Style - Uniquely Yours
Dear Reader,
We hope this letter finds you in high spirits and full of creative energy.
Today, we want to take a moment to celebrate and explore the fascinating world of style. Style is not limited to the clothes we wear or the way we adorn ourselves; it encompasses every aspect of our lives. From the way we decorate our homes to the music we listen to, from the books we read to the way we carry ourselves in conversations, style permeates every facet of our existence. It is the thread that weaves together the tapestry of our lives.
Our town has a unique style, including its history and traditions, and it makes Parker a wonderful place to live. The Downtown Business Alliance has been busy bringing back some cherished events that residents have embraced over the years. Read what they are doing to create lasting memories for residents and visitors alike.
And cheers to Brenda Zdanowicz as Parker Panache celebrates 20 years! The shop is a Mainstreet icon and the clothes and accessories that Brenda and her mom carry are the perfect example of how fashion can be both timeless and trendsetting. The shop isn’t just about the gorgeous clothing—these ladies exude a style all their own by caring for each new and returning customer and offering their assistance and expertise.
Katie Hughes and Bonnie Blue's Event Venue offer elegant, yet laid-back Colorado style for special occasions and corporate events.
Style is deeply personal. And it evolves as we celebrate our quirks, our passions, and our desires. Style is a form of self-expression that communicates who we are, how we perceive the world and what we value. In this way, style becomes a powerful tool for connection, as it enables us to find common ground with others who share our aesthetic sensibilities.
We hope this issue inspires you to forge new paths or perhaps explore familiar ones. There is so much here in Parker to uplift our spirits, boost our productivity and ignite our creativity.
We've found that the best style is an authentic expression of who you really are. And that’s something no one on earth can duplicate.
Here’s to being uniquely you!
XOXO

ARE YOUR GOALS “MUST HAVE” or “NICE TO HAVE”?
You may have many financial goals. But are they all equally important? Probably not.
And that’s why it’s a good idea to identify goals as “must have” versus “nice to have.” A “must have” goal might be achieving a comfortable retirement, while a “nice to have” one could be a vacation home by the beach. So, it’s important to prioritize these goals and invest accordingly. While you may want to focus more on the “must haves,” you may find that with careful budgeting and potential salary increases, you can find space to keep investing toward the “nice to haves.”
The element of time is also important in prioritizing goals and choosing appropriate investment strategies. For long-term goals, such as retirement, you’ll need a reasonable amount of growth-oriented investments. But for a short-term goal, such as an upcoming wedding or a long vacation, you’ll want investments that don’t fluctuate much in value, so you’ll know the money will be there when you need it. Achieving your goals can be challenging. But by Identifying and prioritizing these goals, following suitable strategies to meet them, and regularly reviewing your approach, you can help yourself get to where you want to go.

“You’ve gotta get dressed everyday, so you might as well wear something you feel great in. Don’t wait til you drop five pounds and don’t save something you love for a special occasion. Life is always a very special occasion, and you should dress accordingly.” This sage advice comes from Brenda Zdanowicz, owner of Mainstreet icon Parker Panache, a women’s clothing and accessories boutique that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. We talked to Brenda about fashion, trends, and the joy of owning a business in Parker.
WHAT WAS YOUR BACKGROUND PRIOR TO OPENING YOUR SHOP AND WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO OPEN PARKER PANACHE IN PARKER 20 YEARS AGO?
Before opening my store in 2003, I worked in child protection. But I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin where my mom owned a boutique. When my parents decided to move from Wisconsin to Colorado, they found and fell in love with Parker, and my mom quickly realized Parker was lacking a “dress shop.” As we moved my parents into their new home in Parker, my mom pointed to what is now my store, and said, “That would make a cute store.” On the next trip, there was a “for lease” sign in the window. My mom made it clear that she did not want to open another business, but if I wanted to, she’d be thrilled to work for me. So, on Labor Day 2003, with a baby, a playpen and a prayer, we opened our doors. In the early years, the store provided me with a great way to be available for my kids and still work. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of helping women find clothes for life’s special occasions, and that has been such an honor. Beautiful clothes and fabulous designs are a lot of fun, but it’s the relationships I’ve formed with my customers over the years that I really cherish.

