Our Family, Children & Pets Issue
This issue holds a special place in my heart. Families are the heartbeat of our communities - immediate, extended, children, our pets, and those we choose to make and consider family.
As parents and caregivers, we put so much effort into nurturing the growth of our childrenteaching them, and investing in their futures. But let’s not forget that children also shape us—they bring joy, laughter, and meaning to our everyday lives.
And, we also cannot overlook the powerful role pets play in our families. They offer unconditional love and teach us valuable lessons in empathy, responsibility, and companionship. The bond between kids and their pets can be transformative, fostering deep emotional connections that last a lifetime. I know I see this with my own son and our crazy Aussiepoo, Harry!
This issue is dedicated to celebrating organizations in our community who support the growth and love of children and pets, as well as highlighting two local inspiring family stories - one, featuring one of our very own Collier County commissioners and his new bride, and another featuring a young family, both entrepreneurs in our Paradise Coast, pet owners, and have just celebrated their daughter's 1st birthday!
I hope this month’s issue inspires you to pour a little extra love into your families - whether they are near or far. They certainly are the ones who remind us of the simple joys and the importance of unconditional love in our lives.

FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Share a Mission to Help Others Feel Their Best
ARTICLE BY PCCL STAFF PHOTOGRAPHY BY CRISTINA URECHE, TINY BOX OF MEMORIES
For Christina Payton and Chris Ourganian, helping people isn't just what they do—it's who they are.
Known professionally throughout Naples as Christina Payton, owner of House of Blondes, Christina has built a career helping people look and feel their best. Her husband,
Christina
Ourganian
“We're both helping people feel better,” Christina says. “Just in different ways.”
Chris Ourganian, owner of Coastal Chiropractic, has dedicated his career to helping patients improve their health, restore mobility, and live with less pain.
While beauty and chiropractic care may seem like very different professions, the couple sees a common thread running through both. Whether it's through confidence, wellness, healing, or self-care, Christina and Chris have built careers centered around improving the lives of others. That shared purpose has become the foundation of their businesses, their family, and their commitment to the Naples community.
At House of Blondes, Christina has created more than a salon. She has built a place where people can relax, recharge, and invest in themselves. Every appointment is an opportunity to help someone feel more confident and leave a little happier than when they arrived.
Meanwhile, Chris approaches wellness from another perspective. Through Coastal Chiropractic,
he works closely with patients seeking relief from pain, improved movement, and a healthier quality of life. Together, the couple often jokes that Christina helps people feel their best on the outside while Chris helps them feel their best on the inside.
But for Christina, one of the most meaningful things she does happens outside the salon chair.
Each month, House of Blondes hosts what has become known as "Gift Day."
The concept is simple yet powerful. Members of the community nominate women through the salon's website or through a dedicated link in the salon's Instagram bio. The nominations often tell stories of women who have overcome tremendous challenges, faced difficult circumstances, or spent years putting everyone else's needs ahead of their own.
Once selected, the recipient is treated to a completely customized day of beauty, self-care, and wellness services—entirely free of charge.
Christina, Chris and Payton on a recent well-deserved vacation
There is no package, no limit, and no price tag.
"It's 100 percent donated," Christina explains. "There isn't a value attached to it because that's not the point. We give them whatever they need and whatever will make them feel special."
The entire House of Blondes team participates, donating their time and talents to create an unforgettable experience. Over the years, local businesses have also joined the initiative, contributing wellness treatments, self-care services, and other experiences to make each recipient's day even more meaningful.
For Christina, Gift Day has become one of the most rewarding parts of owning House of Blondes.
"Seeing someone walk in feeling unseen and leave feeling celebrated, appreciated, and confident is incredible," she says. "It's one of my favorite things that we do."
That spirit of giving extends well beyond the walls of the salon.
Christina is a passionate supporter of Path2Freedom, a nonprofit dedicated to helping survivors of human trafficking rebuild their lives and reclaim their futures. In fact, she is currently planning a major fundraiser at House of Blondes to support the organization's mission and raise awareness throughout the community.
