It also celebrates the love of friends, parents, siblings, even neighbors and elderly aunts. But it also means loving what's near; those under your own roof included. So plan that family game night, grab some snacks and have a movie night. Speaking of local, we often take for granted the significant historical significance Washington Crossing has for our country. On Christmas Night, 1776, George Washington famously led the Continental Army on a daring maneuver across the Delaware River, resulting in a remarkable victory over Hessian soldiers at the Battle of Trenton on Dec. 26. We’re pleased to highlight the most recent re-enactment of that event within this edition on pages 28-29. We’ve always believed what we can do together is so much more than what we can do apart. And we continue to see that demonstrated through the many stories told in these pages month after month. Thanks for letting us be a part of the life you’re building, whatever that may look like. Our hope is that we inspire you to love it just a bit more than you did before. Wegmans Supermarket To Come To Lower Makefield Township Wegmans officials announced their new location at Stony Hill Road in Yardley is scheduled to open on March 20 at 9 a.m. Store Manager Bill Platt says the 88,000-square-foot supermarket will employ 415 people with 155 fulltime workers and 260 part-time employees. Wegmans is a part of the Prickett Preserve development, which reportedly includes nine multi-family buildings containing 200 apartment units plus a clubhouse with a pool, and seven commercial buildings totaling 52,000 square feet.

She says pediatric services start within six months of a child's first tooth emerging, or no later than the age of 1 year. She adds that the program extends through children's teenage years. Most of the initial visits center on preventing cavities and nutritional counseling. "I adore connecting with children, in all their different personalities, making them feel empowered and comfortable, as well as establishing an open door policy with their caregivers. I feel like patients are extended family members," says Dr. Dhruva, who herself is the mother of a 3-year-old and nine-month-old infant. As a pediatric dentist, Dr. Dhruva helps children cultivate a lifetime of outstanding oral health. She says she tries to make every dental visit fun for youngsters, including prizes and leaving on happy, positive notes. "I'm passionate about ensuring dentist visits are worry-free experiences for our young patients as well their parents," she adds. She says she's grateful to be part of the Newtown community whose families are caring people interested in protecting and enhancing their children's health. "I truly believe each child is unique, so I cater to each of their individual needs. I use an approach of tell/show/do. We explain what we're going to do, we show them what we're going to do, and then we do it," she explains.

"IT'S ABOUT PROMPTING A LIFETIME OF BENEFICIAL ORAL HEALTH." Children don't even have to conform to sitting in the dental chair at first. This dentist says she's happy to handle activities while patients are in a stroller, holding their parent's hand, singing a song, or sitting on their guardian's lap. "Whatever it takes to desensitize them. They can raise their hand, and we give them a break." Dr. Dhruva is a board-certified pediatric dentist, and is an active member of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. "Building trusting relationships is crucial. I wouldn't do any dental practices to young patients that I wouldn't do on my own kids," vows Dr. Dhruva. Dr. Heine says with two general dentists available in the office, pediatric patients move on into an already familiar environment, thereby reducing the need to find a new dental office as they age. "Our patients see the same dentist and team each time they visit because we've intentionally set up a patient-centered experience," he adds. Many local residents likely will be 'seeing red' this month, just in the opposite, positive, happy way! Jessica Heisen, founder of Bucks County Balloons, creates dynamic balloon collections and yard cards for every season, including superb matches for Valentine's Day gift giving.

While Jessica says she designs several cupidthemed bouquets that can be delivered in Bucks County and the surrounding areas, she also assists with special requests. She's happy to fashion balloon deliveries to dress up gazebos, tabletops or storefronts for holidays, too. "We're delighted to deliver customers' evidence and displays of happiness, admiration or celebration, and we encourage everyone to consider securing customized balloon creations or unique yard cards to stand out this Valentine's Day," Jessica says. One of her mainstay products is the “Pop Me” balloon in which any themed objects such as candy, confetti, or even plush animals, can be placed in a large clear balloon. It’s the present-day piñata and a unique party favorite. It’s also likely from where her business slogan, “Life is Short, Pop More Balloons!” originated. She also specializes in large background balloon installations, feather walls or shimmer walls, which are best served as a photo backdrop or a dramatic display at entry and key points of a party location. She says she can design a balloon bouquet for any occasion, fusing a customer’s request along with her creative and artistic mind. She also can provide fringe party backdrops, custom confetti, birthday banners and cake toppers. "We can do fantastic, colorful displays to spruce up any affair," says Jessica. She also rents lit-up marquee items, pedestals, florals, flower boxes, various types of specialty chairs, centerpieces, fabric backdrops and custom party décor.

