LIFESTYLE LETTER
Health & Wellness in 2024 For many of us, this time of year is full of excitement. It presents us with a reset, new horizons, and goals to pursue. But for others, January can be a reminder of failed attempts from years past and the burden of expectation that this year will be different. We approached this issue of Red Rock City Lifestyle from a mindset of not supplying quick fixes to check boxes in the short term but valuing what is sustainable over the long haul. We wanted to provide inspiration for making lasting, realistic, long-term improvements to your physical, emotional, and mental health. When it comes to anything in life - business, finance, food, home, and personal health — it’s not what you do some days that move the needle — it’s what you do MOST days. For better or worse! For instance, taking a vacation every day would be financially and practically unfeasible, but taking a trip a few times a year is doable. Having a beautiful steak dinner with a few cocktails and crème brulée every night for dinner isn’t best for your health, but doing so once in a while is necessary! It’s not the “sometimes choices” we make; it’s the “most of the time” choices that make a difference in our overall health. So, plan the vacation AND work to establish more regular rest in your work week. Join a fitness community or gym AND enjoy that dessert you’ve been wanting to try at different spots that you haven’t been to yet. It’s not what you do some days — it’s what you do most days that will lead to a more peaceful, filling, and fabulous year. Here’s to you having a more balanced lifestyle in 2024 and beyond! From my heart to yours,

Art Against TRAFFICKING EMPOWERING SURVIVORS DURING HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS MONTH

n the fight against human trafficking, The Salvation Army Southern Nevada unveils a powerful initiative during January’s Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Nicole Wessendorf, the organization’s Public Relations & Community Engagement Manager, shares the profound impact of their anti-trafficking program, SEEDS of Hope. The focus is on raising awareness and funds through unique products crafted by Survivors. Wessendorf explains the inspiration behind their innovative approach. Survivors in the program express their hopes and aspirations through painted flowers, symbolizing their journey toward a brighter future. The transformative process involves mental and physical health care, educational and career
planning, housing support, and therapeutic interventions. One Survivor, Miriam, reflects on her experience, stating, “With all the help I get, I can actually say I am happy and loving life. I feel like I’m finally living, and it’s not so dark anymore.” Miriam’s sentiments echo the resilience and optimism cultivated within the SEEDS of Hope program. The Salvation Army has collaborated with The Tote Project and Hope Co. Global to bring these stories to life. The Tote Project transforms Survivors’ floral artworks into an ethically made “Hope” design available on pouches and totes. Crafted by Survivors of exploitation, these products feature upcycled sari fabric linings and tassels, showcasing the unique patterns and colors of each Survivor’s journey. Hope Co. Global showcases the art on plantable greeting and note cards,
offering a visually striking and environmentally conscious way to share the survivors’ stories. Wessendorf emphasizes the charitable aspect of these products, stating, “A portion of the sales from each product mentioned will be donated back to the program. It’s beautiful that the art created by our current survivors will be able to assist future survivors.” The products are available at The Tote Project website (www.thetoteproject. com) for the tote and pouches and Hope Co. Global website (www.hopecoglobal. com) for the greeting and note cards. In addressing the severity of human trafficking in Nevada, Wessendorf underscores the alarming statistics. Nevada ranks second in the country for human trafficking, with a rate of approximately 6 cases per 100,000 residents. The state’s CONTINUED > JANUARY 2 0 2 4 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . vulnerability is heightened by having the highest rate of unsheltered youth nationwide. Wessendorf highlights the urgency, stating, “Nevada is especially vulnerable to higher rates of human trafficking due to having the highest rate of unsheltered youth in the nation.” The community is urged to report suspicions or seek help through the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or by texting 233733. The Salvation Army welcomes volunteers and donations, providing opportunities to support Survivors on their path to recovery. As January unfolds, The Salvation Army Southern Nevada stands resilient, planting SEEDS of Hope to transform lives and eradicate human trafficking. The community is invited to join this positive growth by supporting Survivors through the purchase of these empowering products or by volunteering time and resources. Together, we can nurture a future where every individual’s potential can bloom.

