REMEMBERING PERSEVERANCE Spruill Gallery and the Spruill Center for the Arts announced Amplify: Spruill’s Annual Outdoor Art Installation. This installation is the first of an annual award given by Spruill that promotes local, Georgian, and national artists. This year’s winning entry was created by local artist Christopher Michaels. His mural, titled Find Your Wings, is full of contrast and color and also has a story that resonates within the Dunwoody community. Find Your Wings is an homage to his wife, Amanda and her recovery from being struck in a crosswalk by a distracted driver on her way back from Dunwoody’s Lemonade Days. As an avid runner prior to her accident, Amanda’s injuries were so severe her doctors said she may never walk unassisted again. After weeks in the hospital and multiple surgeries Amanda was immobilized for months as her body tried to heal. Eighteen months after her accident she completed her first 5K here in Dunwoody, one strenuous step at a time. A limited-edition print run of the final work will be available for purchase at the Spruill Gallery SpruillGallery.myshopify.com. spruillarts.org.
NATURE CENTER ON ETSY The Dunwoody Nature Center is excited to announce a partnership with the Dunwoody Fine Art Association to launch the Dunwoody Nature Artist Market on Etsy. They offered the most honest and realistic assessment of the house and guided the process throughout. Real professionals!! With so many realtors in Atlanta, it is hard to find a real good one. Window fashions to match every design personality. SOK: DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE HOLIDAY MOVIE OR CHRISTMAS SONG? JDH: I saw “A Christmas Story” in the theater in 1983 when it was released. I wore glasses and had the same blonde hair as Ralphie. My friends that were with me were rolling in the floor laughing the entire movie because Peter Billingsley looked so much like me. It’s such an incredible movie! I’m basically Ralphie! I think my favorite line was delivered by Darren McGavin when his

leg lamp was destroyed. Exasperated and incredibly angry, he yelled “Not a finger!” All of the Andy Williams Christmas songs are amazing and his voice is like none other. I think my favorite track of his has to be “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year.” The groove and the swing on that tune is so incredible! If I could, I would invite Andy Williams, Burl Ives and Jimmy Stewart to a holiday party. I’m a sucker for the classics!

Callanwolde is so good at decorating for the holidays. They have a giant tree in the center of the house that is immaculate. It has traditionally been a great way to start the Christmas Season, and I will miss it this year. We are frantically looking for a place to perform safely this year. We need to be outdoors and you really never know what the temperature will be in December in Georgia: could be 30 degrees, could be 70 degrees. Whether we

Juliet Designs Home was established in 2015. Julie’s love of home decor transformed her business from decorating for her friends and renovating her own home to interior design and opening up her home decor shop in Canton as well as an online store. She finds joy in curating home decor that brings warmth and comfort to a room. For this holiday issue, Julie decorated the most important rooms: the family room, dining room, kitchen and her guest carriage house. Most of these stunning products are available in her shop at Cotton Mill Exchange in Canton and at her online store. “My team and I choose to work with Julie because of her years of experience in the home decor and design industry, as well as her love and passion for home decorating. She has the ability to turn a dull room or home into one that is inviting,” says Mary Ellen. “We love her style and decor because she is up to date with the latest trends and brings a feeling of warmth and comfort to a room while reflecting the personality of her clients.”

Friends Foundation’s unwavering mission has been to find a cure for pediatric brain tumors by funding groundbreaking therapies and research. The Atlanta-based organization has always supported labs across the globe, but today has expanded operations by opening a chapter in Los Angeles to further educate donors, doctors and patients on the cause. Ian’s Friends Foundation was founded in 2006 by Atlantans Phil and Cheryl Yagoda after their son, Ian, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at the age of two. They started IFF to fill the void of the lack of pediatric research available for their son and the approximately 35,000 children living with brain tumors. In 2018, the Yagoda’s were introduced to Sydney and Joey Meller, when their daughter Charley was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Inspired by the Yagoda’s drive and determination to turn heartbreak into action, the Meller’s quickly came on board to become the leaders of the the Los Angeles chapter of IFF. “Children with brain tumors do not always have the luxury of time, and there is an immediate need for groundbreaking research so more children will survive this disease. When our daughter was diagnosed, we knew we needed to do more”, said Sydney Meller. “We were in awe of the impact IFF was having on the road to a cure and we wanted to become a part of the fight. Los Angeles is a compassionate, philanthropic city and we are excited by the challenge of igniting additional support to help our must vulnerable.” Since 2006, Ian’s Friends Foundation has raised more than $15 million to fund 28 ground-breaking research projects at 19 world-renowned U.S. institutions, including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, NYU, Cornell, Johns Hopkins University, Emory University, Duke University, and the

