Writing this month’s letter has been a journey. I must have rewritten it at least five times (apologies to my editor, Paige!).
With this month’s “Gents” theme, I was thinking a lot about how Father’s Day is approaching, and how it is hitting me quite differently this year. This will be the first one without my dad. I get emotional thinking about it; I’m sure many of you can relate. But the thought process is also gifting me the opportunity to reflect on my phenomenal father and what truly makes a great dad.
My dad was always there for us, no matter what. His support spanned across every aspect of my siblings’ and my life, making all the difference in the world. I hope you have had a similar experience.
Growing older and becoming a dad myself has made me think about what traits I want to continue to honor his legacy: kindness, support, and love are just a few. It also made me appreciate the memories of my own father. I remember the Little League games he never missed and those unforgettable family fishing trips. I rarely remember things about gifts or toys, it is most often about the moments we shared.
A father's gifts of time, encouraging words, and positive actions, shape us in ways we may not even realize at the time. My dad's impact on me was profound, and now I strive to do the same for my own kids. Looking back, my dad wasn't just a role model, he was my friend. And now, as an adult, I see the sacrifices he, and my mom, made to raise me.
It's important to let our fathers or father figures know how much they mean to us. I encourage you to share your endearing thoughts with your father, if you are able.
To all the dads out there, a big thank you! You are invaluable to your loved ones and the community around you. Here's to you, for all that you do.
Cheers,
June 2024

ROTATES 36 TAPS, SEASONAL MENUS, AND ENTERTAINMENT
Several things will catch your eye when you first enter Taps & Barrels Beerhouse: All of the glistening glassware in different shapes and sizes to choose from, the 36 rotating craft beers from around the world on selfserve taps, seating that will remind you of your family’s living room as well as communal tables to make new friends at, welcoming staff waiting at the counter to help you navigate your first visit, floor-to-ceiling windows showing off an incredible view of water fountains and mountains. Sound tasty? Let’s delve in a bit further.

Owner Ming Liu is excited to share his almost-one-year-old tap room and eatery with locals and anyone who wants to get offStrip for entertainment. The space is clean and fresh – no cigarette odors or gaming here – and a very open feeling with lots of light. The taps are cleaned twice daily, the tap list updates every minute via their big screen, or if you prefer, via the Untappd beer app. You can sample as little – without getting full - or as much as you’d like. And know this: they are one of the first local establishments to offer a self-pour format.
The well-trained staff can help guests with both the drinks and food menus, so that whatever you are looking for – where the beer is from, the back story and flavor profile – you will find. The elevated bar food, like their Beerhouse Hot Dogs menu, includes Hawaiian dog, bahn mi dog, elote dog, and a bacon-wrapped San Francisco street dog. They also offer items such as tuna pizza, ahi poke, street corn dip, fish and chips, oysters, and both a charcuterie and butter board.
Want to try other drinks with your beers? Taps & Barrels also features cider, hard seltzer, hard kombucha, mead, sake, and both red and white wines - some via the taps and some via the menu.
Entertainment is covered by Tuesday Trivia with prizes like cool glassware and show tickets, Friday Live Music and other events that have included beer tasting, sushi making and even a cactus class.
So, what are you waiting for? Get over there, go to the counter, check in, and get your beer card started!
In the ever-evolving landscape of home design and personal space, the concept of the man cave stands as a testament to the innate need for a retreat, a sanctuary where men can unwind, indulge in their hobbies, and have a dedicated space to escape the pressures of work and family life.
The term "man cave" may evoke images of dimly lit basements adorned with sports memorabilia and oversized recliners, but in reality, it encompasses a diverse array of spaces tailored to suit individual tastes and preferences.
The early thoughts of the man cave concept conjure up the visual of unfinished basements or spare

rooms, serving as makeshift retreats filled with basic amenities and functional furniture. However, as the concept gained popularity, it evolved into a fully realized design trend, with homeowners investing significant time and resources into creating personalized spaces that reflect their interests and personalities.
Key elements of a well-appointed man cave often include comfortable seating, state-of-the-art entertainment systems, custom storage solutions for collections
Today, man caves range from lavish home theaters and game rooms to sophisticated libraries and movies under the stars.
Imagine dreaming up the most marvelous idea for your man cave … is it a lavish home theater with surround sound and a giant screen, or a sophisticated lounge with comfortable chairs, couches, and a full bar? Or would you prefer to sit on the 50-yard line in reclining seats in your own personally designed sports cave watching your team win the big game? Or is it a high-end tavern setting with a pool table and other games where you can show your friends just who the grand champion of air hockey really is?

