LIFESTYLE LETTER

More Than Just a Pretty Space Style. We all have it—even if you’re reading this in flipflops and yesterday’s hair. But style isn’t just what we wear or how we decorate a room. It runs deeper than that. It’s revealing. Intuitive. A language we speak without words. As a photographer, I’ve always been drawn to that quiet kind of style—not just the visible details (though I do love a great pair of jeans), but what slips through the lens: an unguarded glance, a lived-in space, the beauty of change stitched into the everyday. Style shows up in how we move through life, mark time, and navigate transitions. It’s self-expression. It’s how we interpret the world—and hand it back through design, storytelling, or even a smile. Place, too, shapes style. During my years in Scotland, style meant wool coats and layered scarves, heirloom silver, and rooms scented with memory. The light there stole the show—moody and theatrical, casting stories in shadow before turning to gold. Palm Beach style is a different kind of magic: crisp linen, manicured hedges, and sunwashed facades drawn from Mizner’s Mediterranean daydreams. Just across the bridge, West Palm dances to a different beat: bolder and brimming with creative grit. One side whispers; the other hums. And yet in both, there’s a shared truth—beauty, at its core, is a kind of belonging. We carry pieces of every place we’ve been—whether as passersby or lifers—and together we shape a living, ever-evolving mosaic of style, identity, and place. This month’s cover features the work of Serge Strosberg, whose Monkeying Around Palm Beach series sees the town of Palm Beach through a lens of wit and wonder. His monkeys—equal parts muse and mirror—tumble through tennis courts, yacht decks, and cocktail hours with aplomb. The result is a love letter wrapped in satire: one that captures the beauty, absurdity, and undeniable charm of life on this glittering coast. Because style isn’t just what we wear—it’s how we move through the world. It’s in what we build, how we give, and the small choices that shape a life. Iconic or quietly personal, daring or effortless—style is rarely just one thing. Most often, it’s a little bit of everything. So whether yours shows up in a linen caftan, a well-set table, or the way you light up a room, I hope these pages leave you inspired—and maybe even a little more yourself. To living beautifully, in style and in spirit,

Hot Couture ARTICLE BY ARSINE KALOUSTIAN

In most places, fall announces itself with crisp air, crunchy leaves, and a collective urge to buy sweaters. In South Florida, not so much. Here, the palm trees stay green, the humidity hangs on, and the only chill in the air comes from an overachieving AC unit. But that doesn’t mean we skip the season entirely — it just means we do it differently.

THE COLOR DROP: MOODY TONES MEET TROPICAL TEMPS

We may not get golden leaves, but we still get the memo on rich autumn colors. Think spiced turmeric, smoky plum, moss green, and burnt sienna — just served in breathable fabrics like gauze, linen, and silk.

MOODY HUES, BREEZY FABRICS, AND ABSOLUTELY NO CHILL

WE WANT SWEATER WEATHER… WE JUST DON’T ALWAYS GET IT. SO WE FAKE IT WITH SHEER CARDIGANS, OPEN-WEAVE PULLOVERS, AND FEATHER-LIGHT KNITS.

It’s less “bundle up” and more “bring the drama.” An offthe-shoulder maxi in oxblood, a chartreuse slip dress with booties, or wide-leg pants in camel-toned cotton can say fall without saying why am I sweating through this sweater?

LAYER LIGHTLY: THE ILLUSION OF AUTUMN

Real talk: We don’t do coats down here. But we do love a good fake-out. Enter the art of faux layering — open vests, sleeveless trenches, light dusters, and silky two-piece sets that give you the look of fall layers without the heatstroke. Bonus points for breathable mesh knits, breezy crochet, or linen suiting.

IT’S IN THE ACCESSORIES

If you can’t dress for the weather, dress for the mood. This is where fall really shines in Florida — in the details. Swap straw totes for structured leather bags in deep hues. Go for chunky gold jewelry, a bold belt, or a pair of suede slides. Felt hats make a statement (and shade your face), and tinted sunglasses in amber or olive set the tone without upping the temperature. And yes, boots are fair game. Just pair them with shorts or a breezy dress.

SWEATER WEATHER (KINDA)

We want sweater weather… we just don’t always get it. So we fake it with sheer cardigans, open-weave pullovers, and feather-light knits that nod to coziness without causing a personal heatwave. The trick? Keep it slouchy, breathable, and pair with something short or sleeveless.