University of Pittsburgh to name a few. This funding leads to unique partnerships with world-renowned healthcare institutions and novel research that is unlikely to receive funding through other channels. “There is nothing worse as a parent than being told your child has a brain tumor and there is no cure. All of the too many parents with children suffering from this disease have formed a beautiful, nation-wide community,” says Phil Yagoda, Founder of IFF. “Without community support, none of our research projects would get off the ground. We look forward to the growth the Los Angeles chapter of IFF will bring as we raise awareness and funding to cure pediatric brain tumors.” To find out more or to make a donation, visit IansFriendsFoundation.org. WHAT BEGAN AS A SINGLE MOM AND POP CHRISTMAS TREE LOT HAS GROWN TO BE ATLANTA’S ONLY FULL SERVICE HOLIDAY STAPLE. Tradition Co. strings your outdoor lights, delivers and sets up your tree, hangs a wreath on your door, puts a log in your fireplace and does it all in the spirit of Christmas. “Christmas is first and foremost a season of giving,” says Matt Bowman, CEO of Tradition Co., “so we are honored to give a portion of our profits to Atlanta charities.” Since branding as Tradition Trees in 2006, Bowman’s company has donated more than $50,000 to local non-profits, including the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Winship Cancer Institute and many others. The giving doesn’t stop there. Tradition takes donations from customers to cover the costs associated with delivering trees to worthy Atlanta families that can’t afford a Christmas tree. And it can all be done online. And this year, Tradition Company is partnering with Perimeter North Lifestyle magazine to support Giving Kitchen. One lucky reader who contributes to Giving Kitchen (at bit.ly/iloveGK, by December 11) will win a COVID-friendly Christmas experience. A fresh tree, between 6-8 feet in height, will be delivered and set up by appointment before December 21, and taken down by appointment between December 26 - January 12. Plus, dinner delivered from Botica Restaurant (up to $400). Continuing the chill theme, Taste & Tenacity will provide two hours of holiday shopping for the winner (who is responsible for the cost of the purchases). Purchases will be delivered, unwrapped, to the winner’s home or office. All benefitting Giving Kitchen, a grassroots organization that provides emergency assistance to food service workers through financial support and a network of community resources. The giveaway was the brainchild of Tradition Co. “Time is everyone’s most valuable resource, so we developed our services with that in mind,” Bowman says. “We source high quality products and back them up with white-glove service. All of our products are available for delivery at our client’s convenience, whether it’s a premium Christmas tree, well-seasoned firewood, or a garden bed.” Bowman specializes in home and property services including landscaping, pressure washing, junk removal, and housekeeping. The car wash has a mobile service that will detail cars at your homes or offices. Go to bit.ly/iloveGK to make a donation and you’ll be automatically entered to win one of two trees donated by Tradition Co for Lifestyle Publications readers. bullet journaling 101 ARTICLE NICOLETTE MARTIN

Let’s face it—in today’s so-much-to-do-and-so-little-time cultural mindset, it
can be hard to keep track of everything we need to do. Wake up—did you get enough sleep? Brush your teeth. Feed the kids. Feed the dog. Get ready for work. Make your lunch. Those are just six things to think about in the span of 15 minutes after your alarm goes off.
With all of these things to keep track of and our lives moving a mile a minute,
anything we can find to streamline our obligations (and our thoughts) can be a lifesaver! Enter: bullet journaling. It’s equal parts calendar, meal tracker, diary, self care and, well, really anything else that you want to keep tabs on! The “mindfulness practice disguised as a productivity system,” coined by creator Ryder Carroll, can help you master the art of intentional living—any way you want to.