For many of us, the start of the new year is also an opportunity to check in on where we are in life. This includes reflecting on our health, both physically and mentally. Prioritizing health

and wellness, like many New Year's resolutions, can be easier said than done. “Here at our studio, we focus on taking little steps that can lead to big changes down the road,” said Molly Nestor, the Co-Owner of The Exercise Coach Summerlin North. This fitness studio, located in the Rampart Plaza at Del Webb and Rampart, has a mission of helping people rebuild muscles and change the way they age. With the help of specialized strength training machines and experienced coaches, the goal is to help individuals revamp their entire body by regaining muscle mass. “Strength training really affects everything,” said Nestor. “Especially after you turn 40, this is something we need to focus on, and we help you do that here in a way that is most effective and time efficient.” Nestor, who co-owns this fitness franchise with her husband Brent, said that she has always been interested in health and wellness but didn’t find the right solution for her until she
“We have one man who comes in here who is 85. He said he started coming to us because he is going to be walking across Nepal next year,” said Nestor. “That is just so inspiring and proof that it’s never too late to start taking care of yourself and to get stronger as you age." Another local business that is seeing more people taking a more proactive stance on their health is The DRIPBaR. Nathan Atkins is the Managing Partner. “I think Covid played a part in this changing attitude,” said Atkins. “When we were all at home, it really made a lot of people think about how to take better care of ourselves.” The DRIPBaR, which is located inside the Cameron Shopping Center on West Flamingo, offers a variety of IV Vitamin therapies designed to boost overall wellness by providing essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream for maximum absorption. Within 2 or 3 months, our clients noticed a significant change in their energy and overall well-being." When it comes to making a personal investment in feeling good, folks at the Best Years say they are also seeing more clients following this trend. “We are definitely seeing more and more people being comfortable and interested in our products,” said Mark Kalbfleish, Co-Founder of The Best Years. “STRENGTH TRAINING REALLY AFFECTS EVERYTHING” - NESTOR “Our CBD and related products are tremendously beneficial in helping mitigate pain and inflammation issues, with minimum known side effects," said Kalbfleish. "Of course, we always tell all of our clients to check with their professional health providers before using our products. But we love that over the years, we can give that gift of relief and the lessening of pain. I use these CBD products on myself after my shoulder surgery, and it has made a world of difference. If we can help provide ways to help people get some relief from pain and illnesses with our products, we are all for it." Owner & Managing Partner of Neuropathy and Pain Centers of Las Vegas
Summerlin Resident, Dr. Robert Odell, is the Owner and Managing Partner of Neuropathy and Pain Centers of Las Vegas. On a daily basis, he gives hope to those battling chronic pain. With his team, he improves patients' lives by addressing various types of pain, including back, neck, foot, and joint pain, as well as conditions like headaches, migraines, and neuropathy. They employ a blend of traditional conservative methods along with innovative techniques and technologies with the aim of reducing reliance on powerful prescription drugs, often helping patients avoid surgical interventions. With a passion for healing and a commitment to innovative pain management, Dr. Odell has become a trusted figure in the medical community, transforming the lives of countless individuals seeking relief from their suffering. We asked Dr. Odell to share some insights into his nearly 3 decades of serving the Las Vegas community.
HOW DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR PASSION FOR TREATING NEUROPATHY AND PAIN CONDITIONS?
I had the good fortune to work with the manufacturer of an advanced electromedical device. We discovered that this device had the capability of facilitating the healing of the nerves within the body.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO SPECIALIZE IN THIS FIELD? 36
LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | HEALT H + WE LLN E SS
“My philosophy has always been to try to heal, not just paper over symptoms with medication.” I have always wanted to be a physician to help people. I was inspired to go into the subspecialty of interventional pain medicine so I could help my patients directly. Pain is the number one reason why people seek medical care, and in this specialized field, we are getting better and better every day in managing complex pain issues with the existing and new technology.
WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL INSIGHT IN THIS FIELD OF MEDICINE?
My philosophy has always been to try to heal, not just paper over symptoms with medication. Too much of medicine today is ruled by Big Pharma; we need to take the time to try to heal our patients.
HOW HAS THE VEGAS COMMUNITY INFLUENCED YOUR APPROACH TO PATIENT CARE?
Las Vegas has a tremendous sense of community. The medical community is still small enough that word of providing excellent care travels fast. It is geographically small enough that almost anyone can reach our clinic within a half hour.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
I am most proud of my contributions to the field of effective treatment of neuropathic pain. I also take considerable pride in offering sophisticated interventional procedures, all with the goal of decreasing medication usage. JANUARY 2 0 2 4 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C O M / R E D R O C K

