This season, we find ourselves surrounded by festive cheer that invites us to come together to celebrate life, family, friends, and the freedom to enjoy what truly matters. As another year draws to a close, it’s the perfect moment to savor these joyful times, reflect on life’s preciousness, and make space for happiness alongside those we hold dear.

Reflecting on the year, we each embraced a word that carried meaning for us. Camilla’s was Rise—a tribute to the subtle, steady moments throughout 2025 that called for trust, release, and new beginnings. Rising isn’t always graceful; it often feels messy and uncertain as we let go of what was familiar in order to become something more authentic. Each challenge and encounter contributed to her growth into a truer self.
Paige’s word, Spark, captures the lively energy that ignites joy, connection, and celebration. It’s the light in holiday eyes, the warmth of each shared smile, and the flicker of hope and gratitude that sustains us during this meaningful season. This spark reminds us how fleeting life truly is and emphasizes the importance of cherishing each radiant moment.
These two expressions connect naturally with this month’s ‘giving’ theme—giving is more than an act; it’s a way of living. When we give with open hearts, we elevate ourselves and those around us. This spirit of generosity shines brightest during the holidays, nurturing community and kindness alike.
We hope you embrace this season fully—celebrate your journey, honor your growth, and look ahead with hope. Life is brief, and the moments filled with light and love are treasures to be held close. May you find peace, joy, and meaning surrounded by loved ones and in the quiet magic these holidays bring.
With warmth and appreciation,

LOCAL EXPERTS SHARE THEIR TOP TIPS FOR STAYING ON TRACK THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
ARTICLE BY DEMI GUILLORY
As you check off your list this holiday season, don’t forget two of the greatest gifts you can give yourself: time and care. It is easy to neglect self-care in today’s fast-paced world, but the holidays especially challenge us to balance it all. Fortunately, local experts have realistic tips anyone can follow to simultaneously stay on track and enjoy the season.
Nathania Park is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and owner of

NoBe Wellness Medspa whose top advice is to focus on these crucial areas: sleep, nutrition, and movement. “Wellness matters during the holidays because this season uniquely combines heightened stress, disrupted routines, and increased health risks,” Nathania explained.
To minimize these negative effects, prioritize sleep, be mindful of what goes into your body, and stay active.
“Quality sleep is the foundation of good health,” said Nathania. “Create a calming bedtime routine, keep your bedroom cool and dark, and aim for seven to nine hours of sleep each night.” Though
this may sound simple, it makes a sizable difference in overall well-being.
Staying hydrated and fueling your body with nutritious foods is also key to maintaining wellness. “Proper hydration and nutrition,” Nathania added, “support energy levels, skin health, and overall body function.”
Nutritionist and owner of Synergetics Health and Wellness, Michelle Johnson, adds to those sentiments by reminding us about supplements as less sunlight in winter often means low vitamin D levels, incompatible with optimal health and avoiding seasonal illnesses.
“PROPER HYDRATION AND NUTRITION SUPPORT ENERGY LEVELS, SKIN HEALTH, AND BODY FUNCTION.”
“I often suggest immune support during the cooler months, including zinc with full-spectrum vitamin C with bioflavonoids,” she shared.
Looking after yourself also means no shortcuts to buy yourself time or save money. “Some shortcuts can do more harm than good,” warned Nathania. Unregulated beauty products are risky because they are not tested and held to the same safety standards as those in professional settings. “Using untested or counterfeit products can lead to allergic reactions, skin irritation, or even longterm damage.”

Unless you have the necessary precision or training, common beauty procedures are best left for the professionals. “Procedures like chemical peels, hair removal, or microneedling require skill and knowledge. Attempting these at home without proper training can result in burns, infections, or injury.”
Even with safe at-home routines, it’s important to keep perspective on overall wellness and know when professional guidance is necessary.
“Bottom line,” says Nathania, “while some at-home beauty routines are safe, it’s important to avoid shortcuts that

compromise your health. When in doubt, stick to simple, gentle care, or consult a licensed professional for guidance.”
Of course, caring for yourself goes beyond skincare, sleep, and supplements. Staying active is another key part of feeling your best, and it doesn’t have to mean spending hours in the gym. Matt Silva is a personal trainer and the owner of The Exercise Coach studio in Summerlin North, which specializes in short, high-intensity workouts aimed at building strength, boosting metabolism, and increasing bone density.
“Our belief is that effort, not time, is the key driver of fitness results,” Matt said. “Our philosophy favors strength-training and high-intensity interval training (HIIT), which can be done in short, 20-minute blocks and yield significant results,” which can be helpful during this busy season.
His best advice for carving time out to stay active? Exercise early. Earlier sessions “ensure the workout gets done before holiday events and chaos take over.”
Consistency is critical, especially at a time when fitness is often an afterthought. “We teach that it is significantly less challenging and less time-consuming to maintain your current strength and metabolism than it is to rebuild them after weeks of inactivity and overindulgence,” added Matt.
Above all, remember to breathe! You’ve got this.

