As the season changes, it’s interesting to consider what Iris Apfel says about being en vogue:  “Fashion you can buy, but style you possess. The key to style is learning who you are, which takes years. There’s no how-to road map to style. It’s about self expression and, above all, attitude.” hope you enjoy this edition dedicated to Style’s influence and wide-ranging contributions to our lives.

Owners of the new Sweet P Boutique in Newtown, Leah Creter and Maria Finley, have been busy securing new clothing options to fulfill the volume of requests they're getting for fall fashions.  Fresh in their lineup is full two- or three-piece sets, along with classy trousers and shirts in multiple colors -- particularly rust, sage, olive, espresso brown, blacks, neutrals and navy. Maria admits the autumn sea son is their favorite season for which to shop, given the cozy vibe of many of the "Womenitems.of Newtown have been so supportive of the boutique, and we wouldn't be where we are without them," proclaims Leah. "Our demo graphics are broadening. People are offering to model our clothing, and they call to find out when items are going to be in, such as wedding guest dresses. We're very thankful."

The majority of the boutique's offerings stem from selections made at a New York-based fashion show, called MAGIC, that the two owners attend.

Shoppers will find an expanded denim section at Sweet P this fall, which includes boyfriend, flared, skinny, mid-rise and high-rise jeans. They also can snag popular shackets and blazers, tank basics, strapless tops and turtlenecks. Jogger separates, jogger sets and activewear will be back in full force, too. New arrivals also are available from the bou tique's website. Leah says they'll offer jolly holiday pajamas, socks and slippers, along with a Sip 'N Shop event at the boutique, 2822 S. "Our family places their picks into electronic carts, then Maria and I go through, as well, to make final selections," she says.  Maria says they are offering new collections that some may call workwear, which serves equally ver satile for holiday parties or special occasions. She says they will launch a Plus Size Line that includes belts, pants, shirts, dresses, jumpsuits and skirts.

Leah says frequently requested are clothes in the full range of sizes, especially extra smalls and extra larges. She adds that 80% of their vendors' options for autumn will include full sizing. How they go about selecting what new seasonal apparel they will offer is a multigenerational effort that includes their mothers, grandmothers and siblings.

Her website is warm and inviting, which drives her relationships with customers to be more than transactional. She often com municates directly via email, and assists customers on finding those perfect pieces they struggle to find. Ellin’s product line is mostly one-of-a-kinds found at estate sales, antique shops and vintage stores. IN HOME

As an adult, Ellin says she did the same for her own home, which she refers to as her sanctuary. She truly believes deco rating one’s home is not just to fill space, but to create a place of comfort and refuge in a self-created environment. She’s passionate about creative home décor. So passionate that she turned a personal hobby into a fast-growing digital business.

Welcome to Teresa’s Fine Home Décor.

Newtown’s Ellin Jones has been around antiques, home décor and specifically tablescapes since an early age. Her mother, Teresa, for which her future business would be named, took Ellin with her on treasure hunts to antique shops, flea markets and anywhere unique items that bring beauty and feel-good memories to their household were sold.

The business, like many in these current times, was born out of the pandemic. Ellin had some spare time and decided to turn her lifelong love of antiques and home décor into a business, a digitally native company. Being creative and business-savvy, Ellin built the professional-looking website on her own from scratch. "I've been learning the nuances of running an online business, including advertising and studying analytics," she adds.  Ellin reveals she has aspirations to expand to brick and mortar when the time is right. She also has other ideas for new selling channels within her business, such as seeking out and refurbish ing older furniture pieces to give them new life while maintaining the old vintage look. "Blogging about classic home décor and the journeys asso ciated with acquiring inventory are also on the block," she says.  Keeping her finger on the pulse of what’s trending in home décor is important to Ellin. Her repeat customers, of which she says she has many, rely on her to know what’s en vogue for the home. She believes some of the classic styles she refers to as “Grandmillennial," which is grandmother vision with a millennial twist, are currently in play. Pieces such as skirted sofas, older dishware and accent pillows are re-emerging in popularity, she divulges.

