Your Inner and Outer Chic

Style is more than the clothes we wear; it's an expression of our innermost selves, a reflection of our personalities, and a statement to the world. It permeates every aspect of our lives, from the way we dress and style our hair to the art we admire, the jewelry we adorn, the vehicles we drive, and even how we approach our wellness routines. Style is the essence of individuality, the spice that makes life interesting, and the canvas upon which we paint our unique stories.

But style isn’t just about following trends, it is also about creating them. Style is the confidence to be yourself in a world that's constantly trying to make you something else. It's the art of making your mark, leaving an impression, and standing out in a sea of sameness.

In this issue, we're thrilled to shine a spotlight on the local businesses and nonprofit organizations that are elevating the Red Rock area with sophistication and panache. We'll explore the psychology behind style, uncovering what drives our choices and how they reflect our inner selves. You'll find insights into the latest trends in fine jewelry and hair styles, get a glimpse into the world of exotic cars, and examine the growing trend of IV wellness. We'll also delve into the world of local art and introduce you to a non-profit that's working tirelessly to advance the Vegas fashion industry.

I'm particularly excited to share a story about an extraordinary woman who embodies the spirit of personalized style and is inspiring others to do the same. You may know her as the publisher of this magazine, but she wears many hats –doctor, author, hypnotherapist, podcast host, wellness expert, and more. Her journey of taking risks to live life on her own terms is not just inspiring, it's a testament to the power of embracing one's unique style. This feature is a must-read that will leave you feeling empowered and motivated.

Remember, style isn't just about what you put on; it's about what you put out into the world. It's the attitude you carry, the energy you exude, and the mark you leave. As you flip through these pages, I hope you'll be inspired to embrace your own style and let it shine brightly. After all, in the grand fashion show of life, you are both the designer and the model. Strut your stuff!

STITCHING TOGETHER VEGAS’ FASHION SCENE

NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION ELEVATES LOCAL TALENT AND DIVERSIFIES ECONOMY THROUGH FASHION INITIATIVES

The Las Vegas Fashion Council (LVFC) is weaving a new narrative for the city known for its glittering casinos and entertainment, positioning it as an emerging fashion hub. Founded in 2013 by Carrie Carter Cooper, this nonprofit organization is on a mission to advance the Las Vegas fashion industry and expand the local economy by sewing relationships between fashion professionals, students, and community leaders.

"LVFC's mission is to create a supportive community that fosters the growth and development of the fashion industry in Las Vegas," explains Carrie, Founder and Executive Director of LVFC. "We provide a platform for designers, artists, and industry professionals to collaborate, share ideas, and showcase their talents."

Since its inception, LVFC has implemented various programs and initiatives to support the local fashion community. These include organizing events, raising scholarship funds for fashion industry students, and providing educational presentations and showcase opportunities for emerging designers and artists.

"We've been able to shine a light on the local fashion scene and provide presentation platforms, media and marketing opportunities, and raise funds for grants and scholarships to further support our fashion community," Carrie notes. "This has allowed us to amplify the work of local designers and contribute to the city's economic diversification."

One of LVFC's key strategies for attracting national and international attention to Las Vegas as a fashion destination is hosting high-profile events. Carrie elaborates, "We organize fashion shows, panel discussions with industry leaders, and design competitions for students and emerging designers. These events attract professionals and media from around the globe, increasing Las Vegas' visibility as a forward-thinking fashion hub."

Annual programs such as artLIVE!, the Little Black Dress design competition, Eco Couture Vegas, and Fashion Focus Forum have become staples of the LVFC calendar. Carrie hints at even more ambitious plans on the horizon: "We're planning several new fashion initiatives and presentations that will attract global exposure, to be announced in the coming months."

Education and nurturing new talent are central to LVFC's mission. The organization has partnered with The Public Education Foundation since 2016 to support 36 students pursuing careers in fashion. "Our Fashion Industry Scholarships and design competitions provide valuable financial support to aspiring fashion students and emerging designers," Carrie says. "Each recipient receives financial prize packages, awards, and LVFC membership, which opens doors to learning opportunities, networking, and unique marketing platforms."

