LIFESTYLE LETTER
Welcome Autumn! October brings such cozy moments and delectable enchantments. With our Food & Drink issue arrives a magical lineup of passionate hosts, divine tastes, and gifted offerings. It would be hard to get more tantalizing than this! My favorite element amidst a well thought-out meal is the company it brings. Parker Garage owners, Brent Walker and Todd Simons share about the treasure of not only their longstanding friendship, but the relationships they prioritize with their clients, employees, and customers. From the way they source their food to the art they put on the walls, and the wine and cocktails they serve, it’s all about the magic of relationships and connection. It’s the way Venalonzo’s Tacos realized the potential of their business by simply sharing a warm quesadilla with a neighbor. It’s the nostalgia S’mores Time recreates of sitting around a campfire enjoying sticky, melty s’mores with loved ones. From Fiesta Parker (which our team so enjoyed attending, hence the photo above) to Ellie’s Fusions, these are the sweet and savory delicacies of life, culture, and sharing an experience with others. And of course, we couldn’t let the spooky sweet treats of Halloween get overlooked. Emma Cahill shares her culinary adventures in the kitchen making A Spooky Candy Bark! It’s a packed issue! We also continue our Meet Your Neighbor series with Brandi Wilks. A member of town council and a small business owner, her heart is one to fill the season with passion, care, and kindness. We also get to know the Mountain Pine Woman’s Club and all the good they do through their volunteer program. We hope this issue dazzles your taste buds and inspires you to gather your loved ones together for a warm meal and dessert to follow!

A Restaurant FOUNDED IN Family And COMMUNITY From Sunday Dinners To AwardWinning Tacos, Venalonzo's Offers Parker A Seat At Their Family's Table ARTICLE BY KRISTEN GONZALES PHOTOGRAPHY BY ABBY WATKINS
It started with Sunday dinners. Nati Venalonzo began making quesadillas and sharing them with her Parker neighbors. The rest, as they say, is history. Renting a house with multiple family members right off Mainstreet, Nati says, “I started cooking quesadillas on the weekend, and I grew the zucchini on the patio, and they got big with a lot of flowers. My neighbor said, ‘What are you doing cutting those flowers?’ and I said, ‘I’m making quesadillas.’” Before long, she offered them to the neighbors. “I said, ‘Do you want to try my quesadillas?’ They [the neighbors] said, ‘This is amazing and so delicious!’” Together, the family started making more food, like tamales, tacos, and burritos, and selling it around town. It was hard work, but quickly became a family affair. “Everyone [in the family] was doing it,” Michelle, Nati’s daughter, chimes in. “It was like an assembly line.” It would take years of food trucks and other jobs until, in 2022, Nati would suggest to Pako, a longtime chef and one of Nati’s 14 siblings, that they should try opening a restaurant. Together, they came up with Venalonzo’s Tacos to honor their family name. Lana Paggen, Operations Manager, Nati’s longtime friend, and Pako’s wife, shares, “We believe restaurants have the power to build community one meal at a time.” And so Venalonzo’s did just that with the soft opening of their first restaurant in Centennial on Father’s Day in 2022.

“On Father’s Day, my uncle was like, everyone come to the restaurant, and I’m gonna make everybody breakfast,” Michelle explains. “So everybody’s at the table eating, and then people start walking by because we obviously left the door open…we’re like, come sit down and give us your opinion. So that was like our soft opening.” It wouldn’t be until the next week that they opened for real, but those people ended up choosing the top salsas they use today. Nati laughs, “I had 5 stars on Google before I opened!”

