LIFESTYLE LETTER
The Local Love Issue Living locally is everything to our family. My husband and I have always owned our own businesses so when it comes to "local love," the appreciation we have for our community runs deep. While we travel often and some of our work has taken us away from our direct community, we don't take our community and its resources lightly. Our children and their activities, our favorite restaurants that become ritual, our friends that have become family over the years. We are so grateful every day for this community, and we consistently find ways to pour back into it. While we teeter between the chill of January Winter and the excitement of Spring, we hope you’ll be inspired to take a moment to come together with the people in your life. The ones in your home and on your street. In your neighborhood and your community. “Love local” means your local businesses, and those in your community - but it also means loving what is near. Those under your own roof included. So, grab a coffee at Just Love and head home for a game night around the fire with the family. Or meet an old friend after work for a bite to eat and a beer at Burger Theory. Think of your significant other and grab some delicious pizza and a bottle of wine from Calabria. Or plan on a movie night in while indulging in some incredible charcuterie from Graze Craze. We hope you enjoy meeting some of Mount Juliet's most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes, while we inspire you with a local business owner who left the corporate world to work for himself and has never looked back. Soak up some fun recipes & DIY ideas for a date night at home. We are thankful for our local parks that serve our community daily, learn more about Mount Juliet's favorite go-to spot for our kiddos. Last but not least, plan for a perfect domestic getaway to Palm Beach Florida! Thanks for letting us be a part of the life you are building here in Mount Juliet, TN whatever that may look like. We hope that we inspire you to love it just a bit more than you did before. Happy February!

If this were an episode of a popular reality dating series, this pool of candidates would undoubtedly inspire cheeky serenades, crass one-liners, and plenty of limousine luxury. That is to say, Mount Juliet has a wealth of riches in who it counts among its single and successful. The following bachelors and bachelorettes are ambitious, adventurous, motivated, intelligent, and deeply worthy of the love and companionship that they seek.

Callie Heatherly (Business owner)
Heard of a boss babe? Callie Heatherly is one of those. She owns two companies (Callie Elyse Events and Qavah Staging & Design). You might think owning two companies is more than sufficient to keep one occupied, but you’d be mistaken. She volunteers as a Court Appointed Special Advocate and sits on Cumberland University’s Alumni Board of Directors. Despite (or perhaps, because of) her busy schedule, she knows the value of time, calling it her “biggest love language.” When she gets that time to herself, you can find her enjoying a ‘solid gym session’ or traveling. But who would she like to spend more of that time with? “Someone who first and foremost loves the Lord,” she says. “Someone who knows how to communicate and isn’t scared of the hard conversations while dating.” Like a true pragmatist, she knows that successful relationships are born out of having the difficult conversations at the beginning. Therefore, being secure in knowing what you want will go a long way. As for her quirks? She might be a bit of a ‘passenger princess.’ But with that work ethic and a great head on her shoulders, who wouldn’t want her as their passenger?

Dalton Leath (Personal trainer)
In his capacity as a trainer at Burn Bootcamp, Dalton Leath will challenge your physical limitations. Suffice it to say, fitness is important to him – his lifestyle is literally built around this pursuit. But that’s not to say that he doesn’t have other interests. He enjoys music, nice dinners, and the outdoors. Dogs and coffee (good coffee, that is) are also up there. Given the central role health and fitness play in Dalton’s life, it’s not a surprise that he is looking for a partner who is motivated to live a healthy lifestyle as well. He also values honest communication and an appetite for adventure. And don’t mistake an interest in health and fitness for a lack of emotional or spiritual depth. Dalton happens to have both. “In a world where darkness isn’t hard to find, I hope to be a light. Most young adults spend their time partying, struggling with who they are, in search of deeper connections. Overcoming my own struggles, I hope to help many do the same through health and fitness.”

