YOUR DIVORCE AND FAMILY LAW

ATTORNEY

ASK

LINDSAY

A: Yes, Arizona law recognizes that grandparents have a valuable and important role in a child’s life While parents are generally the primary decision-makers regarding their children, Arizona provides certain legal rights to grandparents that allow them to seek visitation (or even custody) of their grandchildren in a variety of situations, such as when the parents are divorced or separated, one or bot h parents have passed away, one parent has abandoned the child, or when the child is being abused, neglected, or in danger.

However, it is important to keep in mind that grandparents do not have an automatic right to visitation or custody of their grandchildren, and must first file a petition with the court demonstrating that visitation or custody is in the best interests of the child. The court will consider many factors when making its decision, including the child’s relationship with the grandparent and the current parenting situation.

Grandparents’ visitation and custody rights are often complex, so it is strongly encouraged to consult with a family law attorney who is experienced with navigating issues involving grandparent rights in family law matters. A family law attorney can assist you with understanding your rights, assessing the strength of your case, and guiding you through the entire court process.

Merry Everything

To us, the holiday season is a blend of traditions that light up our lives—whether it’s the twinkling glow of the Christmas tree, the warmth of lighting the menorah, or gathering with loved ones savoring the joy of the season (and likely sipping a few festive cocktails). It’s about watching timeless holiday movies, visiting Santa, and spinning the dreidel. It’s about 8 crazy nights of Hanukkah and the wonder of Christmas morning.

In our home, we cherish the values that bring us together as a family: kindness, compassion, integrity, and the simple joy of believing in the magic that makes this time of year so special.

As we reflect on 2024 and look ahead to the new year, I want to express my immense gratitude for welcoming Paradise Valley City Lifestyle into your hearts and homes. You are truly an extension of our family, and there is no greater blessing than being part of this sacred and connected community we’re so fortunate to call home.

This issue is extra special as we celebrate the sounds of the season featuring some incredibly talented musicians. As a biased country music fan, I admit I’m still swooning over our cover, but you’ll also hear from other esteemed artists who share exclusive, candid insights.

On a personal note, this month marks my one-year anniversary as owner of PVCL, and what a remarkable year it has been! Thanks to your support, we’ve grown in ways I could never have imagined, and I’m excited for everything that year two has in store. With star-studded covers, captivating stories, the best partners and so much more, I’m thrilled to continue this journey with all of you.

For our family, the greatest gifts are the memories we create and the time we savor in the precious present. Life moves fast, so as we navigate the busy holiday season, let’s take a moment to slow down and embrace what truly matters—the joy of togetherness, the power of connection, and the simple moments that bring us closer.

To borrow from one of our all-time favorites, it really is a wonderful life. No matter where your holiday lights come from, may your days be joyful and bright.

From our family to yours, merry everything.

Lovin’ on Luke

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

We love him and we mean it.

Country superstar Luke Bryan is heading to Scottsdale to headline the 2025 Coors Light Birds Nest.

Given his upcoming Waste Management Phoenix Open debut, we scored a spotlight on the guy who has seen great success spanning 24+ billion global streams, 11.5+ million global album sales, and 55+ million track sales worldwide.

LUKE’S STORY

With Georgia roots, Luke grew up as the youngest son of a farmer obsessed with his parents’ record collection. He gravitated towards George Strait and Conway Twitty, and fell in love with the guitar his parents gifted him as a teen. He quickly found his voice and a passion for playing, writing songs and starting bands.

As Luke prepped a post-high school move to Nashville, his older brother was killed in a car accident. The tragic loss put Luke’s Nashville dreams on hold as he craved staying close to family. By day, he attended college and worked on his father’s peanut farm, and at night, his band played on campus and in local bars.

Luke’s father saw his son’s musical dream slipping away, and he knew it was time to step in. According to biography reports, he told Luke to pack his truck and hit the road to Tennessee or he was fired from the farm. So, Luke made the move.

Finding a fresh start in Nashville, the mid-20-year-old musician landed a songwriting contract earning writing and co-writing credits for artists like Travis Tritt and Billy Currington. He also performed locally himself, and as luck would have it, a rep from Capitol Records spotted Luke’s talent and signed him to the label.

Fast-forward to now, Luke is the most digital single RIAA certified country artist of all time. He’s had 30 #1 singles, 17 of which he co-wrote. Luke has won 50+ major music awards including five wins as Entertainer of the Year. He also recently received the ACM Lifting Lives Award presented to an individual who is devoted to improving lives through the power of music, has a generosity of spirit, and is committed to serving.

While Luke’s music has brought him worldwide acclaim, he’s also known for his philanthropy, countless guest appearances, and performances through his Farm Tour. With his humble upbringing on the peanut farm, Bryan brings his shows to farms across the country. Since the tour’s inception, he has awarded more than 80 scholarships, and the Farm Tour has raised enough money to, along with sponsors, donate more than 9 million meals.

And yes, Luke will return to ABC’s American Idol in 2025 alongside fellow judges Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood.

MIND OF A COUNTRY BOY

Seventeen years into his country music career, Luke is still dialing up his charismatic, ball-cap-flipping concerts that propelled him from the Georgia bar circuit to a stadium-headlining household name. He’s diving deeper into the wildly fun yet profoundly relatable songs about love, loss, life and family for which he’s celebrated.

In September (2024), Luke released his long-awaited Mind Of A Country Boy, the culmination of a career spent studying songs and living the hunting, fishing, and loving everyday lifestyle he sings about. The 14-song album, produced by powerhouse father-son team Jeff and Jody Stevens, is his first new album in four years.

“I’ve been able to take my time and really compile songs,” says the country superstar. “If it’s a song that I cut two or three years ago, and I still love it, and it still sounds fresh, then I feel it’ll stand the test of time.”

Luke co-wrote the title track with frequent collaborators Dallas Davidson, Ben Hayslip, and Rhett Akins. The album details daily life in rural America to an infectious melody.

“There are a lot of references that your common person might be like, ‘What’s he talking about,’” Luke says. “I think when I can start talking about these really specific phrases and references in the song, it validates me being a country boy.”

For example, he offers the opening lyrics: Is the trickle charger hooked up to the boat? Is the pattern right on my turkey choke?

“That’s real, not pretentious, not made up, country stuff that I think people can relate to. It sounds like truly what goes on in the mind of a country boy.”

The radio single “Love You, Miss You, Mean It” has elements that remind Bryan of his relationship with his wife and is packed with the powerhouse mojo he wants to surround the album’s release. The song is tracking to be among the most successful of his career.

“I look back on my career of No. 1 songs, and I know that not every song is everyone’s favorite. As an artist, I think you must try new things and veer off the common path. Then you go back to the roots and what got you there, and I certainly think ‘Love You, Miss You, Mean It’ is a classic song for me and my fans.”

CONTINUED >

Country radio also embraced the album’s bonafide, foot-stomping, singalong hits “Country On” (it became his 30th No 1 hit) and “But I Got a Beer in My Hand.” With the unquestionable success of those songs, Bryan knew he had the springboard to launch Mind Of A Country Boy

“I’m always trying to be a little bit better on piano, be a little bit better guitar player, and be a little bit better of a singer. I can go into the studio, and my producer will look at me and say, ‘Man, never heard you sound better.’ It’s always great when I feel like I can maintain the level I want to maintain.”

Luke also embraces the sentimental side of dad life in “Pair of Boots,” which he calls a “perfectly written song,” and “Jesus’ Bout

My Kids,” a ballad of timely lyrics he knows fans will recognize as true. Vulnerably, he delivers a breathtaking gut punch about the realities of balancing career and family in “For The Kids,” having penned the song with Old Dominion’s Brad Tursi and Justin Ebach. He believes it’s the finest song he’s written.

