HARKENS BACK TO THE WARMTH AND COMFORT OF THE ENGLISH COUNTRYSIDE. Brent and his wife, Peggy, live in a 1920s-style English Tudor home that Brent designed and built. With the facade built in a custom brick that Acme calls "Gibson Brick" and adorned with notable touches like darker brick patterns and custom scrollwork, Brent says he wanted a home that was comfortable and cozy in that "old English" way. "This is my little Downton Abbey. That was the look and feel of what we were going for," he says. "It's cozy and family-friendly." The special English-inspired touches add style to the Gibson home in subtle ways. A mixed paver stone path leads to a front door made of mahogany that Brent designed, which sits under a cast stone framing that features Celtic accents and the Gibson family crest. The door also features stained glass, which casts a rainbow glow both outside and inside the home. A hand-carved molding along the front of the home features an acorn and oak leaf pattern that Brent created that carved into cypress wood. CONTINUED >

Walking into the Gibson home is like walking into an old English mansion. The entrance way features gold leaf and custom stenciling along the walls that lead to a dining room that also boasts of rust paint with a gold glaze stencil. The ceiling is created from molded plaster in an English geometric pattern. The flooring features blue tile and wood patterns with little bronze insets to add color. Though Brent does cathedral ceilings in many of the homes he builds, he opted for a 12-foot ceilingÂ in the living room to add to the ambiance of coziness. For Peggy, her favorite room in the home is the kitchen, which includes granite countertops, a massive kitchen island with built-in electrical outlets and a fun miniature fireplace built into the wall. The windows in the kitchen also have custom stained glass designed by Carol Brock that displays birds, which Peggy adores. Even the chandelier in the kitchen pops. It is mounted on a decorative tin plate that Brent concerted into a base for the light fixture. "We have a big family, and Peggy likes to cook and put all the food out," Brent says.Â Another traditional touch in the home is the piano room, located just outside the family room so Brent and his daughter can play for visitors. The room features a tray ceiling with layers of crown molding, and most of the woodwork in the home is pecan, which Brent loves for its warmth. Upstairs, an art studio was designed to showcase artwork that Brent created when he was a famous Western watercolor artist in the 1980s. It also serves as a playroom for the grandchildren when they visit. Another favorite area for the Gibsons and their grandchildren is the backyard, which includes a pool designed with a waterfall and fountain accents. Awash in flowers and landscaping that Brent designed and maintains himself, the backyard is a riot of color and greenery. A sunny yellow country cottage shed not only houses Brent's tools, but also one half of the little building serves as a playhouse for his granddaughters. "As in every home we design, the details make a big difference," Brent says. "When you go into a home, there should be something of interest in every room. Being an English-style home, the details are very ornate, but it's a comfortable home for the family. It's a happy home." Â

THIS FALL, LORNE WILSON OF THE AMBASSADOR SHOP WANTS MEN TO STEP OUTSIDE OF THEIR COMFORT ZONE AND TRY FASHION THEY NORMALLY WOULDN’T IMAGINE. With bright colors blending with geometric and surprising patterns, men’s fashion is taking risks and breaking the rules. “We are a little different,” Lorne says. “Patterns and colors are in, but we are incorporating patterns and colors to give men a look they normally would not have thought of. You can start with a basic suit, but adding elements like different bright ties with different bright shirts, you create a style that’s unique.” This season, pairing a Canaletto Vitale Barberis patterned dark navy suit and blue Tiglio shirt goes nicely with a red patterned Big Knot tie by Steven Land and creates a bold impression. So many times, men are going to go with a basic shirt or tie, but I like showing them a different look. Even in September, Oklahoma days stay hot, and Bruce says the seared tuna paired with lively fresh pineapple, lightly roasted red peppers and the frisky twang of seaweed salad is a perfect choice for a lighter meal. But like all things, the real magic comes in the presentation of a dish that is swimming in flavor. "Not only is this a refreshing dish, but it is a beautiful one, too," Bruce says. "You need that 'wow' factor. When people compliment how a dish looks on top of how good it tastes, that's when the magic happens." In June 2004, Bruce opened Rococo Restaurant and Fine Wine at the corner of 28th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue with the idea of creating a “little island of fine dining” with East Coast-style fresh seafood, killer pasta and a huge variety of favorites from the New England area. Bruce opened a second Rococo location in Northpark Mall and an event catering division. Rococo has the reputation for having the best crab cakes around, but the clam chowder—say “chowda” when ordering—is always a crowd pleaser along with exotic dishes such as escargot and Rococo cookies, which are savory toasted bites topped with

SEARED TUNA POKE SALAD DIRECTIONS Lightly sear tuna in sesame oil and thinly slice. Cube fresh pineapple and dice roasted red pepper that’s been cooked lightly in olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Separate pineapple, red pepper and seaweed salad into their own ramekins. Using a circular ring mold, place a couple pieces of tuna as the base layer, pressing down gently to make consistent. Layer seaweed salad, pressing down gently, followed by diced pineapple and red pepper. Top with another layer of seared tuna, followed by red pepper. Top with a third layer of tuna. Carefully and slowly lift the ring mold to create a tower of food. Garnish the top with a pinch of seaweed salad. Prepare an Asian glaze made from pineapple juice, ginger, brown sugar and oyster sauce. Drizzle the Asian glaze over the tower of poke. Sprinkle dish with black sesame seeds and

ROBERT BAXTER, OWNER OF ROBERT BAXTER ELECTRIC, KNOWS HIS LIGHTING. As a decades-long expert, Robert has seen how lighting can dress up a home much like how a signature piece of jewelry or a handbag can really dress up an outfit. Robert, now 68, has been an electrical contractor since he was 18. At age 22, he earned his journeyman’s license in half the time it usually takes, and at 26, he earned his contractor’s license. Robert started Baxter Electric in Oklahoma City and quickly became the largest electrical contracting business in the state. “I had 30 trucks and 80 employees,” he says. “In 2012, I wanted to retire, so I sold the company. But I got so bored in retirement, that I went back into business, this time as Robert Baxter Electric.” Robert Baxter Electric specializes in everything electrical, but especially service and repair work. If a client needs surge protection, he does that. But mostly, Robert knows how to make a home look beautiful through lighting. One way to really dress up the outside of a house is to install outside lighting that highlights the corners of the residence or to install lights that shine down on the corners of the house. Spotlight lighting also works inside a home. For instance, Juno Lighting offers a framing projector that is set on a track with levers. Homeowners can “frame” art in light by adjusting the levers on the framing projector. “LED is also a big thing now,” he says. “It costs more but will last 10 years.