Optimal Wellness Tips from Kelley Nemiro THE IMPORTANCE OF NUTRITION, MOVEMENT, MINDFULNESS, AND LISTENING TO YOUR BODY
Kelley Nemiro, a local certified holistic health coach and the owner of Wellness by Kelley, has traversed a remarkable journey to create a healthier lifestyle, both for herself and for others. Her personal struggles with health issues led her to discover the transformative power of nutrition, intuitive eating, and mindful movement.
Kelley Nemiro Initially facing challenges due to thyroid issues causing hormonal imbalances, Kelley's approach shifted from high-intensity workouts and a diet heavy in meat and dairy to embracing a more plant-focused, low-stress lifestyle. This transformation not only revitalized her physically but also elevated her mental and emotional well-being. "Within just a few weeks of making these changes, I felt an incredible difference," Kelley reflects. “My uncomfortable daily bloating became a thing of the past. My digestion was the best it had ever been from simply fueling my body with fiber-rich foods. The extra weight I was carrying seemed to fall off, plus my energy levels had increased, and my skin was glowing. I felt like a different person with newfound confidence, and I began to feel excited about life again. To top things off, I was pleasantly surprised when my lab values on my hormones had improved – all this from eating whole foods, slowing down, and listening to my body and intuition.” Kelley's wellness journey has been shaped by her belief in an intuitive method that encourages listening to your body, tapping into your intuition, and embracing lifestyle changes that work harmoniously with your unique physiology. Her philosophy emphasizes understanding one's body cues and striving for a balanced, nourishing lifestyle rather than adopting strict diets or intense workout regimens. “I really tuned in to my intuition while stepping into the health and wellness space,” said Kelley. “I became a

certified health coach at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition so I could help other women improve their health and feel their very best, too.” Drawing from her experiences, Kelley founded Wellness by Kelley, a digital platform providing comprehensive guidance, workouts, recipes, meditations, and e-courses tailored to help women achieve optimal health. The focus is on holistic approaches that consider nutrition, movement, and mindfulness as interwoven elements essential for overall well-being. The membership-based company also offers a 17-week e-course and lab reviews to help people get to the root cause of why they’re feeling less than their best in their bodies. And the business provides curated health plans tailored to each client’s individual needs, including diet plans, meditation practices, and customized experience programs. Also central to Kelley's approach are her insights into hormonal health. She acknowledges the impact of toxic stress, insulin resistance, and endocrine disruptors on hormonal balance, and it can affect various bodily functions, from reproduction to mood regulation and overall well-being. Her strategies to enhance hormone health encompass dietary balance, regular exercise, stress reduction techniques, and, when needed, seeking medical guidance for hormone replacement therapies. Kelley stresses the importance of movement but advocates for a mindful, stress-less balanced exercise routine rather than overexertion. She speaks from her own experience, having grappled with over-exercising and its implications on hormonal health. Kelley, a certified health and wellness trainer and Pilates instructor, says, “Exercise is a huge stress reliever when done properly and in the right amounts. And if you actually enjoy the movement you’re doing, it can be nurturing for your body, mind, and mood. Get at least 30 minutes of some form of gentle to moderate movement every day. For example, walking, yoga, or playing with your kids coupled with about an hour of a more

