When was the last time you moved? How did you nest? What was most important in creating your new space? For me, this issue hits “home.” I’m in a new space and somewhat overwhelmed as I manage furniture, fixtures, colors, and more.
Your home is where you start and end each day. It’s a base and launchpad at the same time. And while the particulars look different for each of us, the meaning and value it holds for all of us is undeniable.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "A house is made with walls and beams; a home is built with love and dreams." There is a reason that we call this the “Home” issue and not necessarily our “House” issue. We are always looking to create content intended to align with our readers, which is why for this issue we want to highlight everything from aesthetics and design to recipes to create in your own home.
We feel like the lucky ones as we got to learn more about the businesses and individuals that comprise this city and hope the small lens into their worlds brings people in this community together.
As you flip through the pages of this issue, we hope you’ll feel encouraged and connected to the people around you - in your city, neighborhood, and most of all - your home.
Every month, we hear from readers who keep this magazine for longer than just the month labeled on the cover. They say they hold onto it for months as coffee table art or an accessory in their home. We feel proud to create a resource that is valued in our community and strive every month to deliver the value you expect.
Thank you for letting us be a part of your home.
Yours truly,

HOMEBUILDER MARKS 45 YEARS IN THE VALLEY PIONEERING QUALITY, VALUE, AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
ARTICLE BY TAYLOR SHEA WEST PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF SIGNATURE HOMESIn 1978, Richard and Wendy Plaster formed Plaster Development Company, Inc., as a Las Vegas family business with a commitment to building quality new construction homes, value, and customer satisfaction. With every home they built, they left their mark or ‘signature’ on each piece they created.
Then they adopted the trade name of Signature Homes.
As of now, Signature Homes is one of the oldest, privately held homebuilders in the Las Vegas Valley. Over 45 years, Signature Homes has built more than 145 communities and 13,000 homes.
The Signature team has received countless national, regional, and local awards including two CAI Developer of the Year Awards, two DESI awards for best sustainable design and best courtyard design, and many more. They have built strong relationships with local trades and other businesses that have allowed them to put more value and quality craftsmanship into every home they build.
Andrew Torgersen is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Signature Homes. He has lived in the Las Vegas Valley for 30 years and has been in the homebuilding industry for the past seven years.
“As a kid, my parents would take me to see model homes on the weekends and I was always fascinated with floorplans and design,” said Torgersen. “Today, that passion still holds true, and I am proud not only to be a member of the Signature Homes family but also a happy owner of a Signature home!”
At Signature Homes, there are whole teams dedicated to working in specific areas such as construction, marketing, accounting, and insurance. Whatever one may need, they can find it at Signature Homes.
“We want our customers to walk away from our business feeling right at home,” said Torgerson. “We are a local builder that just wants to build dream homes for our customers. We work with them every step of the way to ensure a seamless process.”
Currently, Signature Homes is building a new single-story community, Grand Fair Pointe, in the Southwest region (Lindell and Serene) near Jones and Blue Diamond.
“We have two brand new floorplans ranging from 2,592 to 3,028 square feet and offer 3 to 5 bedrooms, 2.5 to 3.5 bathrooms, 2 to 4 car garages, and solar,” said Torgersen. “This will be our second community to include solar on all homes. On top of our exhaustive list of standard features, we are excited to offer several structural options to help homebuyers customize their home. These options include a multi-gen suite, deluxe spa bath, secluded courtyard, luxury kitchen, and much more that can be found on our website.”
Torgersen looks to turn customers into proud homeowners.