“I think as you grow older and mature, subject matters change, and things that you can sing about change.”

Luke is a different man than the 30-year-old newlywed who dropped his debut album in 2007. Since then, he and his wife have had two sons who are now teenagers. The couple also helped raise his sister’s kids.

LUKE HEADS TO THE WM PHOENIX OPEN

The lineup for the 2025 Coors Light Birds Nest has confirmed Luke Bryan will hit the stage with rising country superstar Nate Smith on Thursday, February 6th.

“When I’m on stage, happy and enjoying myself, I think people can feel and see that it’s authentic, and I’m not just up there going through the motions,” says Luke.

General admission tickets start at $125. VIP tickets and elevated experiences are also available.

Strumming Through Seasons

ROCKIN’ AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE WITH ANDY CHILDS AND SIXWIRE

Andy Childs is the electrifying lead singer and guitarist of Sixwire, a band that’s as dynamic as the music they create. With a background steeped in hard rock and country, Andy has become a vital part of the musical fabric in Nashville. When he’s not lighting up the stage, Andy is often paying it forward, particularly through his work with Alice Cooper’s annual Christmas Pudding.

Sixwire
Andy Childs and Lisa Marie Presley
“Hearing my record on the radio for the first time was an amazing feeling. I’ve learned to live in the moment and enjoy the journey.”

“Being part of this incredible fundraiser is a great way to support Solid Rock’s amazing vision,” says Andy, reflecting on Sixwire’s role as the house band for the star-studded charity concert.

The event benefits the Solid Rock Foundation, Alice Cooper’s non-profit providing youth ages 12-20 with a free outlet to express their artistic abilities.

“We knew we wanted to be part of this when we visited the original Solid Rock facility.”

Andy’s friendship with Alice Cooper is a heartwarming tale of mutual respect and admiration.

“We met around 2011 at various charity events,” he recalls. “Alice and (his wife) Sheryl are the most lovely and generous people we know. Our camaraderie has blossomed into a partnership allowing us to bring a touch of country flair to the Christmas Pudding’s hard rock scene.”

FROM MEMPHIS TO STARDOM

Born in Memphis, Andy’s dreams of musical stardom ignited when he picked up a guitar at age six.

“I started strumming professionally at 16,” recounting his early days.

His talent soon caught the eye of RCA Records, where he recorded two albums that featured background vocals from Timothy B. Schmidt of the Eagles.

“Hearing my record on the radio for the first time was amazing.”

Andy opened for legends like Faith Hill and Martina McBride, soaking up invaluable lessons.

“Every musician has a story, and they’re happy to share it. The biggest thing I learned was to live in the moment and enjoy the journey.”

CONTINUED >

“It’s gratifying to have the trust and friendship of artists like Alice Cooper, Vince Gill, Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Michael McDonald, and so many more.”

THE BIRTH OF SIXWIRE

The formation of Sixwire was a blend of fate and friendship.

“The other guys were in Lee Greenwood’s band in the early ‘90s. I met them when I was Greenwood’s opening act,” Andy explains.

Collaborating with Steve Mandile, the band’s lead guitarist, they began writing and recording together, leading to the birth of Sixwire and a deal with Warner Brothers Records. Their debut album skyrocketed to the Top 30, featuring hit singles that made waves across country music. Sixwire then transitioned into the television realm, becoming the go-to band for shows like Nashville Star and American Idol’s The Next Great American Band

“Working in live television taught us about being well-prepared,” Andy reflects. “It laid the foundation for who we are today.”

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

One of the most exciting chapters in Sixwire’s story was their role on ABC’s Nashville.

“When we got the call, I told the producer we weren’t actors. He said, ‘Great, we don’t want actors!’”

Andy remembers and appreciated the down-to-earth approach. Their time on the show was both challenging and rewarding.

“It’s fascinating to watch real actors at their craft. We made lifelong friends, especially with Charles Esten.”

In 2018, Andy produced a remix album of Elvis Presley’s Gospel classics, showcasing his deep-rooted admiration for the King.

“Growing up in Memphis gave me a unique connection to Elvis,” he shares. “I created new arrangements using unreleased vocal takes. It was a dream project.”

ROCKING THE SPORTS SCENE

Sixwire has also made a name for themselves in the sports world, performing at major events like the Daytona 500 and Super Bowl halftime shows.

“All of us are sports fans, especially when it comes to football. And we’re all like brothers hanging out even when we’re not touring.”

A MERRY MELANGE OF MUSIC AND FAMILY

When it comes to the holidays, Andy and his wife Dawn dive headfirst into festive cheer.

“We love Christmas. My wife puts up at least three trees and makes delicious treats. My New Year’s resolution will be to lose the extra pounds I’ll gain from all of Dawn’s desserts.”

Looking ahead, Andy has big plans for Sixwire.

“We don’t have current television projects, but we continue writing, recording, and touring as much as we can.”

Andy’s passion for music shines through in their original song, “What If You Could Change the World,” which he describes as his favorite to perform.

“We take every show seriously, and every one of us works hard to get the music right so the stars we accompany feel at home. It’s very gratifying to have the trust and friendship of artists like Alice Cooper, Billy Gibbons, Vince Gill, Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Huey Lewis, and so many other musical greats we’ve had the joy of supporting.”

Sixwire is excited to perform at Alice Cooper’s annual Christmas Pudding on December 7th, 2024.

Behind the Kit: Zach Lind’s Rhythm of Life

An Exclusive Conversation with the Drummer of Jimmy Eat World

Zach Lind, drummer of the iconic band Jimmy Eat World, has spent over three decades shaping the sound of alternative rock. Growing up in AZ, Zach’s journey began with childhood jam sessions alongside bandmate Jim Adkins. Known for his relentless dedication and raw talent, Zach has played a vital role in creating some of the band’s most memorable hits. Now a proud Arcadia resident and family man, Zach continues to evolve as a musician and a mainstay of his community, balancing life between the stage and home.

In an exclusive Q&A, we dig deep into the world of the Jimmy Eat World drummer chatting candidly about Zach’s evolution from small-town musician to rock icon. This is Zach Lind raw, real, and reflective on a life spent in rhythm.

JIMMY EAT WORLD IS GEARING UP FOR THE BAND’S FIRST TIME PERFORMING AT ALICE COOPER’S CHRISTMAS PUDDING. ARE YOU PUMPED?

We respect Alice Cooper so much—not only for his impact as an artist but for all the work he does in the community. We’re thrilled to partake!

HOW DID YOUR BAND, JIMMY EAT WORLD, GET TOGETHER?

We all grew up in Mesa. Jim, our singer, and I went to preschool together. Around age 10, he’d come over and we’d play music—him on guitar and me on drums. We were into bands like Metallica and Guns N’ Roses. It wasn’t until high school that

we formed our band along with Tom, and eventually got Rick on bass. That’s been our lineup for over 30 years.

DID

YOU

ALWAYS LOVE THE DRUMS?

I started with the saxophone in 4th or 5th grade... but wasn’t great at it. My teacher suggested drums after seeing me on the toms, and that simple moment set me on this path.

BESIDES MUSIC, WHAT WERE YOU INTO AS A KID?

I was all about sports. My dad played professional baseball, and after he was done playing pro, he started coaching, scouting and managing teams. When I was young, as soon as the first day of summer rolled around, we’d get in our mom’s car and drive to wherever my dad was working. I was always out on the ball field with my dad, running around and shagging fly balls.

