Summer's Sweetest Joys SUMMERTIME IS MAGIC. What makes it special for you? Maybe it’s outdoor festivals and live music, or farmers markets filled with fresh food and cheerful neighbors.

Perhaps it’s picnicking with the kids after a nature hike, grilling with friends on warm Saturday nights, or gathering with family to celebrate the 4th of July. If nature is what inspires you most, the magic of summer might be found in alpine meadow wildflowers or an epic afternoon thunderstorm observed from your porch. Many of you may experience it best when drizzled with a little adrenaline: river rafting, peak bagging, trail running, and mountain biking. Or, maybe you just love the way that late sunlight settles on Mt. Sopris every evening right before the stars come out. Sometimes, the sweetest joys of summer are also the simplest. Whatever you relish most about this season, enjoy it to the fullest. A high country summer’s gentle alchemy is fleeting; that’s what makes it so extraordinary. We know that none of it is meant to last. Soon enough a chill will return to the air—but for now, we’ve still got time to soak up the sun.

GUADELOUPE ISLANDS
04
Made up of five islands, Guadeloupe, a region of France located in the North Caribbean Sea, brings together
French and Caribbean influences for a unique culture like no other. African, French and Indian cultures intersect in Guadeloupe, creating new music and dance forms unique to the islands. Perhaps most notable of these styles is Gwo-Ka, a Guadeloupean folk music combining drum rhythms with responsive singing in Creole and dancing. In 2014, Gwo-Ka was inscribed on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In addition to the culture, explore Guadeloupe's history with a stop at Mémorial ACTe, a cultural center that explores the impact the African slave trade had in shaping the islands’ distinctive culture.
SOUTH AFRICA

A trip to South Africa more often than not involves a safari, but with luxury accommodations popping up in national parks across the country, it doesn't have to mean roughing it. Visit Kruger National Park, one of Africa’s largest game reserves, and go on a guided tour to see elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes and more in their natural habitats. Then, return to a luxury cabin that can meet the needs of a couple on a romantic honeymoon or a family on the adventure of a lifetime. Check out one of the 13 suites at the Singita Lebombo Lodge or spring for the lodge’s private use villa. July 2019 | Roaring Fork Lifestyle

While there can be concern about citrus oils on the skin when exposed to sunlight, lemongrass isn’t a photosensitive oil, and if lemon essential oil is steam-distilled rather than coldpressed (Oui Fresh essential oils are cold-pressed) it can be used on the skin. So just make sure to note which one your lemon oil is and only spray on clothes if you don’t have a skinsafe lemon oil (which is an application method a lot of people prefer anyway if they are more sensitive to oils).
Find more DIYs at ABeautifulMess.com and shop these essential oils and more at OuiFresh.com.

OPEN HOUSE
RELAX ALL SUMMER (AND YEAR-ROUND) IN THIS DISTINCTIVE HOME WITH IRRIGATED ACREAGE AND EXTRAORDINARY VIEWS
Easy Living ARTICLE BRIDGET GREY PHOTOGRAPHY ESTATEPHOTOVIDEO.COM - KIT MITCHELL
IT’S SWEET, SWEET SUMMERTIME—AND THE LIVING IS EASY. As brilliant high-country days and cool, refreshing nights call us outside, we’re reminded of why we love living in the Roaring Fork Valley so much. This stunning one-of-a-kind home, complete with architectural details that welcome the outdoors in, is the perfect base for enjoying every summer delight that Mother Nature has to offer. Equally convenient to Carbondale and Willits, the house sits on over 32 breathtaking acres of land with irrigation and amenities for keeping horses. Its Mt. Sopris views are unparalleled, from both within the home and from its lovely grounds and outdoor spaces. In a home like this, entertaining is a sun-warmed breeze whether your guests relax on one of the inviting stone patios or gather for conversation in the kitchen, which features double dishwashers, custom mesquite cabinetry, a Sub-Zero refrigerator, and more. Throughout the home, unique design touches abound. From ceilings of hand-hewn wooden beams, a master suite with updated his-and-hers bathrooms and walk-in closets, established gardens, and multiple fireplaces, the property is a treasure trove of custom detail and comfortable accents. The designer concept was built around some 40 spectacular reclaimed doors from Mexico, South America, and Morocco. To view this exceptional and peaceful home in all its summer splendor, contact listing broker Carol Hood Peterson of Coldwell Banker Mason Morse at 970.379.0676 or visit MasonMorse.com. CONTINUED >