“With people feeling sort of bored post-pandemic, I think more are looking for ways to communicate through color that they really have fun things going on and that they still have style. For men, that means looking like a cross between Brad Pitt and Robert Redford this fall. For women, it’s about looking as good as Olivia Palermo, but in Soho chic, understated ways,” Tori conveys. “This fall will be like 70s retro with an eclectic feel.” She predicts unusual clothing colors or accents for fall, such as Periwinkle Blue as Pantone’s color of the year, and blues, lilac, gold, deep purples and lime green. “Most people don’t know how to mix mustard yel low or navy with these brighter colors, and that’s where we can help,” she says.

Layers of jewelry will be “enormous” this fall, she adds, with necklaces of all lengths and chunkiness. Basically, she predicts statement jewelry that’s inspired by vintage style with modern twists will be sought.

Brian Miller expertly showcases Strada attire.

“We also have a few sheer floral shirts with burnt dye colors, for men who are more daring. It’s like a surfer feel for fall, but definitely not Hawaiian. It’s more like The Brandy Bunch meets Woodstockish elements, and when men put on the right pair of jeans and sunglasses with this, it’s a really fantastic look,” Tori assures.

Strada-Attire.com215.282.8117

Since opening during February 2021, Tori has provided trendy jeans, shirts, dresses, skirts, bodysuits and accessories, such as pillows, hats, belts and handbags. This fall, she says she has dresses with pockets, sweat ers, business casual pieces, women’s suits, shackets, scarves, belts for cinching and a huge amount of denim, especially for men.

Strada shoppers are treated to com plimentary cocktails, wine, champagne, water, juice and cigars with purchases from the store. They also offer tailor services for anyone who needs alterations. Tori says they have special events in the works for fall, such as a Cigar Bar, Tequila Night, Bourbon Night and an opportunity to receive complimentary skin analyses with The Well Lounge medical experts. Free delivery on orders of more than $99 is also provided to Strada’s clientele.

As for autumn surprises, Tori is merging Holy Chic Boutique for children’s clothing into the Strada location. She says there are separate entrances and rooms, enabling independent shopping experiences, yet convenient for families with multiple needs.

Laura says pops of bright colors, such as jewel tones, pinks and purples, are spilling over into autumn sought-after apparel. "I think more people are expressing themselves through color. We all want happier, festive fabrics. And we want clothes that feel com fortable at home as well as wearing to brunch."

Longer silhouette options are being requested by customers, reveals Laura. "Not so much maxis, but more unique pieces, particularly with tulle added," she says.

A new clothing line, Show Me Your Mumu, is being added to Lunachick's repertoire for all ages. Cologne Trude and Cammy Miller are the founders behind this clothing brand. They launched the company while living in New York City, reportedly starting it on a whim after they made their own mumus while vacation ing in Miami when they couldn’t find the perfect outfit to take them from beach to nightclub. Show Me Your Mumu is now a Los Angeles-based megabrand, who have dressed famous fans, such as Kendall Jenner and Alessandra Ambrosio.

Jewelry is a big seller at Lunachick. Laura says their single-stud earrings, under their own custom brand Studio, are all quality sterling silver. "It's like we have a store within the store regarding these colored earrings. Wider hoops and emerald colors are very popular," she adds.

Since Laura introduced a curated col lection of shoes to the shop, she says she's also added Western boots. She says the white, red metallic and pink metallic boots have been widely popular. "These fun cow boy boots are perfect for women who want to liven up denim dresses or skirts."

Laura says more sparkly clothing items will be added closer to the holiday period.  Catering to a wider age range of fashion needs, Laura says her "Luna Girls" mentors have been instrumental in giving the store the edge regarding style trends. Luna Girls refers to those young women who have worked at the shop or model the clothes along the way and now are in colleges throughout the United States. Laura says this vast network of women provide feedback and help them keep their pulse on what styles are trending. I've always been drawn to fabric first, then creating what I thought it would best shape into. Refinishing of old pieces and making them new definitely helps limit waste for the overall ecosystem, Dominique reminds. "I try to donate to charitable groups that need furniture. Upcycling definitely is best for our environment."

