Little crystals and big gold chain links make their appearance, as does the “Gemma” (resembling an upside-down bison horn) collections. “The Shiva statement line is just gorgeous!” Annie exclaimed. Kendra Scott also released a masculine line earlier this year, Scott Brothers by Kendra Scott, designed by her sons. Crafted with sterling silver, the masculine bracelets are designed to be hardy and low maintenance. The bracelets feature stones like brown tiger’s eye, blue Lapis, banded agate and turquoise jasper. “Matthew McConaughey and Payton Manning have pieces,” Annie said. “What’s more, 20% of each sale of the Cade bracelet goes to Payton Manning’s Children’s Hospital Foundation and other youth causes throughout the rest of the year.” However, October isn’t just the month for the fall collection—it’s also the month that is dear to Kendra Scott’s heart: Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

KENDRA SCOTT GIVE BACK To Kendra Scott, jewelry is also a way to make a difference, and one of the company’s top priorities is philanthropic giving. The iconic designer introduced a separate line dedicated to breast cancer awareness, and Scott herself was just inducted into the Breast Cancer Research Fund in 2019. “Kendra lost her best friend five years ago to metastatic breast cancer. When that happened, she really flipped a switch and made sure that every single store that we have supports breast cancer in some way,” Annie recalled. “Locally, we do this by supporting organizations like Susan G. Komen and Project 31, which is an amazing breast cancer support group here.” Nationally in honor of Kendra’s friend Holley Rothell Kitchen, the company promotes “Holley Day” on Oct. 13. Watch Kendra talk about this here: youtube.com/watch?v=MunBjH2KTrQ “Before Holley passed away, she went to a retreat that is run by a group called Inheritance of Hope. Inheritance of Hope puts on retreats for families who have a member with a terminal illness,” Annie explained. “They have therapists there and the family goes to Disney World and do all sorts of really fun things.” The philanthropy doesn’t end there. Kendra Scott has donated over $30 million to philanthropic causes through its Kendra Gives Back in-store and online parties held throughout the year. “We have three pillars in Kendra Scott: Family, Fashion and Philanthropy,” Annie said. “Locally, we give back where it makes sense to. Mental health is a big priority now, and what we do makes a difference in our communities.” Oklahoma Children’s Hospital at OU Health, for instance, is part of the Kendra Cares program, in which employees bring a customizable “color bar” to the hospital to work with the kids to make jewelry for themselves and one other person who helps them, whether that be nurse or mom. “Kendra Scott as a company is 95% female, and it’s an incredible company to be a part of and to help raise money for others,” Annie said. For more information about the fall line or Kendra Scott Gives Back, visit KendraScott.com. ABOUT OUR MODELS Whitney and Lindsay are the creators of TheDoubleTakeGirls.com fashion and lifestyle blog. Don’t Bid Against Yourself in Family Law Matters Many individuals are very anxious to get their divorce or family law matter concluded quickly. They want the case to end. They want the pain to end. They want it to stop as soon as possible. They want to move on with their life. To try to get a case settled, they issue a settlement offer. In some cases, a response to the settlement offer is not forthcoming by the deadline that was set for the offer to expire. Instead of patiently waiting for a response to a settlement offer, and continuing to move their case forward in the interim, many are tempted to issue another more enticing settlement offer. In other words, they offered one particular proposal and since there was no quick response, they desire to butter up the original proposal with an even better offer. When a party to a divorce or family law matter does this, they are essentially bidding against them-

selves. They are sweetening the pot, in essence, with the hope that the other party will bite on the more generous offer to conclude the case. In some cases, it is certainly possible this might cause the other party to bite. But in many cases, the other party might come to realize that by not responding to the original offer, they got an even better deal. This can lead to a party thinking that they might not respond to the second offer, either. By not responding to the second offer, the thought is the there might be an even better third or fourth offer coming if they just keep not responding. This path can lead to a party becoming way too generous just to get a case done. This can ultimately lead to regret at some point after the case concludes. For most parties, submitting a settlement offer to attempt to settle the case makes sense. But bidding against yourself (when there was no response to the original offer) does not usually make sense.
If you have submitted an offer, it’s usually best to wait for a response before issuing a second settlement offer. Even if the deadline you set for a response has passed, it’s best in most cases not to submit another offer until a response is provided to the original offer. If there is no response, consider continuing forward in preparing your case until you get a response to the original offer.