FALL, REWRITTEN

Autumnal fashion in South Florida isn’t about fighting the forecast — it’s about embracing it with style. So go ahead and bring out the boots, the deep hues, the leather accents, and yes, even the (lightweight) layers. The leaves may not turn, but heads still will.

ARTICLE BY ARSINE KALOUSTIAN PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF REAL ROYAL STAIRS

MAKING AN Entrance WHY STAIRCASES HAVE ALWAYS STOLEN THE SCENE — IN FILM, IN ARCHITECTURE, AND IN THE MOST STYLISH HOMES

A great staircase doesn’t just take you somewhere. It announces you. For decades, Hollywood has understood the power of a perfectly timed descent. Think Bette Davis, pausing mid-step in All About Eve, framed by shadows and suspicion. Or Scarlett O’Hara, gliding down the staircase at Tara after Rhett with ten tons of rustling skirts in her wake. Titanic’s grand staircase? Forever etched into cinematic memory as the place where Jack and Rose reunite, framed in golden light and suspended in time. We’ve seen staircases do it all: send children sliding down through the front door on sleds (Home Alone), host harmonious goodbyes (The Sound of Music), and even double as bedrooms for orphaned wizards (yes, we are talking about you, Harry Potter). In The Brady Bunch, the floating staircase was so iconic it practically had its own line in the opening credits — season after season, the kids posed on the steps, their style evolving alongside their bell-bottoms.

For all their cinematic drama, staircases have long served as real-life centerpieces too — statements of style, elegance, and intent. 16

H OM E U P DAT E | HO M E + D E SIGN

But for all their cinematic drama, staircases have long served as the nucleus of real-life design — a focal point of style, elegance, and intent. The Fontainebleau Miami Beach understood this when it built its infamous “Staircase to Nowhere,” a sweeping architectural gesture that existed solely to elevate the energy of the room. It didn’t need a destination. It was the destination. Today, that same belief — that a staircase can be more than a structural necessity, that it can be a statement — is alive and well in homes across South Florida, thanks to companies like Real Royal Stairs. Based in West Palm Beach, this family-owned business has spent over a decade creating staircases that command attention. Whether it’s handcrafted hardwood, sleek stainless steel, or minimalist glass, their work blends precision and artistry in equal measure. Real Royal Stairs collaborates with designers, builders, and homeowners on both renovations and new builds, specializing in everything from exotic radius treads to clean-lined floating designs. All of their wooden components — from newel posts to handrails — are proudly made in the USA, and their finish work reflects a deep respect for craftsmanship and longevity. Their staircases don’t just connect levels — they anchor spaces, draw the eye, and often become the most talked-about feature in the home. “We love what we do and enjoy seeing the finished projects,” says owner Yasmine Mirova, whose hands-on approach and passion for detail has helped shape the company’s signature blend of function and flourish. With each custom build, Real Royal Stairs proves that technical skill and beauty don’t have to live on separate floors. Because at the end of the day, style is about storytelling — and no story ever started with someone quietly walking in through the back door. S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 5 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . There’s a monkey haunting Worth Avenue — and he’s never looked more fabulous. Not just any monkey, mind you. This is Johnnie Brown, Addison Mizner’s martini-loving pet spider monkey and rumored onetime mayoral candidate, reborn through the lens of artist Serge

Serge Strosberg photographed by Daniel Perry Studios

Beneath the whimsy lies something more layered: a commentary on identity, leisure, and the art of belonging in one of America’s most performative playgrounds.

Strosberg in a lush, slyly satirical portrait series that’s swinging its way through galleries and collectors’ homes: Monkeying Around Palm Beach. On the surface, it’s all playful charm — monkeys in resort wear, posing courtside or lounging poolside. But beneath the whimsy lies something more layered: a commentary on identity, leisure, and the art of belonging in one of America’s most performative playgrounds. Strosberg first encountered Johnnie not in the history books, but behind a restaurant in Palm Beach, where a modest headstone labeled “The Human Monkey” sparked a deep fascination. The monkey, once a fixture of Mizner’s famously eccentric life, became the ideal vessel through which to explore the island’s mythology — part fact, part fantasy, and entirely ripe for reimagining.

