LIFESTYLE LETTER

Gathering Around the Table Some of my absolute favorite memories don’t take place anywhere fancy. They happen around a dining room table. There is something so effortlessly special about gathering over a great meal or a favorite drink. It’s the place where the day slows down, phones get set aside, and the conversation just flows. It’s the laughter shared over pizza, the local bartender or barista who knows your order before you even sit down, and the quiet comfort of a hot cup of coffee on a brisk fall morning. Food has a way of anchoring us. It’s never just about what’s on the plate or in the glass; it’s about the feeling of belonging that comes with it. The way a cozy local spot can make a busy week feel grounded, or how sharing a meal can instantly turn neighbors into family. This October, our annual Food & Drink issue is our love letter to those moments and the talented people who create them. From the passionate chefs and creative bartenders making our local culinary scene thrive, to the spots where memories are made over shared appetizers and late-night laughs, this issue celebrates the flavor of our community. On a personal note, my own family table is a whole lot bigger and sweeter. As many of you know, we welcomed twins into our home! While life is a bit chaotic and full of late-night feedings, I can’t think of a more fitting backdrop than an issue dedicated to nourishment, family, and togetherness. As the autumn air cools things down, I hope this issue inspires you to pull up a chair, try a new local spot, and savor the good stuff, both on the menu and around your table.

FLAVOR & Flair A CHEF AND BARTENDER SHOWCASE AT BEACH GLASS LOUNGE

At Beach Glass Lounge, fine dining meets the easygoing, welcoming spirit of Lake Erie. Steering the kitchen through this unique balance is Head Chef Danny, whose passion for culinary craftsmanship and team culture shines through every dish that leaves the pass. We sat down with Chef Danny to discuss his journey, his philosophy, and what makes the kitchen at Beach Glass Lounge tick.

THE JOURNEY: FROM FAMILY MEALS TO FINE DINING

Chef Danny’s path to running a kitchen didn’t begin in a traditional culinary school classroom, it started at home. As the oldest of seven children, he grew up cooking family meals whenever he got the chance. That early love for feeding people naturally evolved into a career.

“It’s really a blend of classic recipes, locally sourced ingredients, local trends, and, most importantly, what our guests are asking for”

16

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | L I FE + CU LT U RE

“I didn’t go to culinary school, I’ve been hands-on in kitchens the whole way, learning as much as I could specifically in fine dining over the past ten years,” Danny shares. His big turning point came at a smaller Italian restaurant where he worked alongside an exceptionally knowledgeable team. “From the chef and sous down to the prep cooks, everyone on that line had something valuable to teach me, and it just fueled the fire.” Danny joined Beach Glass Lounge as sous chef when the doors first opened roughly two years ago. Through a leadership transition, he stepped into the head chef role, his first time running a kitchen. “It’s sharpened everything I learned in those years before it,” he notes.

CULINARY PHILOSOPHY & THE CRAFT

Danny describes his personal culinary style as fresh and balanced. Rather than overloading a plate, his goal is to create harmony. “Personally, what I find most satisfying is when I can taste every single flavor and texture I built into a dish. That translates into how we run the menu here: diverse flavor profiles and portioning that give every element room to actually be tasted.” Beyond flavor, Danny views cooking as a physical discipline. A key lesson he leans on daily is “moving with intention.” In a fast-paced kitchen, fluid movement and good posture save strain over long shifts. “Once you’re really flowing, it’s like a dance,” he says.

CHEF’S PICKS & SEASONAL SOURCING

When asked for a menu recommendation, Danny points to a dish close to his heart: the Steak Au Poivre. “I personally worked on that recipe for the better part of a year before I got it just right years ago. It’s just too good not to try.” For a personal favorite behind the scenes, he craves the double bone pork chop served blushing pink with a sweet and salty house-made chutney, designed to complement every bite. Being situated right on Lake Erie heavily influences the menu, especially through partnerships with local purveyors like Bergman’s, The Corn Lady, and Thistle Dew for fresh microgreens. “The local purveyors know what they’re doing, and I can’t thank them enough,” Danny explains. “This fall, I’m building specials around the fresh harvest, especially carrots, broccoli, and sweet potatoes. It’s less about chasing a trend and more about matching the kitchen to what the season is actually giving us.”

