Lynn Hollis Owner/Aesthetics NurseThe Women of New Braunfels are Extraordinary!
As May comes it brings with it a promise of renewal and growth, we at NBTX City Lifestyle are excited to be celebrating the remarkable women who make New Braunfels.
Throughout history, women have played pivotal roles in shaping communities, driving progress, and fostering positive change. In New Braunfels, we are fortunate to have an abundance of inspiring women who have made significant contributions in various fields, from business and education to the arts and beyond.
In our May issue, we will shine a spotlight on these extraordinary individuals, sharing their stories of triumph, resilience, and achievement. From trailblazing entrepreneurs to dedicated community activists, we will showcase the diverse talents and accomplishments of women who call New Braunfels home.
We invite you to join us in celebrating the strength, creativity, and leadership of the women in our community. Their passion, dedication, and vision enrich our lives and inspire us all to reach greater heights.
I have been blessed to meet some very extraordinary women who value collaboration over competition and value uplifting those women around them. They listen, nurture, reflect and advise the friendships to help elevate those around them with them.
Not only that I had the most amazing role model of one of the strongest women I know, of course it is my mom. She modeled that with tenacity and drive you could push the needle further and then set new goals that keep moving you forward on your journey. She is the best mom and grandma a daughter could hope for. Now we must make her realize how impressive New Braunfels is so she and my stepdad will make the move!
I am especially excited to share through the pages of our City Scene that we celebrate NBTX City Lifestyles Ribbon Cutting with the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce. I was very fortunate to celebrate with two other esteemed businesses Big Chief Vacation Properties and Paddle TX and enjoy their ribbon cuttings as well. I want to give a sincere shout out to Clarisa DeSanto, Kim Chevalier and Kara Shea for helping create lasting memories!
Together, let us celebrate the indomitable spirit and boundless potential of the women of New Braunfels. The contributions of all these women shape our past, present, and future, and it is our privilege to share their stories with our readers.
Thank you for joining us in this celebration of women's achievements and empowerment.

CRISSY DEARMOND OF REVIVE IV THERAPY AND SHOT BAR’S JOURNEY
ARTICLE BY SAMANTHA BOWERSThere are times in our lives when we meet someone and from the first moment you feel like you have known them for a lifetime. There is one person in our local business community, Crissy DeArmond, that embodies that spirit and stands out as a shining example in our community. A former nurse turned entrepreneur, Crissy owner of Revive IV Therapy and Shot Bar, shares her inspiring journey of establishing and growing her business while making many contributions to the community she holds dear.
Her drive to become an entrepreneur stemmed from her desire to help others heal and feel better but in a much more personal way. “As a nurse, I’ve always felt the need to make a positive impact. This business has allowed me to do just that, and so much more,” she explains. It wasn’t always easy, the initial stages of her business were challenging, in fact, “Getting started was the toughest part. Being new to entrepreneurship had a steep learning curve.” Crissy recalls.
Despite these obstacles, Crissy’s business began to thrive. She found that genuine connection and word of mouth referrals were instrumental in expanding her clientele and community reach. “Building trust and relationships has been key. Slowly but steadily, my business grew,” she notes. This genuine connection is what I felt the moment I walked through her doors at the gym she currently resides in.
She started her business by offering mobile IV treatments but through her long-standing friendship with Aldo of Aldo’s Gym, Crissy was able to have a place for her clients to come. Eventually, she hopes to expand and offer a larger space in order to help more clients in the future.
“I hope to inspire young women to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. With determination and support, anything is possible.”
Crissy's commitment extends beyond personal success; she is deeply invested in giving back to her community. Through her business, she sponsors school events, supports her church, and provides essential services, such as IV therapy, to those in need.
One such time is when she offered to make the Opas and Oma’s feel their best Crissy offered a special Wurst IV. She plans to offer again being that the Wurstfest holds many special memories for her, including having her baby boy, born during Wurstfest 2009. She says, “Prost to Thomas!”
