A Letter From The Publisher
Over 20 years ago Martina McBride released her hit song “This One’s For The Girls” with a message for women of all ages to live their lives with a confidence in who they are and what they can accomplish. And when it comes to our Papillion City Lifestyle issues, this one is for you, ladies!

I have been blessed with so many amazing women that have impacted my life in a positive way. My wife, my mother, and my grandmothers are the first to come to mind. I have also had the privilege to work for and be mentored by women business owners and managers. And now in my role as a publisher, I have the opportunity to connect with and hear the stories of women who are running amazing businesses right here in our community.
When we were putting together this issue, we asked the community to recommend female business owners to highlight in a special way. To say we had a positive response would be an understatement! We were flooded with nominations of women who are impacting others by the way they serve our community as business owners in their respective fields.
As you flip through these pages you will find them filled with the stories and expertise of female business owners doing extraordinary things in our community. We even kept this theme in our Business Monthly section so we could highlight as many female-owned businesses as possible.
McBride sings, “This one’s for the girls… who dream with everything they have.” The women highlighted in this issue dreamed big in their journey to become business owners, gave everything they had, and made their dreams reality. We celebrate each one of them, as well as every woman in our families and our community who is doing amazing things each and every day!
Have a great May everyone!

FROM Salsa to SAUCED
ARTICLE BY VINCE MANCUSO PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOSEPH SAAIDIn the heart of downtown Papillion is Sauced by Alfaro, a small scratch kitchen serving big flavors of traditional American fare as chef and owner Michelle Alfaro provides her creative culinary takes.
"I'm not culinarily trained," Michelle admits, "I just have a passion for food and people."
That passion led her to begin her path toward Sauced years ago. In 2018, while working for the City of Omaha, her son wanted to go on a mission trip to El Salvador, inspiring Michelle and her husband, Joe, to sell homemade salsa to assist in raising funds. An instant hit, they sold $700 worth on the first day.
"The next day, I felt that God was like, 'Call Hy-Vee and see what it would take to get there." After impressing grocery store staff, Michelle partnered with a Louisville diner, using its commercial kitchen at night to create salsa well into the early morning. "At that point, one of the scriptures I was reading was Proverbs 16:3, 'Commit to the Lord, and he will establish your plan.' So, I said, 'OK, goodbye comfort.'" Forgoing the comfort of her experience with government work, Michelle resigned from her job to craft salsa full-time.
MICHELLE ALFARO’S CULINARY JOURNEY FROM SALSA SALES TO AWARD-WINNING CHEF

“I’M NOT culinarily trained. I JUST HAVE A PASSION FOR food AND people.”

By 2019, Michelle and Joe began cooking in popups and farmer's markets. "People just loved the food. They were so excited about it. Then Covid happened."
Unable to get hired as a chef due to lack of training, Michelle wondered whether she had made a fatal error in pursuing what she believed was a higher calling in her career path. As often is the case with tests of faith, Michelle was given a choice between returning to familiar work with the government or working as a waitress to gain restaurant experience. After thought and prayer, she chose the latter.
Armed with what she had learned, Michelle and Joe found a location in Louisville, launching Sauced by Alfaro on Cinco de Mayo 2021. Despite her jokes about the "kitchen prison" atmosphere, online personalities and groups such as Omaha's Restaurant Hoppen and Omaha Food Lovers fell in love with the restaurant. The Louisville location soon became a destination spot, despite its lack of seating or air conditioning, and was voted Best New Restaurant in Omaha for 2023.
Though thrilled with the performance in Louisville, Michelle shares that she was happy to find a home in Papillion's downtown area with seating and an atmosphere. Continuing her success, Michelle was then voted Best Chef in Omaha for 2024.
"This is not possible on my own," Michelle says, recounting how, in November of 2022, she was diagnosed with cancer, requiring two surgeries in 2023. "I am officially cancer-free, and Sauced and the team absolutely killed it in recovery.”
Sharing this story through the Sauced by Alfaro social media, she began receiving messages from many women who were undergoing similar struggles, seeking prayer and finding encouragement from her story.
"Without God at the forefront and these people I've been blessed with, it wouldn't be working."
Such a story is part of why she believes God called her to cook in the first place and led her to Sauced's success.
"If I have a platform, it's important for me to share my story—and my story can't be told if God's not in it."

