPSON PHOTOGRAPHY BY MICHELLE BAZIS
In Northwest Arkansas, a Naturals game blends small-town Americana with the energy of one of the country’s fastest growing regions. Every summer, families gather under stadium lights for hot dogs, fireworks, and good, old-fashioned ballgames.
As a Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, the Naturals offer fans an opportunity to watch future major league talent before the rest of the country gets the chance. Alumni include Bobby Witt Jr., Salvador Perez, and Eric Hosmer.
The Naturals bring to Arvest Ballpark an intimate atmosphere without losing any of the liveliness of ballpark tradition. Sightlines are good from anywhere in the stadium, which is easy to navigate, and the tickets are affordable. What’s more, the overall vibe is intentionally family-oriented and community-centered.
A unique culture has formed around the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. People from all over the region gather for the experience. Little league kids run around in team jerseys, cheering on their favorite players, and many sport Naturals jerseys and merchandise. Meanwhile, longtime fans and former baseballers reminisce in the stands.
Locals are invited to participate in the rituals alongside game day staff. A student choir may sing the national anthem to kick off the game, and there’s a good chance you’ll hear a young kid announce, “Play ball!” with fans of all ages leading stadium cheers.
A number of traditions can be regularly anticipated as well. Postgames on Friday nights light up the sky with fireworks. On Sundays, kids run around the bases. At every game, kids will gather around the dugouts for autographs, baseballs, and interactions with the coaches and players.
Conversations here flow as naturally as the innings themselves. Families catch up between pitches, kids lean over the railings hoping for a foul ball, and longtime fans keep scorecards or debate players and prospects from seasons past. Even people who rarely follow baseball find themselves pulled into the rhythms of the evening. The pace of the game invites people to settle in, slow down, and stay present for a few hours under the stadium lights.
The ritual of America’s Pastime brings together many of the things people crave most: community, tradition, competition, and entertainment. Here, the baseball players are heroes, the flow of the game structures the evening, and ballpark fun becomes an embedded memory that families carry home with them.
Naturals games are Northwest Arkansas’ Pastime. Year after year, families return to Arvest Ballpark for the traditions, the atmosphere, and the simple enjoyment of a summer evening at the ballpark. The players change, the seasons pass, and the standings reset, but the ritual remains much the same.

3. Reduce the heat on the simmering syrup to low and scrape in the toasted marshmallows. Whisk until the marshmallows are fully melted and smooth. Remove from heat.
4. Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature. DO NOT STIR to allow syrup to separate.

The 10% Target Mindset
Jen Cohen ON THE PRACTICE OF ASKING FOR WHAT YOU WANT
Winnipeg in the winter, and a 17-year-old waits 45 minutes in the cold for Keanu Reeves. Her fingers are numb. She is not there for an autograph. She is there to ask him to appear in her audition tape for MuchMusic, Canada’s MTV. When he finally agrees, she writes her number on a gum wrapper with a borrowed lip liner.
He calls days later.
That 17-year-old was Jen Cohen — fitness expert, host of the Habits & Hustle podcast, and best-selling author. She has built a career on the premise her frostbitten afternoon proved. She calls the practice the 10% Target: 10 attempts at whatever you want most in life.
The premise is simple. Most people never make one attempt. Almost nobody makes two. The math works in favor of the person who keeps going.
The top-rated Habits & Hustle podcast has logged hundreds of conversations with high performers and the people who study what the body does to the mind. Her TEDx talk, The Secret to Getting Anything You Want in Life, has traveled widely inside Fortune 500 sales-training rooms. On the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Cohen sits down to share the working rules that are the foundation of her latest book, Bigger, Better, Bolder.
“You have to be the CEO of your own life.”
FEATURING JEN COHEN
Discover the full 10% Target Mindset framework.
1 2
MAKE TEN ATTEMPTS
The door opens, or another door does. The unmade attempt and the refused one leave you in the same place — except one of them teaches you something.
STACK THE DECK
Cohen frames her habits as a wager: How do I stack the deck so I win more than I lose? The workout happens first, and the food decisions follow. The email follow-up gets sent, and the answer arrives. The choices compound in a single direction.
3
DISCIPLINE IS A PRACTICED SKILL, NOT AN INHERITANCE
No one is born with it. The people who look disciplined are running a routine they have rehearsed long enough that it no longer feels like effort. The reps are the skill. Miss them, and the skill fades, the same as any other.
4
SELF-TALK ONLY WORKS WHEN THE BODY BACKS IT UP
Confidence does not arrive by repeating the word. It arrives after the body has done the thing — the workout finished, the cold walk endured, the email sent. The mind takes its cues from what the body proves it can do. Talk follows action, not the other way around.
5
NEVER MISS A MONDAY
The first decision sets the slope of the rest. Skip the Monday workout, and the rest of the week tends to follow. Hold the line on Monday, and the slope tilts the other way.

