Sharing the joy of the Humane Society Naples
This issue holds a special place in my heart. Children are more than just the future—they are the heartbeat of our communities today. Their laughter, their curiosity, and their potential shape the world in ways we can’t fully measure.
As parents and caregivers, we put so much effort into nurturing their growth, teaching them, and investing in their futures. But let’s not forget that children also shape us—they bring joy, laughter, and meaning to our everyday lives.
But we also cannot overlook the powerful role pets play in our families. They offer unconditional love and teach us valuable lessons in empathy, responsibility, and companionship. The bond between kids and their pets can be transformative, fostering deep emotional connections that last a lifetime.
This issue is dedicated to celebrating the kids and pets who fill our homes with joy and love. We asked the Humane Society Naples to share kittens and puppies currently up for adoption. Our Cover partners melted as they held the furry friends for the first time. This will be a tradition moving forward, and if you and your family are considering a new pet, I encourage you to visit the Humane Society Naples or Collier County DAS.

A FAMILY’S JOURNEY TO PARADISE
T hree years ago, our family traded the gray, chilly days of New Jersey for the sunshine and palm trees of Naples, Florida—along with our two lovable dogs, Gracie and Buddy. What started as a big move quickly turned into something more: a new chapter filled with community, connection, and a whole lot of dog walks. Gracie and Buddy, with their sweet temperaments and giant Great Dane presence, became instant celebrities around the neighborhood and local parks.
Since settling in, we’ve fully embraced the Naples lifestyle—and I’ve been lucky enough to grow two businesses along the way. One is Swing Scribe, a golf journal I created to help players stay focused, track progress, and bring more intention to their game. It’s the best way to learn and love golf more deeply. We’re also proud partners of the LPGA & Girls Golf Foundation.
The other is Paradise Payments, where we take the stress out of merchant services. Whether it’s helping a small shop set up card payments or streamlining billing for a busy business, we make it easy and reliable. We offer cost savings, free hardware, rebates, compliance, and most importantly, a local person to call when help is needed.

Trevor is a 13 year old Italian Greyhound that we rescued from Miami, last year. His situation was heartbreaking, he was severely neglected and being surrendered due to his owner losing their home. His health and teeth were in poor condition. He could not eat and he was in a lot of pain. He had never been on a walk. The very moment we met, he was so gentle and very sweet, almost like he knew we were there to help him.
HOW HAS HAVING A PET CHANGED YOUR DAILY LIFE OR OUTLOOK?
Honestly I’m just so happy to make every day great for Trevor. It’s been fun seeing him try new foods, explore new places, and relax in the sun. Trevor reminds me to enjoy every moment. I’ve really enjoyed the process of earning his trust and love, which is a slow and steady process and it makes me love him even more.
IF YOUR PET HAD A JOB, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
That’s such a great question! Trevor would probably be a Grandpa, owner of an Italian restaurant, keeping the place secure and warmly greeting everyone with a don’t mess with me confidence.

As a veterinarian, it’s pretty clear that animals are at the core of everything I do professionally. But it goes far beyond just a career — animals are truly my passion and my purpose. Every day, I have the privilege of advocating for their health, comfort, and well-being, and that connection is what drives me. Whether I’m treating a medical issue, supporting an owner through a tough decision, or helping a rescue pet find a second chance, animals are the heart of my work and the reason I do what I do.
WHY IS ADOPTION OR RESCUE IMPORTANT TO YOU? WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE CONSIDERING ADOPTING RATHER THAN SHOPPING?
Adoption and rescue are deeply important to me because I’ve seen firsthand how many incredible animals are out there just waiting for a second chance. These pets end up in shelters through no fault of their own — often because of human circumstances, not because they did anything wrong. They have so much love to give, and they deserve safe, happy lives.
To someone considering adoption, I would say: you’re not just saving a life — you’re gaining a loyal, grateful, and loving companion. There’s something incredibly special about the bond that forms when
you give an animal a fresh start. It’s life-changing, not just for them, but for you too. Shopping supports a system that often prioritizes profit over animal welfare. Adoption supports compassion, second chances, and the belief that every life matters.
ARE THERE ANY LOCAL RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS OR SHELTERS YOU SUPPORT OR RECOMMEND?
I actually started my own 501(c)(3) rescue called Wags to Wishes. Our mission is to help pet owners keep their pets, no matter their circumstances, to prevent animals from ending up in shelters in the first place. We support and collaborate with Collier County Domestic Animal Services. I also work on the mobile veterinary clinic through the Patty Baker Humane Society, where we provide low-cost care to the community members who need it most. In addition, I volunteer with SNIP Collier, helping with spay and neuter surgeries to reduce overpopulation and support responsible pet ownership.
Each of these organizations plays an important role in creating a more compassionate approach to animal welfare in our community.