During winter, drinkers turn more toward brown spirits – let’s turn to Nevada’s Frey Ranch
Did you know that as the weather cools, many people trade icy vodka and gin cocktails for “warming” spirits such as whiskey—including single malt scotch, blended whiskey, bourbon, and rye? Of course, you will still enjoy these whiskeys on the rock, rocks or in a cocktail – adding cold to them, but only slightly diminishing warm notes like spice, vanilla, dried fruits, caramel, and heat.
Nevada-based distillery Frey Ranch makes a FourGrain Straight Bourbon that is their most popular expression in Las Vegas, and you can find Frey Ranch at Khoury’s, Total Wine, Lee’s Liquor and more. And when you visit these liquor stores look for the stores’ personal barrel picks that say the store’s name right on the label, those bottles don’t last long on the shelves. Frey Ranch distillery crafts award-winning whiskeys from high-quality grains 100 percent grown on their farm and distillery in Northern Nevada, just east
• 1 ¼ oz. of Frey Ranch Bourbon
• Fresh lime wedges squeezed
• 8 fresh blackberries
• Large mint leaves
• ½ oz. simple syrup
• 1 oz. club soda
of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It is one of only a few true “estate distilleries” in the U.S. The Frey family also has a long legacy of farming in this region that dates back to 1854.
Colby Frey, Frey Ranch CEO, co-founder, and Whiskey Farmer, started the distillery in 2006 with his wife, co-founder and Chief Storyteller Ashley. Colby truly does it all as he grows, malts, distills, and ages 100 percent of his whiskey grains on the more than 2,500acre Frey Ranch farm. Experimenting with the corn, wheat, barley, and rye that Colby cultivates has become a hallmark of the brand.
Now, as you start to crave those brown spirits, naturally due to the change in season or because I’ve put this thought in your head, let’s move onto what cocktails you might like to try before you settle in by your fireplace at home. For these recipes I reached back out to Frey Ranch.
Muddle lime, blackberries, and mint together. Stir in Frey Ranch Bourbon and simple syrup. Top with club soda, garnish with mint leaves, blackberries, and serve over crushed ice.
“As the weather cools, many opt for warming spirits.”

• 8 oz. Frey Ranch Straight Bourbon Whiskey
• ½ cup maple syrup
• 2 cups fresh cranberries
• Zest 1 large orange
• 4 oz. or ½ cup fresh lemon juice
• 1 cup 100% cranberry juice
• 3-4 dashes orange bitters
• 1 blood orange or regular orange, sliced
• Candied rosemary
To make the cranberry syrup: In a medium pot, bring 1/2 cup water, the maple syrup, and cranberries to a boil over high heat. Boil 5 minutes or until the cranberries begin to burst, then remove from the heat. Stir in the orange zest. If your syrup thickens too quickly, just add additional water to thin. Let it cool. If desired, strain out the cranberries.
In a punch bowl, combine the cranberry syrup, bourbon, lemon juice, cranberry juice, and orange bitters. Stir to combine, chill until ready to serve. Serve over ice. Garnish with an orange slice and candied rosemary, if desired.

Every December, I notice how quickly everything speeds up. The lists get longer, the days get shorter, and the pressure to make everything perfect somehow sneaks in. Somewhere between the shopping, the decorating, and the rushing, we start to lose sight of what this season is really about. It’s easy to get caught up in the search for the right gift— something thoughtful, something special, something that says I care. But I’ve realized that the most meaningful gift

“The most meaningful gift we can give is our presence.”