The impact of these educational initiatives extends beyond individual beneficiaries. Carrie believes that "investing in the education and development of young talent creates a brighter future for the fashion industry" as a whole.

LVFC's efforts are not limited to supporting emerging talent. The organization also works to attract established brands and trade shows to Las Vegas, creating a more robust fashion ecosystem in the city. This multifaceted approach aims to position Las Vegas as a serious contender in the global fashion industry.

A PASSION FOR FASHION, PHILANTHROPY, AND COMMUNITY

The Las Vegas Fashion Council is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose membership consists of fashion professionals, students, emerging artists, community leaders, philanthropists and organizations that have a desire to diversify and expand the Las Vegas economy through the efforts of the fashion industry.

VISION

To place Las Vegas as an established leader in the global fashion industry by cultivating relationships between fashion professionals, students, emerging artists, community leaders, and organizations.

“Our Fashion Industry Scholarships and design competitions provide valuable financial support to aspiring fashion students and emerging designers.”

As LVFC continues to grow and evolve, community involvement remains crucial to its success. Carrie encourages the public to engage with the organization in various ways: "People can attend our programs and events, support us through sponsorships and donations, join our committees, volunteer, or become members to gain access to exclusive resources."

Through its efforts, the Las Vegas Fashion Council is steadily transforming the city's image, proving that Las Vegas has more to offer than just bright lights and high stakes. With each event, scholarship, and initiative, LVFC is not only putting Las Vegas on the global fashion map, but also it is enriching the local community, supporting homegrown talent, and contributing to the valley’s economic and cultural development. It is stitching together a diverse and economically significant fashion scene in the heart of the desert, ensuring that Las Vegas will soon be known as much for its style as for its spectacle.

Empowering women through

a

life of love and acceptance

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BIGGEST OBSTACLE TO A WOMAN REACHING HER GOALS AND DREAMS?

In my experience, having worked as a therapist with hundreds of women, I believe that traumas acquired throughout our lives, a wounded inner child, lack of self-love, and fear are the biggest obstacles. I have experienced this firsthand. I battled with my body for over a decade, a struggle that resulted from the traumas that I went through during my childhood, such as my father’s disappearance while we lived in Nigeria, my mother’s alcoholism, and toxic behavior, among other things. My lack of self-love also attracted unavailable men, which contributed to my beliefs that I was unworthy of love. I also had a huge fear of not being loved, accepted, and respected for who I was. I spent many years trying to be someone I was not.

In 2022, after receiving an award for the magazine, I struggled with feelings of unworthiness and imposter syndrome. I couldn't even express my gratitude. However, with the help of a success strategist, I was able to overcome these feelings. Earlier this year, when I received my PhD, it was a transformative experience. I knew I deserved it, and I felt genuinely excited.

We all have stories we tell ourselves; a lot of these stories are associated with the negative self-talk that holds us back. It is only when we decide to change the narrative that we can step into our power and greatness to reach our goals and dreams.

WHY IS SELF-CARE SUCH A CRITICAL PART OF GETTING YOU TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?

In our busy lives we all struggle to find time for ourselves. Especially as women, we wear so many hats. Taking time to nurture yourself and do things you love is crucial for creating a balanced life. It’s a commitment you make to yourself. I have always been very disciplined. Even during my darkest times, I continued to show up for my life. For the last six years, I have meditated every morning for 30 minutes. I also exercise on a consistent basis. Physical activity creates positive chemicals that foster positive feelings. Self-care gives you a sense of accomplishment and contributes to selflove. When you love yourself, you give your best in every aspect of your life.

ASIDE FROM RUNNING A SUCCESSFUL MAGAZINE, YOU RECENTLY LAUNCHED A NEW BOOK AND A PODCAST. WHAT IS YOUR SECRET TO BECOMING AN IMPACTFUL COMMUNICATOR?

