Capturing Timeless Memories

Tips for Picture-Perfect Family Photos

Photographs, like memories, are snapshots of moments in life that are cherished for years to come. Local photographer Casey McDonald, owner of Three Little Chickadees Photography, works magic behind the camera to preserve these special moments in time by capturing the unique personalities of loved ones through a camera lens. As a mother of four, Casey knows firsthand how quickly these precious moments can turn into memories, and how hard it can be to witness families change in, what feels like, the blink of an eye. While there are countless ways to share memories through social media and smartphones, nothing compares to the nostalgia and permanence of traditional family photos.

Casey’s expertise goes beyond just taking pictures; she creates an experience that ensures every session is filled with genuine smiles, laughter, and love. Her ability to capture candid moments and natural interactions makes each photograph a true representation of a family’s essence.

To help you achieve those Pinterest-perfect family Fall photos, Casey has some invaluable tips. From choosing the right outfits to creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, her advice will ensure family photo sessions are both fun and memorable.

Embrace Harvest Tones:

“While there are countless ways to share memories through social media and smartphones, nothing compares to the nostalgia and permanence of traditional family photos.”

For a timeless look, choose harvest tones like burgundy, mustard, brown, cream, and olive green. Avoid logos, graphics, and matching outfits. Select 2-3 coordinating color palettes for a cohesive look. Add fun accessories like a fall hat or scarf to enhance your family photoshoot, adding depth and charm to your finished gallery.

Golden Hour:

Known for her warm yet bold style, Casey’s favorite time to take pictures is about an hour before sunset. The warm glow of the natural light during golden hour provides a magical backdrop for family photos. Texas weather can be unpredictable, so Casey stays in constant communication with her clients if rain is forecasted during your scheduled sessions.

Strike a Pose: Engaging the Kids:

Today’s moments become tomorrow’s memories, captured beautifully through a candid photography approach. Instead of traditional posed shots, interactive sessions encourage families to play, tickle, chase, and be themselves, naturally bringing out playful sides filled with genuine smiles, love, and laughter.

Before arriving, explain the photoshoot to your children and avoid scheduling during nap or bedtime. Bring a favorite toy or treat to ease camera shyness. Sessions start with fun games like red light, green light, or tag to make kids comfortable. Soon, kids forget the camera, parents relax, and every joyful moment is captured frame by frame.

Embrace Autumn Elegance

Fall Fashion Trends from Paige Lynn & Co.

As the air crisps and the leaves begin to fall, this signifies a time to refresh that wardrobe with the latest autumn styles. In Texas, fall doesn’t always mean cooler weather.  During this juncture, one local boutique, Paige Lynn & Co. offers a stunning array of fashion that combines comfort, style, and a touch of elegance for all ages. 'Weather' layering up for a cozy evening, dressing for a special outing, or going glam in athleisure, their curated selection will help any closet transition effortlessly with the right pieces.

September through November are finicky months, so traditional Fall Fashion for the south comes with a twist. A stylish cardigan or sweater dress can be paired with funky wedges. White jeans worn with earth tones like mustard, orange, or greens perfectly capture the essence of the harvest. Cool tones are allowed as well. What one would presume a summer item, such as a pink silky skirt, can easily be incorporated into the

rotation when fitted with a black, cap sleeve sweater and chunky boots.

Layering is key for fluctuating fall temperatures. This can be achieved with a lightweight jacket or vest. Denim jackets remain a timeless choice, but don’t shy away from experimenting with faux fur or leather for a bit of edge. No outfit is completely void of accessories. Scarves in rich textures and patterns add a pop of color to any ensemble, while wide-brim hats and beanies are also in vogue, offering both style and functionality as the temperatures change. A red peacoat is a classic statement piece, and always a head-turner. Such items not only stand out but also allow expression of personal style in a unique way.

Embrace the beauty of fall fashion in confidence with pieces from Paige Lynn & Co. Pair them with classics, favorites, and boldness to create any desired style, because fashion is subjective, and everyone is free to express themselves individually.

Fall in Love with Fabulous Fall Hair Trends

ARTICLE BY STACY LEACH | PHOTOGRAPHY BY FIREHEART PHOTOGRAPHY

1. TRANSFORM YOUR LOOK: EMBRACE THE BUTTERFLY CUT THIS FALL

The hottest cut trending that looks amazing on everyone is the ‘butterfly cut,’ featuring lots of gorgeous layers on medium-long hair! This cut complements every face shape and hair texture beautifully. Effortless and chic, it's perfect for any style.

