Change in life is inevitable! Without change we are not growing as individuals or bettering ourselves. While so many of us are hesitant to look back at the previous year, I view it as a new found hope and an opportunity to start anew. A new year means it's a time for new beginnings, new stories, and new dreams! With every year that passes, life seems to gain momentum and speed. My little babes are growing before my eyes. My days seem to be quite short these days. And even though I hate to admit it, there are many moments that pass me by because my mind is not as present as I now wish it were. This year my New Year's resolution is to acquire the luxury of time. More time making new memories with my husband. More time being silly with my girls. More time devoted to thoughts in my mind that will matter in 20+ years. Happiness is quite simple if we allow it to be. Join me this year in considering what differences you can make in your life to better yourself in years to come! Happy New Year! And blessings to you & yours, K AT S E AT O N G I A R R ATA N O , P U B L I S H E R @ M U S I C C I T YC I T Y L I F E S T Y L E

Be Intentional. BE FUNCTIONAL LEARN HOW KRISTY EDWARD’S JOURNEY LED HER TO HELPING OTHERS

ARTICLE BY MORGAN RAUM PHOTOGRAPHY BY RILEY MAU

12

M UST SE E | HO ME SERVICE S

K

risty Edwards is the founder & owner of Neatly Balanced, a business that not only helps organize closets and homes but thoughtfully donates all things that are no longer needed. Always having a passion for helping those within her community, Kristy would always donate clothes to different organizations from her nanny job. She decided to dig deeper into the Nashville community and see what other shelters were in need. “I was completely floored by the need and by how many organizations in Nashville that were helping the less fortunate. Growing up in a privileged environment, it was lost on me how much of a need there was here and how many people were living without basic essentials.”

While Neatly Balanced is thriving beyond Tennessee, the journey was never a simple one. Kristy credits the obstacles she faced in her past for leading her to the idea to start Neatly Balanced. Years ago, Kristy learned she had suffered a miscarriage - a secret she has only recently shared after carrying it on her own for 15 years. Between the stigma surrounding miscarriages and child loss that leads women to suffer in silence, to the consumerism ‘more is more’ mindset - Kristy created Neatly Balanced to show support to everyone and let it be known that you are seen. Kristy, her mother, and her sister went on a missions trip to Honduras, where they learned a church would be named in honor of her late father; who died only a few months before. Kristy got to witness, firsthand, the love and happiness the

people of Honduras shared, even though they had so little. “In my heart, Neatly Balanced was launched then… There are things laying around everyone’s homes that they have five of when there are children and adults out there who don’t even have anything.” Officially announcing Neatly Balanced only a couple of weeks before the 2020 pandemic, Kristy’s hard work prevailed because the demand for home organization had been larger than ever! Within two weeks, she had a three-week-long waitlist. Neatly Balanced offers a wide range of services - including membership packages and a porch pickup. While organization is their main focus, Neatly Balanced works with every budget and has services ranging from $200 to $4,000. Follow along @NeatlyBalanced www.Neatly-Balanced.com

Hannah Ellis On The Rise A LOOK INTO NASHVILLE SONGWRITER’S NEWEST ALBUM

Kentucky native turned Nashville songstress Hannah Ellis has taken Music City by storm. From touring with Carly Pearce to releasing her own debut album, That Girl, this January, Ellis is ready for the world to learn just who she is.

Hannah Ellis Hannah grew up performing with her family at weddings on the weekends and competing in singing competitions in her hometown of Campbellsville, Kentucky. Although music has always played a key role in her life, it wasn’t until she was 18 that she realized music was what she was called to do. Commuting to and from Nashville during her college years, Hannah dreamed of the day she would be able to pursue music full-time. After scoring a publishing deal, she was ultimately able to network with some of Nashville’s finest writers and eventually began her journey as a professional musician with a record deal of her own. “Getting to see what songwriters do is so specific to Nashville and such a special part of what we offer here. Everyone gets to see artists because they tour around and they’re the ones on the front of the magazines and on the posters, but the songwriters are the heartbeat and the soul of Nashville.” Hannah explained. Not only did Hannah find her voice when moving to Nashville, but she also found love with fellow singer/ songwriter, Nick Wayne. What began with writing songs together shifted to an undeniable chemistry that led them to be best friends and then, a couple. The songbirds wed in a stunning Tennessee wedding back in spring of 2021.

With Wayne contributing as a co-writer on several tracks on the new record, Hannah shares that scheduling time for the two of them to write helps find a healthy balance. The couple finds that inspiration will often strike within their daily lives. “I always said, I want to make an album that girls can get ready to; something they can hit play on and enjoy the entire thing. It’s put in the order it is in for a reason and is a journey to listen to.” Her latest single “Too Much and Not Enough” is one song that struck a chord with Hannah the moment she wrote it. One of the most personal songs on the collection, Hannah feels as though this track truly showcases her vulnerable side and allows her to be honest about things that aren’t always the easiest to share. “I can’t wait for people to have a full body of work that they can grab onto and really get to know me through. Singles are fun, and it’s fun to show people different sides of your personality, but an album is a full thought. I picked these songs to tell my story and I think people will really understand me a lot more after this record.” When she isn’t writing or performing, Ellis is likely to be found exploring the booming food and wine scene in Nashville. Barcelona Wine Bar remains a go-to for her in addition to community favorites, Nectar Cantina and Tennfold Brewery. A true foodie at heart, when Hannah is on the road, she loves to find the best food in each city she visits. She even referred to it as her ‘secret power’ to be able to find great food in each city she goes to! While touring is exciting, she also explained that it is important to find some downtime amidst the craziness to keep her brain and body in the same rhythm she would be in at home. “Whether it’s reading a book or going to the gym, [I need] something that grounds me before I start getting ready and get into artist mode.”

