e had a blast shooting this month's feature, "Givers," beautiful portraits by Fredrik Brauer of four people from the community who make giving a priority. Our Givers arrived at the lovely Westin Atlanta Perimeter North (Concourse Parkway) and were greeted by the friendly staff who swept us all off our feet, up to the 2-story suite overlooking the little lake and impressive buildings around the Concourse. Savor Bar + Kitchen sent up pastries, fresh fruit, juices coffee and tea (I drank three cups) and we all had a chance to chat during hair and make-up. COLOUR is a new Atlanta-based startup that FREDRIK BRAUER has just launched with a lofty vision: All Women. All Hair. Equally beautiful. COLOUR is like Uber for hair. The free app enables men and women to get their hair done when they want, where they want, with a team of vetted stylists. It's like having a stylist on retainer. And the best part...They come to your home or office! We love that idea. The Beauty Bar of Alpharetta provided full make-up for our "models" and Danielle Johnson polished the faces that grace this month's pages. To top off the morning, Shane Co brought a spread of jewelry for our GIVERS to choose from to wear for their portrait. I'm pretty sure Shane Co gained a few new customers, based on the ooohing and aaahing over the diamonds and gemstone pieces they shared. We're so honored that all these generous people shared their morning and their stories with us. We hope you're inspired to give of your time and resources this holiday season, working to make our community stronger in some way.

As part of National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance hosted its annual “Teal Trot” 5K at Piedmont Park to honor local patients, survivors and supporters on September 10. DELTA MAKES MUSIC Delta Air Lines Foundation has pledged to make a $2.5 million contribution to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Musicians’ Endowment Fund, helping the Orchestra reach an ambitious $25 million goal to permanently endow 11 musician positions in the Orchestra. The Delta Air Lines Foundation gift completes the Musicians’ Endowment Campaign nearly two years ahead of schedule. The Orchestra committed to increasing endowment funding to restore 11 positions to the Orchestra by 2018. To date, more than $25 million in funds have been committed to the Musicians’ Endowment Fund and nine musicians have joined the Orchestra over the past year. The two newest members

is the time to treat yourself or let someone treat you. At some point, everyone needs to upgrade her handbag and these below, are a great selection to add to your arsenal!
I LOVE a handbag! As a personal stylist, I see a lot of handbags and that’s a lot of temptation! For me, no matter how amazing a certain handbag might be, it has to work for ME, especially when we are talking about investment bags. My main criteria for a great handbag would be functionality, style (shoulder, cross-body, etc) and fabrication (if it’s leather it better be buttery soft). Details are always a game changer for me. I love a bag with mixed media like shearling and leather or like the Monili trim on a Cucinelli bag, or a pinch of print like the Dior. A great handbag can't be so big you that you lose your keys, but it also can't be so small you can't fit your basic stuff in it as well. Cross-body bags are one of my faves because I can be hands-free (much needed when traveling and working! ). But, I love all kinds for different reasons. For example, I gotta have my "Boss Lady" bag for big meetings, my "I won't die if my toddler writes on this bag,” evening bag and a good tote that I'm ok with having to put on the floor of an airplane. Handbags are definitely a personal choice but these are some of my favorite bags from this season. 16

Cheryl Yagoda Cheryl Yagoda is an Atlanta native and graduate of Syracuse University. Upon
graduating
from
Syracuse,
Cheryl moved to New York to work for Bear Stearns Company before meeting her husband, Phil Yagoda. Today, the Yagodas have three children, 16-year-old twins Arly and Sophie and Ian, their 12-year-old son who was diagnosed with an inoperable lesion on his brainstem nearly ten years ago. Desperate to find a cure for Ian and shocked by the lack of research in the field of pediatric brain tumors, Cheryl and Phil co-founded the nonprofit, Ian’s Friends Foundation (IFF). Every day, nine children are diagnosed with a brain tumor. The mission of IFF is to support initiatives at leading research institutions that focus on developing new treatments for pediatric brain tumors. Today, IFF works with ten leading research facilities including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Dana Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center among others on projects designed to one day find a cure. Their 9th annual Evening of Inspiration lit up the Intercontinental Hotel in Buckhead last month.

Doug Barron Doug Barron is not your typical ovarian cancer awareness advocate. His mother-in-law lost her battle with the disease in 2007 and he decided he had to do something to honor and remember her. In 2008, along with his wife, Heidi, he joined the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA) and in 2009 became Board Vice President. His commitment to ovarian cancer awareness led him to becoming Executive Director in January 2010. His business experience, relationship development, and passion has grown GOCA to be recognized as one of the premier ovarian cancer education and awareness organizations in the country. He is dedicated to the founding members’

increasing

Amy Rubin The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) is very proud to acknowledge Amy Rubin’s long-term commitment to the agency. She and her husband, Philip, founded the Harvey Rubin Scholarship Award in 2002 in memory of Philip’s father. This merit-based scholarship award recognizes the outstanding leadership of a high school senior in the Atlanta Jewish community. Contact a driving service or have a designated driver take you home rather than risk being arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). A DUI is a white elephant gift no one will want. In 1885, Moses Winlock “Lockie” Pearson and his wife, Cornelia Emory “Emma”, moved to Fort Valley, Georgia and planted the first peach trees for the Pearson family.