Shari Arnold
(Owner of Third Coast Salt) Shari Arnold contains many multitudes. She’s a business owner (of Third Coast Salt Day Spa), a mother to two amazing teenagers, and a woman of many passions and pursuits. Shari enjoys, “Walks and hiking, especially around waterfalls. LSU Football. The Theatre. Live music. Yoga and meditation. International travel is my favorite pastime. I travel annually with my high school tribe and collegiate sisters as I treasure friendships deeply.” As one might expect from somebody who enjoys such a full and rich single life (she points out that single is not synonymous with ‘solo’), Shari knows exactly what she wants, and she won’t settle for anything less. Her ideal partner? “Spiritual, kind, and heart-driven. Puts his children and/or my children first. Highly-motivated, authentic, witty, educated & of alpha energy! Non-smoker, nice hands & valid passport. If there is an ex-wife, I would like him to treat her as the mother of any children should be honored. It wouldn’t hurt if he was amazing in the kitchen as I am a foodie and despise cooking.” And while it may be a full wish list, she’s not concerned about timing; she’s confident that, “God will send that special person when the time is right.”

Randall Hutto (Wilson County Mayor)
As the mayor of Wilson County, Randall Hutto needs very little introduction. But while many people know of him, not many know him. He describes himself as an easygoing guy. “A kind and fair person with a servant’s heart,” who enjoys, “all kinds of activities, especially if it involves being outdoors.” These activities range from yardwork, concerts, travel, exercise, and spending time with family and friends. Cooking is a more recent pursuit of his, and he quips, “I like to keep up with the newest restaurants in case my cooking experiments don’t turn out quite as planned.” When asked what he’s looking for in a partner, he gives a refreshingly thoughtful answer. He’s looking for somebody who shares his interests, of course, but he also wants, “a relationship of balance; her strengths compliment my weaknesses and vice versa. I’m looking for something more than just a person to pass the time with. She’s someone who loves unconditionally. She loves her family, loves the Lord, and is a friend to everyone. She’s as pretty on the inside as she is on the outside. She’s able to sit with me in comfortable silence just as easily as getting lost in deep conversation.”

Pe o p le d o n’t h a t e Mo n d ays . T h ey h at e t h e i r j o b s . The pandemic was a paradigm-shifting event – so much so, that the innumerable ways in which it has changed the world are still being cataloged and understood to this day. One of the most observable effects was the way in which it changed where (and how) people work. Changing career fields was so endemic that it earned its own title in American life – that is, The Great Resignation. Patrick Robinson, owner of local Relive Studio, was one of those ‘job switchers.’ Photography and videography had always been a skill of Robinson’s that he had put to use as a ‘side hustle.’ But like many Americans, when the pandemic hit, he began to reevaluate his priorities. He noticed that local businesses were struggling and thought he could put his talent to good use by helping these companies market themselves to, as he puts it, “break through the noise.” By identifying and capitalizing on this market need, Robinson soon saw his side hustle making more than his nine-to-five. And he wasn’t a slouch at his corporate job. He had established a promising career and was climbing the ladder, with sights set on a leadership position. So, suffice it to say, when his endeavors in photography/videography began outperforming his regular job, he was achieving much success. And when one begins making more as their own boss than they can earn working for somebody else, it’s not hard to understand why they would make the leap to being a business owner. Beyond the potential financial benefits, being self-employed can also be a liberation of one’s passion. Robinson’s passion for photography and videography is readily apparent
in both his marketing and his own words. As he explains, he was always ‘curious of cameras,’ but he ascribes much of his ability to ADD. “Having ADD is like a superpower. You’re able to get really good at something, really quickly. It becomes an obsession. And then once you get good, you kind of just move on. I haven’t been able to move on from this one.” He attributes his inability to burn out on photography to the fact that, “it’s a never-ending loop of learning. There’s always new tech, new gear to learn, new methods. It’s providing that feeling of fulfillment that fuels my obsessive desire to get really good at something.” And while this is a powerful motivator to excel (and has proven to be a successful method for Robinson), the ability to help document family memories was also a powerful motivator. Fortunately, Robinson had a childhood that was well documented – unfortunately, the film was rarely developed, leaving a “treasure of forgotten memories.” This has clearly compelled him to document his own family. He reflects, “It has something to do with wanting to fulfill a dream I have for my own kids. Maybe it’s documenting their lives that can somehow fill the hole of not seeing mine documented. I’m still figuring that out.” The skills he has honed over the years, from discovering the camera and having an ADD-level obsession with it to strengthening his skills by documenting his own growing family, served him well when he made the transition to being a business owner. And now he is a jack of all trades. He provides services for a diverse range of subjects (weddings, real estate, lifestyle, restaurant,

