I Heart Summer DEAR READERS, It's the time that we've all been waiting for—summer! And this isn't just any summer; no, this is a unicorn of a summer, one that warmed up slowly and gave us a long spring to soak in the beautiful temperate weather before July's blazing hot days took over. I've lived in my backyard for the last month, and I couldn't be happier! Our Summer issue is all about enjoyment, whether you're looking for a concert under the stars (spoiler alert: there's several to choose from!) or a farmers market with ripe heirloom tomatoes and crisp cucumbers. We have the inside scoop on keeping the state bird, the mosquito, at bay with natural remedies. We also have a few KC favorites from our very own publisher, Jeron Traphagan. As my girls get older, I'm enjoying spending more time outside with them—pushing them on the swings, hunting for critters in the grass, or splashing in the pool.

life and I'm so happy that my daughters are still young enough that they prefer time with me to time on a device. As this July unfolds with fireworks, cookouts, and hopefully pitchers of blackberry lemon sangria, I hope that you have a chance to enjoy the summer and all the magic that it holds. Nine years later, he organizes the Gladstone Farmer's Market, now in its permanent home at Linden Square. Morning Dew Acres is located in Plattsburg and Joel's philosophy is simple—he tries to plant and if it grows, it grows. He grows organically and has an adventurous attitude toward this farm. He also raises chickens and sells fresh eggs. Find all the ingredients for your next frittata at Morning Dew Farms.

the bands TAYLOR LYNN CULLEN

»

Why you should see them: Taylor Lynn Cullen is a 22-year-old singer/songwriter and Nashville recording artist. Taylor has been writing music since she was 9 years old. By the time she started performing professionally at age 15, she had over 200 original songs written. Self taught on guitar and piano, she currently has five music endorsements; including Daisy Rock Girl Guitars, Kurzweil Keyboards, Ultrasone Headphones, Artist Relations, and The Piano Store. Her original music is available on iTunes, Spotify, and anywhere music can be downloaded, as well as her own Pandora station. Her longawaited EP Tennessee was released in June. All tracks were written and composed by Taylor and recorded at WarnerWorks Studio in Nashville.

Why you should see them: In 2016, after a decade as a solo artist, singer-songwriter Lauren Flynn desired to form a new project. She dreamed of creating three-part harmonies within deeply emotive music with a fresh, modern sound. After Lauren met vocalist Aubrey Callahan, the two began working together while searching for a third vocalist. The duo soon added violinist and singer Tiffany Smith. Alongside Lauren’s long-time manager David “DJ” Lee, the group began working with producer Tyler Banks. Tyler helped craft a hybrid style incorporating programmed beats and synth pads with traditional folk melodies, harmonies, and live instrumentation.

While there can be concern about citrus oils on the skin when exposed to sunlight, lemongrass isn’t a photosensitive oil, and if lemon essential oil is steam-distilled rather than cold-pressed (Oui Fresh essential oils are cold-pressed) it can be used on the skin. So just make sure to note which one your lemon oil is and only spray on clothes if you don’t have a skin-safe lemon oil (which is an application method a lot of people prefer anyway if they are more sensitive to oils).

Find more DIYs at ABeautifulMess.com and shop these essential oils and more at OuiFresh.com.