UPSCALE, LAKE LIFE & TEAM ENERGY

What sets Beach Glass Lounge apart is its distinct atmosphere: “upscale, but lake life.” Danny describes it as a playful line where elevated hospitality meets a relaxed vibe. “On our best days, everybody is having a good time, guests and crew alike. Great food, great drinks, great times.” That positive energy starts in the kitchen, where camaraderie, music, and mutual respect

18

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | L I FE + CU LT U RE

keep the team motivated. “The energy in the kitchen is awesome, most of us are really in it for the love of the game,” Danny says. “When it gets busy, I float to stations and ask my crew, ‘What can I do to help you?’ That way they know I’ve got their backs. The culture in this kitchen is something we take huge pride in.”

BEHIND THE BAR: A CONVERSATION WITH THE LEAD BARTENDER AT BEACH GLASS LOUNGE

At Beach Glass Lounge, fine dining extends seamlessly to the bar, where craftsmanship, creativity, and genuine hospitality take center stage. Working alongside Chef Danny’s kitchen, the lead bartender brings a dynamic approach to mixology, crafting thoughtful cocktails while ensuring every guest feels right at home. We sat down to discuss the science, style, and secret ingredients that define the bar program.

THE SPARK & BEHIND-THE-SCENES CHEMISTRY

Every great bartender has a story of how they found their place behind the pass. For the lead bartender at Beach Glass Lounge, it all began with community. “I got my start behind the bar through the people I met and the connections I made, which opened the door for me to discover bartending,” he shares. “What made me fall in love with mixology was the combination of creativity and science behind the craft. Being able to experiment with flavors, techniques, and ingredients to create something truly unique is incredible. But most importantly, creating long-lasting relationships with our guests is ultimately my biggest love.” “The biggest responsibility often not seen in the public eye is balancing the personalities of the bartenders and promoting a chemistry where you all blend into one unified experience while still standing out as individuals,” he explains. That vibrant balance pays off, if regulars had to describe his personality behind the bar in just three words, they’d tell you: vibrant, eccentric, and entertaining.

INSPIRATION, HARMONY & THE SIGNATURE POUR

When it comes time to build out a new menu, inspiration is drawn from every direction. “It’s really a blend of classic recipes, locally sourced ingredients, local trends, and, most importantly, what our guests are asking for,” he notes. “Beyond that, I’m always trying to create something that feels timeless and unique, with a new flare that’s just different enough to stand out.” That innovation doesn’t happen in a vacuum. The bar team collaborates closely with Chef Danny and the kitchen staff to ensure every sip complements what’s on the plate. CONTINUED >

“At Beach Glass Lounge, our mindset is that when you sit down at our bar, you’re not just a guest, you’re family.

“When we’re developing both the cocktail and food menus, we sit down together and think about which drinks complement specific menu items, as well as which cocktails can be versatile enough to pair beautifully across the entire menu. It’s really about creating a complete experience where the food and drinks work together rather than feeling like two separate menus.” As for the personal favorite drink to make for guests? That honor goes to their standout Espresso Martini. “It’s especially meaningful to me because I hand-created it from the very beginning. From developing the recipe and balancing the flavors to the final presentation,” he says. “I love watching it come together because it’s a cocktail that combines creativity, technique, and presentation in a way that really reflects my approach behind the bar. Everyone has an espresso martini, but not everyone has ours. The high demand and craftsmanship make it all around one of the best in the state.”