I had the lucky fortune of being surrounded by professional baseball players, so baseball always came easy to me- I loved playing and loved the game. However, I didn’t get along with my high school coach and got so fed up that I quit my senior year, left the field, got in my car, and went straight to band practice.

HOW DID YOU GUYS COME UP WITH THE BAND NAME, JIMMY EAT WORLD?

Tom, our guitarist, has two younger brothers, Jim and Ed. They got into a fight one day, and Ed drew a funny picture of Jim eating the world, poking fun at his weight.

“We’ve just tried to ride the line of being ourselves and making sure we stay who we are, but at the same time, challenge ourselves to keep evolving.”

We thought it was hilarious, and after a 5-minute conversation, we decided to be Jimmy Eat World.

WHAT WAS THE TURNING POINT FOR YOUR BAND’S SUCCESS?

It was when we released “The Middle.” Even though we signed with Capitol Records out of high school, our first two albums flopped, and the label dropped us. We self-funded Bleed American, and when “The Middle” came out, it blew up.

HOW DID YOU HANDLE THE RISE TO FAME?

At the time, we didn’t notice it much beyond the growing show sizes. We were young and mostly just having fun. I was 23, and it was a blast, but we didn’t fully grasp how big things had gotten. We just didn’t want to mess it up.

ANY STANDOUT MOMENTS OR MEMORIES?

Being the musical guest on Saturday Night Live—that was surreal and summed up our level of success at the time.

AS AN EVER-EVOLVING BAND, HOW DO YOU STAY RELEVANT?

We’ve just tried to ride the line of being ourselves and making sure we stay who we are, but at the same time, challenge ourselves to keep evolving. The last record we put out was in 2019. Now, our goal is making a new album we’re proud of. When that’s going to be done is to be determined.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SONG TO PERFORM?

“Goodbye, Sky Harbor.”

WHEN DID YOU MOVE TO ARCADIA?

We moved to Arcadia in 2010. I love it here—we have great restaurants, schools, and many things to do. Life just feels more centered here. I love the D-Backs and the Cards. I enjoy going to games with my kids.

WHAT’S YOUR FAMILY LIFE LIKE?

My wife and I started dating as teens, and we’re coming up on 25 years of marriage. She’s seen the band go from sketchy gigs to massive festival crowds. We have three awesome kids. It’s a sacrifice that everyone in the family makes to support my career.

WHAT WAS THE BEST GIFT YOU EVER GOT FROM SANTA… AND ANYTHING ON YOUR WISH LIST THIS YEAR?

The best gift I ever got when I was a kid was a GI Joe Hovercraft. Yeah. I was so pumped. Now from Santa? I’m really into photography, so maybe some new gear.

The 90s Fix You Didn’t Know You Needed

Mark McGrath: A Nostalgic Dive from ‘Fly’ to Fabulous

Mark McGrath, the charismatic frontman of Sugar Ray, has been a staple of the music scene since the 90s. With hits like Fly and Every Morning, he captured the essence of a generation.

“The fact we created songs that people associate wonderful memories with means the world to me,” says the sentimental performer.

As admitted 90s groupies, we were stoked to speak with Mark about all the things especially as he embarks on playing at Alice Cooper’s Christmas Pudding fundraiser this month.

“Alice is one of the most incredible people I’ve ever met. When I finally got the call to partake in the Pudding, I was honored. It’s refreshing when your heroes are better than advertised,” says Mark.

With a long history of performing in Arizona, Mark has graced stages at multiple area fundraisers and even at a Diamondbacks game.

“The Valley feels like a second home to me.”

His affection for Arizona is palpable; he loves the weather, the landscape, and the sense of community that embraces his every visit.

“What’s not to love?” he reflects.

When it comes to performing, Mark holds a deep appreciation for the memories his music evokes in fans.

“Nostalgia is a beautiful word. If you look it up, it’s all positive adjectives.”

Mark understands the power of music connecting people to their history, knowing fans often associate his songs with treasured experiences.

“I never get bored playing our songs. It feels like the first time every time. It’s like a rollercoaster ride of memories.”

Our curious minds wanted something juicy, so we asked the 90s sensation to give us the scoop on a wild backstage story. However, Mark’s response did not divulge any secrets.

“None of them are worth printing,” he answered teasingly.

However, Mark did share some pre-concert rituals like blasting 70s disco before hitting the stage, cracking a beer, and dancing.

“It’s the worst dancing you’ve ever seen, but it gets us in the mood!”

Reflecting on Sugar Ray’s big break, Mark pays full tribute to a video his buddy curated and got in the hands of a big-time exec.

“In the early 90s, everybody made demo tapes on cassettes. My best friend made us a video that made its way randomly to the president of Atlantic Records. He loved the video, and the rest is history. My buddy was the guy who made many of the videos you saw on MTV for artists like Sublime, Korn, Offspring, and more.”

Speaking of friends, Mark prioritizes fostering his longtime friendships.

“We try to do dinner twice a month. I’ve been in a band with Rodney, our guitar player, for 36 years now. We’ve gone through life together. Hanging with friends is what life is about… and it’s so underrated.”

Mark considers himself more of a fan than a musician. He loves The Beach Boys, Slayer, The Beatles, Beastie Boys and Sex Pistols.”

“The Sex Pistols gave me the courage to step on stage. They simply said, ‘If you act like you’re entertaining, you can do it.’”

And that ethos of authenticity has guided Mark throughout his career.

“I am blessed traveling the world and giving everybody their 90s needs. If this is my trajectory for the rest of my life, I’ve had the best life ever. I still pinch myself every time I get to perform.”

Despite his rockstar persona, family remains at the forefront of Mark’s life.

“Like most parents, I act as a professional Uber driver when I’m home,” he quipped, revealing balancing touring with fatherhood.

CONTINUED >

With 14-year-old twins, Mark savors family time and enjoys simple pleasures, especially when it comes to being the typical dad.

“I embarrass my kids more than anything, but that’s my job. But sometimes I’ll hear them in their rooms, and they’ll have a playlist going and Sugar Ray will come on. Surely it gives me a sense of pride knowing they kind of like my music.”

As for what the future holds, Mark remains optimistic.

“It’s just not Sugar Ray… I’ve got another band called Ezra Ray Hart and we’re playing at the Tortuga Festival in the spring.”

We couldn’t let our convo end without asking Mark a burning question… his thoughts on becoming a fashion icon when it comes to bleached tips.

“Speaking of that hairdo, I had seen a picture of Scott Weiland in Rolling Stone, and he was always the epitome of cool stylized. So, the night before we were going to shoot the Fly video, I called my friend who was in beauty school requesting a Scott Weiland hairdo. Well, over a case of beer, the burner was left on too long and turned my hair orange. It was horrid. I thought everyone would hate it, but it ended up leaving quite a statement.”

And speaking of statements, Mark has also hit the big screen.

“I love doing movies. But if you see the movies I’ve done like Joe Dirt, Sharknado and Scooby Doo… let’s just say you know Daniel Day Lewis’s position is safe amongst actors. Not everybody can transform from Marky Mark into Mark Wahlberg.”

The 90s heartthrob still prefers Ice Ice Baby as a karaoke song and even made a tall request from Santa this Christmas.

“I want a Wimbledon Rolex. I’ve been leaving hints all over my house.”

With his infectious enthusiasm and genuine warmth, Mark is a reminder that while trends may change, the heart of music will always remain.

“Just give me a time,” he said, eager to keep the music alive. “I’ll be there with bells on.”

Mark McGrath is performing at Alice Cooper’s annual Christmas Pudding on December 7th.