WHAT TRENDS HAVE YOU SEEN COME AND GO OVER THE YEARS?
Twenty years is long enough to see a lot of things come and go. I remember selling the heck out of “magic scarves.” They were made of eyelash yarn and sewn in a tube, so you could wear them as a cowl neck or a regular scarf. Pants have been wide leg, skinny leg, embroidered, and blinged. Now the best trend I’m seeing is women wearing what they feel best in and what works best for their figure.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE FASHION TRENDS YOU ARE SEEING THIS FALL?
This fall we’re seeing bold colors, monochromatic pant suits, and lot of vegan (aka faux) leather.
ARE SOME TRENDS FROM PAST YEARS/ ERAS COMING BACK? WHAT SHOULD WOMEN LOOK FOR WHEN SHOPPING FOR CASUAL, WORK AND/OR SPECIAL OCCASION ATTIRE?
Everything circles back, so if you can’t part with it, give yourself some grace! You might get one more wear out of it. We like to encourage our customers to build their wardrobes around high-quality, timeless pieces. Buy the things you feel your best in, because that is what you will wear repeatedly. And think of the cost in terms of price per wear. You can actually save money by buying quality over quantity. We strive to find pieces that are unique enough that they can be worn for many years. And we rotate less expensive, fun items to be added to the timeless pieces each season.
WHAT ACCESSORIES DO YOU HAVE AVAILABLE FOR CUSTOMERS?
We carry Uno de 50 jewelry and Hammett handbags, and we are crazy about both brands! They both offer great quality and elevated casual styles. Accessories are a great way to make a tee shirt and jeans look much more sophisticated.

STYLISH CELEBRATIONS
After recognizing a lack of venue and event representation in the Eastern part of Colorado, it was the entrepreneurial Hughes family who sought to fill this void by creating an event space that not only meets the needs of various events, but also showcases the natural beauty of the region. And they found the perfect spot! Nestled in the heart of Elizabeth, the Bonnie Blue’s Event Venue has quickly become a popular choice for weddings, as well as a wide variety of other festive occasions. “We ended up choosing the property because it sat on a hill, had great views and was already zoned commercial,” shares Katie Hughes, Bonnie Blue’s event venue manager.

Bonnie
Bonnie Blue’s opened its doors in August of 2020, just as COVID-19 was locking down a good portion of the United States. And, though they didn’t plan to open a venue business during a pandemic, “the timing ended up working out,” Katie says. “The Hughes family has always been a family of entrepreneurs and dreamers. They saw a business opportunity that provided an outlet for passion, and they went for it!” With Bonnie Blue’s central location, serene atmosphere and breathtaking mountain views, it’s become the go-to destination for weddings, corporate events, birthday parties, quinceañeras, bridal and baby showers, and more.
Even the name Bonnie Blue’s holds a sentimental significance for the Hughes family, as it pays homage to the owners’ grandmother, who passed away during the planning phase of the project. “We realized in our hunt for a name that this was the perfect way to honor her,” Katie says.
Bonnie Blue’s offers an impressive range of amenities and caters to the diverse needs of different events. Wedding clients are treated to Bridal Suite and Groom’s Cabin access, ensuring their special day starts out in a relaxing and pampering atmosphere. The indoor reception space accommodates up to 200 people and boasts a comfortable and elegant setting for any type of gathering. Additionally, the covered pavilion and spacious lawn area provide versatile options for both indoor and outdoor celebrations. Finally, the venue’s thoughtfully designed landscape, complete with exterior market lights, exudes a warm and inviting ambiance, which sets the stage for magical evenings under the stars.
Bonnie Blue’s built-in bar, full-service kitchen for catering teams, and ample parking for 80
vehicles add to the convenience and efficiency of hosting your special event. The venue also offers a heated and covered patio, which ensures comfort even during winter events—a huge goal for the Hughes family, who are eager to host more cold-weather events, such as Christmas parties and winter weddings, to capitalize on the enchanting environment that the colder months bring.
Renting a venue, such as Bonnie Blue’s, can prove to be a wise choice, according to Katie, “as it often comes with many essentials needed for successful celebrations,” such as a venue’s expertise and preferred partners, which can help streamline the planning process and help curb unnecessary costs. When comparing event venues, Katie suggests asking what a typical budget is for an event in their space. “That way they don’t get sticker shock throughout the planning process,” she says. “The more transparency and organization up front, the better. Also, ask about their preferred partners assuming they do not have in-house catering and beverage services.”
Bonnie Blue’s has swiftly established itself as a premier destination for wedding celebrations in Elizabeth and beyond. Its captivating location, versatile amenities, and warm hospitality make Bonnie Blue’s an appealing choice for weddings, as well as parties and other gathering events. Whether it’s exchanging vows with a majestic mountain backdrop or reveling in the holiday spirit, Bonnie Blues offers a delightful setting to create lasting memories with loved ones.
For more information about Bonnie Blues event venue and to set up a tour, visit bonniebluesvenue.com or call 720-688-0320.

