As we're about to dive headfirst into a fresh new year, I find myself filled with gratitude and excitement for the journey that lies ahead. The past year has been a wild ride, and I can't wait to keep this adventure going with all of you in 2024. In this January issue, we're getting real about something that resonates with all of us – health and wellness. You know, that time of year when we're all dreaming big about becoming our best selves. But let's not get too hung up on the end goal. Instead, let's zoom in on the day-to-day choices that will get us there. Our pages are all about exploring the different ways we can kick our lives up a notch, tackling the physical, mental, and emotional sides of our well-being. Queen Creek is home to businesses committed to helping individuals like you and me achieve a healthier lifestyle. It's a celebration of the local establishments that pour their hearts into making a positive impact on our community. Remember, it's not about the occasional choices we make, but the consistent ones. So, while planning that dream vacation, also work towards incorporating regular moments of rest into your weekly routine. Join a fitness community or gym, and don't forget to savor that dessert you've been eyeing at Nothing Bundt Cakes. It's not about what you do on some days; it's about what you do most days that shapes a more peaceful, fulfilling, and fabulous year. Here's to you—your journey, your choices, and your well-being. We're rooting for you every step of the way. Let's make 2024 a year of growth, joy, and extraordinary moments. May it be filled with all the things that make your heart smile. Skin Deep KRYSTAL LYNN CAREY GIVES HER TOP TIPS FOR BEAUTIFUL SKIN.
Krystal Lynn Carey
Your face is the very first thing everyone sees. Taking care of this delicate skin begins with some sage advice from Krystal Lynn Carey, owner of Bowtox Junky. Here are her tops tips and recommended treatments to keep you glowing into the new year.
Krystal Lynn Carey SUN PROTECTION
Aside from hydration, Krystal says the one thing she stresses to all her clients is SPF. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. 365 days a year. Nothing will age you quicker or is as unforgiving as the sun. There are lots of ways to apply sunblock. Krystal's favorite is tinted sunscreen. She especially loves ZO primer sunscreen and PCA tinted sunscreen. Beware that having sunscreen in your makeup is not the same. She advises to start with sunscreen then apply your makeup.
UPGRADE YOUR SKINCARE
Your average skincare will not do, according to Krystal, you have to up your skin game to medical grade. It can change your life! Krystal says that the skin care counter at the mall can actually charge the same as medical grade when they are not even close to the same quality. Krystal recommends Dr. Obaji and his medical grade skincare line ZO. In addition, she stresses the importance of getting your skin ready for treatment. In other words, you must wash, tone, exfoliate. Then you add your treatments that are customized to your skin care needs.

Retinol
RETINOL
Retinol is considered a lifelong treatment, after age 25 Everybody should be on a retinol to maintain their collagen and help with cell turnover. Medical grade retinol is ideal but what people don’t realize is that there are different types of retinol so it’s important to talk with a knowledgeable provider who can start you on the correct retinol treatment.
NEUROMODULATORS
Perhaps better known as Bowtox Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau are all great ways to erase years off your face. One treatment can last on average of 3 to 5 months. It works by temporarily reducing the muscle movement that causes those pesky lines and wrinkles.
SCULPTRA
Sculptra is a bio-stimulator that encourages collagen to grow. Over time our skin begins to thin out because it loses collagen and elasticity. Krystal suggests doing the recommended 3 sessions of Sculptra and then maintaining it once a year to reclaim your collagen. Follow up treatments can then maintain the collagen you lose each year. Drinking a collagen supplement is not the same as growing your own collagen. Just like muscles, you have to work out to grow your muscles, you can’t just drink them.
CO2 FACIAL
This facial is one you can receive in your office or at home. Carbon dioxide therapy forces the oxygen in the surrounding tissues to open up into the upper layers of the skin. Not only does it help with anti-aging but it’s like putting your face in an oxygen chamber. This can increase hydration and moisture in the skin significantly.

A Na t u ra l l y He a l t hy Ho m e HOW CLEAN ARE YOUR CLEANING PRODUCTS?
ARTICLE BY FLORENCE DANIELS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY KAEDEN PETERSON
18
M UST SE E | HO ME + S ERVICE S
We all want our homes to be fresh and free of germs. However, when we grab the bleach or glass cleaner, do you ever wonder what we might be replacing the dust and dirt with? Gemma D'Acquisto of Natty Home Beginnings, says that ingredients in many popular cleaners can be contributing to issues like headaches, fatigue, skin reactions, and more. Gemma has long held the belief in using products that are not only cleansing but natural and healthy. Often, the air inside our homes is more toxic than outside. Here, Gemma shares her advice and knowledge on what to use and what not to use.
HARMFUL INGREDIENTS TO LOOK OUT FOR:
Fragrance/ parfum: always make sure the sources are listed, such as essential oils, otherwise they can be made from many different chemicals that can affect your health in negative ways. Methylisothiazolinone: this is a toxin that can be found in "safer" cleaning products that are actually greenwashing. Health issues commonly linked to this toxin include skin reactions, rashes, inhalation toxicity, organ toxicity and neurotoxicity. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): side effects can include eczema, asthma, allergies, migraines, hormonal imbalances, just to name a few.
HEALTHY DISINFECTING ALTERNATIVES:
Hydrogen peroxide & vinegar: do NOT mix the two, after cleaning the surface, spray one then let it sit for 10 minutes, wipe off, then repeat with the second. Force of Nature: this is a medical-grade EPA registered disinfectant. All in one cleaner and deodorizer. Aunt Fannie's: This is a great disinfecting surface wipe alternative.
ALL IN ONE CLEANER:
Branch Basics: this starter kit comes in a concentrate bottle with additional bottles along with directions on how much water and concentrate to fill for each bottle.
Athos Living: this brand has a variety of products for different areas of your home.
DISHWASHER PODS:
Puracy is plant based, eco-friendly, and non-toxic. For a dishwasher liquid alternative, try Attitude Living
AIR FRESHENER:
Products by Grow and Sprouts, which carry their own brand of room spray that is non-toxic. You can create a lovely scent in your home without mysterious ingredients and instead use essential oils. If candles are more your thing, try candles by Fontana or anything that is all natural beeswax. Candles from beeswax can even help purify the air in your home.
LAUNDRY:
Molly Suds, Attitude Living, Branch Basics, Ecover Zero are some of the healthier options. Also, instead of dryer sheets try dryer wool balls.
CARPET CLEANER:
Force of Nature and Puracy provide great options or use baking soda (helps deodorize).
WOOD POLISH:
Rowe Casa Organics or a dusting spray DIY: 1 cup water + 1/4 cup vinegar + 1-2 tbsp olive oil + essential oil of choice - make sure to shake before every use. Cleaning Tip #1: Having an air purifier can help reduce the dust buildup in your home in between cleaning. Cleaning Tip: #2 You can use "Steel Wool 0000" to remove hard water buildup & soap scum on your shower glass doors/ walls, faucets/ hardware. Cleaning Tip #3: Keep a squeegee in your shower to remove any excess water/ soap on glass and walls after every shower to prevent that buildup. Also helps to keep your shower looking clean in between cleanings. Gemma has included a 15% discount for Athos Cleaning products if you use promo code NATTYHOME To contact Gemma for a free walkthrough and quote: 480-239-6696 or www.nattyhomebeginnings.com.