At the core of Crissy's business philosophy are values of authenticity, compassion, and dedication. "Being genuine and working wholeheartedly are non-negotiables for me. I believe in making a positive difference, no matter how small," she emphasizes.
She knows at the end of the day she has to make the best decisions for her clients to make them feel at their peak. She once had a client that after initial examination she had to refer them to the hospital. With her quick and decisive insight, the client was found to have
- Crissy DeArmondpneumonia and her efforts could’ve likely hurt her patient and client. It makes a huge difference knowing what signs to look for in your clients and Crissy was able to help client feel their best in the end.
Balancing her business, philanthropy, and family commitments, Crissy credits her supportive husband whom is her rock and best friend, she says he truly makes it so much easier to handle. As well as her evolving perspective on life. "Life is precious. Finding peace and contentment amidst the chaos is paramount," she reflects.
As a female business owner, Crissy aims to empower other women entrepreneurs, dispelling notions of insurmountable obstacles. "I hope to inspire young women to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. With determination and support, anything is possible," she affirms.
Looking ahead, Crissy remains focused on service and faith. "Each day brings new opportunities. I aspire to make a positive impact on even more lives in the coming years," she concludes, embodying the spirit of a compassionate and impactful businesswoman in our community.
The Villa’s Evolution
As women, we take immense pride in contributing unique perspectives and innovative ideas.
Driving past The Villa enroute to Gruene, one might overlook its transformation, but stepping inside reveals a remarkable metamorphosis, cementing its status as a premier bar and live music venue in the local community. Originally conceived as a winery, The Villa underwent an identity crisis, wavering between winery, event space, and occasional bar. However, in mid-2023, a shift in female ownership and management propelled The Villa toward pioneering the cocktail and live music scene. Casey Frank, the new owner, and Jessica Herod, General Manager, have been instrumental in reshaping The Villa into a vibrant neighborhood bar and music hotspot.
They explain, “The decision to transform The Villa into a neighborhood favorite stemmed from a strong desire to redefine our identity within the community.” Through extensive team meetings, their aim was to purposefully reimagine every aspect of the establishment purposefully and intentionally, envisioning it as a lively hub of entertainment and community engagement. The result has been overwhelmingly positive community feedback.
As The Villa evolves into a community-centric venue, patrons can expect an enriched experience extending beyond cocktails. Weekly events like Singo Bingo and Thinks & Drinks Trivia, as well as Hosted Open Mic Nights with local artist Benjamin Cole, offer platforms for songbirds and storytellers to shine. Live music, featured Wednesday through Sunday, showcases the talents of both local artists and traveling troubadours.
While maintaining their commitment to crafting delectable libations, they continuously refine their
menu to suit patrons’ tastes. Bar Manager Cassie Kuhn’s expertise and passion for specialty cocktails drive exploration of local breweries and distilleries, enriching The Villa’s offerings.
In addition to seasonal menus, patrons are invited to embark on a whiskey adventure with “It’s Time for Whiskey” punch cards, allowing them to savor over 60 whiskeys and bourbons while earning rewards and recognition with a personalized plaque on the Around the World Wall of Fame.
Patrons can eagerly look forward to the grand reveal of an exquisite covered outdoor bar, spotlighting exclusive Texas spirits and craft drafts. Additionally, the highly anticipated introduction of a Food Trailer is slated for early this summer, serving up exciting secret menu items expertly paired with Villa libations. Including something for everyone, the immaculately equipped game room and outdoor play area, features pool tables, darts, foosball, shuffleboard, cornhole, and washers. The Villa’s provision of 9 TVs, both indoors and outdoors, broadcast all the anticipated games and events for the sports enthusiasts.
Their vision encompasses creating a welcoming space for family outings, with a pet-friendly patio and an ideal spot for Happy Hour gatherings, embodying the motto: Cool Tunes | Cold Drinks | Good Company.
