“Before we headed out of town and family was coming to house sit, I wanted to make sure all my units were running well. I made a call just to see if someone could come check before we left. They were very responsive. Came right out! And then instead of trying to up-sell, or tell me something was too old, they said everything looked great. Love an honest, hard working, and professional crew!

Thank you!”

For the month of May purchase a 2-3 ton system for $8500 or get a 3.5-5 ton system for $9000.

This one's for the ladies

Every day, every week, every month is for the women in my life who make it that much more wonderful. The people who have had the most impact on my life have been wives, mothers, daughters, and sisters.

We can't celebrate women without honoring our mothers. They are among us and they have raised, and are raising, generations of incredible people. Without them, we would not be where we are. But it's not just the biological connection that we want to honor; it's the family members, teachers, friends, and neighbors who have left their imprint on us. Every one of them has poured into our lives and our communities, ensuring they are unforgettable and irreplaceable.

There are so many women in my life that I can and will credit. I look to my mother, who was and remains my best friend. Then there are my grandmothers who continue to inspire me to live up to the potential they knew existed inside of my heart. My friends, near and far, who supported me through every season of life and never asked me to change. Finally, I must credit my mentor Crystal Hobbs, who has taught me to believe in the beautiful, unwavering strength of being a woman.

Supporting local businesses will always be our top priority, but this month, we encourage you to shop with women in mind. Check out the gift guide for great places to take your mom for Mother's Day, like Little Joe's Farmstead or Wishbone & Flynt. Or, grab a quick gift for her at Lulu's Floral Design. And, please make sure to read through Shannon Baker's story to learn what strength and perseverance look like.

This month, they are not simply businesswomen. They are women with hearts of gold, determination, and unseen strength. They are our mothers, friends, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, and more. They are everything we need them to be and then some.

My request to you is this: challenge yourself this month to send a text, pick up the phone, or even make the trip to see the women who have impacted your life. Give them the recognition they deserve because you have no idea what your words will mean to them.

I'd like to dedicate this issue to my momma, Betsy, for being my loudest and most steadfast supporter.

xx,

Being accepted to play college baseball is a stepping stone toward my goal of competing at the Division One level, supported by my family and guided by my coaches. I measure success by setting goals and striving for daily improvement. Since baseball is a game of failure, I focus on learning from setbacks and concentrate on the next pitch instead of dwelling on what just happened.

MOTHERS AND FORMER NURSES, ALYSHA CLARKE AND JENNIFER LANKFORD, OFFER A UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE ON CHILDCARE.

Born out of the desire to create a support system for families who need non-traditional childcare options and to be inclusive of children who may have special learning and medical needs, Alysha Clarke and Jennifer Lankford founded the Hive. The Hive is a drop-in childcare center that caters to children from six weeks to ten years old, with specialized care for each age group and sensory-sensitive children.

ARTICLE BY MICHELLE PARNELL PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAVANNA ROMANO

Children at the Hive are separated into one of three areas: the infant room, the toddler room, and the Play Zone. Each space is screen-free and provides developmentally appropriate activities that children find fun and stimulating. With its shock absorbing, five foot fall-rated flooring, massive playground, obstacle course, and interactive games, the Play Zone provides a safe place for older children to interact with one another, learn new skills, and expend some of their endless energy.

As former pediatric nurses at Cook Children’s Hospital, Alysha and Jennifer bring unique experiences and knowledge

to the area of childcare, which they reference when creating activities for the kids.

“We understand having developmentally appropriate activities is huge when working on fine and gross motor skills, communication skills, and being able to identify emotions and put them into words,” explained Jennifer. “So everything we use at the Hive is a melting pot of Montessori, physical, occupational, and speech therapy elements. We offer lots of sensory activities and play in each one of those areas because children who learn through play retain what they're learning.”

During their time in nursing, the two also found that many of the families

“MANY OF THOSE FAMILIES CAN’T JUST CALL A BABYSITTER FROM ANYWHERE SO THEY CAN GO TO DINNER FOR AN HOUR.”

they served through the hospital needed more support. Specifically, they needed a place where their children would be cared for in a trusted environment by well-trained caregivers.