If you’re hosting the holidays at your ho-ho-home, what should you do if the Grinch shows up and tries to spoil the fun? With the image of your party becoming a bad banana with a greasy black peel, let’s talk about social host responsibilities in Arizona.

HOLIDAY PARTIES AND LIABILITY: HOW TO CELEBRATE RESPONSIBLY

Unlike a bar or restaurant, the host of a holiday party - or any party for that matterbears no responsibility for the actions of the party-goers on their behalf. With that being said, it’s always good to have options for those who overindulge: offer them the couch for the night or front the cost for an Uber. You aren’t legally required to do this, but in the spirit of the holidays, it takes a big what-if off your plate.

Keep in mind, though, if an adult gets out of hand at your seasonal soirée, you’re legally off the hook should they leave irresponsibly. However, that’s not the case with a minor- you’ll likely be held accountable if things go south.

While they say there’s no place like home for the holidays, remember that home doesn’t necessarily need to be your home. If you’re afraid your party guests will get a bit hum-buggery, I suggest switching to a public venue where the responsibility falls on the professionals.

Chopped Grand Champ

21 QUESTIONS WITH FAMED FOOD NETWORK SUPERSTAR

CHEF PETER MCQUAID

Chef Beau MacMillan and Chef Peter McQuaid, a celebrated culinary duo, are unveiling their highly anticipated debut menu at Scottsdale’s The Americano restaurant. With sophisticated dishes showcasing their signature blend of bold flavors and refined techniques, the menu marks the first offering by the Food Network stars and longtime collaborators since taking the helm at the upscale Italianinspired steakhouse, where MacMillan serves as director of culinary and McQuaid as executive chef.

We caught up with Chef McQuaid for a fun game of 21 questions. Here’s what he had to say about, food, life, the holidays and beyond.

1. WHAT’S YOUR CLAIM TO CULINARY FAME?

I’m a three-time Chopped Champion and Chopped Grand Champion from Chopped Spin It to Win It, and finalist on Cooking Channel’s Battle of the Decades. I also competed in Chopped Legends, hand-selected by Chef Maneet Chauhan.

2. DARE TO SHARE YOUR AGE?

I’m 26 and feel like I’m just getting started.

3. BORN AND RAISED IN SCOTTSDALE, HOW DO YOU FEEL BEING AN ESTEEMED CHEF IN YOUR HOME STOMPING GROUNDS?

It’s honestly surreal. I grew up with such admiration for the culinary scene here, and now being a part of it comes full circle.

4. DESCRIBE YOUR COOKING STYLE.

Bold, seasonal, and ingredient-driven. I want the flavors to speak for themselves, but I also love to experiment with modern techniques.

5. ANY FUN COOKING ROUTINES?

Blasting music with my team and crushing our prep.

6. WHAT DRIVES YOUR CULINARY INSPIRATION?

The seasons. I’m obsessed with what’s fresh and in peak condition. I also draw from my travels.

7. WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE FOOD NETWORK MOMENT?

Winning Chopped the first time was unforgettable, but the most memorable moment was probably that first big adrenaline rush cooking on TV on that center stage. My first dish on Chopped was my strongest performance of the whole competition and hearing the judges’ feedback was awesome.

CONTINUED >

8. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST THOUGHT WHEN BECOMING A CHOPPED GRAND CHAMP?

Pure disbelief. It was a wild journey, and that feeling of accomplishment was overwhelming.

9. WHAT MAKES YOUR YOUTHFUL SUCCESS INNOVATIVE IN THE CULINARY MARKET?

The willingness to take risks. I’m always pushing boundaries.

10. DID YOU ALWAYS HAVE BIG DREAMS OF BECOMING A FAMED CHEF?

I’ve always had big dreams, but I didn’t set out to become “famed.” I simply wanted to be great at what I do, and the recognition has come along with that.

11. WHAT’S YOUR FAVE GO-TO INGREDIENT?

Fresh herbs. I love the depth and pop a few herbs can bring to a dish, especially Dill. And of course, butter! Butter makes everything better.

12. IF YOU COULD COOK DINNER FOR ANY CELEB, WHO WOULD IT BE?

Although I’d be nervous, I’d cook and converse with Anthony Bourdain. It would be amazing to hear his perspective on life, travel, and food.

13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD?

A simple roasted chicken with Yukon gold potatoes, charred lemon and dill.

14. DESCRIBE YOUR FRIENDSHIP AND CAMARADERIE WITH CHEF BEAU.

Beau is family to me. We push each other to be better chefs and better people. Iron sharpens iron.

15. WHAT SHOULD WE ORDER OFF THE REVAMPED AMERICANO MENU?

The Wagyu Beef Carpaccio and Braised Pork Shank served with a creamy sage polenta and a pickled cherry pepper jus.

20. WHAT’S ON YOUR WISH LIST FOR SANTA?

More hours in the day would be great. But seriously, maybe new kitchen gadgets. And a new patio set would be nice, too!

21. WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO HOLIDAY COCKTAIL?

I love a hot apple cider and spiced rum. Thankfully I know someone who makes a great one.

Things to Know About Dr. Randy Craft

MD, MBA, FACS

When I was 8 years old, I had surgery that was complicated by a cardiac arrest and my organs shutting down. Turns out, I had a rare genetic condition that made me allergic to certain types of anesthesia. I spent a lot of time in the ICU, and at the end of that experience, I told everyone I was going to be a doctor.

Do your research when selecting your surgeon. There is only one American Board of Plastic Surgery, so make sure your pick is trained and performing at the highest standards. If something doesn’t feel right during your consult - get a second (and third) opinion.

Our patients feel seen. You should feel comfortable with your surgeon - make sure you feel a positive vibe.

Contrary to how it is often portrayed in the media, most people looking at plastic surgery don’t want to look like a different person. They just want to look like the best version of themselves. Many patients express a common feeling - ‘when I look in the mirror, what I see doesn’t match how I feel on the inside.’ That’s my ideal patient.

We value a sense of artistry. (It’s what makes me such a good cake decorator.) Seeing proportion and symmetry has always come naturally to me, and it is largely what led me to this field over any other.

I love learning. Honestly, there is very little I do now that is exactly how I learned it at the Mayo Clinic or Harvard. Surgery, like everything, evolves with time. We learn, we adapt, and we change our technique as we know more. I’m in constant discussion with colleagues and attend conference annually to keep abreast of the latest. I am also faculty to help teach others - where I often learn as much as I teach. In early 2025, I’ll be instructing a Deep Plane facelift course in Manhattan, where I’ll discuss the Croton Oil/Phenol peel.

Dr. Randy Craft is a double board-certified and Harvard-trained plastic surgeon. He is the founder of CraftMD Aesthetics/Wellness, specializing in cosmetic procedures. Notably named “Best of the Valley” in both 2023 & 2024, his extensive training, combined with a sense of artistry, enables him to provide patient-centric, compassionate care—always with an emphasis on safety. 4630 E. As I approach 50, I feel like Im just getting started. I am constantly growing professionally and personally - and the world is opening up for me now in ways I never anticipated. However, despite my CV and accomplishments, my son EmJay continues to be the best record of the person I am.

According to online real estate database PropertyShark, Paradise Valley’s 85253 zip code has recorded a significant 16% increase in median sale price, now reaching $3.25M. This follows a year where prices hovered just below the $3M mark. In fact, findings reveal 85253 ranks as the #27 most expensive zip code in the U.S., achieving its highest position ever.

As PV and surrounding areas cement its status as a top destination for affluent buyers, we got an end-of-year recap from our trusted real estate partners reflecting on 2024 and anticipating what’s ahead for 2025.

