Forge ahead into the unknown

In this day and age, so many live by the rule, "If it wasn't posted online, did it even happen?" It seems like so many of us, myself included, get easily caught up in the need to be productive or efficient. So often we forget the joy of simply exploring out of curiosity rather than content creation.

Though structure and productivity are important, they are not everything that is needed to lead a fulfilling life. The secret ingredient that's missing? Exploration! The drive to learn and be a beginner and experience unplanned, spontaneous moments with no idea where they will lead us. As humans, we  need space to be curious, explore, or just get away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives.

Recently, I went to Scarborough Fair to celebrate a birthday in the family. While there, an employee suggested we put our phones on airplane mode to save battery--especially since cell phone service out there was spotty at best. The result was a day full of laughter, connection, and memories. We had so much fun without our phones distracting us or reminding us of something irrelevant.

So, if it wasn't posted online, did it even happen? YES! And you probably had more fun or remembered more of those moments than you would if you'd been on your phone the whole time.

July is our 'explore' issue, and we have so much waiting for you in these pages. Whether you want to find some new adventures in your own backyard or you want to try your hand at being a speed racer, there's something in here for you. No matter what, let's remember to save a little space for the unknown in our lives. It'll keep you on your toes, that's for sure!

xx,

July 2025

Exploring Creativity

HARNESS YOUR CREATIVITY AT NEW SONG SCHOOL OF THE ARTS.

The path of personal discovery can lead in many directions, and choosing to explore one's creative expression can bring joy and personal growth. New Song School Of The Arts, founded by Todd and Heather Parks in 1999, fosters learning and development in music, the visual arts, and theatre for students of all ages, from young children to older adults.

With over sixty knowledgeable and accomplished instructors spread across the School of Music, School of Visual Arts, and School of Theatre, students receive the highest quality instruction, in private and group settings, that can be customized to meet an individual’s goals.

For those who are undecided as to which area of study or instrument is the best fit, New Song offers several programs to help. The Music Explorer Program allows students to try different instruments before they decide which one they want to continue learning.

The Fine Arts Explorer Program creates an environment where students explore music, art, and theatre to discover which program is the best fit for them.

“Adults seem to know a little bit more about what they want, but sometimes parents who have a four or fiveyear-old don’t know where to start,” explains Heather.

“They know their child is creative, but they don't know if the best fit is art, music, or theatre. So they can come and try it all and see how their child responds.”

New Song welcomes students of all ages and is the perfect place for adults looking to explore their creative side and check boxes on their bucket list.

“Are you the type of adult who always wanted to study music, art, or theatre when you were young but never had the chance? Well, now's your chance,”

says Heather. “Our teachers are able to understand the way adults think and know how to teach in adult language, making lessons relatable to adults and creating an enjoyable experience.”

Adults who join the New Song community are encouraged to set goals, and instructors help them develop a customized project-focused plan that ensures progress to reach those goals.

Adults looking to explore art can sign up for classes and Sip & Paint events held throughout the year. For musicians looking to connect with others, New Song is launching new Adult Jam Sessions this fall, where adults who play an instrument or sing can gather and jam out with others. The school is also developing adult improv and community theatre classes tailored to adult participants.

For those who have always dreamed of having a professionally produced song, the school offers a few fun options. With the Singing and Recording Package, participants choose a favorite song or two, learn how to sing the songs, and then record and produce them in the school’s recording studio. For songwriters who desire to put their words to music, the Singing, Songwriting, and Recording Package provides the opportunity to turn words into a song and then record it.

“You’re never too old and it’s never too late,” encourages Heather. “There are benefits every step of the way, for every age, at every stage and level. Because we offer private lessons, we can meet you where you're at and develop a learning plan together that suits your goals and needs.”

New Song School Of The Arts is located at 1624 FM 407 E. in Argyle. For more information, visit newsongschoolofthearts.com or call (214) 915-2787.

“They know their child is creative, but they don’t know if the best fit is art, music, or theatre. So they can come and try it all...”

Starts ADVENTURE WITH YOU

Catherine Reese shares her perspective on the importance of nature.

Going on an adventure can look different for everyone. Whether you’re finding a local picnic spot or taking a stroll through your neighborhood, it’s important for people to get outside and explore. Catherine Reese, nature photographer, expressed her beliefs that exploring should be a vital part of one's life. “Our world is so beautiful and it doesn’t take going on an international trip in order to see its beauty,” says Catherine.

Catherine began her career in portrait photography, and after 25 years, she began to pursue her passion for nature & wildlife photography. She has faced many challenges in this career; from long flights that are hard on the body, to poor weather conditions and other issues that can’t be planned for, Catherine has seen it all. With this career, Catherine has become more keen to her surroundings, more

knowledgeable about wildlife, and overall has become very in tune with nature. Catherine recalls experiences where she is breathtakingly close to wildlife, one time being an elephant! Although those moments are scary, they remind her how insignificant some things we magnify are. “We are one small spec. This work has taught me that life is short and we should experience it! Savor it, breathe, and appreciate

the moment — it helps put things in perspective, especially the worries that feel bigger than they are.”

A huge motivator for Catherine sharing her art is inspiring others to connect with the world around them. Whether you go out of town or in your own backyard, there is life and beauty to experience everywhere! A few local gems special to Catherine are Marian Samson Park, Lake Worth, and Eagle Mountain Lake; all beautiful places to explore and ease your mind. “I want people to have a

sense of peace; nature grounds you and I hope those who see my art become inspired to live with more purpose and presence.” says Catherine.

