LIFESTYLE LETTER
Style Isn't One Size Fits All Style has always been one of those things that quietly shapes my world in the best possible way. It shows up in how I dress in the morning, how I arrange a room, the jewelry I reach for on a busy day, and even in the way I notice a beautiful building or a perfectly worn-in doorway. To me, style isn't just fashion, it's clothing, jewelry, interiors, architecture, color, texture, and personality, all woven together. It's storytelling, and it's personal. That's exactly what makes this month's Style Issue one of my favorites to put together, and if I'm being honest, it's also given me an excuse to spotlight some of my favorite people: bold, talented women who aren't afraid to take up space. Inside these pages, you'll find a beautiful mix of inspiration that celebrates how fun and expressive style can be. We're thrilled to feature a layflat design board created by designer Andrea Dussault, an immersive visual moment that feels like stepping directly into her creative process. You'll also find an inspiring roundup from textile and wallcovering designer Adriana Franco, offering a closer look at the patterns, palettes, and textures that are shaping interiors right now. It's one of those features that makes you want to repaint a room or rethink a space entirely. We're also shining a spotlight on BURU, founded by Morgan Hutchinson, whose bold, playful approach to fashion continues to redefine what modern, elevated style can look like. Morgan built her brand while raising three kids and has never been shy about the real challenges that came with it, and that same confidence and creativity shows up in every piece on the rack. And finally, we go behind the scenes with JuJu Taylor (juliannetaylorstyle.com), whose work is equal parts refined and unexpected. This one is personal for me, because JuJu's story isn't really about fashion, it's about a woman reclaiming her own life, one bold color at a time. Her perspective on style is thoughtful, layered, and full of personality, you won't want to miss it. My hope is that this issue feels like a little burst of inspiration in your hands. Something bright, fun, and a reminder that style doesn't have rules, it has energy. It evolves with us, reflects us, and most importantly, it should be enjoyed. So take up a little more space today. Wear the bold color, add the extra accessory, walk in like you mean it. Cheers!

LAYERED, LOCAL, Lovely Great design doesn't happen by accident, it starts long before the furniture arrives, with a carefully curated mix of fabrics, textures, and materials that set the tone for an entire room. For this issue, we asked the team at Andrea Dussault Design (formerly Striped Lemon Design) to pull back the curtain and show us exactly how that process comes together. The result is a beautifully curated flat lay, a behind the scenes look at the palettes, patterns, and textures
that inspire their designs. Soft greens, natural woven textures, and hand painted botanicals set a distinctly Lowcountry mood, while brass accents and tactile fabrics add depth and warmth. Every piece tells part of a larger story, one built from locally sourced materials that reflect the coastal, laid back elegance their clients love. It's proof that a beautiful room starts long before the first piece of furniture is placed, it starts with intention, texture, and a whole lot of inspiration.
See how the team at Andrea Dussault Design layers fabric and texture into effortless, elevated spaces

BURU Launched in 2013 after the birth of her first child, BURU was born out of a deeply personal frustration: the lack of clothing that felt both functional and fashion-forward for women navigating the early, demanding years of motherhood. Morgan Hutchinson, drawing from her background as a stylist and lingerie designer, envisioned garments that could move seamlessly through a woman’s day—from school drop-off to dinner out—without sacrificing ease, washability, or a sense of CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . individuality. The brand’s ethos, often described as “Mom. Life. Styled.,” reflects this balance, offering pieces that are equal parts playful and practical, with signature details like bold prints, feminine silhouettes, and—perhaps most beloved— well-placed pockets. "After four years of living in Beijing, I came back as a new mom in my thirties. My life and style evolved quickly, but I struggled to find quality pieces that hit all the marks—beautiful, versatile and timeless with a twist. And so, BURU was born," Morgan smiles. "Fashion has been a huge part of my life since I was a child." She continues, "Pairing outfits and shopping vintage started early for me, and the desire for unique personal style is a constant. I want BURU to provide that for all our customers in a way that accommodates every phase of their lives." When asked about her biggest challenges as an entrepreneur, Morgan replies, "Ha ha. How much time do you have? Name it and we’ve dealt with it. Balancing marriage and motherhood with 3 children. Seeking capital for growth. People not taking me seriously. People addressing my husband over me. The pressure of being a female breadwinner. And in general, the self-doubt that often comes