Recently, Dominique says she also converted an old piano into a bar. "The piano was a gift from a former boss, and I just couldn’t part with it. Keeping these old pieces is so important to me," she says. "Many clients don’t know what to do with old items and have a hard time getting rid of nostalgic pieces. I love finding new pur pose, so the story can carry on to the next generation."

Because that old sewing machine was too hard to part with, she used the base and made it into her desk by using an old marble hearth from a job for which she'd kept the remnant.

"I feel the overall mindset of 'less is more' has transformed many people throughout the [COVID-19] pandemic. People hav ing to live and work within their own homes created this mindset of cleaner, simpler spaces to maintain. Formal dining and living rooms that were hardly used became offices. Neutral palettes created calming atmospheres. Knickknacks are being replaced with more greenery and plants, bringing the outside into indoor spaces," she says.  People can better pinpoint their own personal home decor styles, Dominique suggests, by analyzing online what designers are doing with spaces all over the world. "Seeing how designers transform spaces is at everyone’s fingertips and finding one's style is kind of like walking around a candy shop," she says. "When you see what you like, you just gravitate toward it. I've told customers they'll realize what they like by being able to quickly eliminate what they don’t like."

Dominique also serves as the lead designer for the Newtown Borough condominiums at State and Court street in Newtown. She works one-on-one with buyers in all their selections from flooring to built-ins, as well kitchen and bathroom designs. "Rock Construction has done a great job of giving their customers this individual treatment while also keeping the integrity of the Newtown design. We've also redesigned floorplans to fit the func tion and flow for households. It's truly a custom experience for these homeowners," she says.

Dominique's grandmother's sewing machine she made into a desk. Old marble hearth from a job lays as desk top. Grandmother's living room furniture, reupholstered and painted from cherry to black. Pretty much every item in the room was found at antique shop.

She believes overall style is trending more natural aesthetics, due to an overall return to senses based in organic roots and reality.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE | HEALTH + WELLNESS Tracy Nucera and Kate Golden, of The Well Lounge 34

Many would agree that looking good leads to feeling good, as enhanced outer beauty promotes a greater sense of con fidence and well-being. One look at The Well Lounge's light, bright and fresh interior makes it clear that it's no typical med-spa. Opened during March 2021 as part glam/part earthy, the 'green, front entrance' was conceived by Nina Olive of The Salt Cave in Newtown. A wall of mirrors, hang ing chandeliers and other greenery (thanks to Maria Pino Designs) "helps make the practice more inviting," says Kate Golden, executive director.  Along with Kate, who manages the 5,000 square-foot wellness center belonging to the adjacent Newtown Athletic Club (commonly known as the “NAC"), this 21st-century oasis for inner and outer health, wellness and beauty is led by Tracy Nucera, director of aesthetics and registered nurse for more than 20 years. She worked at the University of Pennsylvania before shifting to aesthetic medicine in 2003. Trained by a top California plastic sur geon responsible for developing one of the nation's early medical aesthetics practices, Tracy says she's passionate about listening to her patients’ life stories, understand ing their desired results and teaching them how to be the best versions of themselves, while helping them recognize their true inner and outer beauty.

The visions and styles of all three professionals aligned with "creating an environment where you didn’t only feel welcome, but that the space, brand and culture invited you to feel your best," says Kate. Thanks to the doctor's input, The Well Lounge is enhanced by a much-anticipated membership medicine program, known as Platinum Health Membership – those interested must add their names to a waitlist – that takes health and wellness to a whole new level. Focused on pre vention, the program includes a yearly consultation with a board-certified doctor to create a health plan along with around-the-clock physician access via phone and Facetime, and NAC membership. Additionally, all members have a personal health coach for support, accountability and help navigating the often complex health care system.