we can ever give doesn’t come with a receipt. It’s not something we can hold in our hands — it’s the way we show up. It’s our presence.
Presence is more than just being physically there. It’s when you set your phone aside, soften your thoughts, and actually see the person in front of you. It’s when you stop planning what to say next and simply listen. It’s when your mind quiets long enough for your heart to lead.
This kind of presence can’t be faked—people feel it. They feel when you’re genuinely with them. And those are the moments that stay. The moments when you laugh until your stomach hurts, or when someone says something that shifts the way you see the world, or when silence feels comfortable because your energy is speaking louder than words.
Over the years, I’ve started giving differently. Instead of rushing to buy more things, I focus on creating experiences that hold meaning. I’ll plan a dinner where everyone leaves their phones at the door. I’ll take a trip somewhere to reconnect.
I’ll spend time with someone who needs to be reminded they matter. These moments become memories—and memories last longer than anything money can buy.
A friend recently told me, “I stopped giving gifts because my time is what people remember most.” That stayed with me. Because time is something we never get back, and when we choose to share it, we’re saying, You’re important to me. I want to be here.
So maybe this year, we shift our focus. Maybe instead of asking, What should I buy? we ask, How can I show up? Maybe we give fewer things and more moments. Fewer words and more listening. Fewer plans and more peace.
Because one day, when the wrapping paper is gone and the gifts have faded into memory, what will remain is how we made people feel. And that’s the kind of giving that never loses its meaning.
This season, give the gift that can’t be wrapped—your time, your love, your presence. The one thing the world needs most, and the one thing only you can give.

“For many of our residents, this is their home and their family,” explained Dana Andreski, Director of Field Operations at Red Rock Pointe Retirement Community. “Not everyone has the opportunity to travel or spend time with extended family, so we make the holidays here feel just as special, filling the season with connection, celebration, and a true sense of belonging.” Red Rock Pointe continues to shine as a recognized leader in senior living by engaging residents’ interests with activities that “broaden their minds, fitness programs that help them thrive, and moments of joy that feed their spirit.”
This is especially important around the holiday season when loneliness and

Whether it is Christmas or any other religious holiday observed during the festive period, the celebration is all about cultivating connection and building community.
“Intergenerational visits—like the Kinsella Angels’ high school seniors spending time playing games with our residents or Las Vegas Troop 7737 filling the halls with Christmas carols, bring such warmth and joy to our community,” Dana shared. “Our seasonally themed happy hours, leading up to our festive holiday banquets, leave residents happily exhausted and completely uplifted by the celebration.”

Highly anticipated events also include those outside Red Rock Pointe. “Special outings to view iconic holiday decorations and lights, such as the Bellagio Conservatory or Ethel M’s Chocolate Factory, are places that our residents look forward to during the holiday season.”
Reminiscing on holidays past and sharing beloved traditions with one another is how residents and staff further connect and stay engaged in their community, inside and outside the walls of Red Rock Pointe, which is a drop-off location for Toys for Tots. “Having this,” explained Dana, “also gives the residents a sense of purpose.”
Lights may noticeably shine brighter, and halls may be livelier with seasonal adornments during the holidays, but Red Rock Pointe Retirement Community embodies the spirit of humanity year-round.
“The value we uphold in listening to our residents’ needs and wants is a testament in creating the most inviting independent senior living atmosphere,” Dana shared. “The fact that Red Rock Pointe Retirement Community is a special place is a reflection on the unique individuals who choose to reside here, given their individuality and the variety of interest they bring to this community.”

