An update since our move to Smyrna, my wife Morgan and I have been overwhelmed by the kindness and support shown to us by both our patients and newfound friends alike. It truly warms our hearts to be embraced by such a welcoming community.

On a personal note, Morgan is nearing the completion of her Master’s in Divinity at Emory University and has set her sights on pursuing a Ph.D. in the same field. Her dedication and passion for her studies are truly inspiring, and I couldn’t be prouder of her achievements.

We also hope to start a family soon, and we’re excited about the journey ahead.

Professionally, we remain committed to upholding the highest standards of transparency and providing you with the excellent dental care you deserve.

Hello, lovely readers!

With the arrival of May, we get to celebrate one of the most important and inspiring groups of people in our lives - the remarkable women who have shaped us.  The ones who make every day brighter and more beautiful with their unwavering love, strength, and compassion. Our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, and dear friends –these remarkable ladies are the backbone of our com munity, and we're so fortunate to have them by our sides.

With Mother's Day arriving this month, it's the perfect opportunity to shower our moms with gratitude and appreciation. But let's not forget the other maternal figures who have left an indelible mark on our hearts – the teachers who guided us, the neighbors who looked out for us, and the friends who became our chosen family. Like the warm rays of the sun, their kindness and support have nurtured our growth and success.

Of course, mothers are just one shining example of the remarkable women all around us. I am constantly in awe of the local female entrepreneurs, community leaders, teachers, artists, and everyday heroes who pour their energy into making Smyrna and Vinings vibrant places to call home. Their creativity, determination, and care for others embody the very best of our cities.  And whether their impact is seen or unseen, their dedication and attention to detail inspire us all to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.

This month, I encourage all of you to take a moment and let the supportive, hardworking women in your world know just how cherished they are. Send that heartfelt text, make that video call, or wrap your arms around the women who make your world go around. Shannon Bartlett: Leading Family Tradition

Shannon Bartlett, President and CEO of Bartlett

Heating and Cooling, has been immersed in the family business practically since birth. Growing up within the company’s walls, she started working there during her sixth-grade summer breaks, a routine she maintained throughout high school and college, and she continues to be an integral part of the team today. Despite the HVAC industry’s predominantly male-dominated nature, Shannon’s presence brings a valuable female perspective to the company, contributing to its success.

Community involvement holds a significant place in Shannon’s heart and Bartlett’s philosophy. They actively support local initiatives such as the Smyrna Little League, contribute to youth sports events in Cobb County, and participate in safety education programs. Their commitment extends to supporting small, local charities and recognizing educators through annual contests benefiting Cobb County schools.

Balancing the demands of a family-owned business with personal interests requires finesse, but Shannon manages it with ease.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, exploring hiking trails, and delving into a good book. With her daughters grown, Shannon looks forward to embracing more travel adventures in the future. Shannon Bartlett’s journey is a testament to dedication, adaptability, and a strong sense of community responsibility within both her professional life and personal life.

Margot Wright: Driving Success

Margot Wright’s journey into the automotive industry was an unexpected one, thrust upon her by the tragic loss of her late husband, Charles Wright, in 2013. Despite having no prior experience, Wright inherited T3 Automotive, the business Charles had founded in 1995 based on principles of honesty and affordability. With two locations to oversee, Wright faced an enormous and demanding task, made even more daunting by her lack of knowledge about car repair or the automotive industry itself.

Prior to this pivotal moment, Wright had been a paralegal at a commercial real estate company while raising her two children. Navigating the male-dominated automotive field required immense determination and trust in her employees. Through trial and error over the years, T3 Atlanta evolved, uniting into the current award-winning team of talented and hardworking technicians whom Wright deeply respects.

Despite her demanding career, Wright finds solace in her passions for drawing, painting, traveling, and spending time outdoors. Above all, she cherishes her time with her children, Logan and Carolyn, and her Great Dane, Blu.

Deeply rooted in the Smyrna Vinings community, Wright values her connections with local businesses and customers. “Many of our customers live in the Smyrna Vinings area and are some of the most delightful people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting,” she says, exemplifying her commitment to customer service and community engagement.

