Recently, we began our partnership with Operation Kindness. It’s more than just an animal shelter—it’s a life-changing initiative for animal welfare. As a nonprofit organization committed to animal welfare and responsible pet ownership, they have been tirelessly serving North Texas as one of the oldest and largest no-kill shelters, and the PSCD team was able to make an impact this year like never before.

At PSCD, we aim to collect donations to assist Operation Kindness in providing essential care, shelter, and love to homeless dogs and cats in North Texas. For each patient that brings in a donation to our practice, they will receive 10% off their purchase of injectables and skincare.

To our lovely patients who participate in this fundraiser, we’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you. Your compassion has truly made a difference in the lives of countless animals in need. Your unwavering support has been instrumental in finding these animals their forever homes and giving them a second chance at a joyful life.

Allow me to introduce myself! I’m Christiana,  Park Cities Lifestyle ’s new editor. I’m thrilled to be taking up the reins and continuing the work of telling local stories and connecting the Park Cities community together. And I’m even more thrilled to be kicking things off with the style issue.

When you think of the best shopping in the Park Cities, Highland Park Village is likely the first place that comes to mind. Its striking architecture and recognizable clock tower have made it an institution in Dallas fashion for almost a century, and some of its stores have remained there for decades. But others have come and gone, making way for the latest up-and-coming brands and designers. I was born and raised in Dallas, and I’ve lived here most of my adult life, so I’ve seen HP Village go through many iterations. This fall, the shopping center is debuting four new exciting stores—three of which are the first standalone locations in all of Texas—which writer David Muscari highlights in this issue (page 20). Because Highland Park Village has managed to evolve over the years while staying rooted in tradition, it’s become synonymous with style.

In this issue, we also take a look at some of the stunning home interiors designed by ML Interiors Group, whose team consistently brings their client’s visions to life (page 24). We chat with Dallas designer Valerie Garmino about how she finds creativity in each day (page 30), we explore how TutorVille is expanding to Dallas for the purpose of helping kids learn (page 32), and we get a sneak peek of Marcel Market owner Amélie Monvoisin’s favorite picks for fall at her dreamy Bishop Arts boutique (page 38).

At the end of this month, September 29-October 1, you can experience both the old and new at Highland Park Village during the annual SMU Family Weekend Shopping Stroll. This is a fun weekend for students and their families to shop and sample, with a host of complimentary activations and discounts to welcome students and families to HP Village.

Jonathan Simkhai opened his first store more than a decade ago. If fashion is instant language, then each item of clothing is vital to our communication with the world. Dallas designer Valerie Garmino, who founded her eponymous and sustainability-focused clothing line a few years ago and has a new collection underway, understands and lives that. She spends her time creating statement designs that feel luxurious and down-to-earth all at once. We caught up with Garmino to find out how she spends 24 hours creating pieces that shape both personal style and the language of fashion.

WALK ME THROUGH YOUR MORNING ROUTINE. WHAT PREPARES YOU FOR THE DAY?

The first thing I do is hydrate with a glass of water. I love walks with my beloved Yorkshire terrier, Aldo, where I connect with nature. I practice a 15-minute prayer/meditation to set positive intentions. Then I gather the latest fashion magazines, art books, and mood boards in my atelier. I review ongoing projects, make sketches, and prepare for meetings.

WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO GET CREATIVE AS A DESIGNER?

Clothes have the power to influence mood and confidence. Wearing something that reflects my creativity boosts my inspiration. I select outfits that represent my personal style and align with my image.

WHERE DO YOU WORK FROM?

I mostly work from my peaceful home studio, which is adorned with natural light, my mannequin, and book collection. I also find inspiration in visits to the Dallas Museum of Art and Fort Worth Japanese Garden. When I need a break, I enjoy a meal or chai latte in a restaurant with lots of natural light.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON, AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM PAST COLLECTIONS?

My latest collection, La Vie en Rose, evokes simple pleasures and moments of joy. Prints and quotes were inspired by the importance of kindness and sustainability. The collection I’m currently working on brings me immense joy, as it celebrates heritage, exquisite artistry, and femininity. I immersed myself in traditional craftsmanship of uniquely beautiful garments in Europe and Asia.

HOW DO YOU WIND DOWN AFTER YOUR WORKDAY?

Solace and tranquility are essential for recharging and nurturing my well-being. I enjoy taking warm baths with lit candles and dimmed lights. To further relax, I indulge in a good podcast or soothing music.

WHAT CAN PARK CITIES RESIDENTS EXPECT FROM YOU THIS FALL?

I’m committed to elevating the art of haute couture. My highly anticipated Lotus Collection will captivate Dallas residents with techniques that redefine the boundaries of construction, material manipulation, and embellishments. EXPANDING TO DALLAS

The process to connect with a tutor is easy. There is an initial phone conversation between the franchise manager and parent to discuss the problems the child is experiencing and some goals to reach. The program is personalized, and your child is assigned a tutor through the match program. Sessions are booked for a minimum of two hours and can be set to weekly or monthly plans. Each family is assigned one tutor for the duration of their program, so it’s not a new person every time—which allows for optimal relationship building.

THE little BLACK DRESS

We enlisted the help of stylist, Amani Skalacki, to show us how versatile the little black dress can be. “We usually think of the little black dress as a piece you wear to an event. However, because black is so flattering on all body types and skin tones, women have multiple black dresses from casual to evening,” Amani says.

“A sequin dress can be dressed up with heels, or that same dress can be transformed into a casual outfit with the addition of tennis shoes and an oversized blazer or a denim jacket. Transform that strappy dress you have been wearing all summer into an outfit that is perfect for chilly fall temperatures. Add a narrow scarf, a leather jacket and sandals or a tall pointy boot, and you have a whole new look for an evening out,” Amani adds.
