GET THE LOOK Having an outdoor sanctuary was key in designing this home. Perhaps most appealing are the hanging benches from wooden planking adorned with twinkling tea lights on the patio. Capturing this look in your own home is easy and affordable. A visit to Hayneedle.com will bring you many options in hanging benches. For a similar beachfront look, try the Belham Living Brighton Deep Seating 65-inch Porch Swing Bed for $379. You can add on the 11-Watt Outdoor Weatherproof String Light Set by Newhouse Lighting. (CON TI N U ED)
BARRE WORKOUTS ARE A NEW AND INNOVATIVE CONCEPT THAT ARE STARTING TO GAIN MORE INTEREST WITH NORTH SCOTTSDALE RESIDENTS, AND BARRE3 IS ONE PLACE TO EXPERIENCE THE WORKOUT. The goal at barre3 is to bring balance to the mind and body through low-impact movements designed to give the entire body a workout. Completing these workouts will leave you feeling nothing short of amazing! The workouts are designed to build muscle tone, increase metabolism and promote weight loss. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to barre3. The amazing instructors encourage individuals to make the necessary adaptations in each workout to suit their own needs for that day. The results don’t only result in physical benefits, but mental and emotional benefits as well. To put it simply: You’ll feel good! One resident says, “I love the barre3 philosophy. Having done so many different kinds of workouts over the years, being in an environment where the emphasis is on feeling strong and balanced is so refreshing!” At barre3, people don’t just come for the workouts— the community is equally inviting. It’s a place where everyone is smiling, supportive and there to move their bodies with the same goal in mind. Owner Karie Johnson believes, “Give generously—to yourself and to others.” This is an evident theme each and every time you walk through the doors at barre3. BODY AWARENESS BODY AWARENESS Body awareness is a term often left unsaid in the fitness world. If fitness enthusiasts open their minds to the concept of looking at what their bodies can do, a workout can be more fulfilling, and results can be more permanent. GOLF TRAINING GOLF TRAINING Kim Redus, head fitness coach at Anytime Fitness The Peaks and Anytime Fitness North Scottsdale, provides high-quality programs for her clientele in the Grayhawk Community as well as Whisper Rock and the Boulders. With a heavy focus on the golf community, she was looking for a way to cater to those looking for intensive golf training that would be on par with professionals. Kim reached out to Craig Hocknull, owner and inventor of The Saber Golf Trainer, an ultimate golf and fitness crossover tool that is designed to help every golfer improve their strength, speed, timing and technique. Craig has seen great gains in his own game and body. And, after using the Saber as a coach, he knows he has proven results with his students as well. A visit to Anytime Fitness for instruction in golf fitness training, includes a baseline assessment to help recognize the breakdown of movement in one’s swing, coupled with a 3-D swing analysis using the K-Vest technology which tracks the sequence of the golf swing from start to finish and a program designed with the use of the Saber and other fitness tools. Purchase your Saber at SaberGolfTrainer.com and then visit Anytime Fitness for a full fitness experience. 30

CROSSFIT TAKING THE INTIMIDATION OUT OF CROSSFIT Taking the jiggle out of your wiggle? That is the promise Blur Crossfit makes to its clientele. While humor has served owner Jake Homberg and his staff well since 2011, he promises an intense workout too. “We consider ourselves to be an adult playground; you’re at recess when you’re here," Jake says. "It’s a chance for adults to break away from their corporate day to have some fun and fitness and then go back to it with more energy. It’s empowering, really." Blur offers innovative personal training with twice the value for half the cost. Their workouts combined with a friendly environment set this gym apart. “Blur is a loving place where everyone feels welcomed at any fitness level," he says. "We think humor is an integral part of enjoying your time at the gym." Strength and conditioning is the focus of the programs offered at Blur. It’s a scalable workout that can be completed by almost anyone. The camaraderie Jake finds this sets the tone for is unparalleled. “We overcome many obstacles at Blur, and that makes you confident outside the gym as well," he says. It’s Confession TimE SECRETS FROM LOCAL TRAINER SUZY REZAC
THERE IS NOTHING UNUSUAL ABOUT SHARING EXERCISES, CHEAT MEALS AND HOW SORE WE FEEL WITH GYM BUDDIES. However, learning about what trainers have to say about these same experiences can be out of the ordinary and sometimes even funny. Check out what Suzy Rezac, certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor, had to say about her own personal experiences as a trainer.
1. “My least favorite topic to teach my clients is nutrition. I can control my client's physical activity. I can’t control what they choose to eat or drink.” 2. “I have no problem calling it like I see it. I have had to tell clients that they have very bad breath. Yikes, halitosis!” 3. “Competing in natural bodybuilding was the vainest thing I've ever done! I learned a lot personally and professionally, but I don’t want to do it again.”
For more information on Suzy, find her on Facebook, @Suzy-Muse-Rezac.