Reflecting on the rebranding journey, Casey notes its dynamic nature, marked by challenges and lessons. Navigating community expectations and orchestrating a smooth transition required meticulous planning. One notable lesson was the importance of adaptation while staying true to their

roots, leading to the decision to streamline the name from The Villa at Gruene to The Villa. This decision allows them to preserve their identity while embracing a continuous evolution to cater to the evolving desires of the local community members.
Casey emphasizes, “As women, we take immense pride in contributing unique perspectives and innovative ideas, fostering creativity and ingenuity.” They envision The Villa as a vital thread in the
neighborhood’s fabric, fostering enduring connections and making a positive impact through events, music, and community engagement.
With a commitment to adaptability and creativity, The Villa is poised to continue crafting exceptional experiences for its patrons. Casey concludes, “While there have been challenges, we are equipped with the finest lemons, and rest assured, we’re crafting some truly delicious, spiked lemonade!”
UNLEASHING EMPOWERMENT THROUGH YOUR STORY
Transformative Journeys Through Storytelling with Lightbeamers - Inspiring Narratives, Empowered Voices, Lasting Impact.
In a world where empowerment often seems elusive, storytelling emerges as a beacon of hope, a potent tool that fosters connection, healing, and transformation. At Lightbeamers, April Petrius stands at the helm of a mission dedicated to unleashing the formidable power of personal narratives, empowering women to embrace their stories and realize their full potential. April, alongside Evelina Solis and Penny Pereboom, shares compelling insights into how storytelling has not only empowered them but also countless others.
Founded on the premise of illuminating the transformative power of storytelling, Lightbeamers serves as a guiding light for women, helping them recognize the profound significance of their own narratives. April passionately highlights the pervasive belief among women that their stories are either unworthy or too burdensome to share. However, Lightbeamers aims to dismantle these barriers, providing a safe haven where women can reclaim agency over their stories and wield them as instruments of empowerment and inspiration.
April's journey from seasoned video journalist to the visionary leader of Lightbeamers epitomizes the transformative potential of storytelling. Driven by a yearning for a deeper purpose, April envisioned a platform where women could authentically share their stories.
Through introspection and divine inspiration, Lightbeamers emerged as a space dedicated to guiding women on their journey of courageous and authentic storytelling.
Central to Lightbeamers' approach is the provision of opportunities for women to develop their skills and confidence. Through a vibrant online community, women receive invaluable guidance, support, and resources to refine their storytelling abilities.
From weekly story prompts to free trainings and workshops, Lightbeamers equips women with the necessary tools to amplify their voices and share their stories with the world.
The tangible impact of Lightbeamers' initiatives is evident in the resounding success stories of its participants. Women who once hesitated to share their stories now embark on book tours, deliver TEDx talks, and launch podcasts, catalyzing profound personal and professional growth. By reframing their narratives from tales of adversity to stories of resilience and transformation, women harness the power of storytelling to effect positive change in their communities.
Looking forward, Lightbeamers remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering women through storytelling. With a keen focus on expanding its reach, fostering leadership, and effecting tangible change, Lightbeamers aspires to illuminate the path for countless women to embrace their stories, ignite their light, and inspire others to follow suit.
Evelina Solis, a multifaceted individual with a background spanning broadcast journalism, education, and motivational speaking, found herself drawn to the empowering community of Lightbeamers. Her journey from traditional media to the vibrant online platform of Lightbeamers exemplifies the transformative power of storytelling and community.
Introduced to Lightbeamers through a shared passion for health and wellness, Evelina connected with April, the driving force behind Lightbeamers. Their shared background in broadcast journalism laid the foundation for a collaborative partnership grounded in a shared vision of empowerment.
Joining Lightbeamers, Evelina embarked on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Through weekly storytelling sessions and live events, she honed her narrative skills, gained confidence, and rekindled her passion for public speaking and coaching. The community became a source of solace and inspiration, bolstering her resilience and reaffirming her sense of purpose.
