ust like the workout this month, the recipes and food options presented are to keep
with the same theme. These are to give you great options, save you time, and keep you on track without having to break the bank, or take you off your game plan. Is mental well-being equally important as is nutrition and fitness? Yes, and in reality your mental, emotional, physical and nutritional health are inseparable. They all affect each other. When one is out of balance we usually find imbalances in the other areas as well. When be build balance in one of these areas, by laws of the universe we will see balance being achieved in the other areas as well. In other words, they feed each other. These recipes are just a template. Be creative with your food and have fun. Use alternatives to suite you, your needs and your palate. If you have any allergies sub the ingredients out for something that is safe for you to ingest. Take responsibility and have fun with this.

I
ARTICLE SHELLEY OTTENBACHER
n the late 1950s, a group of citizens in the Rochester area incorporated for the purpose of establishing a hospital to
serve their community. They were known as the Bertha Van Hoosen Hospital Board in honor of resident and pioneer-
ing female surgeon, Dr. Bertha Van Hoosen. At the same time, the board of trustees of Crittenton General Hospital in Detroit was considering an expansion program. At the suggestion of the Greater Detroit Area Hospital Council, the two groups merged in 1963 and began planning a new hospital for the Rochester community and surrounding areas to be built on a 30-acre site generously donated by Howard McGregor. The Crittenton Hospital Auxiliary was established to volunteer, fundraise and host events and activities to expand community interest in the new hospital. The Auxiliary actively raised funds in the community—even going door to door—in the belief that the residents this new hospital would serve would contribute to its funding. The initial building consisted of only the West Tower. Over the next 40 years, Crittenton entered an era of expansion to meet the needs of a growing community, and to keep pace with advances in health care technology, as well as changes in the way health care is provided.
12
Rochester Hills Lifestyle | June 2017
In 2015, Crittenton as one of the last freestanding hospitals in Michigan in an era of consolidation, signed an affiliation agreement to become part of Ascension. Now part of the largest Catholic health system in the country, Crittenton Hospital enjoys the support of a national system, which shares best clinical practices, cost efficiencies and quality improvements. Over the years the Crittenton Auxiliary has played an important role with signature events like the Gourmet Gala and the Crittenton Classic Golf Outing, as well as the generous and committed donations of so many residents. Crittenton proudly celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and is bringing back the Crittenton Classic Golf Outing as part of the celebration. Tim Crawford, local resident, owner of The Crawford Insurance Group and a member of the Crittenton Hospital Board, is the chairman of the 2017 Crittenton Classic Golf outing. Crawford is a huge proponent of the Crittenton Classic, serving 15-plus years on the executive golf committee.
“It is always an honor to serve on the Crittenton Hospital Board and the Crittenton Golf Classic committee, especially now as part of Ascension,” Crawford says. “John Gregorich and I have chaired this event for many years, mostly because we love working with the committee, the associates of the hospital and making little improvements within our community. Many individuals on this committee have served for numerous years—some more than 20, so it is always fun to catch up with one another." Crawford says he is excited about this year’s outing. "This year we are celebrating 50 years of world-class hospital care in our community. We have decided to use both of Oakland University’s golf courses—the Katke-Cousins and the R & S Sharf. These are two of the best in the state and certainly within the metro area. Having both courses allows us to have all our golfers play at the same time and then enjoy the
fabulous dinner prepared by Opus One. We are looking forward to a great turnout.” The day of golf begins with a shotgun start at noon, with lunch served on the course. Golf will be followed by a dinner catered by the renowned Opus One. The day also includes contests, prizes and a silent auction. The 2017 Crittenton Classic proceeds will benefit nursing and physician scholarship initiatives. “We want to keep the best and the brightest nursing and medical students right here in our community,” Margaret Dimond, President and CEO of Crittenton says. “Nursing and physician scholarship programs will be designed to retain nurse graduates within Crittenton through school scholarship and nurse residency programs. Funds for physician scholarships are intended to seed physicians within the Rochester community, to begin and retain successful clinical practices.”

wenty-seven thousand cigars. Daily. Zino Platinum Crown, Avo, Rocky Patel, Ashton, Arturo Fuente, Opus X, Macanudo Gold and CAO Flathead are just some of owner Marty Dadou’s favorites. If you are a lover of cigars or simply interested in expanding your cigar palate, the Godfather Cigar Martini Lounge is for you. A full bar also serves up Old-Fashioneds, martinis and more. The Godfather Cigar Martini Lounge houses two lounges—one downstairs and a private upstairs lounge for VIP members. With 134 lockers for VIP members, it's the largest cigar bar lounge in the state of Michigan. The Godfather sets the stage for respite and relaxation. Sink into plush leather couches surrounded by dark cherry wood finishes, copper ceilings, a fireplace, original artwork, soft lighting and large plasma TVs. Dadou, an award-winning cigar judge for perfect pairings knows how to execute cigar tastings paired with the right scotch or bourbon. Dadou also hosts celebrity events that bring Rocky Patel all the way from Rocky Patel Cigars in Florida. Add piano night to their Friday schedule, and the Godfather is more than cigars and martinis. If you would rather pair some delicious eats like shrimp cocktail or a panini with your cigar, you can do that, too. A new location will be opening soon in Shelby Township, making the second Godfather Cigar in the top 10 in the country for largest cigar bars. With a full kitchen, walk-in wine cellar and 1,200 square feet for the patio alone, this addition will provide another unique cigar experience. 14
Rochester Hills Lifestyle | June 2017
Dadou emphasizes he is not just in the business of cigars for himself. He also goes out of his way to give back to his community. He recently wrapped up a fundraiser for the Veterans of Oakland Township where Godfather Cigars and Martini Lounge donated their proceeds and delivered 14 cigar boxes to their organization. "We purchased a bench on-site" Dadou says. "A lot of our money goes to charity. I believe in giving, and God will give to you.” “I think women tend to assume that cigar bars are only for men or they are too smoky, like, ‘I just got my hair done, forget it.' But, more couples are at the cigar bar and more females—girls night out and bachelorette parties—come to the Godfather. Dadou makes sure to include flavored cigars like mango and vanilla to satisfy everyone's taste. "You have to create a clean environment and give a comfortable ambiance for both men and women. It can’t just be a ‘man cave.’ I have a ventilation system that constantly cleans the air and takes the white clouds and smoke out of the air and brings in fresh air.” Dadou jokes that a customer recently said, “'I was there for five hours, and my wife couldn’t smell the cigar smoke on me!' We are female-friendly, and that is what makes us different. We care." When asked about the name, Dadou says, “I am a huge fan of the movies. Godfather is also my nickname." Allow the Godfather of cigars to influence you with high-quality cigars, drinks and food as he pioneers a good time at the Godfather Cigar and Martini Lounge. The Godfather Cigar Martini Lounge, 6878 N. Rochester Road, is open noon to 2 a.m. Monday-Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. 248.652.1400