with being a woman are all challenges I've dealt with in my career." Morgan moved to LA to build a factory for BURU 9 years ago. "I’m so proud to say that we now have a team of over 40 full-time production members. The ability to create with our pattern and sample makers in-person and in real time is such a luxury for the business. We are able to keep the vision while also scaling responsibly." She continues, "Of course we also have wonderful overseas partners as well to fill in the gaps of what we cannot create in the USA, but our domestic production allows more seamless work regarding all our styles. It allows the vision to remain intact across all channels." She is a constant encourager for women embracing their own style. "I’m always telling our customers to “play in their closets.” Have fun - fashion shouldn’t be serious. It should bring joy. I hope that BURU brings joy and confidence to our customers every moment they wear it." Her biggest mentors are the women in her family. "Hands-down the women in my life have taught me the most - my mother, my grandmothers, my great-grandmothers." When it comes to family time, Morgan's favorite thing to do with her family is travel. "Travel is our family’s love language. We love experiencing new places and new cultures together." She adds, "I’m also infinitely inspired by the fashion, the food and the architecture of foreign countries." BURU continues to hit milestone after milestone, now with retail stores in Charleston, NYC, and Palm Beach. Morgan also hosts first customer driven trips to LA. "Last fall over 60 women traveled to Los Angeles for dinner at our home, it was a dream." And the way her family has been a part of experiencing her dream become a reality has been beyond impactful. "Honestly seeing our children run around our factory in LA or exploring Peru, India and China on sourcing trips moves me deeply and still makes me tear up." "I believe clothing is wearable art—a medium that allows us to show people who we are without saying a word. This has been my mission in fashion," she says profoundly. CONTINUED >

Aside from creating a beautiful clothing line, Morgan hopes to build a legacy of transparency for mental health and has been a vocal advocate for those dealing with bipolar disorder. "From the start, I’ve spoken openly about my bipolar diagnosis. It’s so important to me to help end the stigma and help others deal with their challenges. It is more than necessary to talk about mental health, to share stories of those struggles. People need to know they are not alone as they navigate through the hard times in life." She adds, "And why not do that while wearing something fabulous." New location, same charm. Find BURU at 104 N. Market St., or shop online at shopburu.com

At first glance, JuJu Taylor seems impossible to miss. She gravitates toward vibrant colors, layers her wrists with bold stacks of jewelry, and somehow makes statement pieces feel effortlessly wearable. Her style is joyful, intentional, and unmistakably her own.
Clutch: JuJu Loves Cuff: Vintage YSL
"This city is pastel and wrought iron and flowers falling over walls, it's hard to live here and dress in beige." But there was a time when none of that existed. Like so many women, JuJu remembers the years after becoming a mother as a season when she quietly disappeared. Black yoga pants became the uniform. Makeup slowly vanished from the morning routine. The messy bun wasn't a style choice, it was simply survival. Without realizing it, she had stopped showing up for herself because everyone else came first. "You don't wake up one day and decide to stop caring," she says. "It's a season you ease into, and then one day you look up and it's been three years." It was an honest conversation with a friend that finally stopped her in her tracks. "Your brand is Julianne Taylor Style," her friend told her. "You're designing all these fabulous products, and your personal style doesn't match your brand." Then came the phrase JuJu says she'll never forget.
"You look like you’re wearing I give up clothes." "It hit like a gut punch," she admits. "Mostly because she was right. But that’s not the energy I want to walk into a day with, and I was wearing it anyway." She didn't reinvent herself overnight. She simply began making small choices that reminded her she still mattered. Real pants instead of leggings. A swipe of lipstick before leaving the house. A colorful headband. A favorite bracelet. "It wasn't about being seen," she says. "It was about signaling to myself that I was worth the effort." Those small decisions became something much bigger than a new wardrobe. They became a way back to herself. Today, JuJu describes her style in three words: bright, deliberate, and joyful. She doesn't dress for trends or for social media. She dresses for the woman she wants to be that day. "My mood comes first. CONTINUED >

