CELEBRATING THE WOMEN IN OUR LIVES

SIGNATURE CULINARY EXPERIENCES

FABULOUS Females
I don’t know about you but I love any opportunity to recognize the women in my life who just make life more rich and beautiful. The wives, mothers and daughters are some of the most influential women in our lives.

And of course with Mother’s Day this month, all eyes are on moms… But it’s not just the biological mothers but the mother figures in our lives who have made an indelible impact on us. It’s the family members, teachers, friends and neighbors doing awesome things in our communities, pouring into our lives - making themselves unforgettable and irreplaceable.
I have so many STRONG women in my life that lift me up and keep me going every day. Some of them are featured in this month's FABULOUS FEMALES issue.
While it’s always important to shop local and support our area businesses, this month is the perfect time to patronize businesses owned by women in our communities. That’s one of my favorite parts of this role - connecting with and championing the best of the best when it comes to Dallas women.
They are movers and shakers, builders and makers. They are both seen and unseen. Their silent service blesses those who are under their care. Their attention to detail shows us something about beauty that can’t be seen or understood any other way.
I hope you’ll take a few minutes to send a text, make a phone call or get your kids on a video call with the women in your life who deserve recognition. It only takes a minute to brighten someone’s day and remind them how much you love them.

Housewife HARDLY A

Meet the REAL Cary Deuber and what makes her shine.
ARTICLE BY BRET MCKINNEY PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANTHONY CHIANG
Most everyone in town (and out) know Cary Deuber as one of the original “Real Housewives of Dallas”. Cary was an original cast member seasons 1-4 and remains, in my mind the BEST housewife to boot. After Cary's exit, the show only lasted one more season before Bravo pulled the plug on the ladies of the Lone Star State. Needless to say, that portion of Cary's history is just a tiny part of all the things that make up this dynamic Dallas woman.

Born in Hartford, Connecticut Cary spent her early years on the East Coast and in Ohio. She moved to Texas for High School and then attended Baylor University where she got her Bachelors in the Science of Nursing.
After college Cary went straight to work at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and then went back to school at UCLA earning her Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant Degree. She then transitioned into Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and started working for a plastic surgeon who mentored her in her mid twenties. She then returned to school to get her CRNFA where she began freelancing and working for different surgeons. That is how she met her now husband, Dr. Mark Deuber, and became work buddies. Today, Cary and Mark work together owning and operating the renowned Lemmon Avenue Plastic Surgery and Laser Center. Cary is beautiful on the inside and out but her and husband Mark are the experts at helping us keep the outside as beautiful as our eternal young soul inside.
Cary’s other passions outside of the office include yoga, travel, food, and philanthropy. She can be seen sweating at Ritual One and dining with husband Mark at such local favorites as Nonna and Uchi. Cary is mother to Zuri and stepmother to Laura and Gray Deuber, who also operates as a contributing photographer to PHCL often. She also plays mom to two adorable and quite tiny maltese dogs Tilly and Luna.
Whether you are looking for a little facial refresh or a new “Fountain of Youth”, Lemmon Avenue is your destination. Their world-class medical aesthetics facility offers the most sought-after aesthetic treatments. With a thorough selection of cosmetic approaches, The Deubers ensure each patient receives a safe and satisfying experience while undergoing their customized treatment plan. www.lemmonavenue.com

MASTERFUL MADNESS

TEXAS BALLET THEATER’S TIM O’KEEFE BRINGS “GISELLE” TO DALLAS THIS MAY

Giselle is one of the most iconic classical ballets of all time. The tragedy of Giselle is told through delicate yet demanding choreography. This performance features intricate pointe work and sweeping, ghostlike movements that evoke an otherworldly sense of beauty.
Forsaken by her love, the beautiful-but-bereft Giselle succumbs to madness and a broken heart. Yet even in death, she offers forgiveness to her faithless suitor in an effort to save him from the vengeful Willis. Artistic Director Tim O’Keefe presents his brilliant interpretation of this iconic masterpiece.
In Dallas , all performances of Giselle will feature live orchestration from The Dallas Opera Orchestra, conducted by Michael Moricz. Giselle is being performed Dallas at Winspear Opera House May 16-18. For tickets visit texasballettheater.org

