The thing I love most about publishing this magazine is being a part of my community. Not only is this magazine a mirror that reflects the people, businesses, and happenings that make up our community, but it offers me and my entire editorial team the chance to CREATE community.
On January 20th, we co-hosted the inaugural North Peoria Home Show in partnership with Tyler Croft of Croft & Co Lending. At first, this seemed insurmountable, but with just a few phone calls, we discovered our community was thirsty for an event like this.
What felt like an uphill climb to reach our goal of securing 60 home services vendors, we far surpassed that. We had to cut off the requests for booth space! Our event hosted 400 attendees, over 90 hand-curated vendors, the Vitalant Bloodmobile, The Peoria Chamber of Commerce, the City of Peoria, an incredible raffle with over 20 prizes, a DJ to make it a fun vibe, and delicious food trucks to keep bellies full.
We worked hard to invite established and emerging smaller businesses who might otherwise not have the budget or resources to participate in a home show. This opportunity was a gift to them, and we have heard nothing but outstanding success stories from our vendors. One pool vendor, Radiant Waters, got more leads than they do at larger home shows, and they are based in North Peoria.
That was the entire point of this – to create a physical space where Peoria-based businesses could meet local homeowners, and local homeowners could find local services so the money, time, and talent stay right here where it belongs.
There were two special attendees: This magazine’s incredible Managing Editor, Susan Lanier-Graham, and our Social Media and Community Manager, Nichole Eckman. These two content professionals walked every booth to interview, photograph, and video our vendors. They got to know them, and they will be highlighted on @northpeorialifestyle and also in this issue.
It warmed my heart to host the event with Tyler. We plan on doing another one in the fall, so follow us on Instagram @northpeoriahomeshow for announcements. If you attended, we would love your feedback! And, if you want to be a part of the next one, give us a shout. I know you will enjoy reading about it inside this issue – and please, as always, shop local!

“A year after my surgery I was still experiencing pain and numbness. Physical therapy had helped to a point, but I still wasn't able to resume my normal training without aggravating my back and being forced to limit my activity. Dr. Mitchell and his team immediately identified the problem areas and came up with a treatment plan. After the first visit, I had significant relief and have seen continuous improvement since then.”

Incorporating the Pantone Color of the Year into Your Home
For 2024, Pantone named PANTONE 13-1023
Peach Fuzz as the color of the year. Peach Fuzz is a warm color that is less pink and more orange. In fact, it has been described as a pastel version of orange.
Peach Fuzz pairs nicely with neutrals and natural materials like wicker and bamboo or sisal rugs. Use that color wheel!
Pantone describes Peach Fuzz as a velvety, gentle peach, perfect for creating a welcoming, peaceful space. Lean into that warmth and accent Peach Fuzz with blues and lavenders.
We chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.
—Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone Executive DirectorHead to the Pantone website (Pantone.com) for the latest coordinating accessories designed to inspire cheerfulness. The Ruggable X Pantone Collection offers high-quality, washable rugs for every room. Spoonflower partnered with Pantone to feature print-on-demand wallpaper and fabric.
STYLE YOUR HOME IN TONES AND TEXTURES WITH DESIGN HELP FROM HOUZZ INTERIOR DESIGN EXPERTS
ARTICLE BY NICOLETTE MARTINDecorate your space with handmade textures such as the modern, maker revival of 1970s macramé and year-round tropical feel of wicker. MACRAMÉ Made through knotting instead of weaving, macramé can add a unique touch in many various ways. Houzz contributor Laura Gaskill suggests incorporating it as nursery decor, plant hangers, wall hangings and modern fiber arts. WICKER According to Houzz contributor Yanic Simard, “the best way to really embrace the luxury-cottage appeal of wicker and rattan is to combine different forms of the two in one space... Look for other unexpected places to add a natural twist to your home with a new material woven into your palette.”
Houzz contributor Katie Treggiden offers many ways to incorporate natural materials and natural-state timber into your home, including using wood to cover one wall in a home for a pleasing accent wall; featuring your firewood as a striking, stacked display; and mixing different types of wood and different finishes in the same space. “A simple way to incorporate the wood trend is to expose structural wooden beams already present in your home,” Katie says. “Instead of painting them or boxing them in, leave them raw or give them a coat of wax to enrich the tones.”
Do you feel like your all-white room is missing something? Houzz contributor Kelly Porter bets what’s missing is energy.
“The best way to add a spark to any space,” she says, “is with bright color.”
Kelly says green is one of the easiest colors to live with, looking organic even in its more vivid tones.
“When searching for the perfect bright green, think springtime—fresh green grass and newly sprouted leaves,” she says. “These greens have lively undertones that will look comfortable and warm in your white space.
Other colors Kelly recommends adding as accents are yellow, royal blue, orange, blue-purple, red-purple and sky blue.