Katrina Barrett

Owner/Broker, Walt Danley Local Luxury | Christie’s International Real Estate

Katrina Barrett is a top-ranked luxury real estate agent in Arizona and nationally ranked as one of the top 100 realtors in the United States. According to the realtor guru, PV’s rapid growth is attributed to our sunny weather, incredible shops, great restaurants and access to entertainment, private airports and minimal traffic.

“We have low state income tax and some of the lowest property tax in the country- lifestyle is easy and resort living,” says Katrina. Katrina says 2024 saw little activity by locals, mostly listing when downsizing or moving out of state. However, most buyers were new buyers flocking from the West Coast, Midwest, and particularly the Pacific Northwest.

“We are lucky to have a majority of the highest-end listings and an acute focus on keeping high net worth and celebrity transactions off-market and off the grid in terms of press, helping clients maintain security and privacy.”

With an elite, celebrity draw, Katrina says Arcadia proper is now surpassing Paradise Valley becoming the highest per foot per acre in the state. She says her firm set the record in both one-acre lot sales in PV with $4.5 million off Wilkinson and $5.2 million on Exeter.

“Land is scarce, and tear-downs are being gobbled up. We see land as the greatest value moving forward. Homes depreciate and land appreciates, so shoppers should focus on location and lot size above all.”

In 2024, two exciting over $15 million dollar sales from Katrina’s team happened on first showings, off-market, and set closings over $1,690/SF for PV and Arcadia.

“Markets have paused rather hard since March of 2024, and like deep sea fishing, we set our lines in the water. Inventory has been ticking up, but all lines tend to hit at once when you strike that school of fish, so we really think lower rates can be that catalyst from the bottom up.”

And for cash buyers, Katrina says the story of 2024 was that buyers will pay for what they want, so it’s encouraging to see spec boundaries on the high-end pushed to new levels of design.

“The first salable home in the $40 million mark has hit public MLS and we are enthused and encouraged if $20 million can become a liquid level in PV.”

Katrina notes her listing at 5738 N Casa Blanca Drive in Paradise Valley (MLS# 6762392) on the market for $42,500,000 (pictured).

“Our philosophy remains on being an advisor over a salesperson. Our team stops at nothing to ensure clients receive the best experience start to finish. We’re where luxury lives.”

Scott Grigg

Grigg’s Group powered by The Altman Brothers

Native Phoenician Scott Grigg is consistently ranked as one of the top realtors in the Valley. His team maintains a reputation of providing exceptional service to a variety of clientele, including developers, professional athletes, entertainers, CEOs, and business owners.

“Paradise Valley simply stands out with proximity to the best of everything. People love the choice between hillside living and spacious flat lots—many being around one acre or more, giving homeowners a lot of breathing room,” he says.

Scott attributes Paradise Valley’s rapid growth to our sought-after lifestyle.

“The influx of out-of-state buyers has energized our business. It requires us to dive deeper into understanding the area— everything from pricing to what unique amenities Paradise Valley has to offer.”

When we asked Scott how this flurry to PV is impacting business, he said low inventory is buzzworthy. In fact, it’s becoming quite a challenge for buyers to find the homes they want, which is pushing prices up.

“With limited availability of view lots, prices are doubling within the last few years. It’s impacting construction costs as well.”

Scott also credits the area’s substantial desirability to lock-and-leave options within amazing communities, such as his listings with Cullum Homes.

“Our Cullum Homes communities offer hotel amenities, golf course and country

Jeremy Takas

Silver Sky Developer/

In 2019, when Paradise Valley first emerged as one of the nation’s priciest zip codes, the supply of newly built homes was three times greater than it is today.

“Since then, new home sales have decreased each year resulting in a tighter housing market. This supply-and-demand gap was amplified during the 2020 pandemic, as millionaires from across the country moved to the area and put down roots,” says Jeremy Takas, Silver Sky Developer/Managing Partner. Jeremy Takas is the managing partner at the Silver Sky Development. He says the highly anticipated community of Silver Sky represents one of the last remaining parcels of land available for development.

“Finding an available lot for new construction in PV is difficult and most new homes are scattered between older, renovated estates. Silver Sky, however, features 12 newly developed lots ranging from 1.1 to 1.5 acres. There, residents can enjoy the rare chance to move into a community of brand-new luxury homes, surrounded by like-minded individuals in award-winning estates,” says Jeremy.

Jeremy attributes our thriving economic environment attracting transplants from out-of-staters seeking more space, less crime, and a lower tax burden. However, with a limited supply of new homes and an increasing demand for buyers, it’s no surprise PV has risen in the ranks as one of the most expensive zip codes in the country.

“We’ve seen strong demand for our pre-construction homes. We have four custom-built lots that sold out quickly and have two fully designed showcase homes that break ground soon.”

According to Jeremy, Silver Sky is setting a new standard for luxury homes in Paradise Valley. Forbes recently featured Silver Sky’s Lot 6, Nova, after it won the prestigious “Best in American Living Award,” followed by several Iconic Awards for Excellence in Architecture and Design.

“Nova is a 12,000 square-foot European transitional estate, blending timeless architectural charm with modern amenities, designed by Stratton Architects. It’s set for expected completion by the end of 2025.”

Lot 11, Aquarius, also earned acclaim. The Mexican Modern estate features a rooftop viewing deck offering breathtaking views of Mummy Mountain.

“We foresee elevated luxury living trends like infra-red saunas, yoga studios, wine cellars, bowling alleys, art/music rooms and meditation areas. Also, smart home technology is no longer a luxury, it’s expected. Looking ahead, homes will feature voice-activated controls, facial recognition, biometric security systems, and AI-powered management systems.”

In addition, as we embark on a new year, Jeremy anticipates generational living and guest quarters emerging as a major home design trend for 2025. Homeowners are increasingly prioritizing the comfort and privacy of guests by incorporating secondary primary suites and spacious casitas.

Frank

Frank DiMaggio is consistently selling over $100 million in real estate a year with plans to grow to $200 million by 2026.

“We have that added layer of being builders who not only understand the real estate side, but also, design and build. Because of this, our business has exploded,” says Frank DiMaggio, Founder MDF Development and Managing Partner of Compass.

According to Frank, the flock to PV and surrounding areas is due to a higher quality of life and lower taxes.

“With all the new buyers, cost of construction is on the rise, it takes time to build new homes, and inventory for good houses is low.  Putting all those factors together results in the perfect storm for huge price increases.  And truth be told, I don’t see things slowing down,” says Frank.

Over 2024, Frank says Paradise Valley homes averaged $5-$10 million.  However, he predicts trades ranging $15-$25 million over the next few years.

“My advice for buyers is the same thing I would tell them any other year: don’t try to time the market.  Buy as soon as you’re able, and over time, there is no better investment than Arizona, or more specifically, PV real estate.”

And Scottsdale’s not far behind. In fact, Frank claims Scottsdale is becoming what PV used to be.

“There are areas of Scottsdale where tear-downs were once $500,000 and no one was interested. However, those same houses are now $1,250,000 and developers are tearing them down to service $5-$6 million buyers that are priced out of Paradise Valley.  The Scottsdale market is going to have a huge uptick in tear downs and remodels in 2025 and beyond.”

In 2023, Frank says he sold the most expensive lot on a price-per-square-foot basis in the history of Arizona. He put a deal together for $7,000,000 for a little over 1.2 acres.

“This year (2024), I’m putting together the deal for the most expensive vacant lot for a single residence in Arizona history at $12,500,000 for 5 acres in PV.  This further proves that we are firmly rooted as a town where we’re going to see homeowners and spec builders doing projects from $15 million to $40-$50 million. We are proud to be in the forefront of many of those new mega deals coming to market whether as the builder, the real estate agent, or in many instances, both.”