BOCA PARK ANIMAL HOSPITAL PROVIDES PEACE OF MIND FOR TRAVELING FAMILIES AND SUPPORTS SHELTER ANIMALS THROUGH HEARTFELT HOLIDAY GIVING
As the holidays draw near, many families are preparing for travel, gatherings, and celebrations—but for pet parents, one important question often arises: who will care for their furry family members while they’re away? At Boca Park Animal Hospital, the answer comes with warmth, expertise, and peace of mind.
Boca Park Animal Hospital is more than a veterinary clinic—it’s a full-service destination offering concierge-style pet care, complete with wellness visits, advanced medical services, grooming, and luxury boarding designed for total comfort.
Hospital Administrator Sara Smith, LVT, CVPM, SHRM-CP, knows this season brings both excitement and stress for pet owners. “The holiday season is one of the busiest times of year for boarding, so we always recommend booking as early as possible—our suites fill up quickly,” she explains.
“Transparency and comfort are essential to reducing stress for pets boarding with us, providing owners true peace of mind during holidays.”
At Boca Park Animal Hospital, boarding is designed around both well-being and clinical assurance. Their facility offers spacious suites ranging from junior accommodations to large executive rooms—many equipped with TVs and cameras for 24/7 owner checkins. This transparency helps ease separation anxiety. “Transparency and comfort are key to reducing stress for pets and providing owners with peace of mind,” says Sara.
Beyond the suite amenities, the hospital’s team focuses on emotional and physical well-being. Pets can enjoy daycare playtime or one-on-one attention from staff—activities that maintain familiarity and joy even while families are away. “Our goal is to make each pet’s stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible,” Sara adds. “The familiar scents of their own blankets or toys from home can also help them settle comfortably.”
Medical Director Dr. Morgan Spaulding, DVM, notes that the unique combination of veterinary oversight and attentive care sets them apart. “Because our veterinary team is on-site daily, any medical needs, whether a minor ear infection or an unexpected emergency, can be handled right away,” says Dr. Spaulding. “Pet parents appreciate knowing that while they’re traveling, their pets are cared for by a team that knows them personally and provides both love and medical expertise.”
Dr. Spaulding also emphasizes pet owners should check their animals’ health before travel or boarding. “We encourage pet parents to watch for signs of anxiety or illness before traveling, such as decreased appetite or coughing,” she explains. “That way we can address any concerns early and ensure their pets are healthy and ready for their stay.”

While December is one of Boca Park Animal Hospital’s busiest months for boarding, it’s also a time the staff dedicates to community giving. This year, the team is donating to The Animal Foundation through a special toy, treat, and linen drive.
“Our partnership with The Animal Foundation has always been close to our hearts,” Sara shares. “We regularly provide complimentary first exams for newly adopted pets, and this holiday season we wanted to go a step further.”
The idea, she explains, came from the shared desire among staff to brighten the season for shelter animals still waiting for their forever homes. “It’s a simple act of kindness, but it can make a big difference,” says Sara. “Something as small as a warm blanket or a new toy can bring comfort and joy to a shelter pet.”
Community members who wish to contribute can do so throughout December by dropping off donations at Boca Park Animal Hospital which delivers directly to The Animal Foundation.
Beyond the holidays, Boca Park Animal Hospital continues to serve local pet families year-round. Their services include wellness and preventative care, dentistry, surgery, advanced orthopedics, and diagnostic imaging. The team of licensed veterinarians and technicians provide personalized care for every patient—from playful puppies to senior companions requiring specialized attention.
Their state-of-the-art boarding facility and grooming salon make it easy for pet parents to manage all aspects of their pets’ health and comfort in one place. The hospital is open seven days a week and features a modern, fire-sprinkler-equipped facility ensuring safety and peace of mind.
“A simple act of kindness can make a big difference this holiday season.”

As Las Vegas families finalize their holiday travel and gift lists, Boca Park Animal Hospital stands ready to care for their beloved pets with professionalism, empathy, and festive spirit. Whether administering advanced medical care, trimming holiday-ready coats at the grooming salon, or keeping tails wagging in the luxury suites, the team’s mission remains constant: ensuring pets feel safe, happy, and loved.
“We hope to be your family’s lifelong veterinary partner,” Sara says with a smile. “We believe in building trust through compassion, expertise, and transparency—because your pets deserve nothing less.”

As the infrastructure ages in mature areas of the valley, the Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD) is working to replace miles of older water service laterals that are reaching the end of their service life.
LVVWD crews are replacing the older polyethylene laterals that connect water meters to water mains with new copper pipes that can last up to 80 years, more than doubling the lifespan of the water infrastructure in neighborhoods.
To reduce water service disruptions and construction impacts, LVVWD replaces the old laterals in a fast, efficient process that requires less excavation and service down time .
The streamlined process includes excavating a small area in the street to disconnect the old lateral. A steel cable equipped with a cutting blade is threaded through the lateral. As the cable is pulled through, the old lateral splits apart and the new copper line is threaded into place before being reconnected to the meter and the water main.

To further limit impacts during the upgrades, LVVWD works with the City of Las Vegas and Clark County during the planning process to identify roads that are scheduled for repaving.
“We jumped in on those plans so that we could upgrade the water system at the same time,” said LVVWD Distribution Manager Mario Fernandez. “That way, we avoid tearing up the road twice , which saves everyone time and money .”
While the service lateral replacements reduce water system leaks, homeowners may still find leaks in their home plumbing system. LVVWD offers several programs to help customers find and repair leaks, including a reimbursement program that helps pay for costly repairs.