Audio Video Integration is leading the charge in man cave trends, offering golf simulators, LED lighting, and automation systems that make relaxing as easy as reclining on 1 … 2 … 3 …
Kim Wicklund, President of Premiere Audio Video Integration, sheds some light on the state-of-the-art entertainment, integration, and lighting opportunities
that can turn your space from ho hum to oh yea, including the possibility of swinging your golf clubs right in the privacy of your own home.
Premiere Audio Video Integration is introducing a new golf and sports simulator that completes your space. Now, the professionals aren’t the only ones who can compete. Invite your friends over and play them in baseball, soccer, or hockey. “You can both watch the game and tune up your own game in the comfort of your own man cave,” said Kim.
Premiere Audio Video Integration can help you from step one with innovative design concepts for new construction homes and designs and retro-fit wiring for your existing home. If you are wondering if your space is possible, rest assured it is. When it comes to the impossible project, Kim says, “We are still looking to find it.”
Today, man caves come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from lavish home theaters and game rooms to sophisticated libraries and movies under the stars. Premiere Audio Video Integration can design and build your own custom theater, security and surveillance systems, and outdoor entertaining options.

While the primary function of a man cave is to provide a space for relaxation and recreation, it also serves a deeper purpose as a refuge from the demands of everyday life. In a world where men are often expected to fulfill multiple roles and responsibilities, the modern man cave stands as a testament to the enduring need for personal space. That personal space offers a sense of autonomy and self-expression, allowing individuals to reconnect with their interests and identities outside of societal expectations. It remains a cherished institution, providing a haven of relaxation, recreation, and rejuvenation.

ARTICLE BY TAYLOR SHEA WEST | PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF GEAR & GRINDS VEGAS“I've loved cars since I was a little kid, I always had Hot Wheels close by,” said Tyler Gallo, Owner of Gear & Grinds Vegas and The Paddock Auto Club. “I hosted my first community car show in 2006 for my high school to raise awareness for our school district's tax levy,” said Gallo. “Fast forward to 2016, I had recently relocated to Las Vegas, and wanted to find the cool car events in town.”
In came Gears and Grinds, a semi-monthly event held near local coffee shop, Baguette Café, that gathers moto enthusiasts with the simple goal of welcoming all gears with wheels to enjoy good company, appreciate the chrome, horsepower, and symphony of vehicles, and some flavorful coffee.
“Our events welcome auto enthusiasts, of course, but also we encourage friends and
families to feel welcome into the automotive culture that connects us all,” said Gallo.
Gallo has spent the better part of the past eight years navigating the Las Vegas car community and is happy to see the positive growth.

“Vegas has been the mecca for the automotive industry for decades thanks to SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association), and we now have the Las Vegas Concours, Formula 1 Las Vegas Gran Prix, and more, elevating the local car community,” said Gallo.
Gallo also credits Gear & Grinds to some degree.
“Honestly, Gears & Grinds has specifically contributed to creating inclusivity for enthusiasts and, more importantly, their passengers,” said Gallo. “There's never a dull moment at any event and all of us truly share in the experience and have each other's backs and bolts.”
From helping shine up a buddy's car, to borrowing tools, and simply just sharing their stories with new friends.
“The reason I am dedicated to this culture is to create and strengthen the camaraderie amongst us all every day, not just at our events,” said Gallo.
As a proactive member of the community, there are some efforts that Gallo thinks can be made to further promote inclusivity and diversity within the hobby.
“Having respect - welcoming the diversity that is this culture to have access and share our appreciation. We hold a standard for our company, events, and who we affiliate with to ensure we respect the experience for everyone,” said Gallo.
Gallo believes that events like car shows help preserve automotive history and culture, due to the events providing spaces for individuals to truly look and learn.
“People can see cars they've maybe only ever seen on social media or have the opportunity to talk to someone they would only meet in that moment or at least have a reason to talk to each other,” said Gallo. “It's where families can take kids to inspire the next generation to be a part of a culture that stretches around the globe.”
Gallo urges locals to come to Gears & Grinds every first and third Sunday of the month.
“Look up your local automotive events, attend them, show support, say hello to the owners of the cars, and just start talking,” said Gallo.