The family is also deeply involved with Starability Foundation, a Naples-based nonprofit that empowers individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through social, educational, and vocational opportunities.
This year, Christina took that commitment a step further by hiring her first team member through Starability.
"She starts in August, and we couldn't be more excited," Christina says. "Creating opportunities and helping people grow is something that's incredibly important to us."
At home, that same spirit of love and purpose revolves around their daughter, Payton, who recently celebrated her first birthday.
For Christina and Chris, becoming parents has brought a new perspective to everything they do. Watching Payton grow, learn, and experience the world has strengthened their desire to create positive change both in their community and beyond.
"She has completely changed our lives in the best possible way," Chris says. "She reminds us every day of what truly matters."
Of course, no story about the Ourganian family would be complete without mentioning Blondie,
Christina, Chris, Payton, and their 4 doggies Blondie, Barley, Biscuit and Benny
Dr. Chris Ourganian, owner of Coastal Chiropractic & Wellness
“Stay tuned for more information regarding a fashion show fundraiser Christina is hosting at House of Blondes benefitting Path2Freedom in October 10th! We'll post more details on our Events page in our September Style issue...”
Barley, Biscuit, and Benny—the family's four beloved dogs and unofficial mascots.
Blondie, in particular, has become something of a celebrity around House of Blondes. Christina laughs that Blondie considers it her full-time job to report to work and snuggle clients.
"She gets upset if someone won't let her sit on their lap," Christina says. "She thinks every client comes in specifically to see her."
Given that her name is on the building, Blondie probably feels entitled to a few special privileges. As the salon's self-appointed director of client relations, she accompanies Christina to work most often, though Barley,
Biscuit, and Benny all make appearances from time to time.
Together, the four pups, one busy toddler, and two purpose-driven entrepreneurs create a home filled with love, laughter, and plenty of joyful chaos.
Whether helping someone regain confidence in a salon chair, recover from pain, find opportunity through employment, or rebuild a life after hardship, Christina Payton and Chris Ourganian share a simple belief: making a difference starts with caring for people.
And from the inside out, they're doing exactly that.

Summer of GROWTH
Creating Positive Childhood Experiences
ARTICLE BY GRAVINA, SMITH, MATTE & ARNOLD PHOTOGRAPHY BY YOUTH HAVEN
For many children, summer is a season filled with camps, family vacations, pool days and new adventures. It is a time to make memories, explore new interests and enjoy the freedom that comes with a break from the school year. For the children and teens residing at Youth Haven in Naples, summer can mean something even more significant: a chance to experience stability, build confidence, form meaningful connections and simply be kids again.
The children and teens who come to Youth Haven have experienced abuse, neglect, homelessness and significant trauma. Many arrive feeling uncertain, anxious and disconnected from the normal childhood experiences that help young people grow and thrive. For some, trust has been broken. For others, daily life has been marked by instability and hardship. Summer provides an important opportunity to help change that narrative.
For more than five decades, Youth Haven has provided a safe and supportive environment for vulnerable children and teens throughout Southwest Florida. Through its mission of providing Home, Hope and Healing, the organization offers residential care, counseling, educational
support and life-skills development designed to help young people overcome challenges and build brighter futures.
Throughout the summer months, Youth Haven combines the safety and structure of its residential programs with enriching activities designed to help children build resilience, develop healthy relationships and create positive memories. These experiences are carefully planned to support emotional well-being while encouraging personal growth and self-discovery.
Through camps, educational outings, recreational activities, volunteer-led experiences and community partnerships, youth are exposed to opportunities
that encourage exploration, learning and confidence-building. Whether spending a day at a local attraction, participating in sports and fitness activities, attending summer camps or enjoying movie nights and group outings, these experiences allow children to engage in the kinds of activities many of their peers enjoy throughout the summer.