Congratulations to Forbes “Best-in-State Wealth Advisors” 2024 list, published on April 3, 2024. Rankings based on data as of June 30, 2023.

Known for his luminescent colors in authentic portrayals of Native Americans and the American West’s iconic landscapes and structures, Tom Gilleon is one of the most revered masters in the Contemporary Western art movement.

“Tom Gilleon breaks the mold, setting a new standard for artists,” says Chris Warden, Executive Director of the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana.

Chris Warden, the Executive Director of the C.M. Russell Museum, spoke those words of praise at his museum’s grand opening of Inner Light: The Art of Tom Gilleon, an epic 90-painting retrospective that began its widely admired public journey earlier this year at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West.

And speaking of the Desert Southwest, while Tom lives and paints in Montana, he regularly visits Arizona to enjoy his other favorite pastime… golf.

Here’s a look at Tom’s impressive background and resume- his ever-evolving and downright fascinating career path and passion.

A BLANK CANVAS IN THE SAND

Such soaring talent had its start in humble, nurturing surroundings.

“I grew up amongst towering pines and a yard made of white sand,” says Tom of his Florida childhood home with no electricity.

Tom was raised by a Scottish-immigrant grandfather and Cherokee grandmother. Often, his granddad would tell him stories by kerosene lamplight, illustrating them before Tom’s eyes with his own illustrations of sailing ships and sea monsters.

His grandma, meanwhile, taught Tom self-sufficiency; how to live off the land and to trust his own abilities and imagination.

“Our sandy yard became my never-ending blank canvas upon which I would draw with a stick,” he says.

Tom recalls getting his first boxed set of crayons recalling their pristine smelling of warm wax.

“Seeing those colors excited me with their potential to express mood and feeling.”

Growing up, Tom also developed other talents, including athleticism.

“In my youth when I wasn’t honing my artistic skills, I would spend hours hurling rocks from a nearby railroad track. My throwing arm became so strong that it helped earn me a baseball scholarship to the University of Florida.”

The academic support, however, also required him to commit to pursuing an architecture degree… but that was not in the cards for Tom.

“Despite my pitching talent, I left college and, much to my family’s dismay, joined the Navy.”

In 1961, while attending the Navy’s Electronics Radio School, Tom was chosen to march in John F. Kennedy’s inaugural parade. Following graduation, he flew on anti-submarine patrols in the North Atlantic, and in 1962, he served aboard the USS Rankin, a naval attack cargo ship. As a cryptographer, he was privy to highly classified information.

FROM NASA TO DISNEY

Those experiences helped Tom transfer back into the civilian working world.

“I was eventually hired as a communications specialist by Pan American World Airlines, a defense contractor involved in America’s move toward space. Eventually, Pan Am’s art department discovered my artistic talents, and they reassigned me to illustrate for NASA’s Saturn and Apollo space programs.”

Soon, Tom’s knack for bringing imagined worlds to life drew the attention of another organization: the Walt Disney Company. Assignments to help illustrate the company’s visions for EPCOT led to full-time work with Walt Disney Imagineering, first in Florida, and then at company headquarters in Burbank, California.

“PURE EMOTION THROUGH COLOR”

As a Walt Disney Imagineer for 25 years, Tom worked alongside Disney art legend Herb Ryman and dozens of other worldclass artists inventing concepts for EPCOT and Disneyland theme parks in Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.

“Disney illustrators paint in pure emotion through color. Working alongside legendary artists provided me with the best education.”

And the Walt Disney Company, in turn, benefitted immensely from Tom’s exceptional talents.

“Tom had the genius to encapsulate in one image the entirety of an imagined world,” says Bob Weis, former President of Walt Disney Imagineering, in an essay he shares in the exhibition catalog for Inner Light.

Not surprisingly, the Walt Disney Company generously loaned 12 original Gilleon oil paintings for the artist’s retrospective show.

In 1982, Tom went on a painting retreat in Montana, a trip that changed his heart, soul and life forever.

“I had never been to Montana and fell in love immediately.”

During that week, he put a deposit on a piece of land overlooking the Dearborn River where he built his first home and studio. Not long after, though he continued to do assignments for Disney, Tom moved to Montana and began his transition into a career as a fine artist.

Phoenix! He is a fourth-generation engineer with a background in mathematics and computer science - fields that demand precision and accuracy. Combining these disciplines with the artistry of a Plastic Surgeon allows him to create natural results that have earned him thousands of 5-star reviews. With prestigious degrees and training from Duke University, Johns Hopkins Medicine, and the University of Washington, Dr. Prucz is one of the best trained and most respected surgeons in the Valley.

THE RISE OF PLASTIC SURGERY HOLIDAY GIFTS

When it comes to holiday gifting, choose a more personal gift than the latest tech or winter wear. Plastic surgery and cosmetic treatments have made their way to the top of holiday wishlists, with more people treating themselves—or a loved one—to a refreshed look just in time for the new year.

Why The Holidays?

Time off from work and winter breaks offer the perfect recovery window for surgeries like facelifts, eyelid surgery, or mommy makeovers. These procedures often require only a few days to weeks of downtime, making the year-end break the perfect time for some “self care”. Plus, family visits often provide extra support during your recovery.

Whether you’re looking for a dramatic transformation or a quick pickme-up, there are plenty of options. A facelift smooths wrinkles and skin sagging to give you a fresh and youthful look. Eyelid surgery restores a bright, rested appearance by eliminating puffiness and drooping eyelids. And finally, the “mommy makeover,” combines breast and body procedures to help moms reclaim their pre-baby figure.

While major surgeries may be on some wish lists, not everyone is looking for a big transformation. For those seeking minimal downtime, Botox and dermal fillers provide renewed confidence that’s hard to beat as a holiday gift.

Whether you’re considering giving the gift of a procedure or booking one for yourself, consult early with a board-certified Plastic Surgeon. At Phoenix Plastic Surgery, we are in the holiday spirit so mention this article when you call. While beauty gifts might not be traditional, they can be a wonderfully personal present, and what better time than the holidays to invest in feeling good.

CELEBRATING NATIVE CULTURE

Living amidst a landscape steeped in Native culture, and keenly aware of his own heritage passed down through his grandmother, Tom naturally gravitated towards American Indian subjects.

“One day I decided to do a painting of a tipi I’d erected outside. I remember thinking it might be a waste of canvas and paint, but it sold immediately, and my gallery wanted more.”

Tom’s tipi paintings have become a defining aspect of his fine art career. He also began creating large-scale portraits of revered Native American leaders from the past . Such paintings have been sought out by private collectors and added to the collections of top museums nationwide, as well as those of NASA, the United States Air Force, The Walt Disney Company, Universal Studios, and Warner Bros. Studios.

And he keeps achieving new milestones.

Tom’s 72 x 60-inch oil painting  Mourning Star, for example, sold for $350,000 in 2021. In addition, his 50 x 80-inch oil painting  Dirge with Black Feet  sold for $375,000 at The Autry Museum’s 25th Annual Masters of the American West exceeding previous records.

“WHAT WOULD REMBRANDT DO?”

When it comes to such soaring visions, nothing quite compares to Tom’s latest innovative explorations in digital art.

One highlight of the Inner Light exhibition is the world debut of Spirit Catcher, Tom’s stunning 22-minute triptych digital painting inspired in part by the ethnographic photographs of Native Americans.

“Disney illustrators paint in pure emotion through color. Working alongside legendary artists provided me with the best education.”

