PARK IMPROVEMENTS

In addition to road and bridge maintenance, Precinct 4 also maintains several parks within East Montgomery County. Commissioner Gray has been committed to investing in spaces that serve the residents of our community. Whether it’s new batting cages at Ipes Park, or a new concession stand and press box at Tram Road Park, all Precinct 4 parks have seen an improvement over the last 3 years. New playground equipment has also been installed at the parks for families to enjoy.

Recently, Precinct 4 completed a major park upgrade at Ed Rinehart Park with the installation of artificial turf fields. A project currently underway is the redesign of Bull Sallas Park to accommodate more people. This includes additional parking, football fields, and lighting.

As one of the fastest growing regions in Texas, investing in our parks is just another way Commissioner Gray is working to ensure our community is a great place to live, work, and play. “We've

THE ELITE HOSPITAL KINGWOOD DIFFERENCE

Every Second Counts, Every Patient Matters

“Emergency care the way it should be— fast, compassionate, and centered around each patient’s unique needs.”

WHAT SETS ELITE HOSPITAL KINGWOOD APART FROM OTHER ER OR URGENT CARE OPTIONS IN THE AREA?

Elite Hospital Kingwood delivers emergency healthcare the way it was meant to be—compassionate, prompt, and patient-centered. As a licensed and accredited hospital, we provide the full scope of emergency services and inpatient medical care for both adults and children. While our medical capabilities mirror those of a traditional ER, our level of service truly sets us apart.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE THE PATIENT EXPERIENCE FROM THE MOMENT SOMEONE WALKS IN?

From the moment patients arrive, they’re greeted by a warm, attentive front desk staff. Our check-in process is quick and seamless. The lobby is clean, quiet, and designed to be calming, with a complimentary coffee and snack station for guests. Patients are typically seen in under seven minutes and receive one-on-one attention from a board-certified physician in a private, comfortable room.

WHAT MEDICAL SERVICES AND TECHNOLOGIES DO YOU OFFER?

We handle everything from minor injuries to major emergencies. Our services include inpatient care, outpatient diagnostics, on-site lab testing, X-rays, ultrasounds, and CT scans—available 24/7. This allows our team to quickly evaluate and treat a wide range of conditions without delay.

IS ELITE HOSPITAL OPEN 24/7, AND DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

Yes! We’re open 24/7, 365 days a year. Patients are always seen by a board-certified emergency or specialist physician. We accept most commercial insurances and Medicare, and we are in-network with United Preferred Health Network, Humble ISD, and Spring ISD.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE, AND HOW DOES BILLING WORK FOR PATIENTS?

We accept most commercial insurances and Medicare. We are also in network with United Preferred Health Network, Humble ISD and Spring ISD employees

HOW DO YOU ENSURE PERSONALIZED, COMPASSIONATE CARE?

With low wait times and a low nurse-to-patient ratio, our staff can provide focused, individualized care. Our team members genuinely love what they do, and it shows in every interaction. From the front desk to our physicians, compassion and professionalism define every patient’s experience.

CAN YOU SHARE A PATIENT EXPERIENCE THAT REFLECTS YOUR CARE?

Elite Hospital Kingwood is the highest patientrated ER in the area, with a 4.7-star rating. One recent reviewer wrote, “Dr. Hummel was AMAZING! He explained everything clearly, treated me with respect, and made sure I was comfortable the entire time.” Another shared, “This is the only ER I’ll go to. They’ve helped us with everything from kidney stones to stitches. Always excellent care.” (Source: Yelp.com)

HOW IS ELITE INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY?

FAITH IN ACTION

How One Church Is Transforming Nigerian Communities

Stepping onto Nigerian soil for the first time in 1997, Larry Fleming didn’t know the trip he was taking would become a journey of lifelong commitment . Inspired by friends who visited Africa and returned with stories of profound need, Larry felt compelled to help. That first visit shaped his perspective, leading

“Mission trips go beyond service—they build relationships, restore dignity, and reflect the heart of Christ through love and action.”

to ongoing efforts that have touched countless lives, both in Nigeria and back home in the United States.

