We can invest in a lot of things such as our community, our relationships, our finances, and our health with the hope that the effort will have a positive impact. We can serve the community through volunteerism and investment in future generations.  Investing in our finances helps create wealth, meets long term financial goals and secures our retirement. On a personal level, we can invest in our families and enrich relationships by giving time and effort to the people in our lives that mean the most to us. This type of investment has the most meaningful impact to not only ourselves, but also to the people closest to us.

Amanda, Caleb, and Isaac come from a family of eight! What an amazing family! Amanda is 19 years old and was adopted from China. She was born with spina bifida, which causes her to be paralyzed from the waist down. She uses a wheelchair and other medical equipment and has had many major surgeries since she’s been home. Adopted at four weeks old, Caleb, who is now ten, was born with calcifications on his brain and has severe autism. Adopted at five months old, Isaac, who is now ten, was born with Pallister-Killian Syndrome, which is a rare genetic disorder.

Robotics and LEGO Fortnite camp

Robotics and LEGO Fortnite camp is coming to CMoA April 1 - 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for students ages 812. Campers will be able to build and program robots to engage in various challenges such as robot obstacle courses, mazes, and more fun. Exciting matches during part of the week and the other half offers a creative fusion of two popular worlds— LEGO and the iconic Fortnite game.

The City of Roswell is planning to enter into a contract with Fulton County Schools (FCS) to purchase the former Crabapple Middle School property at 10700 Crabapple Road in Roswell for $6.5 million. The site is just over 20 acres, already zoned for civic use, and directly borders Roswell Area Park, making it ideal for future expansion of the city’s parks and recreation programming.

Roswell High School (RHS) is proud to announce that Ryan Koch (basketball) and Mikayla Middleton (volleyball, pictured) have been selected by Handshake America, a leadership development organization for athletes, to receive scholarships this spring for their future endeavors. Ryan and Mikayla attended eight scheduled sessions with their Handshake America coaches over a year. RHS Athletic Director Ben Sutter shared, “Ryan and Mikayla make everyone better around them because they are great teammates!"

KITCHEN REMODELS WILL OFFER THE HIGHEST ROI ON THE INTERIOR OF THE HOME.

It is the highest utilization room and it’s a public area. The kitchen requires a casual eating area where 95% of all family eating will take place, regardless of the family’s intentions. More and more these eating areas are incorporated into the kitchen island, where five to six people

can sit around three sides and face each other. The function of the kitchen has increased to include social aspects of our lives, just as coffee houses have, and the size of the kitchen often must increase too. This is often done by demising the wall between the kitchen and den, or kitchen and dining room.

HIGHEST ROI KITCHEN DESIGN STRATEGIES:

Create “flow and connectivity.” This is often done by incorporating an island, respecting the minimum 42” walk path dimension, and leaving increased space for oven and refrigerator door swings.

Choosing lighter colors and textures for countertops and backsplashes makes the room feel warmer and more voluminous.

Grouping tall cabinets together, where possible, to yield long uninterrupted countertop runs.

Sizing the appliances proportionally to the size of the home.

Establish and design around a focal point, usually a cooktop or range on a perimeter wall.

Establishing symmetry with an island in the foreground is a typical design strategy.

HIGHEST ROI DESIGN STRATEGIES FOR REMODELING A MASTER BATHROOM:

Increasing the size of the shower and including two shower heads.

Add a free-standing tub, made of stone, with ample open areas on either side, so as not to look cramped. For people interested in aging in place, a tub can be hard to get in and out of, so a beautiful tub in a tub deck can be equally as beautiful and also safer.

Choose a furniture-looking vanity with ample storage and undermount sink with quartzite, quartz or marble counter.

Focus on lighting with ample recessed cans for ambient light, over-vanity or sconces around mirrors, and LED accent lighting above the cabinets.

Removing all the framed glass from the shower and replacing with frameless glass has a dramatic effect on the entire bathroom.