Vanessa Watkins’ path to becoming Principal of Campbell High School was unconventional. Beginning her career as a CPA and auditor at a Big Six accounting firm, she discovered her true passion while serving as a youth director alongside her husband, who was a pastor. Recognizing her love for working with young people, Vanessa pursued a Master’s in Teaching followed by a Doctorate in Education.

For 11 years, Vanessa served as a principal in Cobb County before ultimately being appointed as Principal of Campbell High School. In this capacity, she leads with unwavering dedication, placing a strong emphasis on fostering relationships and creating a culture of inclusivity and excellence.

At the core of Vanessa’s vision for Campbell High School is the belief that every student deserves support and empowerment to reach their full potential, each and every day. This principle is encapsulated in the motto, “Every Student, Every Day,” emphasizing the commitment to ensuring that every student receives the necessary support to thrive academically and socially.

Two annual events hold particular significance for Vanessa and the Campbell High School community: the International Festival and the MLK Awards Ceremony. These cherished traditions serve as powerful reminders of the school’s rich diversity and collective achievements, uniting all 3,000 students, 250 staff members, and numerous community members in celebration and recognition.

Recognizing the vital role of school-community partnerships, Vanessa underscores the importance of collaboration in creating a supportive environment for all. By working together and offering mutual support, schools can positively influence their communities while fostering a culture that promotes lifelong learning and growth, appealing to individuals from diverse backgrounds and interests.

Outside of her role as principal, Vanessa finds joy in spending time with her family, including her high school sweetheart husband, adult children, grandson, and extended relatives. She also enjoys traveling, engaging in HIIT workouts, reading, and baking.

Ramona McCary:

Smyrna’s Community Champion

Ramona McCary, a cherished figure in Smyrna, Georgia, epitomizes the essence of community spirit and altruism. Having relocated from Greensboro, N.C., to Atlanta in 1973, she found herself drawn to Smyrna’s small-town charm in the early 90s, captivated by its blend of rural tranquility amidst urbanity. This allure, coupled with familial ties, anchored her roots firmly within the community.

Transitioning from a career in advertising and marketing communication to teaching as a Special Ed parapro and later pursuing paralegal studies, Ramona’s journey reflects her unwavering commitment to growth and service. Her involvement in various non-profit organizations, including the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation and Support Smyrna, stems from a desire to directly impact lives and foster a sense of community.

Ramona’s commitment to community service extends to her role as Auxiliary Chaplain for the American Legion Post 160, where she provides unwavering support to veterans and their families, epitomizing empathy and compassion. Her dedication to community welfare is palpable, as she tirelessly works to uplift those in need, striving to bring hope and comfort to every individual she encounters.

Despite her busy schedule, Ramona finds refreshment in outdoor activities like walking around Smyrna’s picturesque pond and helping to exercise and care for a few horses at a nearby ranch. Her love for her community is palpable, evident in the countless lives she has touched and the meaningful connections she fosters. Ramona McCary stands as a beacon of hope and compassion, enriching the Smyrna-Vinings area with her selfless dedication and unwavering spirit.

Twin sisters Dr. Marian Muldrow and Dr. Marilyn Thomas are not only influential figures in Smyrna Vinings but also shining examples of resilience, determination, and dedication to their respective fields. Marian, the Senior Director of Operations and Head of Content Development for New Perspectives SEO, and Marilyn, the Director of South Cobb Early Learning Center in Cobb County School District, shared insights from their childhood, career journeys, and advice for aspiring professionals.

Marian recounted growing up in challenging circumstances that fueled her determination. Witnessing her sister’s resilience and recognizing education as a pathway to success shaped her focus on building a better future through hard work and education. Marilyn’s love for learning and experiences with inspiring teachers laid the foundation for her career in early childhood education. Her passion for fostering the growth and development of young minds has been a driving force throughout her journey.

Both sisters faced significant challenges along their paths. Marian tackled financial constraints and societal expectations by working multiple jobs, seeking

scholarships, and embracing self-directed learning. Marilyn navigated the diverse needs of children and embraced educational technology while staying true to hands-on, experiential learning.