Through the College Park Church of Christ, mission trips to Nigeria have become more than annual visits. They support projects designed to share the love and message of Jesus Christ while improving everyday life for local communities. Larry’s work primarily focuses on the city of Aba, where benevolence remains at the heart of their initiatives—drilling water wells, expanding education, and providing medical care.

Since 2011, College Park Church of Christ, located in Conroe, Texas, has overseen the mission, with

Larry leading the charge alongside a dedicated team. Their efforts extend beyond Aba to areas like Port Harcourt and Lagos, addressing needs that range from health care to clean water access.

Between physical trips, financial resources sustain critical work that funds hernia surgeries, cleft palate repairs, cataract treatments, and prosthetic limb reconstructions. These contributions continue to shape lives long after missionaries return home. On each journey, the team follows up on these projects—checking on the sick, observing progress in schools and construction, and visiting villages where new wells have transformed daily routines.

In communities where people once traveled miles carrying water on their heads just to meet basic needs, something as simple as a well represents lasting change.

On Larry’s most recent trip, his wife Lisa joined him for the first time after years of hearing stories and seeing photos from past visits. Married for 42 years, they had dreamed of experiencing the mission together, but responsibilities at home had kept Lisa from going. While she had imagined the impact through secondhand accounts, being in Nigeria and seeing the faces of the people firsthand was something else entirely. The experience moved her deeply—an immersion into a culture where joy and generosity flourish despite hardship. Even in villages with so little, the generosity is boundless. Offering a stranger their last banana is a simple yet profound gesture of kindness.

Beyond the church’s direct efforts, partnerships with organizations like Rotary International, Cows for Christ, and Sunny Glen Children’s Home have amplified their impact. Rotary collaborations have helped expand access to clean water, a fundamental necessity often taken for granted elsewhere. The ongoing humanitarian, health, and infrastructure work reflects a commitment to making a difference where possible—even in small ways.

Over the years, Larry’s time in Nigeria has transformed him as much as it has helped others. He sees his business, Accurate Home and Commercial Services, as more than a livelihood—it’s a platform for sustaining mission work. He doesn’t see retirement in the future; his focus is clear: serve where he’s needed most.

To support the mission, visit www.cofcnigeria.com, mail donations to PO Box 8792, The Woodlands, Texas 77387, or give through Venmo @ChurchofChrist-Nigeria. The mission continues in 2026, bringing renewed hope through faith, generosity, and hard work.

Making Waves That Truly Matter

From backyard lessons to international reach, Glendy Herron teaches kids to swim with confidence.

In the heart of Roman Forest, Texas, a pool shimmers with purpose. It’s not just a place where children learn to swim—it’s where lives are being saved every single day. Behind it all is Glendy Herron, the passionate force behind Glendy’s WaterBabies, who has been teaching swim lessons for more than five decades. Her journey is more than a business—it’s a lifelong calling. Glendy’s story began at 13 when she met renowned coach Phil Hansel. By 16, she was teaching swim lessons at her parents’ pool after being fired from a city pool for teaching her own way. At 17, she was running the Humble City Pool and training others in her unique method. By 20, she had saved enough to build her own pool and launch her business full-time at her home. Her approach was simple: teach kids to swim safely, quickly, and with confidence. Lessons can begin as early as six months old with her famous “five days, 30 minutes a day” method that has helped thousands of children become competent swimmers, many within just 2.5 hours of instruction.

Glendy’s reach extends far beyond her backyard pool. Over the decades, she has taught children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, non-functioning limbs, hearing loss, brittle bones, and countless others from around the world—including families from Spain, Dubai, Hawaii, and beyond. Her reputation continues to grow, drawing celebrity children, athletes, and everyday kids alike. Many of her students have gone on to break high school and college swim records, and her son now carries on the legacy as a coach. Glendy was honored to attend the 1996 Olympic Games as a guest of the U.S. swim team coaches.

But Glendy’s mission goes far beyond swim lessons. “People are searching for cures for children’s diseases, but drowning is preventable,” she says. Across the nation, water-related incidents continue to be one of the top causes of serious injury among children, which is why water safety knowledge is imperative in today's world. Most happen in backyard or neighborhood pools, places that should feel safe.