The must-have hair color this season is a stunning soft brown balayage, perfect for enhancing dark natural hair. To achieve this warm modern look, stay as close to your summer color hair, but add richer, darker tones for a touch of seasonal warmth. This subtle yet striking transformation will keep your locks looking vibrant and elegant all autumn long.

Want to be bold? Add rich, darker copper hues to enhance and deepen your usual shade. These warm tones not only bring out a gorgeous autumnal glow but also enrich your overall look, perfectly complementing the season's vibrant, cozy colors.

Forging Fashion

Forged from fire, birthed of an artist, Iron Lamb Jewelry beautifully displays an inventiveness of both strength and tenderness in each piece. Pioneer, Michelle O’Neal, finds inspiration in everything - nature, ageless design, and circadian objects, but the rich art of the southwest along with the timelessness of vintage shines through. Conquering the skills of a silversmith, Michelle’s first piece was truly a work of love. A silver and turquoise pendant with her wedding date impressed on the back was the nascency of her modern southwest bijouterie. As bursts of creativity overcome her, Michelle also finds solace in the quiet of her workbench, blossoming in the flow of creation. Each piece holds joy and meaning, and neither are qualities lacking in Michelle’s hands.

THE EXCITEMENT OF NCISD’S CTE PROGRAMS

Unleashing Creativity and Passion

ARTICLE BY AMBER DOBYNS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY NEW CANEY HIGH SCHOOL
“The CTE programs at NCISD are shaping students’ futures with engaging, intern-style learning experiences.”

It starts with a sketch – one line of pencil lead that flourishes into a masterpiece of color, imagination, and dreams turned reality. Flowers, fabric, and functionality are the precipice of the design, but that is not where the list ends. AT NCISD, the halls are a buzz with the excitement and magic of discovery, all thanks to the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program! Students embark on enchanting journeys through a world of electives, uncovering hidden passions while gaining hands-on experience and skills that prepare them for the adventures of college and careers.

Leading the charge in two of these sensational CTE programs are the visionaries of creativity and inspiration: Charlene “Cheri” Loving, the NCHS Agriculture Science Teacher and Future Farmers of America (FFA) Advisor, and Kaley Ihle, the captivating Fashion Design Teacher. With their guidance, students travel to regional Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) conferences as well as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and return home with prestigious awards. These mentors inspire and encourage students to step out of their comfort zones and prepare for their futures.

In both programs, creativity blossoms like fairy tales unfolding on parchment. Visions turn into research, critical thinking, and meticulous planning as students bring their craft to life. In the realm of fashion design, students are introduced into the intriguing world of graphic design and earn an Adobe Illustrator certification, a sparkling gem to put on a resume. Meanwhile, floral design students explore the myriad avenues of FFA, gaining expertise in horticulture, wildlife and small animal management, welding, and advanced animal and plant sciences.

These alluring subjects prepare students to earn their Level 1 and 2 State Certifications through the Texas State Floral Association.

One particularly adroit student, Makiah Nelson, combined her passion for floral and fashion design to create a stunning dress made of flowers. With guidance from Mrs. Loving, she sketched her dream design and selected the perfect florets. As part of the curriculum, Makiah had to learn how to calculate necessary order amounts, place said orders, and budget accordingly. Using nature’s own materials, she molded the design with moss, chicken wire, and soaked foam, strategically applying fresh pompon to transform her vision into a breathtaking reality.

In Ms. Ihle’s fashion design class, students learn to read and design patterns, master sewing machines, and develop Pinterest-worthy designs that fit not only for royalty. Through FCCLA, they gain field experience in community service, public speaking, and sharing their entrepreneurial spirit. Students create a store brand for their final project, presenting astonishing creations to peers and judges from all over Texas. Back on campus, these projects are showcased in the library. Ms. Ihle is currently working on an exciting year-end fashion show where students’ original designs will take the stage and become Instagram-worthy sensations.

The CTE programs at NCISD are shaping students’ futures with engaging, intern-style learning experiences. Graduates are ready to pursue careers in technical design, fashion photography, event coordination, graphic design, and even business ownership. Start the conversation with your kids today and discover which enchanting electives will help their futures bloom!

In both programs, creativity blossoms like fairy tales unfolding on parchment.

WHAT IS A FAD YOU NEVER WANT TO SEE GO AWAY, AND WHY?

Shoulder pads are a FAD that I never want to see go away. I think a clothing piece with shoulder pads is an absolute head-turner because it makes a powerful statement all while making an individual exude confidence.

