GARAGECONDOS OFFER VERSATILE SPACES TO STORE, WORK, AND PLAY!

GARAGES ARE ADAPTABLE SPACES. Some people have very organized spaces, and some have chaotic, catch-all spaces. Garages hold everything from tools to keepsake items to cars, but they typically aren’t thought of as a comfortable place to hang out— until now. Glenn McWilliams, the owner of GarageCondos, expands the vision of what it means to have a garage. Yes, these man (or woman) caves are suitable for storing and working on multiple cars, but they hold several other possibilities as well. People utilize GarageCondos as office spaces, places to lounge while watching television, and, in the case of Bill Trombley, indoor batting cages.

give the girls and their teammates a place to practice.” According to Glenn, GarageCondos have a key quality that makes them unique aside from their convenient 24/7/365 access. “Ownership fuels most of our buyers. As far as I know, we’re one of the only companies who sell storage units like this,” Glenn says. That

Condos build equity, appreciate, and can be rented out just like a regular home. The only thing you can’t do is live inside of one— though that doesn’t mean that Glenn hasn’t caught people trying! Owners also have access to several amenities, including water and wash down areas, an air/vac station, an RV dump, common area restrooms, and a private clubhouse. Sandy Rufenacht appreciates that his garage condo gives him a place to go after work and on the weekends. As the son of a Ford dealer, Sandy’s love affair with cars goes way back. He stores his high school car, a completely restored ‘69 Mustang Fastback with a 700 horsepower engine, in his unit. “It is the perfect location and the perfect atmosphere for car guys,” Sandy says.

The mezzanine of Sandy’s immaculate unit is aptly dubbed ‘The Boneyard’ after the student section at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Husker memorabilia adorns the walls and provides the perfect atmosphere to sit back and watch a game. Aside from personal spaces, GarageCondos offers options for businesspeople as well. Glenn recognized the desire many people had to run a business out of the condos, so they created the Business Flex Unit. They are specially set up to offer more parking and signage. “This way, business people have a more affordable, smaller space they can purchase instead of just renting,” Glenn says. management. They also collaborate with other builders to do architectural design work, which is the story behind how The WeShed came to be. This build took place in Douglas County’s own farm-to-table community, Fox Hill. House Beautiful Magazine approached the couple about the idea to create an on-property getaway. A home away from home, so to speak. The WeShed is exactly that. It’s a space where married couples can spend intentional time together, an individual can relax with a drink after work, or a parent can have one-on-one time with a child. With amenities like a powder bathroom, wet bar, dishwasher, sink, large multi-purpose space, small fridge, and a closet, the WeShed is fully functional. “Our goal is to build homes that help people design their every day,” Brett says. “So, we’re really mindful about things like how the light sets and rises on the property, how to create intimacy in a space with lighting, and how a space flows altogether,” Brett says.

These principles were fundamental to the WeShed, which features a skylight and sky cove window that provides additional seating. The windows provide panoramic views of the front range and the 65 acres Fox Hill dedicated to open space initiatives. There is abundant lighting during the daytime and the ability to stargaze once the sun goes down. Brett is adamant that anyone can utilize the heart behind the WeShed— without building a whole new structure. He encourages rethinking dormant spaces inside one’s home. “Maybe there’s a bedroom sitting for guests that aren’t coming anymore. Perhaps there’s a different way to turn it into a game room or a work from home space,” Brett suggests. “How can you turn it into an enjoyable space that could function or serve as a place to get away inside of your own home?” You can read the original article in the February/March issue of House Beautiful Magazine. Or, look for the episode on the entire project on Amazon Prime! (The home that includes the WeShed is available for purchase at Fox Hill! CULINARY CREATIONS

F S E R P A E R T S I S H N G NOTHING BRINGS A HOME TOGETHER QUITE LIKE A HOMECOOKED MEAL AROUND THE DINNER TABLE. And, nothing says springtime quite like garden-fresh food. Recently, I’ve been in love with plant-based pasta. Whether it’s chickpea linguine or cauliflower gnocchi, I find that the plant options actually have more flavor and versatility, all the while stirring up less guilt— and you can eat loads more. This recipe is for Rosemary Pesto Spaghetti Squash. The way the squash transforms into pasta-like tendrils after baking is like magic, and this recipe can be altered to accommodate anyone’s dietary needs. It can be gluten, dairy, or meat-free. Whatever you do, be sure to include the fresh herbs. They MAKE this spaghetti. From avocado pesto with heaps of refreshing basil to chicken sausage sautéed with aromatic rosemary, making this spaghetti squash will bring springtime to your tastebuds… even if it’s not quite warm outside yet.