Their draft list is always changing. Joining their advantageous mug club brings you even closer to the Fillmore 13 family and allows you special access to “members only” offers and special events. PERFECTING THE ART OF THE DEAL IN TODAY'S COMPETITIVE MARKET NOT ALL RE AL ESTATE AGENTS ARE CRE ATED EQUALLY ARTICLE V. HABOUSH
A
s the market strengthens and inventory is creeping back up, Dan Gutfreund and Candice Rich forecast continuing promise and opportunity for sellers and buyers in the desirable Oakland County, Michigan market. Their robust track record of sales in the area and proven expertise matching purchasers with prized properties attests to the fact that not all real estate agents are created equally in experience or accomplishments. For those who are thinking of selling their home or purchasing a new one in Oakland Township, Rochester or Troy, it is in their best interest to choose the highest caliber of realtor with the most extensive results to ensure ultimate success. Real estate is both an emotional and financial investment with many moving parts, as well as great reward. Top producers like Gutfreund and Rich have a seasoned understanding of how to professionally and creatively market special properties to sell at the highest price. Agents who seek to excel must offer cutting-edge insight on all aspects of the sale process such as competitive pricing, market and
trend analysis, improvements and staging to optimize appeal, and capitalizing on all available resources to generate the broadest local, domestic and international exposure which is imperative today. Because selling or purchasing a home is one of life’s most important decisions, the key to satisfaction and the best investment return come from working with an agent who offers much more than mere knowledge. Gutfreund and Rich believe that superior communication, stellar service and savvy negotiating are what every client, in every price range, should naturally receive and truly deserves. Dan Gutfreund and Candice Rich of Signature Sotheby’s International are market leaders. Gutfreund is a residential sales, marketing and construction aficionado, and Rich is a Certified Negotiation Expert and (former) accountant for commercial and residential investment firms. Contact Dan Gutfreund at Dan@SignatureSothebys.com and Candice Rich at CandiceRich@ SignatureSothebys.com.

Registered Business Alliance Inc. Franchise Consultant
Are you Franchise Material? A very common question I get is, “How do I know I can run a franchise business? ”Becoming a business owner for the first time can be terrifying! So what makes someone franchise material? Here is a list of the TOP FIVE characteristics: 1. The ability to follow a system Most franchise failures occur because owners don’t follow the system provided – somehow, these owners thought they were “smarter” than their franchisor – and you have to wonder, why did they buy a franchise to begin with if that’s how they felt? 2. Emotional Maturity Business ownership requires your “coming to the plate” and handling whatever pitches are thrown at you. You have to be able to persevere to receive life’s rewards.
Own your future.

3. Positive Attitude It isn’t about being able to “sell” – it’s about ensuring that positive relationships can be made. 4. Knowing When To Be Humble The smartest, most successful people in the world will often tell you they are able to have achieved what they achieved in life because they “knew their limitations – and asked for help when they needed it.” What they are saying is that they knew when to be humble. 5. Belief in Calculated Risk Franchising is “one step up” from pure entrepreneurism. What this means is that if you are all about taking huge leaps, and big risks –because what you LOVE is the big potential payout-then what you really seek is being a real entrepreneur, and franchising may not be the right choice for you.

ROTARY CLUB THE VISION OF ONE MAN ARTICLE RHONDA PANCZYK
SOME OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST HISTORY-MAKERS WERE ROTARY MEMBERS
“W
hatever Rotary may mean to us, to the world it will be known by the results it achieves.” —Paul P. Harris The 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on February 23, 1905, as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member. ROTARY'S ONGOING COMMITMENT
Rotarians have not only been present for major events in history— they've been a part of them. From the beginning, three key elements have remained strong throughout Rotary: Rotary is truly international. Only 16 years after being founded, Rotary had clubs on six continents. Today, they are working together from around the globe both digitally and in person to solve some of the world’s most challenging problems. Rotary perseveres in tough times. During WWII, Rotary clubs in Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain and Japan were forced to disband. Despite the risks, many continued to meet informally and following the war’s end, Rotary members joined together to rebuild their clubs and their countries. Rotary's commitment to service is ongoing. The organization began its fight against polio in 1979 with a project to immunize 6 million children in the Philippines. To date, Rotary along with their partners, have reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent worldwide. SOME HISTORICAL MEN IN ROTARY
Rotarians are your neighbors, your community leaders and some of the world’s greatest history-makers: • Charles R. Walgreen Jr., chairman of the board of the Walgreen Company, Rotary Club of Chicago • Dr. Charles H. Mayo, co-founder of Mayo Clinic, Rotary Club of Rochester, Minnesota