Now, with the Parker location, which opened in November of 2025, and their newest location in Lone Tree, Venalonzo’s is creating a space built on tradition and family. Lana puts it perfectly when she says, “As we continue to grow, one thing will never change: our commitment to serving authentic, scratch-made Mexican cuisine with integrity, investing in the communities that have invested in us, and treating every guest like family.” The community’s love for Venalonzo’s is showcased by the accolades the restaurant has received. They were named best birria tacos by Westword Magazine’s readers and Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in Denver. In addition, Nati won a Who’s Who award for her work in the community. Unable to attend high school herself, Nati works to pay it forward for kids, ensuring everyone has a chance at an education. They recently sponsored a ladies’ night out for the non-profit organization, Shield Our Schools, which raises money for additional school security. Michelle explains, “When people come in and need a food donation, we always try to do it. My mom always says, ‘When I needed help, I always found someone, and I told myself that when someone came to me that needed help, I was going to be there.’” Proud members of the Parker Chamber of Commerce and serving on the Latin Committee, Venalonzo’s Tacos recently participated in the inaugural Fiesta Parker event celebrating Latin culture within the Parker community. “Watching families from every background gather to celebrate food, music, culture, and community reminded us exactly why we love calling Parker home,” Lana says. Coming to another country and seeking better opportunities in the wake of her father’s tragic death forced Nati, who was only a teenager at the time, to grow up quickly. Despite facing many difficult situations, she discovered how passion, creativity, talent, hard work, faith, and, most importantly, family can help someone persevere through anything. For the Parker community, our taste buds and hearts are forever grateful that Venalonzo’s has welcomed everyone so graciously to their family’s table.

Lana Paggen, Venalonzo's Operations Manager, says, "As a brother and sister duo, we founded Venalonzo's with one simple goal: to create a place where people could gather around authentic Mexican food made the right way. Our scratch kitchen is the heart of everything we do. Every salsa, every sauce, every batch of our award-winning birria is handcrafted from fresh ingredients using recipes inspired by our family's heritage and prepared under the direction of our award-winning chef. We believe extraordinary food isn't created by shortcuts. It's created through passion, patience, and the pride of serving something you'd place on your own family's table."

Ellie's Fusions Sells Unique Gourmet Olive Oils and Vinegars
Mainstreet’s Hidden Treasure I couldn’t help but notice the new Ellie’s Fusions floral sign swinging in the breeze as I walked down historic Mainstreet and through the quaint French doors into a culinary delight. Tall, shiny spouted canisters lined the shelves, offering a wide variety of custom olive oils and balsamic vinegars, including Chimichurri Verde Oil, Portuguese Lemon Oil, Rosemary and Olive Smoked oils, Peach White Balsamic, Coconut White Balsamic, Pomegranate Balsamic, and other robust flavors unique to owner Lynae Walker’s storefront. “I order these products directly from my vendor, Veronica Foods, in Tanzania. They work with smaller producers in that region,” Lynae says. The purity is unmatched in a largely unregulated olive oil industry.

business was born out of that motivation. Just visit her exceptional store, and you will experience that as she guides you through it. Each oil and vinegar is fresh from the tap and slowly poured into one of her tall-necked green bottles, which you can refill later at a discount. Ellie’s also stocks custom spice blends, body products, and other gift options. Come in and enjoy the shopping experience at Ellie’s. “Whether you’re here for the health tips, the inspiration, or the magic of intentional nourishment, you belong at this table,” Lynae says. Visit elliesfusions.com to find out more about this extraordinary business.
Lynae in her store.
“I purchase both infused and fused products. Fused means that the olives and lemons, for example, are crushed together. Infused ones are made with an olive oil base and added ingredients like garlic and other botanicals. The flavors of the infused are extracted into the oil base,” she explains. Balsamics are produced in the same way. Lynae promotes her products for cooking and also for the health benefits, which include heart health, inflammation, digestion, skin, and mental health. Lynae has been trained in Functional Nutrition, which serves her clients well. Customers are encouraged to sample the many options as she explains the origins and benefits of the oils and vinegars. I would have never guessed that soft-spoken Lynae’s career journey has been as varied as her products. She has been a helicopter pilot and has worked in banking, emergency veterinary medicine, legal mediation for the vulnerable, and functional nutrition. She is now a small-business owner! “This is the most fun for me because I don’t have to follow any medical or legal protocol. This is mine, and I can create and design things. I can also help people, which is the best part of it all,” she shares. Her desire to serve and care for people runs through her entire career, and her
Lynae custom makes the body products.