THE PERFECT PARTY
Decorating Tips From the Owner of Orange Love Party Store
ARTICLE BY AMY HENDRICKSON | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOSEPH SAAID
1. DECIDE ON A PARTY THEME
Once you have selected a theme, find decorations that coordinate with the party theme. Choose table centerpieces, hanging decorations, and string banners. Add in some solid color streamers for an extra touch.

CHOOSING TABLEWARE
When choosing table coverings and napkins, you can choose theme plates or a solid color. If you want to mix and match, set up a themed table covering for the birthday honoree while using solid color table settings for any additional tables.
BALLOONS ARE A MUST!
There are endless possibilities for the type of balloons that you can choose for a party: door balloon arches, balloon bouquets, a balloon pit with air-filled balloons, plus balloons to tie to mailboxes, signs, and chairs. If you want balloons to last more than a few days, make sure you get higher-quality balloons.

4. PINATAS ADD EXCITEMENT TO THE PARTY EXPERIENCE
Pinatas come in many different forms: the classic pinata, the mini pinata and the pullstring pinata where you pull a string to release the candy. No matter what style of pinata you choose, consider filling it with additional items like tattoos, stickers and bracelets that are sure to bring joy and laughter.

Orange Love owner, Lindsey Patton, has always gone wild over creating not just a party, but an experience. This passion was the driving force behind Patton opening Orange Love in September 2023. When asked why she named her store Orange Love, Patton explained, “Orange has always been my favorite color and ‘love’ came from all the family and friends that helped lay floors, paint walls, and cheer me on as we brought this dream to life.”
Orange Love, located at Brentwood Plaza in La Vista, does just that for others as well. It is the place where you can create the perfectly decorated party you envision for loved ones or add fun to your holiday gatherings. And for Patton that has always been the goal. “I just want to help others make memories that will last a lifetime,” she says.

FEWER DIZZY DAYS

Fit Right. Feel Great!

Let Your Wardrobe

Knowing your colors and style can improve your everyday appearance. Wearing flattering colors enhances your skin tone and features, resulting in a more appealing and confident ‘you’. Understanding your style helps you choose outfits that reflect your personality, making you feel comfortable and authentic. House of Colour Papillion analysts, Ashley, Cassie, Kacie, and Katie have a passion for discovering the colors and styles that help their clients feel confident about themselves. Cassie explains, “I love helping people find the color harmony that brings them to life with their natural beauty.” Kacie added, “I'm passionate about adding color to your closet while dressing in styles that express who you truly are.”
Ashley, the franchise owner, grew up in Papillion, met her husband Colin while going to Tara Heights Elementary, and is now raising four children here as well. “Exploring color and style has been life-changing AND life-giving for me, allowing me to see myself in a new light and express my inner self without uttering a word. WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
We are SO excited to announce our new location in downtown Papillion! Our new space will be on the west side of 84th St. at 138 North Washington St. We will be on the second floor overlooking 84th.
WHAT SERVICES DOES HOUSE OF COLOUR PAPILLION OFFER?
Color Analysis is a service performed by a professionally trained consultant who looks at skin undertones in natural lighting with precision-dyed drapes to determine your color palette. This identifies the most flattering hues for clothing and makeup based on natural features.
A style consultation consists of looking at body architecture, proportions and personality to find the best style for you.
We also offer personal shopping, where we cater your shopping experience to your individual needs; closet edits, where we work closely with you to refine your wardrobe; and subscriptions, which provide ongoing communication and support on your style journey.
CAN EVERYONE BENEFIT FROM A COLOR ANALYSIS?
Absolutely, yes! Not only does it enhance your appearance, but it also helps boost confidence, streamlines your wardrobe, and saves you money.

