Home—such a small word, yet it carries the weight of our stories, the echo of our laughter, and the warmth of our shared moments. It is the anchor that grounds us in the rhythm of life, our sanctuary where we find solace and inspiration. As Wendy Wunder beautifully expressed, home is the place that feels good to leave, yet even better to come back to.

In this issue, we set out to unravel the essence of home, celebrating the myriad of ways it manifests in our lives. While the details may vary, the universal truth remains—we all find meaning and value in the spaces we call home.

I place great value on my own home as a place my kids can feel safe and inspired.  Just as my mom created that for me and still today every time I visit her, I immediately feel safe and comfortable. I also find great joy in using my home as an outlet for my creative juices to flow.

This issue finds the timeless beauty and essence of a home that even makes new feel like a treasured classic. We explore the outdoors to make the most of one of my happy places and that is to be relaxing in the backyard. I hope you find inspiration to make your space better. Also join us as we thank Prince Carl of Solms for planting his roots here and calling New Braunfels home.

Picture this, it is another hot Texas summer day and you have just arrived home after cruising around town picking up the necessities for the week ahead. You peel yourself off your leather seats to hop out of your car, already dripping in sweat.  You move quickly to find solace in the comfort of your cool home. Only as you enter your home you are immediately distraught by what you are experiencing, it's blazing hot and there is no refuge!  Your mind is racing and the only thought that is certain is you should've made sure the air condition was in tip top shape before the onslaught of summer.

There are several very effective ways to prepare for the summer, not only that, be ready for it.  Here are some helpful tactics to move you into the next season.

Maintenance is the cornerstone of a well-functioning air conditioning (A/C) system. Consider this: an A/C system runs approximately 3,000 hours a year, equivalent to driving 180,000 miles at 60 mph. To maintain its efficiency, it's crucial to schedule regular maintenance, just as you would for your vehicle. Neglecting this can lead to a loss of efficiency, capacity, and premature failure.

Air filters play a pivotal role in A/C performance. Regular inspection and replacement are necessary to prevent dirt buildup, which can lead to vibrations that, over time, loosen system components. With a complex system comprising motors, relays, thermostats, coils, and more, a well-maintained air filter is essential for optimal functioning.

In the age of smart thermostats, programming your system for efficiency is easier than ever. Adjust settings based on your schedule and

preferences, and don't overuse the A/C when you're away. The initial investment in a smart thermostat pays off, with an average 32% reduction in utility consumption within the first year.  Also, adjusting HVAC settings before going on vacation is a simple yet effective way to save energy.

Over the last many decades, the City of New Braunfels has transformed, welcoming a continuous influx of new residents and evolving into a beloved family vacation destination. Throughout the change, one aspect of our once small town remains unchanged—the rich history that is so well preserved and honored by the locals.

New Braunfels Founders Day, observed every March, commemorates a significant moment in 1845 when Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels officially settled along the banks of the Comal River with the first group of immigrant settlers, marking the birth of the city. This meaningful day honors the vision, determination, and pioneering spirit of the city's founders, reinforcing the sense of pride and connection among residents.

Each year new Braunfels becomes home to many new residents. We welcome these newcomers to explore all that our city has to offer, and join us in honoring the history of our home, New Braunfels.