Integral to Evelina's journey was her participation in the book series, culminating in the publication of "Shine Your Light." Overcoming initial hesitations, Evelina embraced the opportunity to share her story, recognizing its potential to inspire others facing similar challenges. With mentorship, she navigated the writing process, ultimately cementing her legacy as a published author.
Evelina's impact extends beyond the pages of her book. Through speaking engagements and community events, her message of hope and resilience reaches a broader audience, touching hearts and igniting change. Looking ahead, Evelina envisions continued collaboration with Lightbeamers, empowering others through storytelling.
Similarly, Penny Pereboom embarked on a deeply personal journey within the Lightbeamers community. With a background in real estate and training, Penny's introduction to Lightbeamers came through a coaching certification program, marking the genesis of a transformative journey.
Attracted by Lightbeamers' promise of growth and visibility, Penny sought support to enhance her video skills and online visibility. Through April's guidance and the Lightbeamers community, Penny aimed to refine her skills and carve a niche in the digital landscape.
Within Lightbeamers, Penny experienced pivotal moments that reshaped her life and career trajectory. Writing her book, "Elevate Your Voice," served as a journey of self-discovery, inspiring her to explore writing as a means of promoting her coaching business. Additionally, a meeting with April provided the clarity and encouragement Penny needed to launch her coaching business, marking a significant turning point in her journey.
Penny's experience as a published author through Lightbeamers opened doors to self-discovery and personal validation, resonating deeply with readers. Looking ahead, Penny envisions continued involvement with Lightbeamers, driven by a desire to inspire and give back to the community that supported her. Grateful for Lightbeamers' empowerment, Penny remains committed to realizing her true potential and making a difference in the world.
The stories of April, Evelina, and Penny serve as powerful testaments to the transformative impact of storytelling within the Lightbeamers community and beyond. Together, their experiences illuminate the boundless potential for individuals to find empowerment, resilience, and purpose through the power of storytelling. As Lightbeamers continues to champion women's voices and journeys, April, Evelina, Penny, and countless others stand as beacons of inspiration, guiding others to embrace their stories and shine their light in the world.

PUTTING YOUR Best FOOT FORWARD
ARTICLE BY CHRISTY MEAUX PHOTOGRAPHY BY CIERRA LEAVITTREVITALIZE VISUALS WITH KERSTIN OLETA, FOUNDER & CEO – BUSINESS LEADERSHIPAs a trained professional Opera Singer, Voice Coach, and Body Language Strategist, Kerstin Oleta commands every room she enters. In her 30+ years crafting and coaching the art of audience connection, every movement and gesture is executed with intent and strategy. Those who are fortunate to be in a room with her recognize her ability to not only capture an audience, and create a genuine and authentic connection, as well.
There are few things worse than being in the audience when the presenter makes you wish you were anywhere else. The topic may be exciting, and the speaker knowledgeable, but the message falls flat. Often the reason why – they forgot about the performance! Kerstin says, “As a performer, I understand the importance and impact of creating a powerful experience that lasts.” When the audience is engaged, entertained, and excited, the value increases, the experience is unforgettable, and the information is retained. When a woman is confident, dynamic, and energetic the whole experience is elevated.
“The power is in the posture,” says Kerstin. “Women who stand to their full and natural height will show more confidence and exude authority in their expertise at a higher level.”
She’s made it her mission to teach others how to command a room and own the space they are in.
When men are commanding a stage, wanting to impress others, they are often seen “peacocking” and strolling with a puffed chest, not waiting for an invitation. Men know they belong where they are. Here’s a secret - women do, too. Ms. Oleta shares how using correct posture, correct facial expressions, uncrossed arms, and simply taking up space, women speakers can have a greater opportunity to connect with their audience.