As sure as art is a portion of architecture, the drive to create murals runs deep in a local artist who is a native Ukrainian residing in the Newtown area. Oleg Savytskyy (Олег Савицький) says he and his wife, Yuliia Shvets (Юлія Швець), came to the United States during the winter of 2021 to execute a business project in New York. "But then the war in Ukraine began. My native town was almost occupied, and I had no place to go back to, so I decided to help from here." Oleg's mural works are a part of the fabric of Bushwick (Brooklyn), Great Neck (Long Island), Jamison (Pennsylvania) and of course, Ukraine. "I began drawing from my early childhood, and my first murals were at the age of 13 years. I asked my school principal to draw and create on one of our school walls, and he agreed," recalls Oleg. "From this, everything started." CONTINUED >

Oleg went on to complete a master's degree in art. He says he tried sculpting and classic art forms, such as canvases and oil paintings. As a creator in an overall sense, Oleg's second artistic passion was dedicated to architecture and design. For the last 18 years, he's worked as an architectural designer. During 2022, he earned a bachelor's degree in architecture. "I like to mix different kinds of styles: photorealistic with expression. But every project I do is individual. Also, I have my noncommercial style, where I like to draw fantastic houses and creatures." Oleg says he would like to create a new, public mural locally, or at least in Pennsylvania. In comparing American mural styles to other cultures or locations in which Oleg's delivered paintings, he says: "Art in the US is very impressive with a multicultural background that is perfectly combined with the unique style of each artist. I'm inspired by a lot of pieces, from Wynwood (Miami) to Bushwik's Street and Philadelphia." "Nowadays, I put effort into volunteering in Ukraine and supporting my friends and family there. However, it wasn’t until the 19th century that chocolate confections started appearing in cookbooks. Improvements in cocoa-processing created a much smoother, more delicious-tasting chocolate. This combined with a drop in the price of sugar led to the now-ubiquitous association of chocolate treats, especially candy, with Valentine’s Day gift-giving, alongside flowers and fancifully decorated cards. As a result, candy manufacturers crafted heart-shaped boxes of chocolates decorated in the style of elegant Victorian Valentine’s Day cards. The following two recipes are perfect ways to demonstrate love and affection for your favorite Valentine(s). Preheat oven to 350°F. 2.Beat the egg yolks and sugar together in a large bowl on medium-high speed for about 2–3 minutes until a pale yellow color. Slowly add the flour and grated chocolate and mix well. 3. In a separate glass or stainless steel bowl, beat the egg whites on medium until soft peaks form, about 3–4 minutes. Gently fold into chocolate mixture. 4. Spoon the batter into mini heart-shaped cupcake pans or molds lined with baking papers. Bake for 10–12 minutes and then remove to a wire rack. 5. When the biscuits have cooled, place the chocolate chips in a glass bowl. Microwave on high in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until melted. Dip the biscuits into the melted chocolate or spread chocolate carefully over the biscuits. Allow to cool thoroughly before serving; the chocolate will harden and form a nice glaze.

