The Magic of Your Story: Strength in Every Chapter

May has always felt like a turning point—a time when everything starts to bloom, not just in nature but within us too. It’s a month that reminds me of how resilient and powerful we are as women, even when we don’t always feel that way.

This issue is about celebrating that quiet strength—the way we keep going when things feel impossible, the way we lift each other up when someone else can’t stand on their own, and the way we find joy even after heartbreak. The women featured in these pages are proof of that strength. They’ve faced setbacks, taken risks, and created something beautiful—not because it was easy, but because they were brave enough to try.

I think sometimes we forget just how strong we are. We downplay our successes, question our decisions, and convince ourselves that we’re not enough. But the truth is—we are. You are. Right now, exactly as you are. And if you need proof, just look at the women around you. The trailblazers, the dreamers, the caretakers— the ones who face life head-on, even when it throws them curveballs. The ones who have walked through fire and still found a way to rise.

Being a woman isn’t always easy. There’s pressure to be everything to everyone, to keep it all together, to put on a brave face even when you feel like you’re falling apart inside. But strength isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up—for yourself and for others—even when you’re not sure how it’s all going to work out. It’s about trusting that you’re enough, just as you are.

So, as you read through this issue, I hope you feel inspired to embrace your own story—the messy, beautiful, complicated parts of it. Because that’s where the magic is. And I hope you remember that you’re never walking this path alone. We rise together. Always.

With love,

Trailblazing Women: Breaking Barriers & Finding Their Path to Success

INSPIRATIONAL INSIGHTS TO NAVIGATE LIFE—AND ALL ITS ROCKY EDGES—WITH CONFIDENCE AND PURPOSE

ARTICLE BY PATRANYA BHOOLSUWAN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY CASEY JADE

Wendi Schweigart Founder, Project Marilyn Inc.

"Instead of living a life of obligation, how do you live a life of inspiration?"

This reminder from her late mother is what drives Wendi Schweigart every day.

"My mom passed away from cancer in 2011. She was my inspiration for starting Project Marilyn," said Wendi. "I want to help people, and we do that by combatting period poverty, which affects so many women in our community."

Wendi says her mom also left behind other life lessons she is passing on to the younger generation, including her

13-year-old son: Resilience, tenacity, and always remembering that tomorrow is a new day.

Wendi is also the Marketing Director for NDL Group Inc. and the current President of CREW Las Vegas. This latter role is helping to amplify her leadership role among women in her field.

"Leadership isn't about being at the front, it's about empowering others to rise with you," said Wendi. "Through resilience and collaboration, we've learned that true strength lies in lifting others up, especially in the face of adversity."

Bridget Richards

"I didn’t take the conventional route into this industry. There was no roadmap, no set blueprint for success. But along the way, the right people saw something in me. I had great mentors who gave me the support and opportunities that changed the course of my career—and the rest, as they say, is history,” Bridget Richards stated.

Fast forward 20 years, Bridget is now a leader in Commercial Real Estate brokerage, marketing, and development. Getting here meant finding her “main character” voice in an industry where women were often in supporting roles.

"When I started, there were only a handful of women of stature in the entire industry," Bridget recalled. "One of them was Lucinda Stanley, one of the few who actively mentored younger women. I saw her speak at an event with such confidence and poise that I knew I had to reach out. I didn’t expect anything to come of it, but she responded—and that opportunity as her assistant became the foundation for my career."

That early mentorship opened the door, but it was often the men in the industry who propelled Bridget to burst through. The Las Vegas commercial real

estate ecosystem is a meritocracy—everything is earned, not given, regardless of gender. "They showed me how to own the room," she said. "How to be forward in a meeting, put my hands on the table, and speak from my gut and my heart. They helped me realize my power, and that changed everything."

Her advice to women looking to break through? "Be tenacious. Relentlessly prepare. Find your voice, speak with authority, and claim your space. No one can refute your position if you are prepared."