When we age we think about losing strength, elastin, or balance. Yet, perhaps what is even dearer to most is their independence. For those who still want to live in their home but may need some extra help, Visiting Angels provides the care they need. Care Manager, Melissa McCracker, spoke of the many helpful services they provide to the elderly who still want to feel independent or may not have loved ones living nearby. Visiting Angels provides assistance with in-home, non-medical care. Melissa says that carers can act as 'personal assistants' and help with things like meal preparation, laundry, cleaning around the house, help with dressing, or even taking them to appointments. In this way, help comes to the comfort of their own home to keep people 55 and older safe and give them tailored support. Melissa says they have seen their clients improve their quality of life and create close bonds with their carers. Each carer is screened and paired with a client that they are most compatible with. As a result, Melissa says she has seen many beautiful friendships formed in the process. Visiting Angels offers short term and long term care, with a minimum of a 4 hour visit. There are no contractual obligations and the visits can be paused as needed. In addition, Visiting Angels provides lots of resources for whatever people might need from plumbers to hair dressers. They even have a list of mobile services that come right to your door. If you or your loved one is needing a bit of help, Visiting Angels could work for you and on your terms. Not only will they cater to your needs but give you that independence as well as some peace of mind. www.visitingangels.com

Laryssa and Ryan Sonberg are Queen Creek residents who have been running their Rest Recovery Wellness location since October of 2023. Originally their business sold saunas, cold plunge tubs, and other therapeutic equipment before providing a one stop clinic for anyone wanting to experience these wellness therapies. Ryan has a history in fitness, and Laryssa comes from a nursing background. Together they understand how the body works and what it needs to recover and heal. Many

of their clients are athletes, people recovering from injuries or surgeries, or even those who want to boost their immune system. Upon entering, most people will spend about an hour to go through the entire process. A typical visit will begin with 10-15 minutes wearing compression boots that help with lymphatic massage and circulation. Afterwards you will sit in the cold plunge for 2-3 minutes before getting in the warmth of the sauna at about 150 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes. This is called contrast therapy. The cold water, at about 50 degrees Fahrenheit, improves circulation, boosts your mood, and supports weight loss. Meanwhile, the sauna helps to detoxify, relax, and even aid pain relief. Finally you spend about 10 minutes in red light therapy which can penetrate 2-3 layers of your skin. This particular therapy can help heal wounds, fight the effects of aging, inflammation, overall skin health, and sleep quality. The benefits of these various approaches is useful to anyone who wants to facilitate their recovery or looking to boost their energy and mood. Laryssa and Ryan provide a soothing, spa-like environment too. They provide memberships but also drop-in rates and the first trial visit is free. So if you are looking to add something new when it comes to your health or you are curious to learn more, visit Rest Recovery Wellness at www.restrecoverywellness.com

Becky Medina has worked as a masseuse for 21 years. Her brand of massage is therapeutic, healing, and reviving. Becky is the owner of Rejuvenate Mobile Massage which brings her healing touch right to your home. Here she explains why massage is not just about relaxing and that the benefits can be numerous.
CONDITIONS THAT ARE HELPED BY MASSAGE:
Becky has worked with clients who have needed her services for a variety of reasons. Massage can help with Parkinson's, low back pain, injury, post-surgery, and even for those who are in sedentary jobs.
BENEFITS:
Massage can relieve and release muscle tension but it also stretches and can even release toxins that sit in your muscles. Her clients can experience a boost in circulation, less pain, greater range of motion, and a faster recovery from injury.
IMPROVEMENTS:
Becky says massage will improve your sleep and reduce stress. The body responds by releasing more endorphins (peptides that increase feelings of well-being). You can improve your recovery time and posture. Besides addressing physical illness, it can better your mental state as well. To find out more and experience the therapeutic effects of massage contact Becky through her instagram handle #rejuvenate.mobile.massage

Top with chia or flax seeds for an extra omega-3 boost, nuts or seeds for added protein, or sliced fruit for additional vitamins and fiber. Including a hint of turmeric or ginger can aid in digestion and has anti-inflammatory properties. Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables can aid in cellular repair and gut health, and smoothie bowls are a delicious way to incorporate more into your day.