BUSINESSES HELPING BUSINESSES
ARTICLE BY MARY ABEL PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF DOWNTOWN BUSINESS ALLIANCE
Downtown Parker has more than 50 shops, services, and restaurants in the downtown footprint. With more than a million residents within a 30-minute drive of downtown Parker, the concentration and diversity of options puts Parker on the same level as other regional shopping districts in communities like Castle Rock, Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Highlands Ranch, Aurora, and Centennial.
“In 2015, I had a vision of a strong merchant networking system in Downtown Parker to collaborate with all the businesses and create a vibrant downtown,” says DBA Founder and Board Member Shelli Mango. “I asked Town Councilmember Josh Rivero and the Chamber Director at the time for their assistance. We created a flyer, hit the streets, and invited all the businesses to attend a networking meeting. Approximately 50 attendees spent two hours brainstorming ideas of what we would like to accomplish together.”
A significant milestone—the acquisition of 501 C6 status in 2016, provides the alliance with valuable opportunities to further the mission of enhancing the downtown area’s economic vitality.
Five board members—Omar Castillo, Ashley Nagy, Brandi Wilks, Christina Guertin, and Denise Haack— share their thoughts and vision for this
passionate group of business owners.
“The DBA is a collective voice of our business and building owners in downtown,” says Board Chair Omar Castillo. “It’s important that this group has its own representation to make sure the group as a whole is equally represented at all levels.”
Vice Chair Ashley Nagy agrees. “We serve as the voice of our downtown businesses. As business owners and managers, we understand the needs of those businesses better than anyone else. Whether it is a proposed change or an event occurring within our boundaries, we are able to offer a unique perspective that ensures the continued success of downtown businesses.”
Member at Large Christina Guertin joined after seeing how the COVID-19 shutdown hurt locally owned businesses. “After Covid, I was compelled to do whatever I could to help our resilient small business owners in the downtown area, as well as bring back some normalcy to the town,” she says. “It has been an amazing place to raise my family and I wanted to be part of ensuring that all residents—old and new—would also be able to experience what makes Parker special.”

“I was drawn to the DBA because they offered not only a sense of community, but I saw an opportunity with my specific skills to help the DBA grow and be even more successful,” adds Former Vice Chair Brandi Wilks. “I own a local business and I wanted to be more involved in my community and help support my fellow local business owners.”
Two of the DBA’s big accomplishments were bringing back two big events that perished in the wake of the pandemic: the Trick or Treat off Mainstreet and the Christmas Parade. “These events have been beloved traditions in our town for years,” says Member at Large Christina Guertin. “As our town has grown, so have the scope of both events. The Parade used to be solely a horse carriage parade.
Considering our history is heavily steeped in the equine community, it was important for us to keep this aspect as a nod to our original tradition, but we expanded it to include businesses, nonprofits and high school marching bands to allow more community involvement.
For Member at Large Denise Haack, bringing back traditions like the parade was a big reason for her involvement. “I wanted to join the DBA to help protect our town’s heritage. I feel that the hometown Christmas Parade needed to be resurrected. It is such a huge part of our community, and celebrating all the different people and groups that make the Town of Parker feel like home is so important.”
The Downtown Business Alliance is funded through membership dues and its annual golf tournament. “The golf tournament is our only fundraiser for the year, and the proceeds from this event go directly to fund the Trunk or Treat off Mainstreet and the Christmas Parade,” explains Brandi.