China Hedry

Balancing motherhood and a business is not for the faint of heart. China Hedry learned this firsthand when she took co-ownership of Envision Dance and Gymnastics three months after having her second baby.

"It was crazy, I am not going to lie,” said China. “But It was also really fun!"

This mother of two girls under the age of seven, wife, teacher, and entrepreneur said the secret to success is to surround yourself with the right people and to set your boundaries. "I have a very supportive husband and the best business partner who understands what needs to take precedence to stay sane and productive!"

"My advice for anyone wanting to start a business? Just do it and do it before you think you are ready,” said Bre Acosta.

Entrepreneur, teacher, national title winning dance coach, Bre has done it all and has done it well. But she admits the path to success has not always been smooth. When times get tough, Bre said what keeps her going is her passion to teach and to remember to see the "best intent" in everyone around her.

“Life is not perfect. People get upset. Things happen. But if we see everyone with their best intentions, we create understanding, not conflict,” Bre explained.

Rishma Khimji is getting ready to celebrate her third anniversary at Harry Reid International Airport. She is the facility's first ever Chief Information Technology Officer. She brings more than two decades worth of information technology experience, including more than a decade in the public sector.

"This is a significant milestone and a true honor to be the first," said Rishma. "I'm proud to represent technology and strategy as our international airport embarks on a transformative journey in the coming years."

Rishma Khimji

Chief Information Technology Officer, Harry Reid International Airport

As the first-born daughter of immigrants from East Africa, Rishma was born in Canada and raised in New Mexico. She said her family has always instilled in her that if she wants to succeed, she has to find a way to make it in a world that is not always kind to women or people of color.

"I come from a line of strong women and a father who was a strong advocate for education," said Rishma. “They taught me that there's always a way to get things done. If you don’t succeed the first time, find another way.”

Rishma said as a female leader, she wants to lift other women up and see more of them represented in her industry. Her advice to others following in her footsteps? "Be prepared to put in the work and build a solid reputation," said Rishma. "If you want to move into management and have the experience, go for it. Don’t feel you must meet 100 percent of the qualifications. Many skills are learned on the job. Don’t undervalue yourself. Always aim high."

THE ART OF STILLNESS

HOW TO START (AND LOVE) MEDITATION

I've been meditating since I was 19 years old.  I started with 20 minutes, then increased to 30, and eventually settled at 50 because my mind and body naturally asked for more time in silence. Sometimes finding peace and quiet can feel impossible—enter meditation. Meditation isn’t about stopping your thoughts; it’s about creating space for them without judgment. By practicing mindfulness, you learn to observe your thoughts and emotions from a place of calm, reducing stress, and improving mental clarity. Anyone can learn. All you need is a few minutes a day and an open mind.

Whether you're seeking more focus, relaxation, or emotional balance, meditation can help. Follow these simple steps to begin your journey toward greater peace and self-awareness. If you’re new to meditation, start with 3 to 5 minutes daily and gradually increase the time. Set a timer so you don’t have to worry about checking the clock. As you become more comfortable, you’ll naturally want to sit for longer.

Bring your attention to your breath. Start by taking slow, deep breaths. Inhale through your nose for four counts, hold for four counts, and exhale through your mouth for four counts. If your mind wanders, gently return to your breath without judgment. Then start again–four, four, four.

Don’t resist your thoughts or try to silence them. Instead, notice them without attachment. If you get pulled into a thought, simply notice it and gently shift your attention back to your breath. The goal isn’t to empty your mind—it’s to create awareness and calm. Over time, you’ll find that thoughts lose their grip on you, and you’ll respond to challenges with greater ease.

When you're ready (or when the timer goes off), open your eyes and take a deep breath. Reflect on how you feel and thank yourself for taking this time. Even a few minutes a day makes a difference.

and LUXE LOVE

A wedding wonderland and girly getaway at Nobu Hotel Los Cabos

Picture this: Champagne bubbles prepare to dance, the early evening’s soft glow sunbathes honey-toned wood chairs that line the beach, and the ocean whispers secrets in the distance, while my dear friend— radiant as a goddess—says "I do" in a scene so chic it could've been ripped from a Hollywood script. My husband is beside me, my besties are giggling nearby, and I'm plotting how to bottle this magic for eternity.