I believe it is being authentic and having the courage to express yourself. I started my career in communications in Brazil where I was a television co-host in personal makeover shows, gave weekly interviews for magazines, TV, and radio, and published a couple of books. There, I was known as Milla Mathias, and was nationally recognized as an image and personal lifestyle authority for nearly a decade until I moved to the United States. Inspired by my over comings and transformations, I decided to write a memoir,

which was published in 2015. I relaunched my memoir in the beginning of this year, and at the same time I released my bio series, “Back to Me: Changing How I Feel About My Mother, My Body, and Men,” and launched my podcast, Rise Empower Dream (RED). I am owning my story, and I am ready to share it with the world. I am excited about all my accomplishments, especially my latest book, “108 Days to Activate Your Life,” a practical guide filled with ways to engage and rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit. While I know my message may not resonate with everyone, I believe in my purpose and communicate honestly and authentically. I make it a point to prepare myself every day to inspire women like me to change their lives."

YOU ARE TURNING 50 THIS YEAR. HOW DO YOU VIEW AGE AS A MEASURE OF SUCCESS?

I realize that success to me means the freedom to be the woman I am meant to be. Believe it or not, I love getting older because with time we have the opportunity to really invest in our personal, professional, and spiritual development. As time goes by, I become more confident and passionate about life. Do I like the changes in my neck? Not really, but I embrace them. Embracing where you are in life and having self-confidence is incredibly sexy, no matter your age.

WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU?

This new phase of my journey is all about alignment and adding value to people’s lives. In this

new chapter, my business partner, Gabriella Lopes, and I have been forging incredible partnerships to inspire, uplift, and empower others. Together, we are thrilled to launch a network on Veuit.tv, where we will host multiple channels dedicated to personal, professional, and spiritual development. These channels will feature collaborations with distinguished professionals, founders, entrepreneurs, visionaries, and coaches who are enthusiastic about making a significant impact on people’s lives.

We are also investing in building an engaging community for entrepreneurs, visionaries, and other changemakers. Our goal is to use all our platforms to support individuals who are committed to making positive changes and creating a meaningful impact in their communities and the world.

Every month, at Vueit Studios, we host “High Stakes, High Heels,” an innovative networking event for women. This event not only offers the opportunity to learn the strategic game of poker and its benefits, but also features inspiring speakers who provide valuable insights for personal and professional growth.

In August, Gabriella and I hosted our first spiritual retreat in Las Vegas, called "It's Your Spiritual Journey," which was a tremendous success. This month, we are excited to host our inaugural 3C Summit - Create, Connect, Collaborate. The summit will bring together keynote speakers, panelists, workshops, and podcast sessions, providing attendees with a wealth of knowledge and opportunities to engage and grow.

GOLD AND Gemstone GLAMOUR

BY VIVIAN GREGGORY PHOTOGRAPHY BY HUNTINGTON JEWELERS

As we discover the hottest fine jewelry trends of the year, it's clear that a blend of classic elegance and individuality are at the forefront. Huntington Jewelers, a North Summerlin-based fine jewelry retail store specializing in unique, one-of-a-kind designs and exceptional colored gemstones, provides expert insights into the year's most coveted styles.

Jenny O. Calleri, the owner of Huntington Jewelers, a certified gemologist appraiser and a graduate jeweler gemologist, shares her top picks for this year's jewelry trends. "I had the honor of judging the ninth annual in-store jewelry design competition and attending one of the world's largest jewelry shows in Las Vegas," Jenny O. says. Her firsthand experience offers a valuable perspective on the industry's direction.

HOT ITEMS LIST

Gold with Diamonds and Color: “GOLD GOLD GOLD," exclaims Jenny O. “Gold is dominating the scene, whether adorned with diamonds, colored stones, or featured in engagement and wedding rings.” This trend emphasizes the versatility and timeless appeal of gold. Colored Gemstones: A long-time advocate for colored gemstone jewelry, Jenny O. notes a resurgence in their popularity. "Even diamond companies are

WHETHER YOU'RE DRAWN TO THE boldness OF GOLD, THE elegance OF EMERALD CUTS, OR THE versatility OF GENDER-NEUTRAL DESIGNS, THERE'S SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE IN THE CURRENT jewelry landscape.

adding color to their lines," she explains, reflecting a growing demand for colorful, expressive pieces.

Emerald Cut Diamond Eternity Bands: “There’s something to be said about the classics. When we talk about eternity bands, emerald cut diamonds are all the rage. Imagine large step cuts as a string of diamonds around the finger, and voilà, it’s a quiet sophistication,” says Jenny O. She draws a comparison to Elizabeth Taylor's iconic emerald-cut diamond, once dubbed "the ice-skating rink."