TURNING BYSTANDERS INTO UPSTANDERS

BE THE VOICE

Today's kids, no matter their age, are facing a whole range of feelings from self-doubt to depression. They're juggling what their friends and family expect from them, trying to do well in school, and even trying to fit into society's idea of what's beautiful. It's a lot for anyone to handle.

A Roswell based nonprofit organization called Be THE Voice (BTV), which was created in 2015 to defuse bullying, continues

to empower young people to be upstanders for kindness and inclusion. The program, which is now available in schools across Georgia, was founded by Roswell Rotary Club members Debbie Cwalina and Michael Schoppenhorst.

“I read a disturbing article about the increase in adolescent suicide due to cyberbullying,” explained Cwalina. “Having grown up with a sibling who struggled socially, I knew how hard kids could be on someone who was a little ‘different.’ To learn that kids were resorting to suicide to escape the pain angered me to my core. I knew I had to do something.”

The Roswell Rotary Club was willing to help.

“Our group supports many local charities, but I count it as a special part of my year as President that I could participate in the launch of BTV by providing some of the initial seed money needed to breathe life into this mission,” said Jim Coyle.

Be THE Voice has morphed into a 5 month student-driven movement that inspires students to “Do what is right, not what is easy” by equipping them with the interpersonal skills to become a “voice” of kindness and inclusion within their schools and communities. The initiative revolves around a weekly video series that uses impactful messages from kids,

social media influencers, athletes, entertainers, and entrepreneurs. They share first-hand experiences on a variety of topics like bullying, feeling left out, anxiety, mental health, stereotypes, ethnicity and more. They include tips and advice plus they issue a call-toaction. The program also includes upbeat networking activities to drive home the important messaging.

And it’s working. “One of our largest school districts reported a significant decrease in bullying incidents in all three of our program levels comparing 2022 to 2023,” said Cwalina. “Educators and counselors continue to tell us how the program is shaping students' mindset and giving them confidence.”

Be THE Voice is important to the world because it offers a safe and creative space for change makers,” expressed Jahkil Jackson, founder of Project I Am and BTV ambassador. “I benefited from the program a great deal because of the exposure and network that the opportunity allowed for me as I made my mark in the social entrepreneurial space.”

“Be THE Voice has helped me create change for future generations,” added Justin Sather of Justin’s Frog Project and BTV ambassador. “Because of BTV, I was able to collect hundreds of letters from kids who saw my message and wanted to help. Those letters were given to world leaders at the United Nations Conferences to convince them to protect 30% of the planet by 2030.”

Be THE Voice is not just a program. It’s become a way of life.

Building Relationships in Roswell

Meet two local business owners who call Roswell home.

Matt West and David Combs work together and are long-time Roswell residents. Their work at Canton Wealth Partners is serious, but family and community always come first. In this, our investment issue, we wanted to introduce you to two of your neighbors and hear how they invest their most precious assets - their time.

Dave and Kristen Combs moved to Roswell immediately after getting married at St. Andrew Church on the river in Roswell. Their first home was in the Whitehall neighborhood and they moved to Grand Veridian in 2001 where they raised their kids, Tyler and Ryan, and have lived ever since. Dave spent many years as a volunteer baseball coach at Sandy Plains Baseball in Marietta where Ryan played. They attend St Peter Chanel

Catholic Church. He and Kristen’s go-to spots are Lazaro’s Cuban Cuisine for lunch or dinner, the Vick for breakfast and lunch, and Crazy Love for coffee. Ryan’s pick is Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar. They watch their nephews play tennis at Roswell Area Park and Dave still attends Blessed Trinity and Roswell High games since Ryan went to BT and Taylor is a Roswell High grad.

“I would love for Roswell to keep the feeling of community and family and allow for continued balanced growth,” says Dave. We couldn’t agree more.