Palm Beach, after all, has always lived in dualities. It’s dazzling and decadent, but also curiously insular, with its rituals of fashion, social climbing, and curated nonchalance. Strosberg saw this clearly. Drawing from Slim Aarons photographs, Ziegfeldera party lore, and his own observations of the Palm Beach scene, he imagined Johnnie as more than a novelty. In his hands, the monkey becomes both muse and mirror — dressed to impress and always in on the joke. “My work has always lived in tension,” Strosberg says. “When I paint portraits, it’s not just the skin I’m painting, but the emotions behind the mask.” It’s a philosophy he applies even to fur and feathers. Johnnie appears throughout the series as a quintessential Palm Beach everyman—decked in cabana-striped blazers and sorbet-hued separates

fit for the island’s most storied haunts, whether he’s surfing past The Breakers, grabbing a midday tiki drink, or loitering at Swifty’s in oversized shades, soaking up the gossip. For Strosberg, fashion is less costume than character development. His monkeys are intentionally overdressed — not to poke fun, but to lean into the theatricality of luxury itself. The bright colors, the flamboyant accessories, the exaggerated elegance of it all — they’re part of Palm Beach’s DNA, and his monkeys wear it as naturally as any socialite at Buccan. To bring the series to life, Strosberg blends modern technology with time-honored craft. While he uses AI and Photoshop in the early stages to mock up concepts or work with collectors on custom commissions, the final works are painted by hand using oil and egg tempera — the same painstaking techniques favored by German, Flemish, and Italian masters. He trained at the Académie Julian in Paris, and his knowledge of traditional portraiture is palpable in every brushstroke. The difference, he insists, is tactile. AI might help generate ideas, but the real emotion — the humor, the humanity — lives in the paint itself. “AI is cold and lifeless,” he says. “It may work in some cases, but not for what I’m trying to do.” That depth is part of what makes the series feel both nostalgic and of-the-moment. Strosberg doesn’t seek to rewrite Palm Beach history, but to reimagine it through a more accessible, joyful lens. By anthropomorphizing Johnnie and placing him in rarefied settings, he’s offering a subtle social critique — not a harsh satire, but a romantic re-framing. One that coaxes viewers to see themselves in the monkey’s eyes

and to consider the rituals of elegance, mimicry, and aspiration that shape life on the island. The series now includes twelve original portraits, each a variation of Johnnie as an avatar of modern Palm Beach. More are on the way, including five new paintings to be unveiled this fall. A 3D sculpture series is also in development, along with a limited-edition line of prints. Collectors from the Hamptons to Miami are lining up, and Strosberg is already dreaming up future expansions: Monkeying Around New York, Monkeying Around Paris. But for now, the muse remains local. Palm Beach, after all, offers endless material. What makes Monkeying Around Palm Beach so compelling is not just the craft or the wit, but the warmth. These monkeys aren’t caricatures — they’re invitations. To laugh a little. To see yourself, and your world, from a different

angle. To remember that style, at its best, is both self-aware and a little bit wild. “Palm Beach history is fascinating, and I’m reimagining it through contemporary art,” Strosberg says. “Every time someone sees my monkeys and smiles—that’s when I know the work is doing what it’s meant to.” ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––------Monkeying Around Palm Beach is part of Strosberg’s ongoing Reimagining Palm Beach series. FACE VALUE DR. ILONA FOTEK ON SUBTLE REFINEMENT, BIOLOGIC BEAUTY, AND THE ART OF LOOKING LIKE YOURSELF—ONLY BETTER The idea of the perfect smile is changing—and it’s not just about being whiter, straighter, or more symmetrical. Today’s patients are looking for something that feels more personal, more natural, and yes, more biologically sound. With nearly one in five Americans having already had a cosmetic dental procedure, the demand is growing—but so is the desire for a different kind of result. We sat down with Dr. Ilona Fotek of Dental Healing Arts in Jupiter to talk about subtlety, proportion, and why the best cosmetic work should never feel like a makeover.

HOW DO YOU DEFINE A “STYLISH” SMILE— AND WHAT MAKES ONE STAND OUT WITHOUT LOOKING OVERDONE?

A stylish smile is one that feels effortless and authentic — a reflection of who the person truly is. It’s not about perfection, but rather harmony. The most striking smiles are those that complement the individual’s facial structure, skin tone, and personality without overpowering their natural features.

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION PEOPLE HAVE ABOUT COSMETIC DENTISTRY?