commercial, and even trucking) because, to him, it’s simply a matter of telling stories. “Story is everywhere. It’s finding those nuggets and then showing others in a visually stunning way.” Though he has experience and skill with each subject, Relive Studio works mainly in commercial photo and video now, specializing in increasing engagement through social media. One gets the sense from speaking to Robinson, that he likely named his studio ‘Relive,’ due to his desire for his family (and now his customers) to have the ability to relive their most precious memories through photos

and videos. But one could also hear the story of his journey to self-employment and think perhaps, with this studio, this is Robinson’s chance to relive his own life – as his own boss, and on his own terms. And he would encourage you to do the same. “People don’t hate Mondays, they hate their jobs. And if that’s you, I encourage you to take that hobby you have to the next level. Start a side hustle. Someone has probably done it really well and has made free YouTube videos on it. The one person that can change your future is you.”

THE HEART OF A COMMUNITY
ARTICLE BY CASSIDY POLMAN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY RANDALL COE
In the spirit of celebrating community in our local love issue, we would be remiss not to turn our attention towards the serene and natural beauty of Charlie Daniels Park in the heart of Mount Juliet. This little corner of our town centers around play, sport, relaxation, movement, and an overall sense of ‘togetherness’ that so many families in Mount Juliet enjoy throughout the year.

This park is appropriately named after country music icon, Charlie Daniels who was a resident of Mount Juliet and a noted lover of Tennessee and its people. And for decades, the park has served as a place where folks can find delight among its many amenities. Whether you come here to stroll on the peaceful walking path, run around on the playground, play a game of basketball, have a picnic, or splash around Ava’s Splash pad, Charlie Daniels Park allows its visitors to enjoy themselves and their time spent here. Residents are encouraged to take part in several events hosted at Charlie Daniels Park throughout the year; most notably, Celebrate Mount Juliet, an event that brings thousands of people out as they celebrate our city’s anniversary each year. The park also hosts events such as Food & Flick movie nights, craft fairs, Halloween in the Park, Cruiseins, and much more. Mount Juliet is truly a special place to be, and Charlie Daniels Park is the gem that keeps reminding us just how special our community really is. “Ain’t it good to be alive and be in Tennessee?”Charlie Daniels. For more information on Charlie Daniels Park and to stay informed about upcoming events, visit www.mtjuliet-tn.gov.

When it comes to activities, Palm Beach’s year-round, practically perfect weather allows for a plethora of outdoor activities. The island’s Lake Trail is an idyllic paved path for walking, biking, and rollerblading as it highlights Palm Beach’s natural beauty, as well as providing glimpses of some incredible homes. Want to give surfing a try? Depending on the season, this area of South Florida has waves that can be just the right size for newbies to learn to surf. One company that helps visitors catch their first wave is Gurferlady, a female-run surf company offering private lessons, group clinics, and surf camps on the island. With some of the state’s most scenic golf courses including the beautiful Ocean Course at The Breakers and the beach-front Palm Beach Par 3 Golf Course, golf-lovers should be sure to set aside time to play a round. For those looking for a more relaxing way to have fun in the sun, Palm Beach has exquisite, sparkling blue water and fantastic beaches to catch some rays, read a book, or take a walk. While vacation is made for resting and sleeping in, try to get up early one morning of your trip to take in a gorgeous Palm Beach sunrise! If some retail therapy is on your itinerary or even just some unbelievable window shopping, take a stroll down Palm Beach’s famous Worth Avenue to see the high-end storefronts with some of the top designer brands and the street’s notable clock tower. The island is filled with fine dining seafood and steak restaurants for a formal dinner, but for those seeking