The  Painted Utility Box (PUB) project is a partnership initiative with RAF and the City of Roswell designed to enhance the everyday environment and bring creativity to spaces large and small throughout the city.

This project grew after the success of a volunteer-driven project at the corner of Canton and Woodstock in 2021. Building on that success, in 2022, ten incredible artists were selected from an open call and commissioned to transform the boxes with beautiful images that speak to the spirit and nature of Roswell.

Arts Fund, an independent 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization was founded to strengthen the scope of public arts in the city and to champion the ability of the arts to excite the imagination, strengthen public places, and encourage conversation.

Peaches, pecans, and cucumbers are staples of a Peach State summer, especially in Middle Georgia, where Fort Valley and the surrounding area are home to three of the biggest peach growers distributed throughout the state. Many peach orchards also grow some of the best pecans in the country, a major agricultural export. Just about every Georgian can recall a pivotal juice-running-down-your-face, peach-eating epiphany, and the best part is that they are not just good in cobbler, but also in salads too.

PEACH AND CUCUMBER SALAD WITH HONEY RICOTTA AND SPICED PECANS

Serves 4

INGREDIENTS

• 2 large peaches, cut in wedges, skin on

• 1 cup English cucumber, cut in wedges

• ½ cup ricotta

• 2 teaspoons honey

• ½ teaspoon lemon zest

• 1 head butter or bibb lettuce

• 1 recipe apple cider pepper jelly vinaigrette

• 1 recipe spiced pecans

DIRECTIONS

1. Lightly toss peaches and cucumbers with vinaigrette. Set aside.

2. In a separate bowl, mix ricotta with honey and lemon zest. Set aside.

3. Place a large dollop of ricotta mixture in the center of a large, flat serving dish. Use the back of a large spoon to spread toward the edges of the dish. Add more ricotta as needed. Arrange lettuce leaves on top, then spoon peach and cucumber mixture over. Sprinkle with spiced pecans and mint.

APPLE CIDER PEPPER JELLY VINAIGRETTE

INGREDIENTS

• 3 tablespoons pepper jelly

• 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

• ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil

• salt & pepper

• 1 teaspoon fresh mint, finely minced, plus more for garnish

DIRECTIONS

1. Whisk pepper jelly and vinegar together. Slowly whisk in olive oil. Season with salt & pepper then stir in mint.

SPICED PECANS

INGREDIENTS

• 2 cups pecan halves

• 2 tablespoons butter, melted

• 1 teaspoon sugar

• ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika

• ½ teaspoon cinnamon

• pinch cayenne pepper

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

2. Spread pecan halves on baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes.

3. In a small bowl, whisk together sugar and spices.

4. Combine toasted pecan halves and melted butter. Sprinkle pecans evenly with spice mixture. Return pecans to oven and cook for an additional 15 minutes or until pecans have a toasted, nutty flavor. Remove from oven and let cool. Chop pecans coarsely.

Bright-eyed, fresh out of school and passionate as ever, siblings Sarah, Miriam and Joshua Chari set out to make a career of their love for music. They quickly discovered an entire community of both children and adults with that same fire for creating and performing—and Music By Tritone was born. Since 2002, they've been serving the communities of Roswell, East Cobb and Alpharetta through dynamic music lessons and educational programs.

When creating Music By Tritone, they envisioned a new approach to music education. Neither of the most common methods for teaching music sufficiently met student needs. Lessons were either too traditional and tedious, with no room for creative experimentation, or they were unstructured and pedagogically unsound, with no real roadmap to success.

"With Music By Tritone, we felt we could inspire, motivate and teach fundamentals systematically while allowing students to shape their own curriculum, repertoire and musical journey," says owner Joshua Chari.