In fact, Tom was recently honored to participate in the first art exhibit on the Moon by the Lunar Museum of Art (“LUMA”), which created the first NFT in space on the International Space Station. Twelve digital images of Gilleon’s art have been stored on a server delivered to the surface of the Moon on a SpaceX rocket.

“LUMA is the anchor art museum in a cultural arts center experienced on the Moon in virtual reality,” says Tom. “Celebrating Earth’s emerging spacefaring civilization, I am a proud founding member of LUMA’s ‘First Artists.’”

WELCOMING TOM GILLEON’S ART INTO YOUR OWN HOME

Through his exclusive representatives at the KingArts agency, Tom Gilleon’s work is expanding availability to a wider audience. Ideal for holiday gifting, people can now purchase signed limited-edition prints on canvas, Gilleon jigsaw puzzles and tipi greeting cards.

Unplugged with Kyle Unfug

The bubbly blond from Johnjay and Rich recaps her top 10 moments of 2024

As we bid farewell to 2024, Kyle Unfug shares her top 10 Johnjay and Rich highlights from the year.

10. Lovepup and Bluey

Our 2024 Lovepup Family Fest featured a special guest… BLUEY! Like most moms with young kids, our family is Bluey-obsessed. I was pumped to have my kids get a meet-and-greet with the blue dog, but my son has an immense fear of mascots, so to my dismay, he opted out of meeting Bluey.

9. Our Show’s Olympics

In true Johnjay and Rich fashion, we decided to hold our own Olympics in lieu of the summer games. We ran the torch around our building and did foot races with trash can hurdles.

8. Scottsdale’s Taylor Swift- themed Airbnb

When Lavender Haze Playce , the Taylor Swift-themed Airbnb, opened in Scottsdale, we scored a first look. The rental has gone viral, curated by celebrity interior designers and redesigned with some of Swift’s most memorable moments. Bedrooms flaunt multiple eras spanning 1989, Folklore, Evermore, and Reputation.

7. Jay Pharaoh in studio

One of the funniest moments of 2024 was when Jay Pharaoh dropped by the studio to promote his comedy show. He does incredible impressions and has such a fun personality. Our radio interviews usually last about 8 minutes, but we chatted with Jay for a half hour! Check him out on IG… he has over a million followers.

6. Rich’s daughter’s graduation

I’ve been working with Johnjay and Rich over 15 years, so we undoubtedly share family milestones together.  This year, we got to celebrate Rich’s daughter Audrey’s high school graduation.  It’s wild because when I joined the show, she was 3 years old! Our radio team is like family.

5. Waste Management 2024

I’ve coined a term within the Johnjay and Rich show: “SHWANDING,” which means: “show bonding.”  It’s my term for events we do together as a team. One of my most beloved “shwanding” moments of the year was braving the rain at the WMPO. Due to weather, they stopped the actual golf tournament, but that didn’t stop our posse from having a good time.

4. Teddy Swims swings by the show

We had artist Teddy Swims in studio for an interview and surprised him with a bunch of puppies. As he cuddled one of the dogs, there was a magical moment when Swims teared up, sharing his dog had recently crossed the rainbow bridge. Raw with emotion, he shared how healing it was to slow down and snuggle with some sweet healing pups.

3. Meeting Ellen K

There’s an annual event called “Morning Show Boot Camp” where morning shows from all over the country come together to share ideas, attend seminars, and collaborate.  For the first time, our team attending together, and my personal highlight was meeting Ellen K. Ellen K is literally a radio legend and currently hosts a big morning show in Los Angeles. Meeting her was a dream come true. 7

2. Grant’s wedding in Vegas

The ultimate SHWANDING event of the year was our trip to Vegas for the wedding of our show member, Grant Inman. Grant and Caitlin’s ceremony was gorgeous; we were all blessed to witness their special day.

1. Addie, my girl

My 10-year-old daughter begged to come to work with me over fall break.  I had her come in and she got to host a game on the show and her giant personality truly shined.  It was a proud mama moment for sure. Addie even told me she wants to be on the radio when she is older, like me! It was a moment I will never forget.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY FOUR SEASONS

Bora Bora, dubbed the “Pearl of the Pacific,” is a dream destination for travelers seeking unparalleled beauty, luxurious accommodations, and unforgettable experiences.

Nestled within the clearest turquoise waters of the French Polynesia, Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora stands out as a premier family-friendly escape sought-after by visitors worldwide. This idyllic retreat offers not only stunning scenery but also a wealth of activities and amenities that make it a top choice for families looking to create lasting memories together.

LUXURIOUS OVERWATER BUNGALOWS AND VILLAS

One of the most iconic aspects of a stay at Four Seasons Bora Bora is the opportunity to experience its luxurious overwater bungalows and beachfront villas.

The spacious bungalows, many featuring private pools and expansive decks, offer breathtaking views of the lagoon and the majestic Mount Otemanu.

Families can enjoy the thrill of stepping directly from their bungalow into the crystal-clear waters below, where colorful fish and vibrant coral reefs await exploration.

Swimming right from your accommodation becomes a daily adventure, making it easy to explore the underwater beauty of Bora Bora (you’ll likely spot turtles and eagle rays).

Bungalow amenities include spacious living areas, multiple bedrooms, glass-bottom bathrooms, and plush amenities ensuring comfort for the entire family.

KID-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES

Four Seasons Bora Bora goes above and beyond to cater to families, offering a range of entertaining and engaging age-appropriate activities for children. The resort’s Kids for All Seasons program provides a supervised environment for children allowing parents some well-deserved R&R. Activities include arts and crafts, nature walks, sports, swimming, snacking and traditional Polynesian immersions, such as dance lessons.

Drinks and food can be enjoyed at the restaurant, by the pool, or while relaxing on beachfront palapas.

There’s also a fantastic sushi restaurant with a menu crafted to highlight the flavors of the Pacific while incorporating classic Japanese techniques. In addition, Arii Moana flaunts a mix of enchanting Mediterranean dishes.

For a unique dining experience, opt for a private beach barbecue or a romantic dinner on your bungalow deck serenaded by seclusion and the sounds of the ocean.

THE BEACH

The beach at Four Seasons Bora Bora is the epitome of paradise. It boasts powdery white sands that

gently slope into crystal-clear turquoise waters. Framed by lush palm trees and the backdrop of the dramatic Mount Otemanu, the scenery is nothing short of breathtaking.

A major advantage of staying at the property is exclusive access to pristine beach areas reserved for resort guests. This ensures a safe, serene and uncrowded experience, allowing families, couples, and solo travelers to enjoy the natural beauty of Bora Bora in a peaceful setting. Whether you’re lounging in a cabana or enjoying a leisurely swim, the beach feels like a private sanctuary.

The waters of the lagoon are notably calm and shallow, making it an excellent spot for swimming, especially for families with children. The gentle waves provide a safe environment for young swimmers to explore and enjoy the refreshing lagoon without the strong currents often found in ocean settings.

The resort offers a dedicated concierge service that assists with any given personalized request. Guests can enjoy seamless transportation with luxury boat transfers to and from the airport. The resort offers private yacht charters for those looking to explore the surrounding islands or simply enjoy a day out on the water in style. Flights are around 8 hours direct from LAX or SFO through the main island of Tahiti.

FROM VINTAGE TO VOGUE: PEARLS MAKE A STUNNING COMEBACK

Myranda North Molina: The Princess of Pearls

“My grandmother always wore a stunning strand of pearls. I admired their luster and shine caught by the light,” says Myranda North Molina, owner of Myranda Fine Jewelry.

At 19 years old, Myranda North Molina got her first set of freshwater pearls. They made her feel very feminine.