The picturesque wedding at Nobu Los Cabos wasn't just a day of love—it was a masterclass in elegance, a swoon-worthy escape, and a revelation that this slice of paradise, just a hop from Las Vegas, is the ultimate spot for both tying the knot and a fabulous girls' getaway.

My brilliant friend deserves a crown for picking this gem. Her day was a symphony of tasteful opulence and charm—a blizzard of white flowers spilling across every surface, a parade of loving family members led by an adorable flower girl adding the perfect touch of sweetness. The bride floated down the aisle in a dress so elegant it whispered couture secrets, her hair and makeup sculpted to model-perfection, as if the ocean breeze itself had styled her. And the groom? Well, he wasn't so bad himself—his perfectly coiffed hair, stylish ensemble, and confident smile added an impressive sophistication. The reception delivered with a tent of fairy lights glimmering like stars, a champagne tower that bubbled over with bravura, a dance floor saxophonist that glowed in the dark, and a fireworks finale that painted the sky, leaving us all gasping and toasting their genius. They didn't just plan a wedding; they curated an experience—classy, dreamy, and drenched in that effortless Cabo cool.

I'm still buzzing from it all—a testament to why this spot is pure brilliance for lovebirds and lady squads alike. Nobu Los Cabos sits like a sleek jewel against the rugged Baja coastline, a quick jaunt from Las Vegas, yet worlds away in vibe. The architecture—sharp angles softened by natural wood and stone—practically begs for wedding photos that'll outshine any filter. My camera roll is still swooning over the infinity pools that melt into the ocean horizon, perfect for those "just married" or "just us girls" Instagram moments. The luxury here isn't loud—it's a quiet, confident swagger. Private cabanas cradle you in plush serenity, spicy margaritas flow at the swim-up lounge, and the spa is an oasis of polished pampering.

The lifestyle is the clincher. We indulged in open-air dining on the two-level oceanside patio at the Nobu Los Cabos Restaurant. The Omakase dinner was a love letter to flavor—Black Cod Miso melting on the tongue, Rock Shrimp Tempura with a crisp flirt of spice, and Yellowtail Tartare with a caviar kiss, all woven with Baja's culinary soul. It's

delicate, decadent, and downright divine—exactly what you crave while celebrating. Between the pools, the ocean views, and the food that's practically art, this place turns every moment into a memory worth framing.

My friend's wedding was a demonstration of the enchantment of Nobu Los Cabos. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this wasn't just a venue—it was a canvas for dreams. What struck me most was how seamlessly the resort catered to both the grandness of the wedding and the intimate moments that made it special—whether it was the private time the bridal party shared in their luxurious suite, or the late-night laughter with friends around the fire pit.

As the night wound down and the newlyweds danced one final song, I couldn't help but reflect on the perfection of it all. My friend's wedding showed me the beauty of saying "I do" here, and it sparked a craving to return with my crew—because who wouldn't want to soak in this chic, playful perfection? Cabo's calling, and Nobu's the answer.

Prenatal and postnatal Pilates: a journey of strength and recovery

EMPOWERING MOMS THROUGH MOVEMENT

Pilates can be a powerful tool for expectant and new mothers navigating the physical and emotional challenges of pregnancy and postpartum life.

Teya Lorts, an experienced Pilates instructor and owner of Stance Pilates (stancepilates.com) in southwest Las Vegas, shares her expertise on how this gentle, yet effective, exercise form supports women through their motherhood journey.

"Prenatal and postnatal Pilates is one of the most effective ways to prepare for childbirth and recover afterward," Teya explains. "It focuses on the deep core, breath control, and overall body alignment— all of which play a significant role in pregnancy, labor, and postpartum healing." During pregnancy, Pilates helps women maintain strength and flexibility, while also preparing their bodies for labor.