With an impressive team of professional jazz, rock and classical musicians at the helm, Music By Tritone has progressed to offer a broad range of services. One of the most popular is weekly one-on-one lessons for piano, guitar, ukulele, voice, violin, viola, cello, bass, drums, saxophone, brass or woodwinds guided by expert instructors with professional backgrounds in their respective instruments. No two sessions are exactly alike. Classes cater to students and their individual goals by design, whether learning a song, prepping for a competition or building a music career.

Joshua is also avid in his belief that "Music is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children." Not only for its physical and neuro-muscular benefits, but also for the educational enrichment it fosters. So much so that colleges seek out applicants with a history of musical study. Carving Out Me Time

This bright shiny Blue Ridge home will put you in a good mood.

I love Blue Ridge - with its winding country roads leading to waterfalls, creeks, hiking trails and wide meadows.

I go to Blue Ridge for all this, but mostly for the light.

Exposure to sunlight increases the brain's release of a hormone called serotonin. Serotonin is associated with boosting mood and helping a person feel calm and focused.

So, this Vacasa rental property caught my attention. And held it for a gorgeous weekend of walks, fly fishing, fireside chats and long afternoons reading and watching the shadows shift. My sister-inlaw headed into town to shop and grab groceries (an easy 10-minute drive from the house), and I posted up in the hot tub and started dinner.  Others kept the fire stoked on the porch and joined me to watch the sunset over the farm field and meadow across the street.

Now, I love a log cabin, but to experience North Georgia in all its glory is to

bask in the light. This modern home offers an elevated stay. The two en suite king bedrooms (one with a soaking tub) have floor-to-ceiling windows and enough light to read or knit on the bed during the day. Or, close the blinds and just nap. The Roswell Farmers & Artisans Market opens April 13, and will bring fresh produce and baked goods, gifts and art to Roswell every Saturday through October at the Roswell Presbyterian Church. THE PAW PAW BROWN PROJECT

The ad said, "1969 Bronco for sale." Upon closer inspection, members of the Georgia Broncos Club discovered this was more than a classic car. It once belonged to Phillip “Paw Paw” Brown, a devoted family man and Bronco enthusiast.

His wish was to restore the cherished vehicle to its original glory so that his daughter Kymberly Matthews and grandchildren Zack Smith and Kylie Elliot could enjoy it for years to come. Sadly, Paw Paw passed away before fulfilling this dream, leaving the Bronco abandoned behind his home.

“When I think about my daddy there are a lot of things that come to mind, but the Bronco is in the forefront,” says Kymberly. “He loved that vehicle and was always doing something with it up until the day he left this earth.”

Faced with the harsh reality of limited resources and expertise, his family reluctantly decided to part with it. Little did they know this decision would spark a wave of compassion and support from an unexpected source.

Georgia Broncos Club founder Brian LaFluer couldn’t stand by idly. He assembled a team of members, volunteers and sponsors to save the vehicle. “This is far beyond the typical restoration project,” says Brian. “The emotional connection runs deep and we wanted to help keep the Bronco in the family.”

Lead builders Gabe and Erin Donnelson of Strange Klassics Garage eagerly took on the project. They explain, “The goal was not just to restore

a vehicle, but to revive the spirit of someone special and give the family more beautiful memories with it.”

The Bronco required extensive work to bring it back to life. That included metalwork, rust repair, engine refurbishment, and a complete overhaul of the vehicle's systems. The team not only restored it, but documented the journey in a five-part video series produced by Tran Bui Productions, which can be seen on the group's YouTube channel, website, Facebook and Instagram pages.

The revised Bronco will be revealed and presented to the family at a special event hosted by Deep Roots Wine Market and Tasting Room in Roswell later this month. Paw Paw was a Scout leader for more than 30 years and loved going on camping trips. Kymberly plans to take the Bronco to his favorite campsite on its first drive.

“We are overwhelmed and forever grateful to the Georgia Broncos Club community for their kindness and graciousness,” Kymberly says. “It's never easy to lose someone, especially your daddy, best friend and hero, so having this Bronco feels like part of him is with me.”