To continue inspiring others, Catherine is offering a free print to a Northlake City Lifestyle reader! She will be choosing the winner on July 15; for more information, you can visit her Facebook, Catherine Reese Fine Art Photography, or visit her website https://www. catherinereese.com/

EXPERIENCE THE RUSH OF RACING AT LONE STAR KARTPARK.

ARTICLE BY MICHELLE PARNELL PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAVANNA ROMANO
“GOING FAST IS FUN, BUT SAFETY IS THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF ANYTHING THAT WE DO HERE.”

Have you ever wanted to experience the adrenaline of driving fast or feel the rush of competitive racing? Lone Star Kartpark is ready to provide the thrill of a lifetime! Novice, experienced, and even professional racers can all enjoy racing around this track--at 50 mph, no less! The .6 mile racetrack provides an exciting challenge for those who want to experience racing at a reasonable cost.

Racers can make their way around the .6 mile track for 10 minutes, or about 8-12 revolutions around. Who is this for? Everyone! The owners of Lone Star Kartpark are ready for everything, ranging from birthday parties to corporate events to friends who want a new, exciting place

to hang out and earn bragging rights. Who else can say that they raced at Texas Motor Speedway?!

For people who want to experience motorsports racing but may not yet have the financial backing to purchase karts and equipment, Lone Star Kartpark offers the opportunity to experience and participate in their competitive Racing League for an entry fee.

Equipment and safety gear needed for races are available at Lone Star Kartpark, and the trained staff ensure each person who steps onto the track is well-versed in safety procedures. Drivers complete a safety and equipment briefing before hitting the track so that they understand how

the karts work, are properly fitted with safety equipment, and recognize the different flags and procedures for the track.

“Going fast is fun, but safety is the primary focus of anything that we do here,” explains Damon Cuccia, General Manager. “We make sure that the karts are safe for the person to operate, but also that the person understands how to operate it in a safe manner.”

With all the details covered, time spent racing at Lone Star Kartpark is a guaranteed great time!

Lone Star Kartpark is located at 3545 Lone Star Circle in Fort Worth. For more information, visit lonestarkartpark.com or call 940-240-2727. Also follow @LoneStarKartpark on Facebook and Instagram.

ERIK MARTIN SHARES THE IMPORTANCE OF CREATING YOUR ESTATE PLAN.

Plan For Success With Erik Martin

ARTICLE BY KENNEDY WOOD | PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAVANNA ROMANO
“One of my main goals is keeping families together by leaving a roadmap and a leader to guide them.”

Erik Martin has had a very successful career thus far; after working as a lawyer in oil and gas for some time, he decided to switch over careers and begin working as an estate lawyer. Erik describes his career now as more of a passion project rather than just a job and he now gets the opportunity to educate and guide everyday folks in their estate planning process. What is an estate plan, you may be asking. An estate plan, in simpler terms, is one's will that they create to prepare for and to protect their loved ones after their death.

Although many people don’t love to sit around and think about their death, it is unavoidable, and having an estate plan is so important! Since working as an estate lawyer, Erik has built a system that is not only almost effortless on your part, but he also thinks of everything you need to protect you and your loved ones, and he includes it in your plan. Not only does Erik put together your will, but he also keeps other things in mind that you may need one day, such as a power of attorney. These extra bits and pieces that he adds to your estate plan are all part of the cost and are put into place to protect you and your loved ones. One aspect that Erik spoke about was that many people simply haven't been given the information needed to feel at ease when it comes to thinking about their will, including us! Going into this interview, I had my own perspective on what it is like to create a will, however, I was very wrong. What I thought was without a doubt a very uncomfortable, unaffordable, hassle, can actually be a very simple and reasonably priced process that leaves you undaunted.

Speaking with Erik gave me new insight on why it is important to complete an estate plan before passing. Erik has seen firsthand the turmoil, money loss, and stress that can be left on loved ones' shoulders if an estate plan is not put into place. Without it, there is too much gray area that one can take advantage of, or it can leave someone in an extremely high stress situation where they are unsure what to do and may cause them to make poor decisions during the process. These situations that can cause friction among family members and leave them feeling crushed by the weight of the process, are exactly the situations that we want to avoid. With a proper estate plan, all the questions will be answered and everything will be taken care of exactly how you asked.

Erik knows exactly what you need in order to protect yourself and your loved ones once you are gone, and he makes the process efficient and pleasant. Once you speak with Erik, you can set up an appointment to meet with him if needed, or he has created a form that he sends you electronically that you can fill out on your own time instead. This questionnaire will have you answer questions including your basic information, what will be in your estate plan, power of attorney, and if you need to add anything extra or get clarity, you can let Erik know and he will implement whatever it is that you may need. Everything Erik offers is included in one price, and he goes above and beyond with creating your estate plan; he will guide you through the process and get things done quickly and efficiently for you.

Erik shared that only about 30% of people have created their estate plan; therefore, he is currently hosting shows and events in the DFW area to spread awareness about the importance of completing that process. He will be putting on one event a month for the next 9 months, where there is not only information, but also entertainment and lots of fun! If you are nearing your 30s, married, and/or have children, he and his team

urge you to begin your planning. Once you complete this process, you won’t have to worry about it again, especially if you are getting help through Erik! For more information on these events, you can visit Panther City Syndicate’s Facebook page. If you would like to reach out to Erik Martin for more information or to get started on your estate planning, you can reach him at info@martinlawyers.com.