Instead, she emphasizes true water independence. She also advises parents to secure backdoors with slide locks, lock and secure doggy doors, install cameras with phone alerts like Nest, and never rely on puddle jumpers. “They create false security,” she warns. It is also not a bad idea to have a long pole and fishnet near the pool to help rescue a child quietly slipping beneath the surface. “Drowning is silent,” she warns. “You rarely hear them fall in.”

Now at 72, Glendy has no plans to stop. She’s even joked about outfitting a walker with tennis balls and continuing from the poolside. “As long as I can move my arms and speak my instructions, I’ll keep teaching,”

she says, laughing. She recommends starting water safety awareness as early as February to help families prepare for spring. With every lesson, Glendy reinforces a message of prevention, presence, and purpose. “When God gives you something,” she says, “it never fails.” And for Glendy, that gift continues to ripple out, saving lives one child at a time.

Glendy has dedicated her life to saving others. Through her work, she’s empowered children and families with the tools they need to stay safe, confident, and strong in the water—and in life. Her legacy is not just one of swimming, but of courage, compassion, and community. To thousands of families, she’s more than a swim instructor—she’s a lifesaver in a swimsuit.

NEIGHBORS, NATURE, AND A LASTING VISION

The Spirit of Riverwalk

Nestled in the heart of Porter, Texas, Riverwalk stands as a testament to vision, thoughtful planning, and deep community pride. Established in January 1996, Riverwalk was more than just a development—it was the realization of a dream to create a neighborhood that balances space, freedom, and lasting value. While construction began before the first plot in Section 1 was officially recorded, January 8th marked the beginning of a community that would quickly become one of Montgomery County’s most desirable places to call home.

The name Riverwalk was thoughtfully chosen to reflect its proximity to the San Jacinto River, a natural backdrop to the neighborhood’s serene setting. Each street name honors a river, whether from the United States or abroad, reinforcing the theme of connection to nature. The original entrance featured an elegant water fountain displaying the community’s name, along with a manned gate that quickly became a beloved feature.

Developers James H. Wilkerson and Robert (Buddy) Williams envisioned more than just a neighborhood. They sought to create a space where homeowners could build their dream homes on spacious lots while maintaining sensible deed restrictions to protect long-term value. Their philosophy

was simple: a “common-sense deed-restricted community” that allowed flexibility without sacrificing quality. Unlike many developments, Riverwalk did not require residents to use a specific builder or adhere to uniform floor plans, allowing for personal expression and individuality.

Before development, the land was densely wooded with no lakes or canals. Recognizing the terrain’s potential, the developers engineered a water system that utilized the natural drop in elevation to create a scenic and functional water feature. Over the years, improvements have continued, including entrance upgrades and enhancements to the lake park, such as a playground, restrooms, and gated access, ensuring Riverwalk remains a welcoming and vibrant community.

Families in Riverwalk take great pride in shaping the neighborhood’s spirit, with many volunteering in the Property Owners Association (POA) to uphold the vision that first drew them in. A defining moment for the developers was seeing how quickly the first section sold out, affirming that their vision aligned with what homeowners were seeking.

Today, Riverwalk continues to attract new residents—not only for its beauty and custom-home flexibility but also for its financial advantages. With no city or MUD taxes, the neighborhood remains a highly appealing investment.

With its rich history, tranquil setting, and strong community ties, Riverwalk is more than just a neighborhood—it’s a place where dreams take root and flourish. It continues to be one of Montgomery County’s most sought-after communities, promising a future of warmth, belonging, and timeless charm.

Transforming Lives, One Step at a Time

The Avenue Church’s Mission in New Caney

Deep in the heart of New Caney, Texas, The Avenue Church thrives as a vibrant faith community dedicated to transformation and purpose. Founded in 2017 by Dave and Tara DiFrancesca, both lifelong ministers and children of pastors, the church was born from a calling to help people discover God and step into their divine purpose. As New Caney grew, Dave felt God’s prompting: “You build the church, I’ll build the city.” That powerful calling has shaped The Avenue into a place of connection, faith, and life change.

The Avenue Church guides people through a four-step faith journey: sharing Jesus to save the lost, discipling believers toward freedom, helping individuals discover their purpose, and encouraging them to make a difference. The congregation welcomes everyone, creating a diverse and unified environment where people from all backgrounds find acceptance and belonging. This commitment is especially evident in its vibrant youth ministry, where middle and high school students grow spiritually while forming lasting friendships.