ORIGINAL LANDSCAPE AND ABSTRACT PAINTINGS BY DAVE REITER
The Story Behind the Painting: While walking through the Arboretum & Botanical Gardens in Overland Park, Kansas, I found myself in the Dickinson Garden early in the morning. I loved the shadows as they moved along my walking path. They seemed to add to the contemplative experience invoked by the garden’s beauty. The park benches scattered along the path enhanced the sense of calm and reflection. As I was painting this piece, my goal was to capture the same emotions I had felt during that peaceful time in the gardens.

PA R K E R G A R AGE THE MAGIC OF RELATIONSHIPS THAT COME FULL CIRCLE
ARTICLE BY CASSANDRA GREEN PHOTOGRAPHY BY ABBY WATKINS

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | FO OD + BE VE RAGE
When a business is based on relationships, you can feel a heartbeat of care and hospitality at its core. Parker Garage business owners, Brent Walker and Todd Simons, have taken intentional steps to “honor the past, elevate the present, and serve the community with authenticity and pride.” Over the summer, they renovated Parker Garage in order to modernize and ensure that every space could be open to connection and next-level service.
Brent and Todd have been friends for more than 25 years. When the opportunity opened up in October 2025 for Todd and his wife Antoinette to buy 50% ownership of Parker Garage, their story came full circle. This gave both owners an opportunity to dream forward and continue what Brent and his wife, Meghan, have been building since 2013. By updating their event space, adding all-new booth seating, putting fresh paint on the walls, and sourcing consistent artwork throughout the space, Brent and Todd selectively established their “premium, but casual, come as you are” atmosphere. Now they can host larger events, parties, celebrations, and gatherings alike, along with catering services. Brent says, “We’re not fine dining, but we take our dining very seriously. From a food standpoint, we really care a lot about the product of what we purchase. We prep everything ourselves, so it’s all made in-house. That turns into a great finished product. We source really heavily on products, and make decisions that we feel fit the message that we get from the clients as well as our own love of food and dining.” With the summer’s renovation, they highlight their partnership with good friends, Jesse Katz and his father, Andy Katz. Brent shares, “Jesse just won winemaker of the year. His winery’s in Alexander Valley, and it’s called Aperture Cellars. Aperture represents the lens of a camera. All the pictures you see in this room are from his dad, Andy Katz Photography. We’ve been long friends. We used to go to Andy’s house in Sonoma. We took him on trips, so we got to be good friends with Jesse as he was getting started. This wine
he makes just for us.” Sure enough, Brett holds a wine bottle in his hand with Parker Garage’s old building front on it. He continues, “We look to find unique products. I use the word relationship a lot in the restaurant because it’s tied to your employees, to each other, to the whole experience with the customer. It becomes this interactive living relationship. We look at the menu that way. It’s a living, breathing document. We’re always looking for ways to make it better, and we’ll never stop that exploration because we think there’s always new cool things out there that need to be found, and we like sharing those with the customer. We decided to partner with Jesse and Andy on all this artwork and the wine to really give it a modern cultural feel that is consistent.” Todd shares, “The excitement is that you know you’re going in the right direction. You’re walking down the right path. With two visions that are very aligned, we’re taking the restaurant to another level of business; for the community, for Mainstreet, to create memories.”

IT’S ALWAYS S’MORES TIME The Founders of S’mores Time, Jennifer and Richard De La Rosa, Bring Nostalgia and Community to Colorado
ARTICLE BY CASSIDY RITTER PHOTOGRAPHY BY ABBY WATKINS