That it’s purely cosmetic and unrelated to health or function. In truth, a well-executed treatment plan must consider biomechanics, bite alignment, facial support, and long-term tissue health. Another misconception? That it always leads to the overly white, bulky “Hollywood” look. But when guided by sound facial analysis and techniques that mimic real enamel’s translucency, texture, and shade, results can be both subtle and transformative.

YOU PRACTICE BIOLOGIC DENTISTRY AS WELL— WHAT DOES THAT MEAN IN TERMS OF THE MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES YOU USE?

It’s an approach that looks beyond the teeth, taking into account how dental materials and treatments can impact overall health. It prioritizes safer, body-friendly alternatives and favors techniques that minimize disruption, protect healthy tissue, and encourage the body to heal itself.

S ELF CA R E | BEAUTY

DO YOU FIND THAT PATIENTS TODAY ARE BECOMING MORE THOUGHTFUL ABOUT THE HEALTH IMPLICATIONS OF THEIR COSMETIC DECISIONS?

Absolutely. Patients are increasingly asking not just how something will look, but how it will impact their overall health. They’re reading labels, asking about materials, and seeking out providers with a more integrative approach. It reflects a broader shift toward viewing aesthetics, performance, and systemic health as deeply connected. People are realizing that what goes into the mouth doesn’t stay there—it can affect hormones, the microbiome, energy, even cognitive clarity.

ARE PATIENTS TYPICALLY SEEKING DRAMATIC CHANGES, OR DO THEY TEND TO PREFER MORE UNDERSTATED ENHANCEMENTS?

The majority of my patients are looking for refinement, not reinvention. They want to feel more radiant, more polished — but still like themselves. There’s a growing preference for results that are elegant, understated, and timeless rather than trendy or extreme. That might mean softening a gummy smile or creating better symmetry — all without anyone being able to pinpoint exactly what changed.

WHAT IS ONE SMALL CHANGE THAT CAN YIELD A DISPROPORTIONATELY LARGE IMPROVEMENT IN A SMILE?

Small adjustments—like reshaping incisal edges or correcting gum asymmetries—can recalibrate the entire smile without altering tooth structure. Even subtle brightening or refining the shape of the front teeth can create a fresher, more youthful look. These nuanced changes require a trained eye, but when done precisely, they elevate the smile without making it feel “done.”

WHAT DO YOU WISH MORE PEOPLE UNDERSTOOD BEFORE PURSUING COSMETIC DENTAL WORK?

That this is a form of advanced restorative art backed by science. Outcomes vary dramatically based on the provider’s diagnostic philosophy, material selection, and patients’ overall health and lifestyle. Cosmetic dentistry is not a one-size-fits-all solution — and quick fixes can sometimes lead to long-term compromises. True esthetic work requires careful planning, a deep understanding of facial anatomy, and a personalized approach.

THE BIOLOGIC DIFFERENCE Biologic dentistry treats the mouth as part of the whole body—not a separate system. It avoids metals and petrochemical-based materials in favor of biocompatible options like ceramic and BPA-free resin. It also supports natural healing through minimal intervention, ozone therapy, and platelet-rich fibrin. The goal is to create lasting, aesthetic results without compromising systemic health.

The New Palm Beach Periphery Riviera. Singer Island. Boynton. Where Style and Strategy Are Redefining the Coastline. By all appearances, the Palm Beaches are having a moment — though not just in the places you’d expect. The luxury high-rises of West Palm Beach may have set the tone, but lately, the most interesting moves are happening on either side of it—to the north in Riviera Beach and Singer Island, and to the south in Boynton Beach. These once-overlooked enclaves are coming into their own, ushering in a new era of refined living and design-forward development. Singer Island, long known for its pristine stretch of beach, is now home to a slate of high-end projects with serious architectural and environmental ambition. One of the most closely watched is River Walk, a new waterfront district from Related Companies that blends native landscaping, luxury residences, and experiential retail into a seamless indoor-outdoor experience—proof that what’s happening here is no longer peripheral. Just across the bridge in Riviera Beach, transformation is equally palpable. The city’s Marina Village Phase II is reshaping the waterfront with new residences and walkable paths. Nearby, The Waterway, a 750-unit residential development, is set to anchor the next wave of growth. Riviera’s rise may be subtle, but it’s gaining momentum. And then there’s Boynton Beach. Here, the reinvention is more comprehensive. Under the leadership of Mayor Rebecca Shelton, the city is embracing what she calls