I am the Division Director for Collier County Domestic Animal Services, the county’s open-admission animal shelter. In this role, I oversee shelter operations, adoptions, veterinary care, and community outreach programs. Each year, we take in approximately 6,000 animals and currently maintain a live release rate of over 95%, reflecting our deep commitment to lifesaving. Our team works daily to protect animals, support responsible pet ownership, and provide vital services such as reunification, public education, and programs like TNR and foster care. We serve as a safety net for lost, abandoned, and neglected animals, and we continuously strive to improve outcomes through collaboration, transparency, and compassion.
HOW DO ANIMALS OR PETS INTERSECT WITH WHAT YOU DO PROFESSIONALLY?
Animals are at the core of everything I do professionally. As the Division Director for Collier County Domestic Animal Services, my work revolves around protecting, caring for, and advocating for animals in our community. Whether it’s developing policies to improve shelter care, supporting field officers in cruelty investigations, expanding access to veterinary services, or creating programs to keep pets and families together, every decision I make impacts the lives of animals.
I also work to bridge the gap between animals and people-helping pets find homes, educating the public about responsible ownership, and building partnerships that strengthen our community’s ability to care for its animals.
The human-animal bond drives both the challenges and the rewards of this work, and it’s what makes this profession so meaningful.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR PET! WHAT’S THEIR NAME AND STORY?
My sweetest girl, Kesha, passed away a year ago, so I don’t currently have any pets of my own. That said, I regularly open my home to animals in need of foster care, particularly those with medical or behavioral challenges. I also provide hospice care for animals at the end of their lives. Rather than spending their final days in a shelter, they stay with me so they can experience comfort, dignity, and unconditional love before crossing the rainbow bridge. It’s incredibly rewarding to help the most vulnerable animals and ensure they feel safe and cherished, no matter how much time they have left.

Unfortunately we have so many homeless dogs here in Naples that are in desperate need of new families. Humans need houses and pets need homes. I want to be a real estate agent who can help do both!

Yes, I have 2 dogs. I believe that pets exist to teach the rest of us unconditional love.
One year, my New Year’s resolution was to be more like my dog, Phoebe.
1. Phoebe loves everyone.
2. Phoebe assumes everyone loves her.
3. Phoebe never needs to forgive, because she never holds a grudge. If I stay away too long, or step on her tail, she still loves me. She only has one speed.. acceptance and love.

Seven years ago, Tina Hallett, the owner of Urban Meditation, rescued her 'Angel dog' inside a McDonald's about to be sold in a dog fighting transaction. Tina could not bear the thought of this tiny pup ever being trained for fighting. Tina then gave up all the cash she had on her, plus enough for a cheeseburger (Kiki's first meal) and brought her to a safe home.
Kiki wasn’t just rescued that day—she became the rescuer too. For Tina, Kiki brought more than just companionship. She offered comfort during difficult times, loyalty in every moment, and a deep, soul-healing love that only a dog can give. “She made me feel awoken,” Tina says. “She made me feel like I was the most important thing in her life."
Through the years, Kiki has been a source of strength, laughter, and unconditional love. Her presence turned an ordinary home into a place of joy and warmth. Whether it was long walks, quiet cuddles, or just her steady heartbeat nearby, Kiki became Tina’s anchor.

From the moment we arrived at the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla, we knew we were in for something special. Perched above turquoise waters and wrapped in island breeze, the resort blends laid-back Caribbean charm with the polish and service you expect from a Four Seasons. Our group — a mix of first-time visitors and seasoned fans — spent four days soaking up ocean views, incredible meals, and some much-needed relaxation in one of the most beautiful settings we’ve ever experienced.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS THAT LAST
When we arrived, we were immediately struck by the hotel’s breathtaking architecture and panoramic ocean views. The turquoise water glistened under the Anguillian sun, and the staff welcomed us with the kind of warmth and grace that instantly put us at ease (the delicious rum punch helped, too!).
At Four Seasons Anguilla, hospitality isn’t a service — it’s a philosophy. You’re treated like royalty, and that’s not hyperbole.
OCEANFRONT LIVING
We stayed in ocean-view suites that felt more like coastal sanctuaries than hotel rooms. The interiors were sleek and modern, with neutral tones and natural textures that echoed the beachy surroundings. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors invited the outside in, and morning coffee on our private balcony with the sea breeze was a daily ritual we won't soon forget.
CULINARY HIGHLIGHTS
The food and drink experiences were a standout throughout our stay. Breakfast at Salt became a ritual — fresh fruit, just-baked pastries, and perfectly brewed coffee with ocean views. Evenings often began or ended at the Sunset Lounge, where we enjoyed live music, elevated cocktails, and inventive small plates under the stars. Bamboo Bar and Grill kept us fueled throughout the day with beachside bites and refreshing drinks, perfect for relaxing afternoons by the water.
WELLNESS & RELAXATION
While some ventured to the spa for indulgent massages, others simply let the resort itself do the healing. With its calming energy and uncrowded spaces, we never felt rushed or overstimulated. This was a retreat in every sense — no itineraries, no pressure, just pure relaxation.
A CULTURAL MOMENT
One unexpected highlight? We happened to be there for Anguilla Day, the island’s national celebration. From the pool, we watched the colorful sailing race unfold — a local tradition that felt deeply special to witness. It was the perfect blend of luxury travel and cultural connection.

Travelers can fly directly into Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA), or opt for a scenic transfer from Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) in Sint Maarten, followed by a quick ferry or flight. Either way, the journey is well worth the reward.