C ULIN A RY C R E AT ION S | F OOD + BE VE RAGE
It doesn’t get much better than sitting around a campfire, roasting (or burning) a marshmallow, slapping it on top of a piece of chocolate, and sandwiching it between two graham crackers. For Jennifer De La Rosa, it’s always time for a s’more. “I know it sounds so basic, but there is just something about sitting around a fire and the feeling of sitting around
a campfire, roasting a s’more; it takes you back to your childhood,” Jennifer says. She and her husband, Richard De La Rosa, wanted to bring this nostalgic treat to the public. In November 2025, they launched S’mores Time, a Parker-based business specializing in pre-packaged, ready-to-roast s’mores kits, and fire pit rentals. People across Colorado can now rent between one and 20 fire pits from S’mores Time for parties, neighborhood gatherings, corporate events, markets, and more. Rentals start at $350. The best part? The De La Rosas take care of the set up and tear down. They have benches for people to sit on around the fire and loaner blankets for colder get-togethers. “We bring the event to the event,” Richard says. “That’s our motto. And we always say that we will work with anyone’s budget as long as it’s reasonable.” People can also order pre-packaged s’mores kits. Each $10 kit comes with supplies to make two s’mores, including skewers. Customers choose between Hershey’s chocolate, a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, or vegan chocolate. Gluten-free options are available, too.
The idea for S’mores Time may have stemmed from Jennifer’s childhood memories, but its goal is to bring families, friends, and neighbors together to create long-lasting memories and give back to the community. “We are all about giving back, small or large, whatever we can do within our capacity,” Jennifer says. Jennifer and Richard partnered with Dads of Parker last year, donating $3,500 worth of food to Heart2Hand, and recently took donations to families impacted by the Aspen Acres Fire. You can catch S’mores Time in action each Saturday in October at Parker Station in downtown Parker and on November 27 at the Mayor’s Holiday Lighting in Parker. S’mores Time will also set up at Chatfield Farms every day from November 21 to January 3. It’s partnering with Gum Pop to offer s’mores at Bazaar markets throughout the metro, too. Rentals and pre-orders can be made through Instagram (@smores.time) or by contacting Jennifer and Richard at smorestimeparkerco@gmail.com or 310-951-3675. OCTOB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . BRANDI WILKS PARKER TOWN COUNCILMEMBER, SMALL BUSINESS OWNER, WILKS REAL ESTATE COULD YOU PLEASE SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF?
I’m a third-generation Parker native, and that has shaped so much of who I am. My roots here run deep. I grew up knowing Parker as a small, close-knit town, and I’ve had the unique opportunity to watch it evolve while still holding onto the things that make it feel like home. I’m a mom of four and a small business owner, and both of those roles have shaped the way I see the world. Owning a small

business has given me an even greater appreciation for what it takes to take a chance, build something from the ground up, and invest your time and energy into something you believe in. I care deeply about where Parker is going because this is where I’ve chosen to build my life as well. I believe in showing up, getting involved, and being willing to roll up your sleeves when there is something worth doing. At the end of the day, I’m incredibly grateful to have always called Parker home, and I don’t take that for granted.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT?
I’m most passionate about making a positive impact and turning good ideas into something real. I’ve always believed that if you have the ability to make something better, you should try. For me, that means looking at a challenge and asking, “What can we actually do about this?” I love seeing an idea move from a conversation to something tangible that makes a difference. What motivates me most is knowing that the things we do today can have an
impact long after we’re done doing them. I don’t need everything to have my name on it, and I don’t need to be the person who gets the credit. I just want to know that I contributed something meaningful. To me, there’s no better way to spend your time than doing something that leaves a lasting positive mark.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT PARKER?
I think Parker is a rare find. We have created this unique little bubble where you can have incredible amenities,
“I hope we choose to celebrate more, assume the best in each other, and remember that we have far more in common than we sometimes realize.”
opportunities, and access to everything you could want, while still feeling like you’re somewhere a little more special. I see that every day through my real estate business. I meet people who have researched communities all over the area, and once they experience Parker, they say, “This is where we want to be.” I see families planning, moving, strategizing their budgets, and doing whatever they can to make Parker their home. And I think that says something. When people who have no roots here are willing to work so hard to put down roots here, you know there is something special about this place. I think part of that is the feeling people have when they’re here. They want a place where their kids can grow up, where they can know their neighbors, and where they can feel secure. Growing up here, I think it would be easy to take some of that for granted. But my real estate business has given me the opportunity to see Parker through the eyes of people discovering it for the first time, while my work on Town Council has given me an even deeper appreciation for what it takes to protect the quality of life we have here. Those
two perspectives constantly remind me just how special this place is.
WHAT IS YOUR WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FOR OUR COMMUNITY?
Most importantly, I hope we remember to enjoy each other. We can disagree, come from different backgrounds, and have completely different perspectives while still choosing to be part of the same community. We don’t have to see everything the same way to appreciate one another, and I think there is something powerful about remembering that. Life moves incredibly fast, and sometimes we get so caught up in what’s next, what’s wrong, or what we disagree about that we miss what’s happening right in front of us. There is so much good happening around us, and I think sometimes we just need to slow down long enough to see it and to see each other. I hope we choose to celebrate more, assume the best in each other, and remember that we have far more in common than we sometimes realize. At the end of the day, we’re all just trying to build a good life, and there’s something pretty wonderful about doing that together.