The mirror comes second," she says. "If I've got a highstakes meeting, I want to feel strong. If it's lunch with a friend, I want the outfit to match the energy." Living in Charleston doesn't hurt, either. "This city is pastel and wrought iron and flowers falling over walls," she says with a smile. "It's hard to live here and dress in beige." That same philosophy now shapes every part of her life. Whether she's curating jewelry for JuJu Loves, speaking to groups of women, or encouraging someone online who's struggling to rediscover herself, her message remains remarkably consistent: you don't need permission to take up space. "Do it scared," she says. "I've never done a single thing worth doing that didn't make me a little nauseous first. Brave shows up about ten minutes after you start." JuJu knows firsthand that success isn't measured only by numbers. After building a seven-figure home décor business, she made the difficult decision to walk away when the business no longer reflected the life she wanted to live. "You can absolutely succeed your way into a life you don't want," she says. Today she's building again, but this time with a different definition of success, one rooted in joy, purpose, and helping other women remember their own worth. Ask JuJu what she's most proud of, however, and she doesn't mention the companies she's built or the audiences she's inspired. She talks about her children. "My kids watched me disappear," she says. "And they've watched me build a life I actually want." That's the legacy she hopes they'll carry forward, not that their mother wore bright colors or built successful businesses, but that they watched her choose herself again. "I want them to grow up believing you're allowed to want things," she says. "You don't wait for permission. You don't shrink to make other people comfortable." She adds, “it also helps that I’m married to someone who’s perfectly content watching me shine.” Perhaps that's why JuJu’s story resonates with so many women. It isn't really about fashion at all. It's

about the season so many mothers know intimately, the one where they slowly fade into the background, and the courage it takes to step back into the light. Sometimes that journey begins with a bold pink jacket. Sometimes it's a bright statement earring. Sometimes it's simply choosing to believe you're worth the effort. That instinct also led JuJu to launch JuJu Loves in 2024, a curated shop of bold, statement making jewelry and accessories. "Every piece is meant to give you a little jolt of
confidence, whether it's the star of the outfit or the thing you never take off," she says. JuJu Taylor has spent the last few years relearning how to show up boldly, in her closet, her business, and her life. That same intentionality shows up in her backyard too. "Chris and I have always said that we want to be the house that our kids and their friends want to hang out in," JuJu says. With teenagers who love filling the pool with friends, she and her husband set out to create more than a backyard, they wanted a gathering place, right in their own neighborhood.
"We love filling our home with laughter and fun. All are welcome in the Taylor house and we always want people to feel at ease." That mission shaped every decision in the couple's new pool house lounge, a spot designed for relaxing, watching a movie, or just hanging out after a swim. It's become the kind of space friends and neighbors gravitate toward, exactly the point. Inside the Taylor home, color is everywhere, but outside tells a different story. "The interior of our home is a rainbow of colors, and I wanted our pool house to feel more coastal and relaxing," JuJu says. She started with black and white striped Sunbrella curtains set against the green of the house, then built out a more neutral coastal palette with pops of green, blue, and yellow, a nod to the Lowcountry setting just beyond her back door. Durability mattered just as much as style. Charleston's salt air and sun are unforgiving on outdoor furniture, so JuJu partnered with local outdoor specialists Auden & Avery to source pieces that could handle the elements without sacrificing look. "I love the look of rattan and we definitely wanted to make sure that we put durable outdoor furniture in the pool house," she says.
Auden & Avery's wide selection of furniture, pillows, plants, and accessories meant she could fill the entire space from one local source, an easy win for a busy household. As evening falls, string lights strung across the ceiling bring the whole space to life. "It feels cozy, intimate, and inviting," JuJu says of the warm glow. It's a fitting extension of the woman behind Julianne Taylor Style and JuJu Loves, someone who has spent years learning that showing up for yourself, and for the people you love, doesn't require permission. Her pool house lounge doesn't chase trends any more than her wardrobe does. It's simply designed for exactly the life she wants to live right here in Mount Pleasant, full of laughter, color in all the right places, and people who feel completely at home.