While these activities may seem simple, their impact can be profound. For many youth, healing begins in everyday moments. A shared laugh during a group activity, a new friendship formed at camp, learning a new skill or the
accomplishment of trying something for the first time can leave a lasting impression. These experiences help restore a sense of normalcy and remind children that their future does not have to be defined by their past.
Summer also provides opportunities for youth to strengthen social skills and build healthy relationships with peers and trusted adults. Participating in group activities encourages teamwork, communication and cooperation while helping children gain confidence in themselves and their abilities. These experiences often become important building blocks as they continue their journey toward healing and independence.
The success of Youth Haven's summer programming is made possible in large part through the generosity of community partners, volunteers and supporters who help create opportunities that many of these children might not otherwise experience. From educational enrichment programs and outdoor adventures to recreational outings and special events, these partnerships help ensure that youth feel connected, valued and supported by the broader community.
Beyond the fun and excitement, summer remains an important season of growth. Through trauma-informed care, counseling services, educational support and enrichment opportunities, Youth Haven continues to help children rebuild trust, develop coping skills and strengthen their emotional well-being. These efforts also help prepare youth for a successful return to the classroom when the new school year begins.
Each experience, no matter how small it may seem, contributes to a larger goal: helping children recognize their strengths, believe in their potential and develop hope for the future. The confidence gained during a summer camp activity, the encouragement received from a mentor or the friendships formed through shared experiences can have lasting effects long after summer ends.
By the time the season comes to a close, many youth leave with far more than memories. They carry forward new skills, stronger relationships, increased self-esteem and a renewed sense of possibility. Most importantly, they gain experiences that remind them they are valued, supported and capable of achieving great things.
At Youth Haven, summer is about more than keeping children occupied while school is out. It is about creating opportunities for healing, growth and joy. It is about helping children rediscover what it means to simply be a child—and ensuring they have the support they need to build a brighter future.

MORE Than a SHELTER
How Patty Baker Humane Society Naples is Expanding its Impact
ARTICLE BY GRAVINA, SMITH, MATTE & ARNOLD
PHOTOGRAPHY BY PATTY BAKER HUMANE SOCIETY NAPLES
For more than 65 years, Patty Baker Humane Society Naples has served as a trusted resource for pets and the people who love them. As Collier County’s largest nonprofit animal shelter, they work each day to provide compassionate care for animals in need while creating opportunities for connection, companionship and community engagement.
PBHSN has grown alongside the community it serves. While helping animals find loving homes remains at the heart of our mission, their work now extends beyond adoption. From expanding access to veterinary care and resources that help keep pets with their families to fostering community partnerships and engagement opportunities, they are committed to improving the lives of animals while strengthening the communities they call home.
One of the most important ways PBHSN supports animals and their families is by offering affordable veterinary care, helping to ensure pets receive the services they need to live healthy, happy lives. In May 2026, PBHSN began welcoming new patients to its Yawney Family Veterinary Clinic, giving community members access to high-quality, affordable care.
Broadening this commitment outside of the clinic, PBHSN brings essential veterinary services directly into underserved neighborhoods throughout Collier County through the Patty & Jay Baker Mobile Veterinary Clinic. By helping to remove barriers such as transportation, cost and access to care, this program provides preventive services, vaccinations and wellness care to pets whose owners may otherwise struggle to keep animals healthy and in the homes where they belong.
Keeping pets with their families is central to PBHSN's mission, which is why they offer programs designed to support pet owners during challenging times. Through the Denny Plesea Pet Food
PBHSN's innovative A Tale for a Tail program helps young readers build confidence while providing enrichment and socialization for cats awaiting adoption.
PBHSN recently began welcoming new patients to the Yawney Family Veterinary Clinic, providing more residents with access to affordable vet care.
Pantry, families facing financial hardship can access dog and cat food for their pets. Their Operation Rescue program provides temporary emergency shelter for pets when owners are navigating personal crises, ensuring animals remain safe and cared for while helping prevent unnecessary surrenders.