“I recently handed them down to my daughter as a wedding present, as they were a gift from her father who has since passed away. It was the most cherished gift I could give her,” says Myranda.

As the owner of Myranda Fine Jewelry, Myranda says the classic pearl is making a comeback for 2025, being reimagined in fresh, modern designs.

“Pearls are all-inclusive pieces that compliment everyone.”

Pearls, traditionally associated with vintage elegance, are now a symbol of versatility and individuality, showcasing their ability to transition seamlessly from timeless to edgy. This resurgence is fueled by a renewed appreciation for unique textures and forms, with baroque and irregular shapes gaining popularity.

“The trend of layering pearls with other materials and incorporating them into streetwear reflects a shift toward bold, statement-making pieces that challenge traditional norms and celebrate the beauty of this gem.”

According to Myranda, round pearls hold the most value. Specifically, the most sought-after is the freshwater or Akoya. She specializes in all pearl collections, including Tahitian and rare South Seas.

“Main factors that contribute to the quality and value of a pearl include: nacre, luster, surface, shape, color, and size.”

Myranda says pearl color is also to be considered. This includes bodycolor (overall color of the pearl), overtone (one or more translucent colors that lie over the bodycolor), and orient (iridescent colors that provide a shimmer just below the surface of the pearl). Not all pearls will possess all three characteristics which makes shopping for pearls fun and unique.

“Pearls start at a few hundred dollars and go up to a few hundred thousand.  Do not get caught up in the facts of the pearlsgo with what speaks to you.”

At Myranda Fine Jewelry, they hand-select each pearl, in addition to using one of the top pearl distributors in the world.

“Our custom pearl pieces are hand-strung by our in-house pearl stringer. We add a unique touch because the clasp of each strand is custom-made and hand-selected by our team and purchasing client. To enhance customization, we add rare stones like diamonds, rubies, and emeralds. We use all shapes, all lusters, all budgets, and all sizes. We are an esteemed jeweler to create custom pearl masterpieces.”

Welcome to the practice of Sheridan James, M.D. Concierge medicine is all about fostering deep, personal connections between doctor and patient. It goes beyond traditional care by providing a physician who is not only readily available, but also invested in truly understanding every aspect of their patients’ health and well-being. I value this personalized approach allowing me to tailor care, anticipate needs, and provide guidance that aligns with my patient’s unique goals.

More than just a healthcare provider, I am a trusted advocate, working side-by-side with you throughout your entire health journey, ensuring you receive the best possible care and support at every step.

Per Myranda, the main distinguisher between pearls and other gemstones are their unique origins. They form within various species of freshwater and saltwater mollusks. Each pearl has a unique story.

“Tahitian pearls are unique in that their luster can give off a black, green, or purple tone. This makes the piece distinctive. They bring a different, yet luxurious look to any pearl piece.”

Speaking of luxe, Myranda says South Sea pearls are most unique in origin and exquisite appearance. They are the largest cultured pearl and take a long time to grow… up to five years per pearl. They are produced by a specific type of oyster and can only produce one at a time. This makes them exceptionally rare and valuable compared to other pearl types.

“Pearls are versatile and can be styled for everyday wear or worn as a piece for special occasions. My favorite way to wear pearls is with a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans. Pearls can be layered, particularly with Tahitian pearls, giving off a bold, eternal look.”

It’s essential to keep pearl jewelry in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box to prevent scratches. If the pieces are worn often, a professional cleaning and restringing annually is recommended. To maintain, use a delicate cloth with warm soapy water. Keep pearls away from perfumes, hairspray, and cleaning agents.

What are some tips to follow while dining out this holiday season if I’m pregnant?

I address this exact topic, and more, on my podcast with James Beard Foundation Awardwinning chef Christopher Gross. Being pregnant does not mean that you cannot dine out or have an amazing upscale dinner. However, it does mean that you have to take some initiative in your food choices and how you order. Here are some tips:

1) Avoid unpasteurized cheeses. Common examples include Brie, queso fresco, and feta.

2) Ask that any meat is cooked thoroughly. Ideally meat should be cooked to above 165 ⁰F.

3) Avoid alcohol consumption. There is no “safe” amount of alcohol consumption during pregnancy.

Learn more about how best to advocate for yourself at a restaurant, and expand your knowledge surrounding topics like listeria and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, by scanning the QR code and visiting Dr. Lexi’s YouTube channel.

Making Spirits

JOIN OUR MISSION TO SPREAD WARMTH AND COMPASSION BY NOMINATING SOMEONE WHO DESERVES A CHRISTMAS BLESSING

“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way.”

As the Christmas season approaches, we’re reminded of the power of community and kindness. This year, through City Lifestyle’s nonprofit, The Kingdom Building Foundation, we will help people who may be struggling quietly without the support they need. But we need your help to find them.

Over the past three years, this campaign has grown into something truly beautiful, touching the lives of more than 150 families nationwide last year alone. Each year, we’ve seen firsthand how generosity can bring relief, hope, and a renewed sense of faith in others.

One person we had the opportunity to help was an 11-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare eye cancer. After he had to undergo chemotherapy and surgery to remove his eye, his doctors recommended a prosthetic one, but insurance wouldn’t cover the cost, calling it “cosmetic.” When we heard his story, we knew we had to help. Because of this campaign, he got his prosthetic eye and a piece of his childhood back with it.

Another was a wife and mother of two who fought a yearlong health battle and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Just days before Christmas, she underwent surgery but passed away due to complications. Before her surgery, she received one of our cards and, in tears, told us this gift gave her some peace, knowing her family would have help in the difficult times ahead. It wasn’t just about the financial support but knowing that someone cared.

These stories remind us why this campaign is so meaningful. It’s not just

about writing checks; it’s about telling people they aren’t forgotten and that someone is there to lend a hand. It’s about giving families a moment of relief when the world feels unbearable.

“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”

Together with Matthew Perry, President, Steven adds that the gratitude from recipients was overwhelming, affirming this tradition’s importance. “We believe God has blessed our company with success,” Matthew adds, “so we want to be a blessing to others.”

We know many more people could use a little help this Christmas, and that’s where you come in. Do you know someone who could use a blessing? We want to hear about them.

To nominate someone, scan the QR code or follow @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the form in our bio. Nominations are open from November 27 to December 10, 2024. Let’s bring hope to those who need it most.

The City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is completely confidential. No identities will be revealed or publicized. All entries will be read, and selections and the amount given to each recipient will be based on the severity of the need. For more information, visit KingdomBuildingFoundation.org

WELLNESS GOALS for 2025

Moving Beyond Cliché Self-Care

As the founder of The Starlight House in Paradise Valley, my practice serves as a wellness sanctuary for innovative approaches to spiritual growth and self-renewal. Wellness goals are intentional steps aimed at improving your holistic health whether it’s setting boundaries for a better work-life balance, creating emotional release rituals, or finding time for personal growth. Such goals are crucial for maintaining mental, emotional, and physical health amidst the constant influx of digital content and life’s demands.

TIPS FOR A MORE PEACEFUL LIFESTYLE

• Embrace Micro-Meditations

Instead of long, obligatory meditation sessions, incorporate brief moments of mindfulness throughout your day, like minute-long breathing exercises. These mini-meditations offer a quick reset and reduce stress.

• Curate Your Consumption

This isn’t just about diet. Be intentional about what you consume mentally and emotionally—whether it’s news, social media, or conversations. Filtering negative content creates mental space for positive experiences.

• Emotional Unloading Rituals

Schedule a weekly "emotional spring cleaning" by writing down frustrations or joys and symbolically letting go— whether it’s tearing up the paper or safely burning it. This ritual helps bring you emotional clarity.