rigorous workout, three to four times a week, preferably including a combination of cardio, weights, and stretching is ideal.” One of Kelley's key principles is "gentle nutrition" and intuitive eating, which involves healing one's relationship with food and focusing on how different foods make the body feel. She advocates for embracing a variety of nutrient-rich foods, preparing meals at home, and ensuring steady blood sugar levels to support overall health and hormone balance. Addressing metabolic health, Kelley highlights its significance beyond weight management, emphasizing its role in preventing chronic diseases. She encourages a holistic approach to step into one's healthiest version, including a balanced diet with balanced blood sugar, regular physical activity, stress management, adequate sleep, prioritizing self-awareness, making lifestyle adjustments to optimize energy levels, and minimizing unhealthy habits like smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Kelley Nemiro's journey from health struggles to empowerment epitomizes the transformative potential of holistic lifestyle changes. Through Wellness by Kelley, she continues to empower individuals to reclaim their health, nurture their bodies, and achieve balance in their lives. Kelley's teachings resonate beyond mere fitness routines or diet plans; they advocate for a profound mindset shift towards understanding and nurturing one's body and overall well-being. Her holistic approach serves as a guiding light, illuminating the path toward a vibrant, healthy lifestyle rooted in self-awareness, balance, and nourishment.

UNLOCK YOUR STEM CELLS’ POWER TO HEAL AND RELIEVE PAIN ARTICLE BY STACEY ESCALANTE | PHOTOGRAPHY BY DIRK MYERS

EXP E RT H E LP | SP O RTS + RE CRE AT ION
Rheumatoid arthritis (also known as RA) wreaked havoc on Joseph Garcia's body for 20 years. The chronic inflammatory disorder affects many joints, including those in the hands and feet. The body’s immune system attacks its own tissue, including joints, and in severe cases, it attacks internal organs. The treatment to keep RA at bay isn't much better. Garcia's medications compromised his immune system, making him susceptible to other illnesses and infections, which could eventually result in death. Garcia explains what he was feeling and how he couldn’t take it any longer. “I got scared,” said Garcia, “and I told my wife I know I will be in pain if I stop taking my medication, but is it worth it? It’s going to kill me one way or another.” In 2018, he quit taking the prescribed medication, opted for prednisone and ibuprofen, and started looking for alternative therapies. In the meantime, he admits not being on his medication took its toll. "I was cranky and in so much pain, I couldn't even walk my dog,” said Garcia. Garcia, an accountant by day, heard about stem cell therapy from a client and started researching the treatment for his rheumatoid arthritis. Garcia did his due diligence and eventually met with Blake Youmans, CEO of Dynamic Stem Cell Therapy. After meeting with Youmans, Garcia knew this was the treatment for him. Youmans explains, “Mr. Garcia was suffering from an autoimmune disease that demanded a ‘boost’ of healthy cells from the patient’s own body. We less than minimally manipulate the cells and then give them back to patients like Mr. Garcia (same day, same procedure) to help get to the root cause of inflammation and disease and then to mitigate and potentially re-regulate the body’s ability to function optimally again. The cells are like little surgeons. They recruit other cells with specialized functions to fix X, Y, and Z.”

"Stem cell therapy totally changed my life. It is fantastic and beautiful, something I want to share with everybody," says Garcia. That is music to Youmans' ears. He built the Dynamic Stem Cell Therapy clinic in honor of his mother, Simong Youmans, M.D., who passed away in 2016 from cancer. Dr. Youmans was all about preventative medicine versus reactive medicine. "She was the visionary who started everything. On her deathbed, she said this was the best way to help the greatest number of people and why she was put on this earth," said Blake Youmans. Youmans points out that stem cell therapy isn’t just for patients with chronic illness or disease. “Sometimes professional athletes or everyday people who like to hike or play pickleball or golf, which are not candidates for autologous stem cell treatments, can get healthy young cells from human umbilical cord tissue (non-embryonic). Wharton’s jelly, which provides a rich source of live Mesenchymal stem cells (AKA: medicinal signaling cells), works amazingly fast and lasts a long time providing strength, stability, and potential freedom from pain so patients can play sports with a renewed quality of life,” says Youmans. Youmans applauds his medical team, including Medical Director Dale Carrison, D.O.. Dr. Carrison has a wealth of knowledge and experience as an emergency physician and as the Medical Director of several Southern Nevada agencies, including the Clark County Fire