20

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | L I FE + CU LT U RE

HOSPITALITY & DUAL-BAR VIBES

At Beach Glass Lounge, hospitality is about far more than just quick service; it’s about making a lasting impression from the moment a seat is taken. “At Beach Glass Lounge, our mindset is that when you sit down at our bar, you’re not just a guest, you’re family. Our goal is to put you in a good mood, help you maintain that good mood, and make sure you feel entertained, welcomed, and taken care of throughout your entire experience. We believe hospitality goes beyond simply making a great drink; it’s about creating an atmosphere where people can relax, connect, laugh, and feel at home.” That tailored experience extends across the entire property, giving guests options depending on the energy of their evening. “We offer two bars, inside as well as outside. Each has its own distinct mood and personality, so whether you’re looking for a lively night out or something more relaxed and intimate, there’s a space that fits the exact kind of night you’re trying to have.”

The Greater Sandusky Partnership continues to serve as a catalyst for growth, vibrant communities, and economic momentum across Erie County and the surrounding region. Formed to unify regional economic development, chamber-style business support, and community advancement under one forward-thinking banner, GSP was created with a clear vision: to make the Sandusky Bay area the premier place to live, work, visit, and invest. Today, GSP is actively driving that vision forward. Through targeted initiatives, the Partnership empowers local businesses CONTINUED >

with resources, networking hubs, and growth opportunities. Beyond commerce, GSP focuses heavily on nurturing local talent and leadership, fostering young professional networks, supporting summer internship programs, and creating accessible pipelines for regional leaders to shape the community’s future. Momentum is building as GSP advances its integration with Shores & Islands Ohio, bringing together two organizations whose work has long supported the region in complementary ways. GSP works to strengthen the region through economic development, business support, and talent attraction. Bringing these efforts together creates an opportunity to tell a more complete story about the region as a place to visit, and live, work, and invest. Community members, business leaders, and regional partners are invited to celebrate these major milestones at GSP’s upcoming Annual Meeting. Attendees will gain a comprehensive overview of GSP’s work throughout 2026, including

The program will feature insightful conversations with regional industry leaders alongside a review of key economic data and growth trends driving the region forward. To highlight local achievements, GSP will also present three prestigious honors: the Legacy Leadership Award, the Young Professional Award, and the Regional Collaboration Award. The Greater Sandusky Partnership is building a stronger, more connected system for all, proving that when our region works as one, the possibilities are endless.

DRINK INSPIRATION

As summer gives way to crisp autumn air along Lake Erie, Beach Glass Lounge wanted to capture the warmth and comfort of the season in a single glass. The Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini brings together our crafted cocktail experience with the nostalgic flavors of fall, an invitation to slow down, savor the moment, and toast the changing leaves with friends and family.

Pair our Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini with the Steak Au Poivre—tender filet medallions finished with a bourbon pepper cream sauce and blue cheese. The richness of the steak, along with warm bourbon and pepper notes, beautifully complements the cocktail’s bold espresso and autumn spice. This signature entrée holds a special place on the menu, as Chef Danny personally spent the better part of a year fine-tuning the recipe to absolute perfection. His dedication to mastering the rich, peppery glaze ensures every bite delivers a balance of deep flavor and tenderness. It’s a labor of love from the kitchen that elevates the entire dining experience alongside the bar’s seasonal pours. Much like the chef’s culinary process, our lead bartender hand-created this signature drink from the very beginning, carefully balancing flavors and refining techniques to stand apart from the rest. His commitment to crafting a distinct, high-demand pour ensures the cocktail matches the craftsmanship on the plate.

FEATURE ART PAIRING

Spooky meets sophisticated in this seasonal pairing. Featured alongside the Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini is a handcrafted glass ghost from Ferguson Gallery. Masterfully blown with delicate white and gray swirl detailing, each ghostly figure is meticulously shaped by hand, giving every unique piece its own charming expression and translucent glow to elevate your fall celebrations. Pairing fine handcrafted art with seasonal cocktails is the perfect way to elevate your October hosting, offering a festive centerpiece that lasts long after the final sip. Discover unique, locally made glass art pieces at Ferguson Gallery to add a little spirit to your home this season.
