A Note From the Editor

Dear Sonoran Foothills Neighbors,

Having lived and been part of this community for more than 25 years, I’ve witnessed many changes. But through it all, one thing remains constant — the spirit of giving that makes this place so special.

Giving takes many forms here. Sometimes it’s the generous support of local nonprofits like Anthem Cares Through Service (ACTS) and Veterans Airlift Command, both featured in this issue, whose dedication makes a real difference. Other times, it’s something as simple — yet deeply meaningful — as sharing a family recipe, like the festive dish from Brianna Arnold of The Charcuterie Club that brings people together around the table. And, of course, there’s the gift of beauty and confidence, which you’ll discover in our feature on Christin Wuestenhoefer, owner of A Wild Hair Salon and Day Spa.

This season, as I reflect on all I’m grateful for, I’m reminded that the greatest gifts aren’t things — they’re moments, connections, and love. I’m thankful for my family, my two rescue dogs who give unconditional love, my health, this incredible community I’m proud to call home, and the opportunity to share my creativity and art direction through this magazine, which I hold close to my heart.

May this season remind us all that giving — in any form — is truly at the heart of community.

With gratitude,

December 2025

A WILD HAIR Salon & Day Spa

BUILDING A LEGACY OF GIVING AND CONNECTION

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY ASHLEY HATHAWAY

When Christin Wuestenhoefer opened A Wild Hair Salon & Day Spa in 2007, she didn’t just envision a business — she envisioned a sanctuary. Inspired by her sister, a single mom in need of a fresh start, Christin promised that if her sister went to aesthetician school, she would open a salon for her to share her talent. Her sister accepted the challenge, and A Wild Hair was born: a family-run, teaching salon in the heart of Anthem, Arizona, where every client feels welcomed, valued, and truly at home.

From the very first day, Christin’s mission has been clear: to make everyone who walks through the door feel beautiful, comfortable, and heard. “I want everyone to feel like they belong here,” she says. Her philosophy stems from her own early experiences in other salons, where she often felt embarrassed and unwelcome. “No one wanted to reschedule me. I left feeling small,” she recalls. “I knew I wanted something different. I wanted to create a place where everyone felt accepted.”

A Wild Hair is also a training salon, a place where young stylists fresh out of beauty school are mentored, encouraged, and empowered to grow. Christin herself started in the beauty industry before attending beauty college — she cut hair for her old boss and always knew she wanted to be a business owner. Over the years, she has trained every stylist who has passed through her doors, teaching not just technique, but values: respect, teamwork, and a commitment to clients. “I want my team to feel supported and confident,” she says. “We like to mentor them and empower them, and that makes all the difference.”

The salon’s success isn’t just about technique — it’s about emotional connection. Christin has witnessed her

clients through some of life’s most challenging moments. She recalls one client whose hair problems led to a doctor’s visit and a lupus diagnosis. Another, undergoing chemotherapy, found hope when Christin introduced her to a product for thinning hair. “I looked at her six weeks later and said, ‘You have hair.’ She said, ‘I know,’” Christin remembers, tears in her eyes. “Those moments — seeing someone regain confidence or feel beautiful again — are why I do this.”

A Wild Hair has also earned national recognition for its dedication and partnership with the professional beauty community. Partnering with Seven, a leading product company, Christin and her team receive free, ongoing education, learning new techniques and trends to bring back to their clients in Anthem. Their hard work and dedication have been recognized with Most Loyal Partner and Most Valuable Partner awards at a nationwide ceremony.

runs smoothly, even when disagreements arise. “Teamwork is everything,” she adds. “When I’m gone, they handle business — and I never worry.”

This dedication to family and team extends to the broader community. Christin, a 24-year Anthem resident, credits the community with the salon’s longevity and success. “We wouldn’t be in business if it weren’t for the community,” she says. “Every time I leave my salon, I am so proud to employ my family and provide a space where clients and staff alike feel seen and cared for.”

“Those moments — seeing someone regain confidence or feel beautiful again — are why I do this.”

“When we won the first year, I couldn’t believe it,” Christin says. “We weren’t going to go, but the CEO begged us to show because we were nominated. The second year, we didn’t think we would win again — and we did. It was truly amazing.”

— Christin Wuestenhoefer

A Wild Hair’s ethos is simple but powerful: care, connection, and creativity. Christin describes her approach as a combination of therapist, doctor, and artist. “People are sick, they cry, they hate their hair. People want new looks, and I see them through their different phases of life,” she explains. The salon offers more than skincare, makeup lessons, haircuts, styling and color — it provides a safe, supportive environment where clients can share, reflect, and feel heard.

Family is at the heart of A Wild Hair. Christin employs her sister, daughter, daughter-in-law, and niece. “We don’t always agree, but we always work it out,” she says. “To me, there is nothing more important than family.” Communication, respect, and shared purpose ensure that the salon

The salon also emphasizes unique, high-quality products. Christin partners with professional lines that are carefully tested and selected, often offering products and tools unavailable anywhere else in Anthem. “I believe in the products I carry,” she says. “We use organic options, tried-andtrue products, and the best tools — everything is thoughtful, down to the makeup.” This dedication to quality further reinforces the salon’s commitment to care and professionalism.

Creating a positive, supportive environment extends to the staff culture. A Wild Hair does not rely on chore lists or micromanagement. Team members are encouraged to step up, mentor new stylists, and work as a well-oiled machine. Continuing education, team-building, and modeling behavior for newer staff are key to the salon’s success. “I am proud of my staff,” Christin says. “They are what make this place run. When I go on vacation, I know everything is in good hands.”

