THE ART OF STORYTELLING (CONTINUED)

“We start with a consultation, at least a half-hour and sometimes longer, to go deeper into a story to generate ideas and hone the client’s inspiration. It can be very profound,” says Steven. “The most rewarding part of my job is helping change someone’s life in a positive direction.” On average (and he hates to use that word), he spends 20 hours to ink a tattoo, following 4-5 hours of design time and another hour or so to set up and tear down after an appointment. “I have heard that people look at their tattoo artist like a counselor, spilling out secrets. There’s a lot of trust since I’m putting something permanent on them,” he says. “There are so many elements, variables, it can be a draining process. But, always rewarding.” His clients range in age from young and aspiring to professional athletes and senior citizens. “Older skin is rougher and thinner, with less elasticity. I understand the intricacies of working on older skin and that less is more. It’s never too late,” he says.

At Catharsis, only one client is in the studio at a time, with appointments and communication only through email: CatharsisTattoos@gmail.com or through the booking link at CatharsisTattoo.com .

Naples own and NFL wide receiver, Michael Walker designed his family crest with Steven.

Josh AI from Innovative Lifestyles makes life easier...and more fun

The Crestron® UC-MM30-R tabletop conference device that pairs an enterprise-grade speakerphone with the powerful control of the Crestron Home™ operating system to provide one convenient home office companion. “We are seeing more people working from home and now they can control lighting, heating and cooling, audio, tv, blinds, the pool and security from a desktop system,” says Greg. “We’ve also worked with homeowners who already have home automation who want to layer on more platforms.” Customers value the ease of use along with the opportunity to control what’s happening inside their four walls. When exploring home automation solutions and opportunities with a homeowner, project managers will oversee design, handle technology choices, design considerations and the latest engineering available to meet the client’s budget and needs. The relationship continues through training. “One customer was very hesitant about his ability to use the automation technology in his newly built home and after thorough training, he called us the next day to say, ‘You’re right, I got it!’” Next up, Greg is excited about the turns in voice control technology. Like Siri or Google Now, the Josh programming language is built to support natural language voice commands. The folks at Josh explain this includes greetings, questions, instructions, and more. Further, Josh is built to control and connect any “smart” device, from any device. For example, with Josh you can turn on your speakers from your watch, change the temperature from your phone, and shut off the lights from your desktop. “My six-year-old daughter can ask Josh to turn on the lights in the family room, turn off the ceiling fan, and it’s done. The advances in this technology is astounding and we’re very excited about sharing this with our clients.” “We installed a 12-seat home theater with a 130” screen and

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE THE PRO GOLFER’S FITNESS JOURNEY

SCOTT

STALLINGS’

WORKOUT ARTICLE CITY LIFESTYLE

SCOTT STALLINGS DISCOVERED HIS INTEREST IN GOLF AT THE YOUNG AGE OF 3. But it was the “aha moment” for his love of the game that came in 1997 when Tiger Woods won the Masters and would forever change the entire landscape of the industry, as well as what Stallings would aspire to achieve in his future professional endeavors. Little did he know at the time, however, not just how successful he would become, but also how an unforeseen health compromise would also rock his world, and his cross training, for the better. He was a seven-time tournament winner and was an All-American while attending Tennessee Tech, and he has won on the PGA Tour three times as a professional golfer. Flash forward to the year 2016: It became a life-changing year he never would have anticipated; one filled with strife as he learned he had been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and acute adrenal fatigue. It was a result of some unhealthy nutritional habits, both of which affected his ability to continue effectively as a professional athlete. With the guidance of doctors, surgeons, and his good friend Rich Froning, a four-time Crossfit champion, Scott developed a workout to trim 60 pounds, boasting 10% body fat, revising his daily eating habits, and sleeping healthily through the night. Had Scott not gone to the doctor because of that innate fear, he never would have known the diagnosis of sleep apnea that needed to be addressed. Luckily for Scott, he didn’t have an overwhelming, crazy life overhaul. Instead, he was able to find one small thing, delivering simple systematic changes in his workout that led to his improvement in fitness and quality of life. “You only get one body,” he says. “Golf is a grind, but don’t let physicality get in the way of your game,” Scott says.

SCOTT’S TOP EXERCISES

KETTLEBELL POWER SNATCH: Uses ground force to leverage the kettlebell upward, then the shoulder, arm and back support the weight as it gets pushed overhead. Also a great cardio exercise and trains the body for a good golf swing.

KETTLEBELL HALO: Start by holding the kettlebell upside down at chest height, then lift the weight to head height and rotate it around the head like a halo in both directions. This exercise focuses on shoulder mobility—which is important for a good golf swing—and warms up the muscles and soft tissue around the shoulder girdle.

CLEAN TO LUNGE: First, the kettlebell is lifted from the ground to shoulder height. Then, the fowardlunge loads weight into the legs one at a time, which happens from the backswing to the downswing. The exercise increases strength in calves and forearms, which is essential for a powerful swing.

LANDMINES: LANDMINE RAINBOW: Tracing the shape of a rainbow, take the barbell down alongside each hip in a rotational movement and then back to an overhead position. Strengthens legs, shoulders and arms; improves coordination for ground-up downswing. LANDMINE ROTATIONAL CLEAN AND PRESS: Facing the landmine, hold the bar in your right hand, then pivot your toes 90 degrees to the left, dropping into a deep lunge while still holding the bar with your straight arm. Press into your front foot and stand up as you press and lift the barbell to chest height, all in one quick motion. From the waist down, this move mimics the look of a golfer finishing a swing. LANDMINE THRUSTER: Thrust the barbell upward from a squat position. Builds lower-body muscles, which are key for the start of the ground swing and to get longer off the tee. 34