Creative Collaboration
Cerulean Gallery brings together two of its resident artists for an eclectic new series
Allison Castillo, who is known for her “graffiti love” paintings and Elizabeth Taylor, who is known for her porcelain butterflies came together to create a stunning collaboration when Allison discovered that both she and Elizabeth had been creating a series based on Galatians 5:22-23 “Fruits of the Spirit” Series in their own styles and mediums for years without crossing paths. Their styles combined and resulted in a series of pieces that radiate with positivity and light-hearted sophistication. Each piece is 3-dimensional and highly textured and a fantastic addition to any home or office space.
Castillo finds inspiration in motivational podcasts, uplifting music, and everyday life as a mother of three children. Her favorite mantra “All of this is temporary’’ personifies her creative process and can be found woven into her work. Other unique words and phrases appear in her latest Love series making each piece feel like its own experience.
Allison’s work can be found on multiple continents; she is featured in
HGTV magazine and collaborations with Barrington Gifts and Paper Sunday.
Elizabeth Taylor has been an artist all her life. It’s how God made her. She was created to create! Ceramics, cakes, clothes, crafts! Elizabeth prayed for creativity and God blessed her with these beautiful butterflies! She can’t stop making them! They bring her and her creations endless joy! In addition to being an artist and a believer, Elizabeth is a wife and mother to two beautiful children.
Not only are these two ladies a tour de force in the Art scene, so is gallery owner Caroline Crockett Kneese. Caroline owns two locations, one here in Snider Plaza and a second location in Amarillo.
The galleries feature the works of 40+ artists in all styles and mediums and rotates exhibitions every 8 weeks.
Cerulean Gallery gives back to the community by donating a portion of the proceeds from each exhibition reception to benefit various philanthropic organizations.

From Stem To Vase:

TRANSFORMING FLORALS INTO ART
Flowers have a rich history of symbolic meanings.
As far back as the 19th century, they were used to convey secret messages. Stories throughout history recount how flowers were used to send hidden messages between people. French publishers began producing flower dictionaries that cataloged the many floral codes that had been gathered over time. Some of these meanings were linked to the flower’s root name, often derived from mythology, while others were drawn from the flowers themselves. The colors, medicinal properties, and even the superstitions
associated with these flowers all contributed to the creation of this secret language.
In addition to their symbolic significance, flowers bring natural beauty to any interior, enhancing spaces with their color, texture, and mood-boosting qualities. Floral arrangements not only create a cozy atmosphere but also infuse a room with personality, elevating the overall ambiance. There are multiple ways to creatively integrate florals into your home, and whether using fresh or artificial flowers, creative displays can make quite the statement piece.
Florals and Fruit

“Not only will the flowers’ fragrance fill the air, but the citrus notes from the fruit will add a refreshing scent.”
Add an extra burst of color and texture to your floral arrangement by layering fruit around the edges of your vase. To achieve this, place a smaller vase inside a larger one, ensuring the flowers stay contained in the inner vase to preserve their shape. Fill the surrounding space with water and then arrange sliced fruit along the vase’s outer sides. For a fresh touch, add ice cubes to keep the fruit looking vibrant longer and to hold them in place. Not only will the flowers’ fragrance fill the air, but the citrus notes from the fruit will add a refreshing scent.

Flower Frogs

Using a frog to display flowers creates a minimalist yet elegant look that highlights the individuality of each bloom. It helps the stems stay in place. To set it up, place the frog on your chosen display base, whether it’s a vase, bowl, platter, or any container you prefer. Then, simply insert the flower stems by gently pressing them into the prongs. Tip: Flowers with sturdy stems and a lighter top work best in a frog, as delicate blooms tend to lose their shape more quickly.

Hanging Florals
For a dramatic effect, try creating a hanging floral display. Floral cones are available for this style, or you can craft your own for a more personalized, organic look. The contrast between long-stemmed white flowers and a dark wall creates a striking visual impact.
No matter how you choose to display them, flowers are a wonderful addition to any room. They boost mood, improve air quality, spark creativity, and bring a decorative charm to any space.