The Salon has grown from a small space in a privately owned business park with just a few chairs into an Anthem landmark. Despite its expansion and modernization, the salon has retained its original ethos: everyone is welcome, everyone matters, and everyone leaves feeling valued. Whether it’s hair, skin, or makeup, Christin wants clients to feel at home and to know their voices are heard. Client feedback drives growth and innovation, ensuring the salon evolves while remaining deeply connected to its community.

Christin’s personal journey reflects the salon’s values. Married for 32 years with three children, she is deeply rooted in Arizona. Her family, her team, and her clients are intertwined, forming a network of care, support, and creativity. “I just hope I can spread a little bit of joy,” she says. “I watch my clients get older as I get older. Some have no one else to talk to, and sometimes I just sit with them, grab a chair, and listen. I give them my ear.”

Through its commitment to education, family, community, and personal connection, A Wild Hair Salon & Day Spa embodies the theme of this issue: Giving. It is more than a salon — it is a place where joy, care, and beauty intersect, where clients and staff alike feel empowered, supported, and truly seen. In Christin’s hands, a haircut is not just a style — it is a gift.

THE

WREATH CAPRESE

A simple, shareable appetizer that brings everyone to the table.

Growing up in an Italian family, food and the holidays have always gone hand in hand. The table was where stories were told, laughter lingered, and every bite carried a sense of togetherness. This Caprese wreath captures that feeling in a simple appetizer that celebrates the season.

It’s fresh, colorful, and meant to be shared—a reminder that the heart of every gathering is not just the food, but the love that surrounds it!

Serves: 8–10

INGREDIENTS:

• 1 lb fresh sliced mozzarella

• 4 large beefsteak tomatoes

• 1 cup fresh basil leaves

• Extra virgin olive oil

• Balsamic glaze

• Flaky sea salt

• Cracked black pepper

• Optional: pomegranate seeds or rosemary sprigs for garnish

DIRECTIONS:

Assembly Time: 10–15 minutes

1. Slice tomatoes, sprinkle with salt, and let rest on a paper towel for 5–10 minutes to draw out moisture.

2. On a large round platter, alternate mozzarella and tomato slices in a wreath shape.

3. Tuck basil leaves between slices for fullness and color.

4. Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic glaze.

WINDOWS OF HOPE

Window World’s Mission Beyond the Home Takes Flight

At Window World, giving back is part of the company’s DNA. Beyond providing windows and doors, the company actively supports Veterans Airlift Command (VAC) and is a major corporate sponsor for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“This is just another way Window World gives back to the community.”

— Lee Cook, longtime Window World employee

“These partnerships are about caring,” says Lee Cook, a longtime Window World team member. “Any company that owns a private jet can offer these services free of charge. This is just another way Window World gives back to the community.”

Since the partnership began, Window World has completed over 180 VAC missions—flights that transport veterans to medical appointments or treatment facilities. “I have been employed here for over 21 years, and I have yet to see another window company care and give back as much as Window World,” Lee says.

One particularly memorable moment came at Dulles Airport in Chantilly, Virginia, where Lee witnessed a soldier and his wife off for treatment. “I have never been more proud to work for a company that treats veterans with such dignity, respect, and fairness,” he reflects.

With 268 stores nationwide, Window World’s flights take veterans across the country, reinforcing the team’s passion for VAC’s mission. The company’s private pilot plays a key role, ensuring that both corporate and veteran flights are safely and efficiently completed. “This is a donation we take pride in delivering whenever we have the ability,” Lee adds.

Looking ahead, Window World hopes to continue making a positive impact for veterans and the broader community. Supporters can help by donating directly at VeteransAirlift.org/donate/. With continued flights, sponsorships, and community involvement, Window World proves that its commitment extends far beyond windows and doors—showing that corporate giving can truly change lives.

The Anthem Mobility Closet

When Life Happens, ACTS Is Ready to Help

Life can change in an instant. A surgery, an injury, or a sudden illness can make everyday tasks difficult—or even impossible—without the right support. That’s why ACTS (Anthem Cares Through Service), created the Anthem Mobility Loan Closet, offering free short-term loans of medical and mobility equipment to Anthem residents in need.

From wheelchairs and walkers to shower chairs, canes, crutches, and knee scooters, the Mobility Closet ensures residents have what they need to recover safely and maintain independence at home. “Buying or renting equipment can be costly and time-consuming,” says Linda Pizzo, ACTS Executive Chair. “We wanted to make it simple and accessible—helping neighbors when they need it most.”

Housed locally and maintained entirely by volunteers, the closet is stocked, cleaned, and organized so that items are always ready for immediate use. Volunteers also deliver equipment when needed, ensuring residents can get the help they require without leaving home. The program is designed for short-term

needs, whether someone is recovering from surgery, caring for an injured family member, or temporarily regaining mobility after an accident.

The Mobility Closet is part of ACTS’ broader mission. Founded over a decade ago, ACTS began when a small group of neighbors came together to help a family in crisis. Today, the organization provides practical and financial support through programs like Anthem Gives, which has distributed over $700,000 in assistance, and Anthem Cares, offering rides, errands, friendly visits, minor home repairs, and technical help to seniors and homebound neighbors.

For residents like J.C., who relies on ACTS volunteers for dialysis transportation, the impact is deeply personal: “They’ve never missed a ride—always kind and dependable. Their help gives my wife real peace of mind.”

With the Mobility Closet, ACTS continues to demonstrate how a caring community can make a tangible difference. To borrow equipment, volunteer, or donate, visit AnthemActs.org