Ultimately, animal welfare is a community effort. That’s why PBHSN continues to invest in partnerships and programs that bring people together, creating meaningful opportunities for residents to volunteer, foster, support and experience the positive impact animals can have on everyday life.
In 2026, 550+ runners, walkers and their 4-legged friends participated in PBHSN’s annual Run for the Paws 5K. The 2027 event is scheduled for Jan at PCSC.
Solana is currently available for adoption at the PBHSN Main Shelter, 370 Airport-Pulling Road N.
PBHSN’s annual Pet Lovers Gala directly supports PBHSN’s lifesaving work, from medical care and behavioral support to finding every animal a loving home.
This year, PBHSN launched Couch Crashers, a low-commitment fostering program that gives shelter dogs the opportunity to enjoy a short stay in a home environment. Whether recovering from illness, awaiting adoption or simply needing a break from the shelter, even a few days in foster care provides animals with individualized attention in a less stressful setting.
Foster homes play a vital role in PBHSN’s lifesaving work throughout the year, especially during periods of high intake. Through Couch Crashers or longer-term fostering, volunteers provide a safe, supportive setting where animals can feel secure and thrive. PBHSN works closely with foster families to match animals with their home, lifestyle and comfort level, while providing the resources needed for a successful experience.
They understand that not everyone can adopt or foster, but community members can still play an active role in helping animals in need. PBHSN offers a variety of ways for community members to get involved, from volunteering and attending events to supporting programs that benefit pets and their families.
Through their A Tale for a Tail program, children can read to cats at the PBHSN main shelter. This innovative experience helps young readers build confidence while providing enrichment and socialization for cats awaiting adoption.
They also offer a variety of events, such as their annual race, where community members are welcome to come, enjoy and learn more about our mission. In 2026, more than 550 runners, walkers and their fourlegged companions participated in the exciting event. PBHSN will host its 21st Run for the Paws 5K in January at the Paradise Coast Sports Complex.
Community members can also support PBHSN by attending its annual Pet Lovers Gala. Scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21, 2027, the gala directly supports our lifesaving work, from medical care and behavioral support to finding every animal a loving home.
Patty Baker Humane Society Naples
At PBHSN, they believe that together we can ensure more pets find lasting homes and more families have access to the resources they need. Whether you adopt, foster, volunteer or attend an event, your support helps to save lives and strengthen the bond between pets and people.

CONGRATULATIONS Newlyweds! TO THE
Commissioner Rick LoCastro & Julia GraceA Second Chapter, Written Together
Several years ago, while speaking at a political rally, Commissioner Rick LoCastro noticed a woman and her daughter standing attentively in the crowd. What struck him immediately was not only how well they were dressed for an outdoor event in the Florida heat, but the example she was setting. Here was a mother bringing her daughter to a political gathering to learn firsthand about civic engagement and democracy.
After the event, Rick briefly met that woman, Julia, and learned that she and her daughter, Valeria, had been born in Ukraine before becoming proud American citizens. They exchanged only a few words before going their separate ways and did not see each other again for many months.
Later that year, Julia reached out after remembering the rally and the message he had shared. She wanted to become more involved in the community, but felt overwhelmed by the number of events being promoted throughout Naples. She had seen information about an annual ceremony honoring fallen officers and first responders and enquired about attending. Rick explained that it was one of the most meaningful events he attended each year and Julia asked if she could join him in attendance.
They met separately in the parking lot and walked into the event together. As they sat through the ceremony, Rick began to see a side of Julia that left a lasting impression. She had chosen to wear a black dress to honor those being remembered, and throughout the program I could see how deeply she was moved by the stories and tributes. Her sincerity, compassion, and respect
for the significance of the event were unmistakable. Afterward, they exchanged a polite handshake and said goodbye.
Months passed before Julia reached out again, this time seeking recommendations on local social events. During our conversations, we realized we were both unattached and shared many interests, including travel, culture, and community involvement. We decided to attend a local musical event together and planned dinner beforehand.