Inside and Out Enhancing Wellness

Cutting-Edge Facility Offers 21st Century Approach To Wellness

For Kate, the concept of an entire space devoted to wellness and beauty was personally significant. "I was over weight during childhood and high school, before experi encing dramatic weight loss her senior year," she reflects. She says she never felt she belonged at the gym. So, it’s par ticularly ironic that she had worked at a fitness club for more than a decade. Early on, Kate remembers feeling intimidated at their gym, selecting an inconspicuous elliptical machine in the back. Eventually, this changed when a friend invited her to join her on the main fitness floor and introduced her to various exercises and to other members.

Kate and Tracy initially met virtually in 2020 to discuss a potential partnership after being introduced by NAC owner Jim Worthington. They recall that their mutual passion and respect was clearly apparent. Their shared dream became fully realized with the help of board-certified emergency physician, Dr. Seth Althoff, who in 2019, contacted the NAC about offering potential medi cal concierge services to club members. With 20-plus years of experience, he says he believes patients need additional time and personal attention to uncover the root causes for their health issues. "I believe strongly in the importance of holistic services, including regular exercise, stretching and recovery time, nutrition and stress management, to com plement traditional medicine in providing top-notch care."

Kate, Tracy and the rest of the team are excited for what's to come. "We're always working to improve, enhance or bring the best treatments or wellness services to the com munity," Kate says. An exciting addition is a second location opening at the Horsham Athletic Club. Among its offerings, this location will feature "exclusive" treatments and addi tional hours. "This expansion is unbelievably exciting to our entire team – especially with only a little over a year in business," she says. With so much happening in such a short time, Kate is thankful to be surrounded by such an uplifting environ ment each day. "We always feel so blessed and lucky when we hear what our patients say about our providers, ser vices, treatments, and atmosphere," she says. "We often hear patients say their providers truly listen to them and have their best interests in mind to determine the best treatment plan possible."

The Well Lounge also may be the ideal way to spend a day or night out. Patients are encouraged to make self-care a group gathering for good times and perks, such as special packages and promotions. And, with the NAC next door, VIP party hosts and guests have full access to the club, group workout classes, and cabana rentals at the NAC's Escape Pool Resort. While hosts typically bring their own food and beverages, Kate explains that this also can be arranged on-site.

Tracy's dream, she says, "even when Hollywood began to change the aesthetic industry and promoted the over done look of changing your appearance, was to help [her] patients look natural and create a welcoming space inspired to help them look and feel their best."

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE | HEALTH + WELLNESS

In addition to Seth and Tracy, The Well Lounge has three additional providers. Alina Vitorsky, an aesthetic nurse injector and registered nurse with more than a decade of experience, who has combined her love for beauty, aesthetics, nursing and medicine. She is joined by two licensed master estheticians, Lori Giampolo, who has 20-plus years in nursing, skincare and aesthetics, and Tina Alexander, who has 10-plus years of experience in microneedling and acne treatments, with several years spent teaching laser treatments, chemical peels and lashes. Non-invasive beauty procedures have increased in popu larity, thanks to the times, living in this Instagram-obsessed, selfie-crazed world where seeing one’s appearance in virtual meetings is now a norm. With this gain in popularity has come a greater demand for less invasive cosmetic enhance ment, skincare and hair removal procedures. The Well Lounge offers a little bit of everything, from filler injections and wrinkle relaxers, such as Botox, to medical grade facial treatments, including thread lifts, micro needling, medical peels and diamond glow facials, to laser treatments, such as Halo and BBL laser and laser hair removal.

"Options for VIP parties are nearly endless," explains Kate. "We want the entire VIP party experience to be as personalized and detailed as the host wants." She says their most common parties include special pricing on BOTOX and filler, skin services and products but that party hosts can also choose from other options, including laser treat ments, EmsculptNEO and facials. Kate recalls one truly unique personalized party, which included yoga, a pop-up boutique and catered food and drink.

Special events, including birthday parties, bridal show ers, and bachelor/bachelorette parties, can be customized to individual preferences and include add-on activities, whether fitness-focused or beauty-based.
