I AM A “SOUL-PRENEUR” WHO STRIVES TO INSPIRE OTHERS. My creations not only express but reflect my life, heartbeat and soul. I find tremendous joy in converting art into handcrafted jewelry that echoes a message of hope and encouragement. I draw inspiration from my faith, loving husband, seven kids, family and friends and the lives of others, and I try to embrace all with an Ahava love. From a young age, my passion for anything creative has set me alive. After getting my art degree and working in the workplace as a graphic designer, my desire to become a stayat-home mom came to fruition. With that came an ongoing balancing act of structuring my day to be healthy in all areas. Some days are successful; other days are chalked up with grace. In this process, I’ve learned that I can’t be who I am to the people around me unless I take care of myself. One of those ways is allowing time to relish in the wonder of art and expression, and, in turn, gifting it. My jewelry business began in that manner. I was in my zone, thinking of what I could make for my sisters for Christmas and I asked them, “If you could describe our relationship in one to three words, what would you say?” Their answer was "understood." That was the first cuff of thousands that I have made. At the time, I didn’t have any idea that this would soon become a bridge of hope and inspiration, but I loved the idea that I was able to create something that was fashionable, customizable and with meaning. Each piece of art is all done by hand with intention, from cutting, painting and distressing the leather to stamping each word one letter at a time. My goal is to tailor a piece of art that speaks to you and is one of a kind—something that could bring hope, love and encouragement and that will allow you to share your journey/story with others.

Started in 2016 by Dr. Monika Barakat, an orthodontist with more than 10 years of experience, it pairs state-of-the-art technology such as 3-D digital imaging, digital intraoral scanning and clear aligner therapy with a dedication to achieving a confident, beautiful smile in patients of all ages. More important than technology and training alone, however, is the care with which Barakat approaches each patient. As a mother of two, she realizes that choosing an orthodontist can be a very difficult decision and takes the responsibility of caring for her patients and educating their families to heart. Barakat and her team truly believe in the importance of family and a healthy, vibrant community. Since joining the North Scottsdale community, they have participated in countless local events and school fundraisers, sponsored local teams and participated in many charitable events. It has been a tremendous privilege giving back and becoming part of the fabric of this great community.

From-Scratch Pasta Yield: 1 pound WHAT YOU NEED

2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting 4 large eggs WHAT YOU DO

1. Mound the flour in the center of a work surface with a well in the middle. Crack the eggs into the well and beat with a fork until smooth, then work flour into eggs with the fork. Use a bench scraper to work in the rest of the flour a little at a time. When the flour is incorporated, form the dough with your hands into a rounded mass for kneading. Lightly dust your workspace with flour and knead dough about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Cover dough with a bowl or plastic wrap and rest 1 1/2 hours, or chill overnight. 2. To roll by hand, flour a clean work surface. Vigorously roll dough to a very thin circle and roll constantly with even pressure as it stretches for several minutes until as thin as possible, almost translucent. 3. To cut by hand, lightly fold sheets one at a time into thirds and cut to desired thickness. Recipe from MarthaStewart.com.

Add the vanilla, stir until smooth and set aside to cool for 1 hour at room temperature. 2. Beat chocolate at medium speed until thick and light-colored. Spread over the bottom of a baking dish, smooth and refrigerate 2 hours until firm. 3. Pour cocoa powder onto a deep plate or shallow bowl, and using a melon baller or small ice cream scoop, scoop out balls of chocolate. Roll in cocoa powder until coated and transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Recipe from FoodNetwork.com.