a more casual place to grab a bite to eat while out exploring the island Pizza Al Fresco lives up to its name with brick oven pizza, pasta, and outdoor dining. Around since the late 1930s and one of John F. Kennedy’s haunts, Green's Pharmacy & Luncheonette is a famous local spot for breakfast and lunch. Another good spot just a short walk from the beach, Surf Side Diner is a nice place to duck in for a milkshake, the special of the day, or even all-day breakfast. With plenty of activities to keep you entertained, as well as many ways to relax and be pampered, Palm Beach is a lovely spot for a beach getaway for families, couples, or even a nice solo trip for this year’s spring break getaway!

SERVES 4 to 6 people
Ingredients: • • • • • • • • • • • •
PREP TIME:
10 Minutes
Kosher salt to taste 1 pound fresh linguine 6 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil ½ cup finely chopped shallots, from 2 shallots 6 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped 1 cup dry white wine, such as Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc (see note) ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes 2 pounds fresh clams, soaked in water prior ¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons fresh flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped 3 tablespoons unsalted butter 1 teaspoon lemon zest, from 1 lemon, plus more to taste 1 tablespoon lemon juice, from 1 lemon, plus more to taste
COOK TIME:
20 Minutes
T O TA L T I M E :
30 Minutes, plus at least 20 minutes to soak the clams
Instructions:
In a large pot over high heat, bring 4 quarts of water and 2 tablespoons of kosher salt to a boil. Add the linguine and cook according to the package directions until just shy of al dente (the pasta should still be firm to the bite since it will cook another minute or two in the sauce). Meanwhile, in a very large sauté pan over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil until hot but not smoking. Add the shallots and garlic and sauté until just golden, about 30 seconds. Add the wine, red pepper flakes, ¾ teaspoon kosher salt, clams, and ¼ cup of the parsley; bring to a simmer and cook, covered, until the clams open, 6 to 8 minutes. Discard any unopened clams. Reserving ½ cup of the cooking water, drain the linguine in a colander (do not rinse). Add the pasta to the sauté pan with the clams. (If you don’t have room for everything in one pan, transfer the clams to a plate and cover to keep warm. When ready to serve, add them back to the pasta on a serving platter). Increase the heat to medium and cook the linguini with the clams, tossing occasionally, until the pasta absorbs most of the sauce and is just tender, 1 to 2 minutes. If necessary, add some of the reserved cooking water to keep moist. Remove the pan from the heat. Add the butter, lemon zest, lemon juice, and the remaining 2 tablespoons of parsley; toss to coat. Taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt, lemon zest and/or lemon juice, if necessary. Transfer to a serving dish or bowls and serve. Enjoy!

GARDEN TO GLASS DIY COCKTAILS WITH FRESH HERBS Nothing says spring like the aroma of fresh-cut herbs in a crisp, cold, cocktail. With warmer weather finally here, growing herbs at home can transform your cocktail hour and add a fresh kick to your springtime favorites. Growing herbs is incredibly easy and can be done in a variety of ways—from a container in a window, to a planter box in the yard. With a container or garden full of fresh herbs, you will be ready to take your cocktails up a notch. Basil is a bright herb that is easy to grow and perfect for cocktails. Make sure to harvest immediately before mixing drinks and take leaves from the top to ensure a continual harvest. Fresh muddled basil leaves lend a crispness to the Gin Basil Cucumber cocktail. Sage is easy to grow and does well in containers. The leaves add an earthy freshness to a refreshing cherry-infused Bourbon. Mint is also easy to grow, but give it lots of room, as it likes to spread out and is virtually indestructible in the garden. Mint is a versatile herb but is especially lovely in the Rhubarb Mint Mojito. Try recreating these refreshing cocktails with herbs grown at home and take your cocktail game to new heights!