Department and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. “Having the expertise and experience of a mentor to many, including myself, Dr. Dale Carrison will forever live on as a legend,” says Youmans. “He aligns with the company’s vision, shows empathy, and employs the same ethics. It’s all about the Hippocratic Oath-Do No Harm. We truly treat others how we like to be treated.” Youmans admits stem cell therapy is not for everyone and is not the answer for every condition or disease. If you are considering it and are in the same boat as Joseph Garcia (for rheumatoid arthritis), it is important to consult an arthritis pain specialist. Youmans also suggests, “To determine if stem cell therapy could be an alternative treatment solution, you can get a free, no obligation, informative and educational consultation at Dynamic Stem Cell Therapy and decide what is best for you, as you know your body best and ultimately decide what to do with it.” With its ability to improve joint function, reduce pain and inflammation, and offer hope, it certainly was the best bet for Joseph Garcia. He said enthusiastically, "I'm back to walking my dogs, and I walk at least 4.5 miles every day. It was the best money I ever spent because I could enjoy life again." *The information provided here is for informational purposes. HOW GIRLS ON THE RUN IS UNLOCKING POWER AND POTENTIAL
ARTICLE BY TAYLOR SHEA WEST | PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF GIRLS ON THE RUN
In a world where girls often confront longstanding gender stereotypes and societal obstacles, Girls on the Run offers a transformative journey through its dedication to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

Created in 1996, the organization has touched over 2 million lives by inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. But the nonprofit goes beyond running; it instills confidence, kindness, and essential life skills in girls. That is just what attracted Kate McLaughlin to the organization, and now she is the Executive Director in Las Vegas. “As a recreational runner, I loved how running made me feel like I could handle anything life threw at me and when a friend mentioned Girls on the Run and what it does, I was completely enthralled,” said McLaughlin. “I volunteered and was hooked.” McLaughlin continued, “We offer a safe space where girls and gender-expansive youth recognize how amazing they are and learn the tools they need to accomplish big goals. More than academic or mechanical skills that they learn in the classroom, the girls learn to embrace who they are, how to be supportive friends by recognizing emotions as normal, how to stop and think, kick to the curb that negative voice in their head that tells them ‘you aren’t enough,’ and how to persist through good days and bad ones to get closer to your goal.” McLaughlin encourages locals to get involved, as there are many roles that can truly make a difference. “Girls need to know that their family, friends, and community have their back. That we want them to be their best selves, to grow up to be healthy, confident, joyful, and strong, and to be the change they want to
“The look on the faces of the girls crossing the finish line is absolutely magical.” see in the world,” said McLaughlin. “As they enter adolescence, they face so much pressure to fit in, to be what they think everyone wants them to be. We, as a community, need to help them know that what we want is for them to simply be themselves and to be great at it!” CONTINUED >

Girls on the Run has two seasons of their after-school program, Spring and Fall. “In addition, we’re launching Camp Girls on the Run, a week-long day camp for girls in 3rd to 5th grade the first two weeks of June 2024,” said McLaughlin. “The camp will offer our curriculum and feature robotics training and finance.” Every day, McLaughlin gets to be a part of inspiring kids, and in return, she is inspired to be her best self. “I know that sounds cheesy, and I’m not always very good at it, but doing what I do is a daily reminder that I am capable of so much and that I should keep on going, even when

I’m doing something difficult or unfamiliar, or there is just too much,” said McLaughlin. “I love talking with the girls at practice and seeing them in their tutus, face paint, and unicorn headbands at the 5K. I love getting goofy with them and knowing that when I’m my authentic self with them, they are more comfortable being their authentic selves, too.” There are multiple avenues for supporting Girls on the Run: sponsor a participant for a season, become a coach, be a sparkle runner, join Team Adelaide, and more; girlsontherunlv.org has everything you need to start your own journey today.