FIESTA PARKER FE ATURES
Our Latin Culture The Inaugural Fiesta Parker Event Celebrated Latin Culture with Food, Music, Festivities, and More

The Mariachi Las Dahlias stands in the shade of Parker Station, delighting the crowd lined up to enter the first-ever Fiesta Parker. An enormous marquee lists different entry fees and what’s in store. Wristbands are distributed, IDs are checked, and a stroll to the first tent means a wheel spin for prizes. A spectacular day was in store. The beauty of Latin culture surrounds us in our amazing town. August’s Fiesta Parker celebration promised a day inspired by Mexico, Spain, Central and South American countries, and it did not disappoint. Hosted by the newly formed Parker Latino Business Committee, Fiesta Parker brought the spirit of Latin culture to our community and watched it thrive. As the late-summer sun beat down, Chamber members greeted participants with Fiesta Parker fans, while cooling towels or sunglasses were won at nearby booths. The fenced-off section of the Parker Station parking lot featured local restaurants and businesses, as well as ornate jewelry, hats, and beautiful, flamboyantly designed dresses. Bystanders wandered the area, speaking to owners, taste-testing Tajín, and purchasing whatever they could fit in their bags. It was a one-stop shop featuring the eclectic brilliance of Latin culture. Shopping is always more fun if you can move your hips to the music of local Latin bands like iZCalli, Banda Rockera La Negra, Chimbangle Band, and DJ Jorge Cruz. Each musician graced the stage throughout the afternoon, along with patrons celebrating along to the Zumba and Peruvian dancers. Parker residents watched the delightfully entertaining Hugo’s Lucha Libre, a style of professional wrestling originating in Mexico. Wrestlers adorned with colorful masks took on their opponents in an acrobatic fight with cheers and jeers for high-flying jumps and hits. As delicious food trucks and drink tents lined the outskirts, this family-oriented celebration also showcased multiple bounce houses and cornhole boards. Even the mid-afternoon rain shower couldn’t shake the revelry, as everyone gathered together under tents to laugh and embrace the beautiful Latin culture at the heart of Parker. Next year’s fiesta event can’t come soon enough.

Inspiring Purpose, Meaning, and Connection Mark Your Calendar for this Year's Annual Yuletide Bazaar With The Mountain Pine Woman’s Club “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead Ginger Ripplinger, president of the Mountain Pine Woman’s Club (MPWC), and Terri Molther, fundraising chair for MPWC, are passionate about inspiring purpose, meaning, and connection through their volunteer commitment. Ginger is also the president of the Peaks District, which includes five clubs in the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC). The GFWC was founded in 1890 and has been a powerful resource of volunteers that have impacted communities both nationally and internationally. With longstanding historical influence, the MPWC received its certificate from the GFWC and has been empowering communities since 1895. Ginger shares, “What GFWC actually does is we look in our communities, and we decide how we can volunteer to improve them. Each club has different focuses. There are five service areas: Arts and Culture, Health and Wellness, Libraries and Education, Environment, and Civic Engagement. We also focus on domestic violence awareness and children’s advocacy, so from the very beginning that’s what we did.” “With the MPWC, we looked around our specific area, and we decided we want to focus on college scholarships for people in Douglas