What began as a simple evening out quickly became much more. We enjoyed great conversation, excellent food, music, and plenty of laughter. We discovered remarkable similarities in our experiences and outlook on life. Having both traveled extensively around the world, we found ourselves sharing stories and perspectives that created an immediate connection.
Several dinners followed, and as their friendship grew, so did their admiration for one another. Then, came a challenge. At the conclusion of what would be their last dinner in Naples before her upcoming travels, Rick asked about seeing her again. Julia smiled and explained that she was leaving for Milan and Paris Fashion Week, where she and her models would be showcasing designs from her company.
"If you want another date," she joked, "you'll have to meet me in Milan or Paris."
Rick accepted.
Because of Rick's responsibilities as a County Commissioner, Milan was not possible, but Paris was. A few days later, he found
himself sitting front row at her fashion show in Paris before they spent several unforgettable days exploring the city together.
Anyone who has experienced a genuine connection with someone understands that sharing a few days in Europe can accelerate a relationship. Paris provided the perfect backdrop to deepen what had already begun. While both had traveled extensively over the years, experiencing it together felt entirely different.
It was magical.
Over time, their relationship continued to grow through shared experiences and adventures. They traveled together throughout Italy on multiple occasions for both business and vacation, attended fashion events in New York, Orlando, and Miami Swim Week, and continued learning from one another's worlds.
Rick became fascinated by Julia's work in fashion and entrepreneurship, while she embraced the demands and responsibilities that come with public service and Rick's previous 24-year career in the Air Force. They also discovered a shared appreciation for patriotism, community, and family.
As our relationship evolved, we realized we had several mutual friends who knew us separately and were delighted to see our paths finally converge.
Eventually, we began planning a future together.
On April 18, surrounded by family and close friends, they celebrated their wedding at Sale e Pepe on Marco Island. The Gulf-front setting provided the perfect location for an intimate ceremony and reception.
Rather than scheduling a traditional sunset ceremony, they chose an earlier 5:30pm wedding, so that guests wouldn't be eating past 'Marco Midnight'.
Following the ceremony, guests moved inside for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres while the terrace was transformed into a reception space overlooking the Gulf.
The timing proved perfect.
Instead of watching a sunset during the ceremony, guests enjoyed a spectacular sunset while seated for dinner. As the sky turned shades of gold and orange over the water, everyone enjoyed a multi-course meal curated specifically for the occasion. By the time darkness settled in, dinner was concluding, the stars were visible overhead, and they were ready to cut the cake beneath a moonlit Gulf sky.
The wedding was truly centered around family.
Rick's son attended with his girlfriend and stood beside him as one of his groomsmen. His daughter
Their children and friends stood by their sides in their bridal party.
attended with her husband, while Julia's daughter, Valeria, served as both flower girl and bridesmaid. In a remarkable coincidence, their wedding day also happened to be Valeria's 12th birthday. Early in the reception, they surprised her with a special birthday cake and celebrated her milestone with everyone in attendance.
Rick's daughter Gina had also celebrated a birthday just days earlier, making the occasion even more meaningful, especially as she prepares to welcome their first grandchild.
The day carried additional emotional significance. Rick's mother had passed away just a few months earlier on December 27th. Though she could not be physically present, her spirit was felt throughout the celebration. She would have loved the Italian lemon theme, the incredible cuisine, and the joy shared among family and friends.
Like many couples finding love later in life, Julia and Rick often speak about life's chapters. They each cherish the experiences and memories that shaped them individually, but they are equally excited about the chapter they are now writing together. Blending their families and building a future as one has become one of life's greatest blessings.
Several moments from the wedding remain especially memorable:
One involved their longtime family friend Larry Swank, who officiated the ceremony. Until moments before the wedding, Larry believed he would simply walk down the aisle and take his place as pastor. Instead, Julia surprised him by asking him to walk her down the aisle.