Marian emphasizes the importance of a supportive network and staying true to values, while Marilyn highlights the significance of passion, professional development, and adaptability.

As the founder of Emma’s Flower Truck, every day feels like a vibrant burst of color and joy.  My name is Amelia Hamilton, and Emma’s Flower Truck is not just a business; it’s a vehicle for community connection and floral delight.

It all started with a simple concept: to infuse our community with the beauty of locally grown flowers. The ‘66 Chevy pickup we use holds tons of family memories, having been in our possession since my dad purchased it for a mere $100 at the age of 15. From childhood Halloween rides to tentative first drives around the neighborhood, this truck is more than metal and wheels—it’s a cherished part of our family history.

Transforming it into Emma’s Flower Truck felt like breathing new life into an old friend. Our first pop-up appearance in September 2023 was met with excitement and enthusiasm, signaling the beginning of a

beautiful journey. Whether we’re parked outside local businesses or adding a touch of floral elegance to events, our mission remains the same: to spread smiles and foster a love for blooms.

Visitors to our truck are greeted with a cornucopia of fresh flowers and floral-themed gifts. Whether you prefer to craft your own bouquet or grab a pre-made arrangement on the go, there’s something for everyone.

For four decades, Keep Smyrna Beautiful (KSB) has championed environmental stewardship and beautification efforts in our community. Established in 1984, KSB has consistently pursued its mission to inspire residents to keep our city clean, green, and beautiful. As the organization marks its 40th anniversary, it reflects on its journey and invites everyone to celebrate this remarkable milestone.

Operating in partnership with the City of Smyrna’s Environmental Services department, KSB is effectively fulfilling its mission through various initiatives and programs. Proudly affiliated with Keep America Beautiful and Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, KSB showcases

excellence in environmental preservation.

One of its flagship programs, Adopt-AMile, embodies community involvement. Through quarterly cleanups, volunteers work tirelessly to reduce litter along Smyrna roadways, collectively removing over 7,300 pounds of litter in 2023 alone. Individuals, groups, and businesses are invited to adopt a mile and contribute to the cleanliness and beauty of the city.

KSB’s dedication extends to protecting local streams, essential for preserving ecosystems and providing drinking water to millions in the metro Atlanta area. Through Adopt-A-Stream, environmentally conscious volunteers monitor water quality in 6 Smyrna streams, safeguarding these vital natural resources.

Community Cleanups, initiated in 2020, target litter reduction in specific areas

of Smyrna, fostering a sense of pride and ownership among residents. The annual Jonquil Bulb sales and Smyrna Garden Tour beautify the surroundings and support ongoing efforts.

As the organization commemorates its 40th anniversary, it invites community participation in fundraising endeavors like the $40 for 40 campaign, Garden Tour, anniversary yard signs, or volunteering. Every contribution makes a meaningful impact.

Together, the community will continue to keep Smyrna clean, green, and beautiful for generations to come. Along with having great neighbors, one of the things I love most about where I live is that the Silver Comet Trail is nearby. I love the conversations I have with friends as we burn away some unneeded calories. A question that I get often, whether on the trail or in my office, is “How do you know God’s will for your life?” This is such a GREAT question! Whether the person who offers it realizes it or not, it comes from a belief in the goodness and omniscience of God. He is perfectly good, and He knows all things, so what is His plan for me?

We ask this question because its answer leads to a fulfilling and satisfying life. But how do we discover such a profoundly personal truth that feels as if we are searching for a needle in a haystack? Here’s an answer in two parts.

First, always begin with God’s revealed will. The Bible talks often about God’s law, statutes, and decrees. When we read them, it is God’s wisdom for us. God has given them to us for our own good and for His glory. Living life God’s way requires trust, and trust in God’s Word is the first step in trusting His plan.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

- Proverbs 3:5-6

Second, follow the Bible’s path in uncovering God’s concealed will. In Acts 1:15-36, when Jesus’ disciples needed to know what to do, they did their homework by studying God’s Word. They narrowed the scope of their decision so that it aligned with what they studied. They prayed intently for God’s will as they considered their acceptable options. They then trusted God’s Spirit to lead them to the correct decision.