Body language is a part of everything we do. It is not reserved for the stage necessarily. Think about your posture in a job interview. How are you sitting when you’re speaking on the telephone; in a meeting with a client; or even at a party? Are you the wallflower? Or are you the one commanding the attention? Kerstin offers, “…my experience on stage as an opera singer taught me how to engage my muscle memory – how I’m standing and what I’m exuding out to the audience – to create my presence and exude the leadership needed to build the BLEI. I don’t have to think about it anymore because it is naturally part of who I am.”
In any presentation, Kerstin is always observing her audience - the ones who are leaning in, and taking notes, or even laughing at the over-exaggerated expressions demonstrated for effect. She also recognizes those who pretend not to. Ms. Oleta has been on stage and in rooms with executives from Fortune 500 companies such as Google and eBay Global, virtual meetings with international clients, and through her experiences, has found similarities among women from different countries and demographics that have led to the pillars of Body Language Success. These pillars are: Confidence, Competence, Trust, and Approachability.
Kerstin’s desire on activating these four pillars is, “When you walk into a room exuding all four of these things, people are naturally drawn to you as a leader and want to know what you have to say.”
When Shania Twain kicks off with “Let’s Go, Girls”, it becomes an anthem of empowerment. There is a standard that is set in that moment, and the mindset as the song plays on is powerful! Kerstin Oleta is a magnet for power! Her goal for every woman she meets is to help them level up their presence, own their confidence, and put their best foot forward. Every woman should feel incredible in every moment. Kerstin says, “As a performer, I understand the importance and impact of creating a powerful experience that lasts.” If New Braunfels has anything to do with it, Kerstin Oleta is creating a movement for every single one of us.
The Art of Collecting
As consumers, we are constantly being enticed to buy. Whether it’s the jewelry we can’t live without, concert tickets to a show we don’t want to miss, or that favorite pair of shoes calling our name, we buy what we love, and art should be no different.
If you are new to acquiring original art, you may find it daunting, but it shouldn’t be. It is a special purchase that forces you to dig deep and discover a bit more about yourself. At first, many people shy away from buying original art because of the commitment. It’s a big decision after all, and how do you really know when it’s the “perfect” piece? Because art is subjective, part of the process is learning what style of art is the best fit for you. Is it colorful and energetic abstracts, or soothing landscapes that catch your eye? Maybe you are drawn to local photography, or even figurative works. There is no wrong answer, and maybe it’s a mix of several styles that creates your unique collection. The best way to find out your “art personality” is to get out and visit your local galleries. Consider making it a tradition to visit galleries while traveling or buy a piece of art as a gift on special occasions. In the gallery setting you can explore various art styles, mediums, and even learn more about the talented artists who create those works.
With the purchase of original art comes other considerations. Often, we have clients who need direction figuring out what size of art they need and its placement in the design of their space. If you find a piece of art you love, you will always find a spot for it. Ask the gallery if they offer in-home art consultation services to see the piece in your setting. Great custom framing is key, and well-designed framing is the jewelry to a great piece of art. Quality archival framing protects your art from UV rays that can damage a piece over time. Original art should last generations.
I’m often asked, should I buy art for investment? There is a place for investment art, but I don’t believe in buying art with the pretense that it will go up in value. There is no guarantee it will and to me, good investment art brings different riches to your life. Art that brings you joy, adds personality to your space, and makes your home original is an investment in you. The best art investment should be the feeling you experience gazing into an oil painting that perfectly captures a warm sunset over the prairie, or the texture created by a palette knife on the abstract that seems to pop off the canvas. That is what makes investing in original art priceless.
Art that brings you joy, adds personality to your space, and makes your home original is an investment in you.
Whether you’re buying or selling in real estate, it’s one of the most significant financial choices you’ll make.
Everyone is unique and so are their home dreams. That’s why I tailor my approach to you, always ensuring your investment is protected and optimal. My goal is to build genuine connections and life-long relationships with everyone I work with. It’s been such an honor to guide so many of you on your home journeys, and I deeply value the trust you have placed in me.