The gesture was deeply meaningful. Larry and his wife, Andrea, have never had children, and he once mentioned that he would never have the opportunity to walk a daughter down the aisle. The surprise left him emotional and created a moment no one would forget.
Another unforgettable memory occurred during their first dance to Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love." Unbeknownst to them, one of the terrace drains sat directly beneath the dance floor area. Near the end of the song, Julia
“We each had full lives, families, careers, and experiences before meeting, but together we discovered something unexpected—a partnership built on shared values, mutual respect, adventure, family, and a genuine excitement for the future”, Rick said.
whispered, "My foot is stuck." Her heel had become lodged in the drain beneath her dress. After carefully removing her shoe and freeing the heel, they both laughed as photographers and guests dubbed it our "Cinderella moment."
The celebration was filled with countless thoughtful details. Chef Andrea Cirino personally designed a custom menu featuring homemade lemon ravioli and unique duet-style courses. Their wedding cake was a one-of-a-kind honey layer creation adorned with intricate Italian lemon-inspired artistry.
Although their guest list remained intentionally intimate, the evening felt grand in every way. Beautiful flowers, live strings, exceptional music, remarkable cuisine, and outstanding vendors combined to create a celebration beyond anything we could have imagined.
As guests departed, each received a personalized thank-you gift featuring custom limoncello and Norman Love lemon chocolates.
It was the perfect ending to a day that celebrated not only a wedding, but the beginning of an extraordinary new chapter together.
Their 'Cinderella moment'!
Julia stunned in a Milla Nova dress, seen here cascading down the interior steps of Sale e Pepe.

TREY & KATIE KENNEDY
ON MARRIAGE, KIDS, AND THE COMEDY OF REAL LIFE
Trey Kennedy makes a living finding comedy in regular life. Marriage. Toddlers. Yoga pants. The Thursday-night scramble between school dropoffs, soccer practice, and whatever has to be done by morning. Twelve years in, it shows: millions of followers across every platform, three stand-up specials, a sold-out Relatable Tour, and a style of humor fans send each other captioned, “Are you watching me?” He delivers the kind of comedy that travels because everyone’s living some version of it.
Katie, his wife of six years, is a former biomedical engineer who also built a modeling career. She’s now raising their kids and co-hosting Correct Opinions alongside Trey — the show where the two of them swap takes on marriage, parenting, and whatever came up that week.
Trey has been at this longer than people realize. An Edmond, Oklahoma kid who grew up playing basketball described himself as a “shy kid who never thought he’d be an entertainer.” He started making videos while attending Oklahoma State University. After building millions of followers on Vine before the platform shut down, he gave himself six months on Instagram and Facebook to see whether he could rebuild from zero. He did. Stand-up soon followed. His first special, Are You For Real?, streams on YouTube; the second, Grow Up, on Amazon Prime; the third, built around the Relatable Tour, wrapped earlier this year. “I’ve been trying to be funny every week for like twelve years now,” he says. A slow climb, made one bit at a time.
ARTICLE BY KALI KASPRZYK PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES
“I’ve been trying to be funny every week for like twelve years now.”
Most of what Trey writes lately starts in his own kitchen. Thomas is three and a half, and he is, in his father’s words, “a movie.” He narrates his own life from the moment his eyes open and mispronounces words in ways his parents now repeat to each other because no one else would believe them. His younger sister, Eva, is what Katie calls “the calm one.” With a third now in the mix, the Kennedys are officially outnumbered.
After six years of marriage, Trey and Katie have learned that the partnership runs best when it gets its own time on the calendar. So once a week, they leave the kids with a sitter and go out for coffee. “You need a system,” Katie says. “It’s about taking time to look each other in the eye. Not the kids. Not the cameras. Just each other.”
The same instinct shapes the work. Most of Trey’s trial and error happens onstage or on Instagram, but the first read is always Katie’s. “There’s only been one time ever I’ve had to be like, ‘you’re not doing that,’” she says. The rest of the time, she just laughs first.