“Many of those families can't just call a babysitter from anywhere so they can go to dinner for an hour,” shared Alysha. “So our heart is to help these families and be as inclusive as possible, not just for the parents, but for the kids as well because they miss out on experiences too.”

Unlike traditional day care and Mother’s Day Out models, the Hive offers childcare when parents need it, for the amount of time they need it, and parents

only pay for the time they use. This system is perfect for parents who work non-traditional hours, as an emergency back up when a primary caregiver is sick or unavailable, or for those who simply need childcare a few hours a week for a date night or to run errands.

Childcare spots at the Hive are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Members have the added benefit of making reservations online, which gives them priority for securing spots and is especially helpful during high-demand times like school breaks and holidays. Members also enjoy a discounted hourly rate. Special interactive camps are offered

during school breaks, as well as the option of renting the entire space for birthday parties on Sundays.

Alysha and Jennifer, who are both moms themselves, ultimately focus on providing a space for kids to grow and develop in a positive, uplifting environment. “All it takes to positively impact the life of a child is one adult seeing them and really being there in a moment when they need them,” said Jennifer. “When we do training, we explain that this is an opportunity to be that trusted adult and impact these kids.”

The Hive is located at 1485 Commons Circle, Suite 200 with a second location coming soon. For more information, visit thehive-northlake.net, call 940-441-1155, or email registration@thehive-northlake. net. Also follow The Hive - Northlake on Facebook and Instagram.

The Art of Collecting

As consumers, we are constantly being enticed to buy. Whether it’s the jewelry we can’t live without, concert tickets to a show we don’t want to miss, or that favorite pair of shoes calling our name, we buy what we love, and art should be no different.

If you are new to acquiring original art, you may find it daunting, but it shouldn’t be. It is a special purchase that forces you to dig deep and discover a bit more about yourself. At first, many people shy away from buying original art because of the commitment. It’s a big decision after all, and how do you really know when it’s the “perfect” piece? Because art is subjective, part of the process is learning what style of art is the best fit for you. Is it colorful and energetic abstracts, or soothing landscapes that catch your eye? Maybe you are drawn to local photography, or even figurative works. There is no wrong answer, and maybe it’s a mix of several styles that creates your unique collection. The best way to find out your “art personality” is to get out and visit your local galleries. Consider making it a tradition to visit galleries while traveling or buy a piece of art as a gift on special occasions. In the gallery setting you can explore various art styles, mediums, and even learn more about the talented artists who create those works.

With the purchase of original art comes other considerations. Often, we have clients who need direction figuring out what size of art they need and its placement in the design of their space. If you find a piece of art you love, you will always find a spot for it. Ask the gallery if they offer in-home art consultation services to see the piece in your setting. Great custom framing is key, and well-designed framing is the jewelry to a great piece of art. Quality archival framing protects your art from UV rays that can damage a piece over time. Original art should last generations.

I’m often asked, should I buy art for investment? There is a place for investment art, but I don’t believe in buying art with the pretense that it will go up in value. There is no guarantee it will and to me, good investment art brings different riches to your life. Art that brings you joy, adds personality to your space, and makes your home original is an investment in you. The best art investment should be the feeling you experience gazing into an oil painting that perfectly captures a warm sunset over the prairie, or the texture created by a palette knife on the abstract that seems to pop off the canvas. That is what makes investing in original art priceless.

Art that brings you joy, adds personality to your space, and makes your home original is an investment in you.

A Love Letter to Mothers

From the time Kellie was a child, she wanted to be just like her mom, Betsy. Betsy is the person who lit her passion for reading and she has fond memories of her mom reading to her as a child. Betsy has been Kellie's best friend and amazing mom, all while getting her degree. The hours that Betsy put in not only for her own schooling and future, but for Kellie’s as well is inspiring and causes a great deal of pride for Kellie. Kellie’s main goal is to make her mom and dad proud, but she also wants them to know how proud she is of them. “Momma, I am proud to be your daughter. Can you believe your shy, scared little girl is a business owner now? I love you!” exclaims Kellie.