Tennis Necklaces: These dainty strings of diamonds remain on-trend. “The dainty string of diamonds around your neck can be worn every day with a t-shirt and jeans or the yogi ensemble,” Jenny O. advises. “The key to this necklace is keeping the consistency in the diamond’s diameter and wearing it with a choker-like fit so you can stack and layer gold chains with the tennis necklace to give you a subtle pop of sparkle.”

GENDER-NEUTRAL JEWELRY DESIGNS

The industry is also witnessing a shift towards some gender-neutral designs. "Jewelry is an expression of oneself, whether it leans more feminine or masculine," Jenny O. states. She highlights the crossover appeal of traditionally gendered pieces.

"A traditionally 'men’s' diamond bracelet, which is heavier and chunkier, might appeal to a woman seeking a bolder look. Conversely, larger face watches, once considered 'men's' watches, are increasingly popular with women," she explains. The same goes for tennis diamond necklaces, often seen on male celebrities and musicians. Huntington Jewelers offers a diverse assortment of on-trend jewels, tailored to individual proportions and preferences.

SUSTAINABILITY AND ETHICAL SOURCING

Sustainability and ethical sourcing are critical “trends” that are here to stay in the fine jewelry industry. The Natural Diamond Council and the Responsible Jewellery Council play pivotal roles in

promoting responsible practices. These organizations ensure that diamonds and other gemstones are sourced ethically, with a focus on leaving a positive legacy for future generations.

Huntington Jewelers is deeply involved in these efforts. "We partner with miners globally to ensure we make a difference and uphold ethical standards," Jenny O. asserts. This commitment to sustainability is evident in their operations and product offerings, reassuring customers of their responsible sourcing practices.

For those looking to stay ahead of the curve, these insights provide a comprehensive guide to this year's finest jewelry styles.

AUTUMN Hair Trends

The season's must-have styles revealed

Warm and Natural Color Palettes

Warmer and more natural shades are in; gone are the days of everyone wanting icy cool tones. While cool blondes and balayage brunettes will still be around, Crystal thinks there will be fewer ashy color requests. Highlights and dimensional color are becoming a bit more intentional yet keeping with the soft and gentle grow-outlook. They are also getting warmer and brighter, using bolder contrast and placement, to really highlight, contour, and shine.

Fall is approaching, which means new hairstyle trends. Crystal Leisner, owner and stylist at Meraki Hair & Body, who has been in the industry for 22 years, gives us her insight on what trends she thinks will be around for the fall 2024 season.

The Birkin Bang: A Fresh Take on Fringe Bangs are staying! The Birkin Bang looks to be a big contender, it is a shorter version of the curtain bang - accompanied by a short-textured middle. It’s a style that looks flattering wearing the hair up or down, depending on the occasion. The Birkin Bang is great for drawing the eye up and softening out the fringe. A bonus, it grows out well and gives some more volume and width.

Textured Cuts: Butterfly and Bob Variations

The butterfly cut, along with all the other “animal variations” of the shag, and bobs are in for the fall season. Many variations exist because everyone’s head shape, face shape, and hair texture are different, thus needing a different angle, shape, or length. This makes cuts like these personalized for everyone, all while adding texture and movement.

Whether you follow the latest style trends or opt for something classic, be sure to discuss what you like about a new style, and what you want to change about your current one, with your stylist. This opens the conversation to variations, helping you understand the options and pros and cons of the fresh look.

“Hair is a big part of your overall appearance and self-confidence, but remember, it’s just hair. It grows; color is adaptable, and, with the right stylist, there’s always another option to explore. Don’t be afraid of change.”

THE PSYCHOLOGY BEHIND STYLE

Decoding the elements of authentic self-expression

Everybody talks about style! So, what is style? Is it swag? Is it charisma? Is it how we carry ourselves? Maybe it is a perception, or a combination, thereof?

I believe style is an individual definition that is a complex concept, encompassing a myriad of aspects. Below I share my psychological interpretation of style, presenting a comprehensive framework for understanding and developing personal style, going beyond mere appearances to encompass self-concept, confidence, and empowerment.