“Whether it’s reading a book or going to the gym, [I need] something that grounds me before I start getting ready and get into artist mode.”

After wrapping up Carly Pearce’s 29 Tour in 2022, Hannah has continued to offer Pearce support for select dates on the Country Music Made Me Do It Tour. Ellis is thrilled to be playing more shows and festivals in 2024 with her breakout new tracks. In honor of the new year, Hannah shared that her resolution is “to not hold anything back.” Be sure to follow Hannah on social media to stay up to date with shows and releases!

NO NEED TO TREAD LIGHTLY WHEN EXERCISING AT NASHVILLE’S STRIDE FITNESS

Na shv i l le’s G ot A New STRIDE ARTICLE BY MICHELE BOGLE

18

AT H LE T E LIF E | FI TNES S

Need a break from the chaos at home? Haven’t shed the pandemic pounds, or looking for a place to continue reaching personal fitness goals in a fun-fueled environment? Founded in 2017, STRIDE Fitness is the first treadmill-based interval training brand in America. This boutique-styled studio expanded in 2019 as a franchise and now has nearly 90 licensed locations across the country. Franklin residents John and Kim Walker recognized the value in this revolutionary concept, opening Tennessee’s first STRIDE Fitness conveniently located in Nashville’s West End last June. Because of the positive feedback, the couple has plans in motion to open two more boutiques, with locations to be announced. STRIDE Fitness offers treadmill-based group fitness classes, plus full body strength and core-specific workout sessions available for a rounded exercise regimen. Their top-of-the-line Woodway Treadmills, designed with pro athletes in mind, provide ultimate shock absorption for those who want to clock a lot of running or walking minutes. STRIDE Fitness utilizes in-studio MyZone heart rate monitors to track each client’s heart rate, calorie burn, and intensity, offering post-class data on the STRIDE Fitness App. Their 55-minute workouts are doable for any person no matter what their fitness level is. They offer 28 classes, seven days a week, with options for morning, daytime and evening. Check out ClassPass for their latest reviews and 5.0 rating. The studio welcomes walkers, joggers and runners, all ages and fitness levels. All participants workout side-by-side to create a unique exercise experience, with personalized heart rates and distances to maintain to begin and end a class together.

“It’s a super fun environment. We definitely think that we have something special here," notes general manager Jodi Suglio. Jodi has strategically chosen accredited instructors with differing personalities and backgrounds, who all specialize in something a little different from one another, allowing for a greater opportunity for member connectivity. Head Coach Christina Pichiarello is an example of the qualified care you’ll receive at STRIDE Fitness Nashville. She is trained as a physician’s assistant, was recently named Nashville’s Best Running Coach in the city’s edition of FIT Magazine, was also chosen as the 2023 Rock N Roll Nashville Marathon Ambassador, and in September, Pichiarello weighed in on her choice of footwear in a piece for SHAPE Magazine. Each coach creates their own playlist, playfully referring to themselves as accepting requests regularly. Themed classes evolve as the music becomes a customized vibe to each group’s mood. The instructors nurture an environment of inclusivity, helping to change the lives of those participating, with an emphasis on fun. They foster open dialogue about what members would like added or modified to enhance their experience, not only with music preferences, but for snack options available for purchase, or adjusted class hours. Jodi and her staff are creating a community, and sharing a genuine and unified objective, to help members reach their own personal goals, adding, “People come in for different reasons. We’re here for them to get exactly what they need.” 615.454.6956 StrideFitness.com/location/West-End

“but the truth is you can have more fun than ever and we’re here to usher in that era.”

Stephanie Styll and John Goody

Killjoy opened for business on April 1, but is no joke, except for its tongue-in-cheek name. Created on the dream of Stephanie Styll, Killjoy is a booze-free beverage shop located by The Loading Dock in Nashville. Not only do they offer alcohol-free beverages, but they also allow customers to taste the products and make sure they find an option they like. Alcohol-free wines, spirits and beers are still not widely known. Carrying 30 to 40 different varieties of beer and wine, they also offer functional beverages from ashwagandha mushrooms to CBD to Kava, as healthy alternatives. This shop also hosts weekly events, such as happy hours, wine tastings, book clubs and hikes. They also served stars backstage at the Country Music Awards. The name of the shop came from Stephanie's sense of humor. “It’s what people tend to think you are if you don’t drink,” she CONTINUED >

says, jokingly, “but the truth is you can have more fun than ever and we’re here to usher in that era.” This Dry January, Killjoy is hosting a series of events including tastings, markets, parties and panels with coaches to talk about different wellness concerns, such as gut health. In addition, they're celebrating the New Year with a “Booze-Free New Year’s Eve Bash.” This New Year, Killjoy has two resolutions: “to provide sophisticated beverages to Nashville and to create community and change the way Nashville drinks.”

Dry January is a New Year’s resolution to quit or limit the drinking of alcohol for the month of January. This can help keep you healthy by limiting hangovers, losing weight, getting better sleep, and improving mood and energy levels. Going alcohol free for 31 days also can reduce liver fat and blood sugar. 615.669.0704 KilljoyClub.com