Savanna's mom is her best friend and the person who inspires her to be the best woman that she can be, every single day. Savanna talks about how her mother "has the kindest soul and the most loving, and caring heart." She has expressed how grateful she is for her mom and for everything that her mom has taught her. Savanna and her mom have a special bond that can't be broken and she is so grateful to be her daughter. "I love her deeply and wouldn't be where I am today without her," says Savanna.

"Betsy Ruth High Krevosky has been my role model, my best friend, and my mentor my whole life."
Savanna Romano and her mother.
FOR THIS WOMEN’S ISSUE, WE WANT TO HONOR AND THANK ALL THE MOTHERS IN OUR LIVES!

When I think of the person I admire the most, my mom comes to mind every time. Since I was young, my mom has been there for me through every good and bad moment in my life. If I ever needed anything at all, she was right there by my side. She took care of me when I was sick, she held me while I cried, and she never went a day without paying me a compliment. She instilled values in me that have guided me through my life to this day. She has been my biggest supporter and my best friend and I hope she receives everything she wishes for in this lifetime! I would not be where I am today without such an amazing woman at my side, I am eternally grateful for her and the relationship that we have. I aim to be even half as amazing as she is! To mothers everywhere, Northlake City Lifestyle wants to say thank you. When I think of resilience

and strength, I think of mothers. Mothers are the rock that hold everything and everyone together, and without complaints! I hope this Mother’s Day, all moms know how appreciated they are and I hope that you all feel the love! You see people in their best and worst times and you never falter in your love. Mothers are some of the most giving people that we will ever meet and you will always be needed! I was talking to a mother I know a couple of days ago. She mentioned that she misses her adult daughter and wished she could see her as much as she used to as a child. I reassured her that she will always be needed! Even as I have gotten older, not a day goes by where I don’t think of my mom. Mothers are always needed no matter the age of their child, whether for laughs or advice, thank you for being there every single time!

Brax+Blou Home Organization

Shannon Baker, mother and business owner, showcases her home services and offers her perspective on organization!

I had the pleasure of meeting with Shannon Baker, owner of Brax+Blou Home Organization, one morning over coffee. Our conversation opened my eyes on the importance of home organization and decluttering. I had several questions about Shannon and her business, and Shannon let me in on all the details!

CONTINUED >

Shannon Baker is an extremely passionate woman. You see her passion for her two sons, which inspired her company name, and you see it shine through in her work as well. Shannon has lived in Texas for many years and has become a beloved member of her community. She fell into the world of home staging with ease, as she has a “natural drive to order, design, and balance.” From the time she was young, she has always placed emphasis on having order in her physical space and therefore in her life as well.

Shannon understands the need for a space to be clean and organized. Even I can remember times where my whole life has seemed out of order, solely because my space wasn’t put together. Shannon believes that home organization and decluttering is an investment into yourself and your family.

“When you have order it brings you peace, motivation, and can also save you money in the long run,”

says Shannon. Shannon takes pride in her work and truly listens to her clients' questions and concerns. She takes into account you and your family's personal situation and creates long term solutions that will be maintainable for everyone!

Not only is home organization important for you and your living space. It is also a wonderful component that can help realtors or homeowners who are looking to sell their homes. Shannon delved into the world of home staging and organizing and introduced me to the art that goes into it. Having someone put care into your home will make a world of difference to potential buyers. Shannon is wonderful at being able to put together a space that makes potential buyers feel welcome and, well, at home!  Shannon is not only great at her job, but she is also a pleasure to be around. Her passion drives her on a daily basis and she is also a wonderful artist and even a private pilot (so cool)! Shannon finds fulfillment in her discipleship and seeing people’s faces light up after she is able to work for and help them with their wants and needs. For more information on Shannon and her services, you can visit her website at https://www.braxandblou.com/