S – SELF-CONCEPT & SELF-ESTEEM

T – TAKE CHARGE

Y – YES, YOU CAN DO IT

L – LEVERAGE YOURSELF AND POTENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES

E – EMPOWERMENT

Dr. Vicki D Coleman

S - Self-Concept is the perception that we have of ourselves; while self-esteem is the feeling, tone, or how we feel about ourselves (Super, et al, 1963). Style can reflect how we view ourselves and how confident we are in our own skin.

T - Take Charge. Style is related to self-management skills, taking charge, and being in control, accountable, and responsible for our thinking, decision making, and behavior.

Y - Yes, You Can Do It. Style is a mindset that facilitates a belief in ourselves and our abilities to identify and achieve our goals, resulting in total health and wellness.

L - Leverage Yourself and Potential Opportunities: Style can involve using our unique abilities, strengths, skills, and talents to be prepared to take advantage of opportunities that present themselves.

E - Empowerment: Ultimately, style can be a tool for empowerment, allowing us to fully express ourselves, and exhibiting appropriate behavior. With respect to empowerment, review my paradigm related to empowerment, The Coleman Empowerment Matrix (CEM, 2024), listed below.

COLEMAN EMPOWERMENT MATRIX (CEM)

E – ENERGY

Energy is physiological, psychological, emotional, mental, and spiritual, among others. And I believe that energy is a fundamental premise of our existence, as the universe continues to align and re-align itself.

M – MOVING FORWARD

What are your plans as you move forward in life?

What are your issues, concerns, problems, and challenges that must be addressed to be successful?

P – PURPOSE, VALUES, CORE BELIEFS

What is your purpose in life? Define values, or what are those things that are most important to you.

What are the core beliefs that make up who you are? What is your world view, including the implications and repercussions for the global economy?

O – OPPORTUNITY

What opportunities are you considering in the following areas: personal, physical, family, social/ community, academic/work/professional/financial, and moral/ethical/spiritual? (Fitts, 1964; Fitts & Warren, 1996).

W – WORK & LIFE BALANCE

As work consumes more of our lives, and with the challenges of delineating between the two, what are your plans to achieve a balance to seek total health and wellness?

E

– EFFORT

What effort(s) are you willing to commit and sacrifice while developing an empowerment system, seeking total health and wellness?

R

– RE-EVALUATE

Adhering to the Coleman Empowerment Matrix (CEM) requires a periodic reevaluation and reassessment of each of the elements. In the ever-changing times, and with recent technologies, including AI, consider the emerging themes, trends, and patterns that are developing in the 21st century global economy.

M – MANAGING SELF

Managing the self requires a critical examination, analysis, evaluation, and understanding of self-concept, self-esteem, and the acquisition of self-management skills. Consider the Coleman Model of Self-Concept and Self-Esteem (2008; 1992), based on the six areas of self-concept and self-esteem, modified by Coleman, listed below, for a more comprehensive examination of these two constructs (Fitts, 1964; Fitts & Warren, 1996).

“STYLE IS A MINDSET THAT FACILITATES A BELIEF IN OURSELVES AND OUR ABILITIES TO IDENTIFY AND ACHIEVE OUR GOALS… STYLE CAN INVOLVE USING OUR UNIQUE ABILITIES, STRENGTHS, SKILLS, AND TALENTS… STYLE CAN BE A TOOL FOR EMPOWERMENT.”

E – EXPECTATIONS AND GOALS

Identify realistic expectations and goals related to a lifestyle of total health and wellness.

N – NEGOTIATE

In life, there will always be conflict! And what is significant is the ability to identify and understand conflict, including the ability to negotiate and navigate conflict resolution and negotiation skills, culminating in appropriate behavior and defense/coping mechanisms.

T – TIME FRAME

Everything that we do involves time, with the same amount for all of us. What is your conceptualization of time; and how does time relate to establishing realistic goals for self and others?

In the evolving landscape of downtown Las Vegas, the Arts District, affectionately known as 18b, has become a dynamic canvas where art and culture flourish. This neighborhood has been cultivating its eclectic art scene for years with its rich tapestry of art, entertainment, and local charm, offering a refreshing escape from the neon allure of the Strip. Every downtown deserves an eclectic art scene, and Las Vegas has been meticulously building its own, creating a special place for artists, performers, and art enthusiasts alike.