AFTER CELEBRATING ITS 45TH ANNIVERSARY LAST YEAR, SIGNATURE HOMES PROUDLY HOLDS THE TITLE OF LAS VEGAS’S OLDEST CONTINUOUSLY OPERATED PRIVATE BUILDER. PRESIDENT RICK BARRON SHARES THE COMPANY’S UNIQUE JOURNEY, HIGHLIGHTING THEIR FLEXIBILITY AND ADAPTABILITY. BARRON POINTS OUT THAT SIGNATURE HAS THRIVED BY PAYING ATTENTION TO INDUSTRY CYCLES, AVOIDING OVERGROWTH, AND REMAINING ADAPTABLE. SIGNATURE HOMES PLANS TO START BUILDING MORE THAN 100 HOMES THIS YEAR, AIMING TO GROW THAT NUMBER IN 2025. THE COMPANY IS ALSO EXPANDING INTO THE BUILD-FOR-RENT HOUSING MARKET, WITH A “SOLAR INCLUDED” TOWNHOME PROJECT IN THE NORTHWEST VALLEY, ADDRESSING AFFORDABILITY CONCERNS AND SHOWCASING THEIR COMMITMENT TO INNOVATION AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION.
For more than 30 years, Thomas Dermatology, guided by the vision of its founder Dr. Douglas Thomas, has provided comprehensive medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology care to the residents of the greater Las Vegas Valley. As always, we look forward to welcoming you and your family to our clinics! AWARD-WINNING | BOARD-CERTIFIED | FELLOWSHIP-TRAINED
When the calendar flips over to March, people who live in Southern Nevada know that change is coming. We are talking about extreme heat that is just around the corner. The kind of weather that can be dangerous to your body and can take a toll on your home as well. So, when it comes to protecting your house from the sun’s damaging rays, experts say thinking ahead and taking some proactive steps are key.
“Here in Las Vegas, a good and reliable air conditioning system is not a luxury, it’s a necessity...it’s so important to maintain your air conditioner before extreme heat arrives.” - Ryan Field
For Ryan Field, Vice President of Marketing for Sierra Air Conditioning & Plumbing, taking care of your HVAC system should start before the weather gets hot.
"Here in Las Vegas, a good and reliable air conditioning system is not a luxury, it’s a necessity,” said Field. “It can be hard for us to drive that point home sometimes. When it’s not yet 110 degrees outside and the weather is beautiful, people don’t feel much urgency. But it’s so important to maintain your air conditioner before extreme heat arrives, which is something we see every year."
To help customers keep up with the maintenance of home comfort systems year-round, Sierra LLC Air Conditioning & Plumbing recently launched a new membership plan. The Savings and Maintenance Membership (S.A.M. Membership) is designed to ensure your equipment remains at optimal performance and your warranty stays intact. Members receive more than $1,373 in services each year for a monthly fee of $16. This will provide each member with four complimentary visits from their HVAC technicians and plumbers. For starters, this includes a cooling tune-up in the spring, to prepare for summer as well as a heating tune-up in the fall, to prepare for winter. Also included is a visit from the plumbing team for a 65-point preventative maintenance inspection. S.A.M. Members also receive an emergency visit, if needed.
“This kind of membership plan is not an industry standard, at least not yet,” said Field. “But we are stepping it up for our customers. People don’t realize how expensive these AC units can be these days, but prices have been going up steadily over the last few years. So, if you don't take care of it and it breaks, you are in for a big bill to replace your air conditioner.”
Field says on average, air conditioners last about 10 years in the Las Vegas Valley because of our extreme weather. But with regular inspections and repairs, the cost to keep and maintain one of the most expensive pieces of machinery in your home could come way down.
“This kind of membership plan is not an industry standard, at least not yet...but we are stepping it up for our customers.”
“It really is like having a car. We are talking 15 to 30 thousand dollars for an AC system. You must take care of it to make sure it keeps running for you, especially when you need it most."
Other tips that Field has for keeping your AC in great shape include checking your filters regularly, especially if you have a lot of people or pets in the house. Also, when it’s time to replace your system, you want to find a reputable company that will do the work correctly and won’t cut corners.
“There are a lot of things that customers don’t see during installation and if the system is not installed level from the beginning, you will likely see problems and the cost to fix it will be more expensive,” said Field.
Sierra Air Conditioning & Plumbing is committed to keeping Las Vegas homes safe and at peak performance with the highest level of service and warranties in the industry.