Small groups are also a cornerstone of the church, ranging from Bible studies and discipleship classes to outreach and activity-based groups, ensuring there is a place for everyone to connect and grow.

Stories of transformation happen regularly: couples arriving feeling hopeless in their marriages discover renewed love and connection; individuals seeking meaning find joy, strength, and purpose in their faith. Yet, The Avenue’s impact reaches beyond its walls. It actively serves the community through meaningful outreach.

Partnering with The Dream Center, the church provides food and prayer for the homeless. Each winter, it collaborates with Mission Northeast on an expanding coat, blanket, and food drive. Their Angel Tree program brings joy to countless families, ensuring children and single mothers experience a Christmas filled with love and hope. Through these initiatives, The Avenue’s generosity continues to grow.

Worship at The Avenue is an integral part of its identity, led by a gifted and energetic team focused on keeping Jesus at the center. Above all, the church is committed to welcoming everyone with love and acceptance. “We want everyone who walks through our doors to know they are loved,” says Pastor Dave. “Jesus welcomes them as they are, and so do we. In five years, we believe we’ll see even greater things—more lives changed, more purpose realized, and a church that shines as a light in our city.”

The Avenue Church is more than just a place of worship—it’s a movement of faith, hope, and purpose. As New Caney grows, so does the church’s mission to help people embrace God’s calling. If you’re searching for a church to call home or eager to learn more about Jesus Christ, The Avenue Church welcomes you to step into a future full of promise.

They followed their roots and found magic— through foggy mornings, seaside cliffs, and warm Irish welcomes.

Rolling Hills, Guinness, and Irish Magic

ARTICLE BY STACY LEACH
PHOTOGRAPHY BY SHANE & HEATHER NICHOLS

If you’ve ever dreamed of rolling green hills, storybook towns, and sipping Guinness where it tastes like it was made by magic, you’re in good company. Shane and Heather, a Texas couple with a passion for travel and a pinch of Irish ancestry, turned their bucket list trip into the kind of adventure the rest of us can only daydream about during our lunch breaks.

From the moment their plane touched down in Dublin’s cool, crisp air (a miracle in itself coming from Texas heat), Shane and Heather knew they were in for something special. The cobbled streets, ancient castles, and kind-hearted locals welcomed them like family, which, according to their 23andMe results, might not be far from the truth.

Their journey was packed with unforgettable moments: kissing the Blarney Stone (yes, upside down and full of courage), strolling through the Titanic Museum, and joining locals for a pint at one of the oldest pubs in the country. They took a black taxi tour through Belfast’s rich and emotional history and even discovered that Gaelic is still alive and well, often spoken in tandem with English, even during hilariously offkey Irish renditions of American country songs on TV.

Driving was another story entirely. Heather describes the experience of navigating narrow cliffside roads and sharing one-lane paths with trucks as “terrifying, but totally worth it.” Shane, naturally, handled it with the calm of a seasoned adventurer… or so he’d probably like us to believe.

Their favorite stop? The seaside village of Dingle, with its colorful buildings, laid-back charm, and dramatic views where green hills meet ocean cliffs. The Slea Head Drive, a 30-mile loop of pure magic, offered countless moments for reflection, wonder, and yes—baby sheep cuddles. Because what’s an Irish road trip without feeding goats, donkeys, and holding a lamb on a hill that feels like it came straight from a postcard?

Of course, no adventure is complete without unforgettable eats. Shane still dreams about the fish and chips at McDonagh’s in Galway, while Heather swoons over the hearty Irish breakfasts—farm-fresh eggs, black and white pudding, and tea so good it could change your whole morning routine.

But beyond the sights, the food, and the jaw-dropping views, it was the people who made Ireland feel like home. After striking up a conversation with a pub owner near Blarney Castle, he smiled at their shared heritage and said simply, “Well, welcome home, the two of ya’s.” That moment stuck.

Would they go back? In a heartbeat. But next time, they’ll slow down—maybe stay in just two cities and truly soak it all in. Until then, they’re sharing their story so others can picture the painted doors, breathe the salty sea air, and maybe, just maybe, start planning their own Irish escape.
