AS THE SAYING GOES, TIME FLIES WHEN YOU’RE HAVING FUN. And time sure has flown by this year as we can’t believe we’ve put together the final issue of Potomac Lifestyle in 2018! It seems like just yesterday we were sitting down to write our January letter to all of you—talking about resolutions and renewal—and yet, here we are, almost time to do it again. There’s a unique perspective that working in publishing brings. We’re always looking toward the future. Whether it’s planning our next issue or developing story ideas for the next year, we’re often already fast forwarded to future months before the current month has even begun. The fast-paced lifestyle this industry calls for can often make it difficult to really settle down and absorb what’s going on around us and, before we know it, the year is over and it’s time to move forward again. MONTGOMERY COUNTY AWARDS 12 SMALL BUSINESS MATCHING GRANTS Montgomery County has awarded a total of $425,000 in matching grants to 12 small companies that applied for the county’s new Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Matching Grant Program. A significant component of NCCF’s portfolio of services is the Neediest Kids program. The Neediest Kids targets students who go without food, adequate clothing, dental and vision care. Entirely funded by private donations, the Neediest Kids ensures no child will be unsuccessful in school due to a lack of basic essentials. In the five years since the Neediest Kids program joined NCCF, the organizations have helped the 42 percent of students in the National Capital Region distracted by the deprivation associated with poverty. You can also host your own drives on behalf of NCCF like community supporter Boeing did this fall. Days of service are a great team building event, and community volunteers from Keller Williams frequently helped beautify NCCF’s campus gardens. The Read Aloud program helps promote literacy from an early age, and you can volunteer to be a reader. Santa brings joy and gifts to children at NCCF’s Greentree Shelter, and you may sign up to participate in the annual Santa’s workshop, one of the many holiday parties or donate gifts.