“Exploring color and style has been life-changing AND life-giving for me, allowing me to see myself in a new light.”
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT COLOR SEASONS IN COLOR ANALYSIS?
Color analysis often categorizes individuals into different "seasons" based on their coloring:
• Spring: Spring individuals have warm undertones with light or bright coloring. Spring colors are vibrant and fresh.
• Summer: Summer individuals have cool undertones with light, muted coloring. Summer colors are soft and smoky.
• Autumn: Autumn individuals have warm undertones with rich, earthy coloring.
• Winter: Winter individuals have cool undertones with deep, vivid coloring. Winter colors are bold and striking.
WHAT ARE SOME COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS?
One common misconception about determining undertones is relying solely on surface-level observations. While factors like hair and eye color can provide clues, they may not accurately reflect underlying undertones. Additionally, individuals may mistakenly assume their undertones based on sun exposure or temporary factors like makeup. Professional consultation is crucial for accurate analysis as we use precision-dyed drapes and techniques to assess undertones in natural lighting, ensuring precise identification of the individual's color palette.
WHAT DO YOUR CLIENTS SAY ABOUT HOUSE OF COLOUR PAPILLION?
“I cannot recommend them enough. The confidence I feel knowing what my best colors and clothing styles are is such a refreshing change from the daily grind of parenthood. I feel like a person again. Clothes shopping is fun again, I’ve saved money, and I only buy what I love now. If you’re wondering if you should- DO IT!” -Laura Campbell

HANDMADE
BREAKING BREAD

Making homemade bread is coming back, and while the convenience of buying a pre-made loaf is readily available, there is nothing like the taste of a warm, homemade loaf right out of the oven. This easy-to-follow recipe is exploding with flavor and is simple to make.
FOCACCIA
This recipe is quick and easy to make with just a few simple steps. It tastes great on its own, but dipping it in olive oil infused with fresh herbs adds an extra level of flavor.
INGREDIENTS:
• 1 ¾ cups warm water
• 2 ½ teaspoons sugar
• 1 package active dry yeast
• 4 cups flour
• 2 teaspoons salt
• 4 tablespoons olive oil
Optional:
• Fresh rosemary
• Coarse sea salt
• Fresh pressed garlic
INSTRUCTIONS:
Use a stand mixer with a fitted dough hook, and stir together the water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and stir again. Set mixture aside for 5 minutes. Mixture should be foamy. Next, add the flour and salt and mix on low until a shaggy dough forms. Increase speed and mix for an additional 4-5 minutes. Brush a large bowl with olive oil. Transfer the dough to the bowl and cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a damp towel. Set aside for about 1 to 1 ½ hours until the dough has doubled in size.
Brush a 9x13-inch baking dish with 2 tablespoons of oil. Uncover the dough and rub hands with olive oil. Slide your hands under the dough and fold it onto itself. Continue to work your way around the edge of the bowl, folding the dough onto itself until there is a ball that you can lift from the bowl. Place the dough in the prepared pan and press the dough to the edges. Cover the pan with plastic wrap or a damp towel and set aside to rise for about 45 minutes until the dough has doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 425°F. Drizzle the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the dough. Rub your hands with olive oil and use your fingers to make indentions on the surface of the dough. Sprinkle it with salt and rosemary and any desired toppings. Bake for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Function and Flow
RACHELLE PFEIFER WITH REKEMPT SHARES ORGANIZATION TIPS

Tip 1
When trying to make a space functional, it is important to downsize and declutter first. Try intentionally getting rid of items that no longer serve who you are today.

Tip 4
If you have more than one of any item, you can keep extras in a spot together and use it as your own in-home store! This can be referred to as your overflow bin!
If there are items you use at the same time, you can store them together. If all of your baking items are in one bin it will be easy to get them all out together.

If you use an item daily, make it readily available. The nooks and crannies of your cabinets should be used for items you only need to get to once or twice a year.