Teya emphasizes pelvic stability, controlled breathing, and gentle mobility exercises to support the changing body and reduce discomfort. "Strengthening the pelvic floor and deep core muscles is essential for labor and delivery, and Pilates provides the tools to do so safely," she adds.

For postpartum recovery, Teya tailors her approach to help women rebuild their core and regain functional strength. "Many postpartum women experience diastasis recti, pelvic floor weakness, or general instability," she notes. "We focus on restoring deep core engagement and reconnecting with breathwork before progressing into more dynamic movement." Teya is particularly mindful of mothers with specific postpartum concerns, offering gentle core activation exercises for those with diastasis recti and progressing with caution for those recovering from C-sections.

A unique aspect of Teya’s approach is allowing mothers to bring their babies to Pilates sessions. "This provides them with an opportunity to prioritize their own well-being without the stress of finding childcare," she says. While babywearing during exercises isn't always practical, Teya provides alternatives,

such as using a pack and play or bringing car seats or bassinets.

The mind-body connection is central to Teya’s sessions. "Pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery can be overwhelming," she acknowledges. "Pilates provides a moment of intentional movement, mindfulness, and breathwork that allows mothers to reconnect with their bodies." Teya encourages pregnant and postpartum mothers to get healthcare clearance before starting any exercise program, emphasizing that each recovery journey is unique.

Through her work at Stance Pilates, Teya continues to empower women, helping them through the physical challenges of motherhood with confidence and strength. As more mothers discover the benefits of prenatal and postnatal Pilates, they find not just a form of exercise, but a supportive community and a path to renewed vitality.

LAS VEGAS:

A WOMAN AT HEART

Lisa Chastain

Growing up in Las Vegas, I didn’t see it the way tourists did. While most people saw flashing lights and high-stakes glamour, I saw something different. I saw the people—the ones behind the curtain—who made the magic happen. And more often than not, those people were women.

I come from a blue-collar family. My father moved to Las Vegas in 1954 to work with my great-uncle Thom, a stagehand at the Stardust. But it was my great-aunt Kathleen who shaped my understanding of this city. As a seamstress at the Stardust, she wasn’t just mending costumes—she was holding the illusion together. Without her, the show didn’t go on.

That’s the story of Las Vegas. Women have always been its foundation, working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure everything runs flawlessly. They don’t always get the credit, but without them, Vegas wouldn’t be Vegas.

WOMEN BUILT LAS VEGAS

Before the neon lights and the casinos, Las Vegas was shaped by a woman— Helen J. Stewart. A landowner and businesswoman, she played a pivotal role in selling the land that would become the heart of the city. Women like her ensured that Vegas wasn’t just a pit stop in the desert but a place where families could thrive.

For those of us raised here, we know this firsthand. Vegas isn’t just built on big

bets and high rollers—it’s built by women like my great-aunt Kathleen. The ones who ran the schools, worked in the hotels, and held everything together while others took the spotlight.

IF VEGAS HAD A GENDER, SHE’D BE A WOMAN

Think about it. Las Vegas reinvents herself time and time again. She’s bold, glamorous, resilient, and strong. She holds it all together, even when no one is looking. Beneath the sequins, she’s got grit.

I grew up dancing at Harry Reid’s fundraisers in the 1980s, watching Lance Burton perform at my recitals before he was a star, and visiting Siegfried and Roy’s house before they became Vegas legends. My family worked behind the scenes, ensuring the spectacle unfolded night after night.

Vegas is a city of reinvention, of survival, of making the impossible happen. And just like the women who built her, she refuses to be defined by anything but her own terms.

THE WORK CONTINUES

While we celebrate the women who shaped this city, we must also acknowledge the challenges that remain.  And it will be women who lead the charge to heal and build a better future.

Women built this city. And they will continue to shape it. Because Vegas isn’t just a place—it’s a force. And at its heart, Vegas is, and always will be, a woman.