NURTURING LEGAL WELLNESS
INSIGHTS FROM JONES & LOBELLO ON PROACTIVELY NAVIGATING LEGAL HEALTH IN 2024
MICHELE LOBELLO, FOUNDING PARTNER JONES & LOBELLO
Beyond the resolutions for physical fitness and mental well-being, the new year offers an opportunity to reflect on an often-overlooked aspect of holistic health – legal wellness. How equipped are you to face future legal challenges, especially those involving your family? In this Q&A article, Michele LoBello, Founding Partner, and Delwyn Webber, Estate Planning Chair at Jones & LoBello, a trusted family law and estate planning firm, share valuable insights. Discover uplifting advice and proactive strategies to approach the coming year with a positive mindset, ensuring your legal health aligns seamlessly with your personal well-being goals. Q: HOW CAN INDIVIDUALS PROACTIVELY APPROACH LEGAL HEALTH IN THE NEW YEAR, AND WHAT STEPS CAN THEY TAKE TO ENSURE A FRESH START IN TERMS OF THEIR PERSONAL AND FAMILY LEGAL MATTERS?

A: The new year is a chance to evaluate your personal and family goals, which should include your financial and estate planning. Consider updating your personal financial statement, taking care to determine whether you have maximized retirement planning and saving in the previous year. Verify your assets and life are adequately insured and evaluate your beneficiary designations. Evaluate your budget, taking care to ensure
you are making appropriate allocations to savings. If you don’t regularly monitor your personal and family’s credit, this is the time to review it. With interest rates having dramatically increased recently, reducing or eliminating debt may be prudent. Review your estate plan with your attorney and accountant, with the goal of maximizing the rules governing taxes and wealth transfers.
Q: HOW CAN YOUR EXPERTISE IN AREAS LIKE TRUST AND WILLS OR ASSET PROTECTION HELP READERS PROTECT AND GROW THEIR ASSETS AND INVESTMENTS FOR A PROSPEROUS FUTURE?
A: It is extremely important to have an effective estate plan in place so that the assets you have spent your life accumulating end up with your desired beneficiaries. A simple Last Will and Testament will achieve this; however, a Will does go through the Probate process, which can be lengthy and expensive. One way to avoid Probate is by creating and properly ‘funding’ a Trust. By creating a Trust, you are still
able to deal with your assets as you desire during your lifetime(s); however, upon death, Trust assets are distributed to beneficiaries without Court intervention. If asset protection is your desire, you can create an Asset Protection Trust, which is irrevocable, but you still basically maintain control of those assets. An irrevocable Trust is more complex than a revocable Trust, but it does have its benefits. It is also very important to have Healthcare Powers of Attorney, which gives your nominated agent(s) authority to carry out your healthcare desires in the event you become unable to vocalize those decisions yourself.
Q: FAMILY DYNAMICS CAN EVOLVE, AND RELATIONSHIPS CAN CHANGE OVER TIME. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR READERS LOOKING TO STRENGTHEN THEIR FAMILY’S LEGAL FOUNDATION IN THE NEW YEAR, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS LIKE CHILD CUSTODY? ARE THERE STEPS THEY CAN CONTINUED > JANUARY 2 0 2 4 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C O M / R E D R O C K

“The new year is a chance to evaluate your personal and family goals, which should include your financial and estate planning.”
TAKE TO FOSTER HEALTHIER CO-PARENTING AND FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS?
A: If you are subject to Court Orders governing minor children, review them and be sure you understand and are complying with the Orders and that your co-parent is as well. There are many apps available that allow you to create a custody calendar you can share, making it easy to follow the custodial timeshare. Plan and notice your annual vacation custodial time. Consider enrolling in a parenting communication application to share information concerning the children, whereby you can document the sharing of information and likely encourage more healthy, less combative communication. If you are entitled to child support from your co-parent, consider a review of that obligation. In Nevada, the Court can review and modify support every three years. Changes in income and circumstances may dictate an adjustment of the amount is appropriate. The attorneys are licensed to practice law in the State of Nevada.