[makes about 2 1/2 dozen] Deliciously chewy with a slightly crispy coating, chocolate puffs are delightful meringue cookies reminiscent of a baked chocolate mousse. Grating the chocolate gives the cookies a pretty speckled look and really boosts the flavor. Special Valentine recipients will appreciate this indulgent treat made with love! ingredients • 2 ounces (1/2 package) unsweetened baking chocolate • 2 tablespoons cornstarch • 2 egg whites • Pinch of cream of tartar • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar

directions 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. 2.Grate the chocolate into a medium bowl using a microplate or other fine grater. Add cornstarch and stir until blended. Set aside. 3. Using an electric mixer, beat the egg whites in a stainless steel or glass bowl at a low to medium speed. Add the cream of tartar after 2 minutes, or when the egg white foam increases in volume with smaller bubbles. 4. Increase the mixer speed to medium. When the bubbles become smaller and more even in size, increase the mixer speed to medium-high. Add the sugar slowly in a steady stream at the side of the bowl. 5. Increase the mixer speed to high and continue beating until the meringue is white, fluffy, firm and still very glossy, like white cake icing. Add the chocolate mixture slowly until fully incorporated. 6. Drop spoonfuls of meringue on parchment paper–lined baking sheets and bake for 15 minutes. Cool on baking sheets for about 30 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Each December, thousands of people gather on the Delaware River banks in Washington Crossing Historic Park to watch the re-enactment of George Washington’s daring 1776 Christmas night river crossing. During the event, several hundred re-enactors in Continental military dress listen to an inspiring speech by Gen. Washington before rowing across the river in replica Durham boats. The public had the chance to see this 71st annual event on both Dec. 10 and 25, 2023. The recent narrator for those re-enactments was Jason Q. Bohm, a Marine with more than 30 years of service. An infantryman by trade, he has commanded at

every level from platoon commander to commanding general in peacetime and war. He also served in several key staff positions including as a strategic planner with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Director of the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School, House Director, Marine Corps Office of Legislative Affairs, U.S. House of Representatives, and Chief of Staff of U.S. Naval Striking and Support Forces, NATO. Jason has a bachelor’s degree in marketing, a master’s degree in military studies, and a master’s degree in national security studies. He’s written several articles for the Marine Corps Gazette and won writing awards from the Marine Corps Association.

He’s also the author of From the Cold War to ISIL: One Marines Journey (Naval Institute Press) and Washington’s Marines: The Origins of the Corps and the American Revolution 1775-1777 (Savas Beatie). The man showcased on the cover of this edition of Newtown City Lifestyle, Ronald Rinaldi, reportedly participated in Revolutionary War re-enactments along the East Coast. He earned a degree in history from George Washington University and took an internship in the military history division of the Smithsonian Institution. He went on to attend Duke University and earned a master’s degree in military history.

Finding a life partner just might be easier than finding someone you can travel with. Pace, patience and priorities all matter when organizing itineraries, straddling time zones and navigating new places. Do you like languid mornings with room service, wide sandy beaches and white-glove service? Or, do you prefer watching the sunrise in hiking boots, launching into eye-opening excursions and digging to find that hidden gem of a restaurant that serves local food to locals? When the stars align, both partners have an affinity for generally the same kind of vacation, or are willing to compromise. Enjoying travel with your mate is the icing on the (wedding) cake. Here are a few ideas for fabulously romantic getaways. Bon Voyage!

Traveling can be as stressful as it is sublime. Exhausting as it is inspiring. Traveling as a couple requires additional planning and communication with a healthy dose of patience. Much like marriage! But, waking up in a faraway place, exploring unknown terrain together and leaving your routine and all its trappings behind can be therapeutic. You both can take on new roles and release tired habits.

Write new vows over lunch or take a random nap because you can.

Share planning and talk about your goals for the trip. Do you want to completely unplug or will one of you need excellent wifi to call into a few meetings?

If you’re parents, consider setting boundaries for texting and phone calls so you can put the phone away and immerse in one another. Let the kids know you will be checking your phone at a certain time each day (and stick to that). Let the grandparents or caregivers handle the day to day drama.

Take turns charting a course for the day. On day one, you check museum opening times, get the timed tickets and find a nearby spot for a healthy lunch. On day two, you sit back and let your partner call the Uber and source out the perfect shopping district, walking distance to a park. Enjoy the ride, either way.