Elevated Outdoor Living
Enjoy
Reader, we have news for you: fall is coming. Perhaps you are the type that gets excited for cooler weather, golden aspen trees, and snuggly sweaters. However, if you’re anything like me, you can’t help but mourn the languid days of summer. Thankfully, outdoor gatherings that linger late into the evenings don’t have to cease just because summer does. The right hardscaping from MG Landscaping can keep you cozied up next to a crackling fire pit or wining and dining on the patio through the cooler months.
Hardscaping includes any man-made structure that accentuates natural landscaping elements such as artificial turf, fountains, waterfalls, patios and fences. Exceptional hardscaping combines functionality and beauty. For example, a driveway will get you from the road to your garage, but it should also flow with the architecture of your home and provide a structural template for landscaping
features like grasses and flowers. Like any devoted artist, Sigi Miranda, the owner of MG Landscaping, is focused on quality above all else.
“The quality of our work sets MG Landscaping apart from the rest. We’re not trying to do as many jobs as we can; our goal is to do each job the best we can,” Sigi says. Though they aim to produce excellence on the first try, the reality is that landscaping requires trial and error. In the natural world, flowers die, pests invade, and trees don’t always respond well to certain factors. If something doesn’t survive, the experts at MG Landscaping will return to the job until the customer is satisfied and the yard is exactly what they envisioned.
So, consider how you can enhance your outdoor living space this season. Whether your yard is in need of man-made masterpieces or flourishing flora, MG Landscaping will go above and beyond to get the job done.

Add Some Style to Your Smile
Glowing accolades for the surgeons at Dry Creek Oral Surgery who are making a difference
ARTICLE BY CASSANDRA GREEN
FAMILY CARE | HEALTH + WELLNESS
Dr. Jeremy Jannuzi, Dr. Julia Plevnia, and Dr. Daniel Escalante have expertise in corrective jaw surgery, wisdom tooth removal and oral pathology.

Have you ever felt a click or a pop in your mouth as you chew your food? Do you have pain in your jaw from grinding your teeth at night? These are symptoms that oral surgeons have solutions for. If you feel self-conscious about your smile due to an overbite or underbite, or if you experience so much pain that you have trouble chewing your food, Dry Creek Oral Surgery has a plan for you.
“It’s about making a difference in people’s lives,” Ray Lawson, Dry Creek Oral Surgery’s practice manager, says. “We want to treat all our patients with respect and welcome them in, to let them know they feel valued as an individual and show that they are going to get the best treatment in the world—our very best effort at all times.”
Oral surgery involves anything from your head down to your neck, skeletally speaking. This involves treatment relating to mouth, teeth and facial regions. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons, Dr. Julia Plevnia, Dr. Jeremy Jannuzi, and Dr. Daniel Escalante have expertise in corrective jaw surgery, wisdom tooth removal and oral pathology.
In business for 23 years, “A vast majority of what we see is tooth extractions. More often than not, it’s wisdom teeth for teenagers, or single tooth extractions for young adults,” Ray shares. “If the general dentist or root canal won’t save it, the oral surgeon is the final option to remove the tooth that is causing pain.” They also perform dental implants.
The oral surgeons at Dry Creek Oral Surgery care deeply for their patients. “All three doctors are caring, detail-oriented and have big hearts for their patients,” Ray says.
Dr. Julia Plevnia lives in Parker. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan, and has
gained outstanding accomplishments in her career through military and private practice experience. She is the Joint State Surgeon for the Colorado National Guard as well as the Colorado Army State Surgeon. In 2020, she was awarded the Order of Military Medical Merit. She is also one of the examiners for oral/facial surgeons pursuing their board certification.
Dr. Daniel Escalante also has an accolade of experience through military and private practice. Ray describes him as the “tech guy” on the team of surgeons. He is passionate about top-ofthe-line approaches to patient care through new technology. He’s the reason for their 3-D printer they use for surgical guides and teeth impressions. This makes their procedures less intrusive and more precise.
Dr. Jeremy Jannuzzi has been with the practice the longest. Ray describes him as intelligent and an expert in what he does. He’s one of the surgeons who is licensed to do anesthesia inspections for other oral surgeons in Colorado. Along with Dr. Plevnia, he is involved in medical record reviews and is an expert witness for law firms in providing second opinions.
“He has eyes for excellence,” Ray says. “He is super intelligent and involved in his church and community.” Dr. Jannuzzi is passionate about his work and people.
All three surgeons are experts and have an entourage of accomplishments to back up their passion to make a difference. If you want to talk to a professional about an oral issue, Ray suggests you see your general dentist to speed up the process or visit drycreekoralsurgery.com to schedule a consultation directly with their team.