WHOSE STYLE DO YOU ADMIRE MOST AND WHY?

We all know how much fashion influences the world. It was often noted how Michelle Obama’s wardrobe spanned everything from ready-to-wear J Crew, off-the-rack Micheal Kors, from casual to couture, and a plethora of designers both new and notable. She doesn’t just make you want to buy the dress, she makes you want to be the woman in the dress. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the plum monochromatic suit, coat and oversized belt that broke the internet during the inauguration, and put designer Sergio Hudson on the map. Again, I didn’t just  want that suit, I wanted to  be  the woman in that suit…your head is held higher, you walk taller, you feel stronger,…it is an amazing thing to feel….being empowered through fashion.

HOW DID YOU FIND YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?

I believe that I found my style once I fell in love with and learned to be comfortable in my own body. I am a curvy woman, and it’s not always easy to shop for my size, but I’m able to push my style with colors and patterns that compliment my skin tone and physique which ultimately allows me to continue to be uniquely me. I believe that my sense of fashion will be reflected during my weekend at Internationals this upcoming month!

Falling For Neutrals

SEASONAL DECOR TIPS FOR KEEPING IT SIMPLE

I love decorating for the holiday season, but it gets tough if trying to keep a home decor airy, light and neutral. My home is full of neutrals, such as linen, khaki, white and gray, so decorating for the holidays can be tricky with the bright and bold themes on display at the stores. Here are tips regarding how to achieve a festive look without going overboard.

LESS IS MORE

First, whenever decorating for the holiday season, I clear what's possible to make room for what's coming. I eliminate decor pieces that are displayed year-round to avoid adding clutter to rooms. Giving decor pieces or floral arrangements their own space to shine can pull the room together and make it feel very designed.

STICK TO THE PALETTE

As best as possible, I try to stick to each of the color palettes in my room. When it’s time to bring out pumpkins or holiday Santas, I stick to white and neutral or add in color pops of gold and silver to keep everything flowing. If I start to add too many primary colors, it ends up looking like a mash-up gone astray.

CELEBRATE MEMORIES

The holidays are often bursting with family traditions and memories, and decor can reflect that, too. I have many items handed down over the years that I like admiring, but if they aren’t quite right for my room, there are options to bring the spirit of them to life. Framed holiday family photos in a black and white filter are an excellent way to tie in your history of celebrating in a subtle way.

LOOK TO NATURE

Some of my favorite items to use for holiday decor come from a simple nature walk. Using actual items you find, or just getting inspiration from the outdoors is a great way to bring sights of the season indoors. For fall, elements such as branches, leaves and neutral gourds match with everything. For winter, I love using sticks with berries

or evergreen branches with pine cones to fill vases. Add a battery-operated strand of lights and you’re looking just like a designer home magazine spread.

GO COZY

Swapping out usual throw pillows and throw blankets for plushy, cuddly materials and seasonal prints are another simple way to add holiday spirit without being so literal. Opting for neutral plaids, cable knits, or sherpa materials add that feeling of fall and winter.

CATER TO ALL THE SENSES

Don’t forget about the smell! Stocking up on candles that smell like the season is the last missing piece for a holiday vibe. The total sensory feeling of the holidays is what really brings a home to life, whether it's pumpkin spice burning for Thanksgiving or a fresh pine and cedar for Christmas.

If items aren’t working together, don’t be afraid to get crafty. Painting pumpkins with spray paint or tying some neutral ribbons around existing vases are an easy and affordable way to make them fit a specific aesthetic.

Discover the Magic of Red Light Therapy and Cryotherapy

In the realm of wellness and recovery, red light therapy and cryotherapy have gained attention for their potential benefits. Both treatments are increasingly popular among those seeking innovative ways to enhance their health and well-being.

RED LIGHT THERAPY

Red light therapy involves exposing the skin to low levels of red or near-infrared light. This therapy is believed to penetrate the skin and stimulate cellular function. Many users report improvements in skin texture, reduced inflammation, and accelerated healing.

CRYOTHERAPY

Cryotherapy, on the other hand, involves exposing the body to extremely cold temperatures for short periods. This treatment is often used by athletes and fitness enthusiasts to aid in muscle recovery and reduce inflammation. The cold exposure is thought to trigger a systemic response that may improve circulation and alleviate pain.

Club Studio is committed to providing safe and effective wellness services. While they offer both red light therapy and cryotherapy, they encourage clients to seek personalized advice and consider their unique health conditions before starting any new treatment. Their team is here to support your wellness journey with informed guidance and care.