TAKE YOUR NEXT VACATION WITH EFFORTLESS FLAIR
YOU WORK HARD ALL YEAR—YOUR VACATION STYLE SHOULD FEEL CINEMATIC, EFFORTLESS, AND UNMISTAKABLY MAIN CHARACTER.
ARTICLE BY COURTNEY STONE SMITH PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Effortless vacation style isn’t about having the perfect outfit for every moment—it’s about having the right foundation to make every moment look intentional. When you know how to build a capsule travel wardrobe, you’ll avoid agonizing over what to wear and spend more time actually enjoying your getaway, all while looking like you have a personal stylist tucked in your carry-on.
Here’s your go-to list for this season’s travels:
1. THE EFFORTLESS STATEMENT SET
A coordinated two-piece (linen, silk, or cotton) that transitions from day to night. Sets are easy to wear, photograph, and offers effortless ways to look put together. Bonus: you can mix and match the pieces with other items that you pack. I would recommend packing multiple sets to make it even easier to mix and match. For both men and women, simply focus on neutrals and, if you want to add color, make sure it coordinates well with other items in your luggage.
2. THE MOOD-ALTERING PIECE
A sweeping dress in a bold print or luscious fabric that makes you feel sensual, grounded, and free. Find something that moves with you and captures light beautifully. This is your dreamy piece— flowy fabrics with movement that captures the eye and works for any kind of event.
3. THE LUXE FLAT OR SCULPTURAL SANDAL
Find footwear that balances style and comfort. Look for interesting shapes or materials (like leather with architectural cutouts or metallic finishes). More than shoes—they’re anchors for adventure, grounding your aesthetic wherever you land. This goes the same for men. Your footwear can also make an impact through the braided details of your sandals or the canvas of a casual slip-on loafer.
4. THE TRANSITIONAL THIRD PIECE
Think: kimono, over-sized linen blazer, a lightweight duster, or a gauzy button-down left open. This is your layering hero that adds polish without effort. It’s an aura amplifier that instantly makes your outfit feel styled and intentional.
5. INTERESTING AND IMPACTFUL SUNGLASSES
Sunglasses with personality is a must. They could be over-sized, cat-eye, or tinted lenses that feel more like “cinematic escape” than “just functional.” Because you’re not sightseeing—you’re starring in your own travel film.
A bag that holds your essentials but looks like art— think woven textures, unique shapes, or buttery leather. Practicality meets poetry. You deserve a vessel that carries your dreams...and your SPF.
7. SIGNATURE SCENT OR TRAVEL CANDLE
Pack travel-sized fragrance or a tiny candle that evokes your essence or complements the location. Scent is meant to ignite memories and set the tone— infuse your travels with an olfactory signature.
8. ACCESSORIES WITH A STORY
A few intentional pieces such as a ring from a market you found during your travels, a layered necklace that serves as an easy throw-on, or a straw hat to protect your face from the sun (even if it’s a cooler climate, because remember, safety first: don’t get burnt).
or enhancing your smile, you’ll leave looking and feeling your best.