The Las Vegas Arts District is a testament to the city's commitment to encouraging creativity and a sense of community. This area has transformed into a bustling hub of artistic expression, featuring a diverse mix of galleries, studios, shops, and eateries. Central to this cultural renaissance is First Friday, a monthly celebration that brings together artists, musicians, and food vendors, creating a lively atmosphere that bridges the gap between creators and the community. Since its inception in 2002, First Friday has played a pivotal role in showcasing emerging talent and fostering a sense of unity among locals and visitors.

IV Drip Bars Stylish Wellness Trend:

ONCE A CLINICAL TREATMENT, NOW A BEAUTY PRACTICE TOO

Widely loved in Las Vegas, IV drip therapy has evolved significantly from its origins as a clinical procedure, becoming a fashionable health and beauty practice embraced by wellness enthusiasts everywhere.

From offering a welcoming atmosphere, personal consultations, and preparations for infusion, you can soon be on your way to a ‘one-hour vacation’ with IV therapy, enjoying custom mixtures that meet most unique health and beauty needs.

"Whether it’s hydration during the summer, energy to get you through the workday, or muscle recovery because you love to work out - you name it.  It can help." - Lisa Bayardo

If you’d like bonuses such as glowing skin, hair, and nail benefits, extra biotin can be added to fusions. Special additives, like amino acids or extra B vitamins, cater to specific health goals such as enhanced athletic performance or faster recovery. IV therapy can cater to all needs, specific for each individual; even those rough hangover mornings.

Lisa Bayardo, the integrator and owner of Prime IV Hydration and Wellness in Summerlin and Centennial Hills, is dedicated to empowering individuals through holistic wellness and has witnessed growth in IV therapy over the years.

“A popular one at Prime IV Hydration is our Immunity Drip, which is packed with essential vitamins and minerals designed to boost the immune system. This cocktail includes high doses of vitamin C, zinc, glutathione, magnesium, and B vitamins,” said Lisa.

Though, throughout the years, the presentation and aesthetics of IV therapy have enhanced the overall appeal for clients. Comfort aesthetics are added to help produce a relaxing and calming atmosphere; creating a less-medical-office-vibe is key. This blend of functionality and beauty transforms environments into a high-end spa feel. Along with cleanliness and prep, using colorful IV bags, and custom ‘cocktails’ for each client's needs, such as glowing beauty goals or PMS relief. This has made IV therapy more than just medical--it’s also an engaging, ‘Instagram worthy’ treatment.

“Clients often find it fascinating to watch the fluids being infused, especially when they can visibly see how quickly their body absorbs them,” said Lisa. “This process can be particularly enlightening for those severely dehydrated, they can see the bag emptying into their bloodstream, providing immediate, visible relief.”

Clients can feel pampered and relaxed as they recline in massage chairs, accompanied by cozy blankets and eye masks to enhance the overall wellness experience.

“With the growing awareness and the holistic health movement, IV therapy’s popularity is set to soar even more.”

IV therapy caters to many for various health goals and preferences. Primary reasons for visits can include anti-aging benefits, increased energy levels, and addressing acute health concerns like immunity and illness recovery. Younger clients in their 20s to 30s often seek athletic performance and recovery drips, while older clients may focus on anti-aging and energy-boosting treatments.

People may have misconceptions about IV therapy, such as believing the needle stays in the arm the entire time when, in reality, a plastic catheter replaces it immediately. The concerns about overdosing on vitamins and negative side effects are unfounded, as treatments use therapeutic doses and are professionally monitored. Unlike oral vitamins that can cause nausea, IV therapy delivers nutrients directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the gastrointestinal tract and ensuring better absorption.

While often associated with illness, IV therapy is popular among healthy individuals, who are seeking efficient solutions for boosting hydration, energy levels, and more.

With the growing awareness and the holistic health movement, IV therapy’s popularity is set to soar even more as people seek immediate hydration, nutrient replenishment, and overall wellness outside of clinical settings, all while adding an aesthetically pleasing element to treatments.