County and some surrounding boundaries. We also give donations to the shelters, veterans, Parker Task Force, SECOR, and Wellspring Community, just to name a few.” Terri adds, “We do some big organizations, but we also try to focus on smaller organizations that aren’t able to raise money for themselves. We support places like Heart2Hand and the Gabriel Foundation.” MPWC is a growing group of volunteers that organizes different volunteer opportunities all around the community. With a flexible system, you can volunteer once a year or come to every single meeting. It really is based on your interest and availability! They also meet every other week for Sip and Sits at Kneaders. Their biggest fundraiser of the year is the Annual Yuletide Bazaar. Terri takes charge of organizing the festivities involved. She shares, “The Annual Yuletide Bazaar is our biggest fundraiser of the year. This will be our 20th year, and we are very excited!
We have over 100 vendors. From crafters to direct-sale businesses to financial services and baked goods. It’s a bazaar with lots of different things! We’re going to have Santa and Mrs. Claus take pictures with the kids for free as well. The club puts on a bake sale, and this year we are doing something a little bit different. We are decorating 6’ Christmas trees with handmade ornaments that the club is making. And then if you make a donation to one of the nonprofits that we have chosen, you get to pick a free ornament off a tree. We also have a booth where the MPWC members share their items. Ginger loves to knit. I make wreaths, so I bring my wreaths. Karen, another member, makes wreaths and arrangements. So, everybody contributes, and we sell all kinds of stuff. In addition, we have 12 little Christmas trees that 12 members have taken. They are decorating them with different themes, and then we’re going to sell them!” The Annual Yuletide Bazaar is a packed event with incredible impact. It funds the MPWC’s scholarship and volunteer programs. Ginger says, “The biggest thing I love to do is when we hand out the scholarships. To me, it’s the difference between kids succeeding or not; it’s someone believing in them. And then I look at the other ladies in the club. They’re amazing human beings! We all come to the same room for the same purpose. We want to help people. We want to make a difference. So, there’s this energy. It’s like we’re a force of nature.” Mark your calendars for the Annual Yuletide Bazaar at the Parker Field House, Saturday, November 14th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you would like to volunteer with the MPWC, visit www.mpwcparker.org.

A Spooky Candy Bark
That Anyone Can Make!
My name is Emma and I am 11 years old. I love to be independent in the kitchen. This recipe is a great way to use leftover Halloween candy and make it your own. You can also easily find spooky ingredients at your local grocery store. You can effortlessly make this Halloween-themed recipe on your own with minimal adult supervision. The main step where you need a grown-up is melting the chocolate because the bowl can get super-duper hot! My favorite ingredients to use are candy corn, Halloweenthemed sprinkles, pretzels, and candy eyeballs to ensure it is Halloween approved. I also drizzle white chocolate over the top, because who doesn’t like more sugar! I love using this recipe at my friend’s Halloween party. It’s a big hit for everyone! Everybody is able to choose what piece of bark they want, depending on their super sweet candy taste. This can also be a great party activity where everyone can customize their own mini bark. I hope you will give this hauntingly delicious recipe a try and that you love it just as much as I do!

DIRECTIONS: Line a small baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the milk or semisweet chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring each time, until completely melted and smooth. Pour the chocolate onto the parchment paper and spread into an even layer about ¼-inch thick. While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle the pretzels, candy corn, candy eyeballs, and Halloween sprinkles over the top, gently pressing larger pieces into the chocolate. Melt the white chocolate using the same 30-second method. Drizzle it over the bark. Don’t worry about making it perfect. A few blobs just add to the spooky look! Refrigerate for about 30 minutes, or until completely firm. Break into pieces and enjoy! Tip: Make it your own! Add your favorite Halloween candy or use leftover trick-or-treat candy to create a totally different batch.
SPOOKY CANDY BARK: INGREDIENTS • 12 oz milk or semisweet chocolate chips • 4 oz white chocolate chips • ½ cup mini pretzels, broken • ¼ cup candy corn • Candy eyeballs • Halloween sprinkles • Optional: Leftover Halloween candy or other favorite toppings OCTOB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E .