“smarter growth”—a combination of zoning, beautification, and community-forward incentives. “We’re not just growing—we’re elevating,” says Shelton. “Boynton Beach is stepping confidently into its identity as a vibrant, welcoming, and beautifully livable city. This is a new chapter—driven by bold ideas and real momentum.” That evolution is taking shape across the city, where redevelopment plans for the downtown corridor are gaining traction through zoning incentives, CRA-backed grants, and serious investor attention—the kind that signals not just momentum, but permanence. Adding to this energy are fine dining destinations like Nicholson Muir, a MICHELIN-recommended modern steakhouse, reflecting the city’s rising appetite for elevated experiences. Among those helping shape that future is The Starboard Group, a boutique real estate and development firm whose local roots and forward-thinking approach have positioned them as a powerful force in the region’s renaissance. This spring, Starboard presented Bill Morris and William (Billy) Cunningham of The Starboard Group

Boynton Beach officials with an opportunity to acquire a large assemblage of property along Boynton Beach Boulevard, including the site of the former Inn at Boynton Beach. “That stretch of Boynton Beach Boulevard is more than just real estate—it’s the front door to the city,” said Billy Cunningham, CEO of The Starboard Group. “We see it as a chance to create something beautiful and welcoming, a true gateway that sets the tone for the Boynton Beach of tomorrow.” His vision, shared by development advisor powerhouse Bill Morris, includes high-end retail, offices, and possibly another hotel—framing the western gateway into downtown not just as a corridor, but as an experience.

It’s the kind of deal that blends civic ambition with private imagination—two elements increasingly defining the coastline. “Palm Beach County is entering a pivotal era,” says Cunningham. “Local leaders are stepping up, communities are engaged, and the appetite for meaningful progress is stronger than ever. This isn’t about short-term wins or surface-level change. We’re focused on building lasting value—places that will stand the test of time.” It’s an ambitious mandate, and a well-timed one. With new residents arriving from across the country—many seeking the kind of unpretentious luxury these emerging corridors now offer—the market is hungry for vision, not just inventory. Increasingly, that vision is being led by the new pioneers who understand that style is more than surface—it’s strategy. And that strategy is reshaping the map.

GRIT CHECK At first glance, it looks like any chic little boutique—heels in neat pairs, accessories catching the light. But look at little closer, and you’ll find that behind every blazer and belt at Dress for Success Palm Beaches is a story of grit, reinvention, and a woman preparing not just for a job interview, but for her next chapter. Since 2010, this nonprofit has helped more than 5,000 women in our region suit up and step forward. They offer more than just head‑to‑toe styling—they provide interview prep, career

STYLE IS JUST THE START AT DRESS FOR SUCCESS ARTICLE BY ARSINE KALOUSTIAN

coaching, and something far less tangible but infinitely more valuable: confidence. Here, style isn’t surface. It’s purpose. The journey often begins with a referral from one of more than 100 local partner agencies. A woman walks in—sometimes nervous, sometimes skeptical. She’s met by a personal stylist who guides her through the racks, helping her find pieces that fit both her frame—and her future. Then comes a coaching session with a career pro who reviews résumés and interview skills—but also gently convinces her she belongs in the room. If that first interview doesn’t lead to a job, the support continues. The Road to Success program offers six weeks of confidence-building sessions and career tools, and mentorship. For on-the-go learning, Keys to Success provides quick video lessons on everything from image to finances. Once she’s employed, she returns. This time for a full week’s wardrobe—and an invitation to join the Professional Women’s Group, a warm, ambitious sisterhood of Dress for Success alumni navigating everything from negotiating raises to claiming space. It’s not just about staying employed—it’s about building a career, and a community. “Most significant is our success rate, with 65 percent of the women we serve finding employment,” said CEO Jo Ann Fletcher in a March 2025 interview with WFLX. That number isn’t just a metric—it’s momentum. Now, all of this is unfolding in a fresh, thoughtfully designed new space in Greenacres, which officially opened in late July. Replacing the longtime Palm Springs location, the new boutique offers more room for suiting, more access to programs, and more opportunities for women to walk in unsure—and walk out transformed.

“Most significant is our success rate, with 65% of the women we serve finding employment.” Because while yes, the clothes matter—this is Palm Beach, after all—what really matters is how a woman feels when she sees herself, polished and prepared, in the mirror. She’s not playing dress‑up. She’s stepping into the life she’s been working for all along.
