FINDING STRENGTH FROM AN Unlikely Place

Dear Neighbors,
This month, we dedicate our pages to the women who embody strength and resilience—the mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends who lift us up, push forward despite challenges, and continue to show up with grace and determination.
Life feels heavy for many right now. The world moves fast, expectations run high, and the weight of responsibilities can feel overwhelming. Yet, in the midst of it all, women continue to rise—leading families, businesses, and communities with unwavering dedication. This issue is a tribute to that strength, a reminder of the power that lies in resilience, and an invitation to celebrate the incredible women around us.
You won’t have a dry eye after reading Ronda Davis’ story. The amazing owner and creator behind Healing Feathers Therapy. How she discovered her purpose from the most unlikely upbringing. If anyone has fought against their environment more, I’d love to meet them. Angela Martindale ignites a conversation we all need to have with ourselves and our best girlfriends. We have some hair inspo and tutorials for those spring wedding invites or just a way to freshen your look from our favorite salon at 5D Salon. We’re excited to introduce you to Btone; the newest fitness trend lucky to land in Millcreek. Meet the community minded owner, Janeen McCormick and why this is the perfect way to hit fast forward on your strength and fitness goals for summer.
With Mother’s Day around the corner, we’ve gathered some meaningful ways to spend time with Mom, whether it’s a quiet morning over coffee and making brunch, an adventure in the mountains, or a simple moment of gratitude for all she’s given. Moms, we see you. Your love, sacrifice, and perseverance do not go unnoticed. This one’s for you.
To every hardworking woman juggling life’s many demands, know this: you are strong, you are seen, and you are enough. May you find time to rest, to connect, and to honor the incredible person you are.
With admiration and gratitude,

In this photo, Nanette stands proudly, holding up the stilllife painting that inspired Four Lemons — a delicate composition of four lemons on a windowsill by Rebecca Wagstaff . Her smile reflects the deep connection she feels to this piece, which marked the beginning of her mission of making art accessible to all.
Nanette Amis is the creative force behind Four Lemons Art Gallery, a curator with an eye for beauty and a passion for bringing people together through art. A Salt Lake City native, she earned her degree in Humanities and Art History from Brigham Young University before embarking on an adventure that would shape her future, blending her love for art with her entrepreneurial spirit.
After marrying her husband Jeff, the couple spent their early years in Seattle, where Nanette fell in love with the vibrant energy of Pike Place Market. Inspired by its eclectic charm, she dreamed of bringing a similar artistic hub to Salt Lake City. That dream became reality with the launch of the Utah Art Market—a thriving showcase for local artists that has only grown since its backyard beginnings.
As a mother of four, Nanette has seamlessly woven family into her work, with each of her children contributing to the business over the years. When she’s not curating art or building creative connections, she can be found entertaining friends and family, devouring historical fiction, knitting tiny baby hats, skiing at Alta, or indulging in life’s simple pleasures—Tootsie Rolls, Cinnamon Bears, and Cheetos. She also has a deep appreciation for vintage textiles and often incorporates them into her creative projects.
Her artistic influences span centuries and styles, from Botticelli and Vermeer to Sorolla, Picasso, and Matisse. But beyond the masterpieces, what truly fuels her passion is connecting people—artists, collectors, and dreamers alike—through the power of art.
In May 1994, Nanette Amis founded the Utah Art Market with the goal of bringing affordable arts and crafts to the Salt Lake community. What began as a small, once-a-year event in her backyard has since grown into four seasonal shows annually, each featuring unique pieces inspired by the changing seasons and showcasing the diverse talent of local artists.

Beyond the Utah Art Market, Nanette launched the 135 Fine Art Show a decade ago, aiming to make original artwork accessible to young collectors. With price points at $100, $300, and $500, this show encourages art enthusiasts to begin their own collections without breaking the bank. Due to its success, the event expanded to twice a year, fostering a growing community of passionate collectors and emerging artists.

As both the 135 Fine Art Show and the Utah Art Market grew, so did the demand for handmade, original artwork year-round. Recognizing this, Nanette opened Four Lemons in October 2024—a full-time retail space and gallery dedicated to showcasing local artists. Beyond supporting artists in her community, she also wanted to uplift emerging talents from developing countries.
and metalwork, fiber arts, and more. The Utah Art Market will continue hosting its seasonal shows at Four Lemons, providing a platform for emerging artists to showcase and sell their creations while fostering an even stronger connection between artists and the community.
A section of her store is devoted to artists from Kenya, Uganda, and Ghana, featuring handcrafted works that tell the stories of their cultures and traditions.
The name Four Lemons holds special meaning. It comes from Nanette’s very first piece of original art—a still-life painting of four lemons on a windowsill by Rebecca Waggstaff . This painting marked the
Nanette envisions Four Lemons as more than just a store—it’s a gathering place where art lovers, makers, and collectors can connect, exchange ideas, and be inspired. Whether you’re shopping for a meaningful gift or adding to your collection, we hope you’ll find something special and feel right at home.
A LETTER TO WOMEN BY ANGELA MARTINDALE
PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY ANGELA MARTINDALE
If there’s one thing we have in common, it’s that we wear many hats—mother, leader, entrepreneur, mentor, friend. People ask, how do we do it? In our kindest voice, we say, “We make it work.” All while navigating menopause, joint pain, family drama, and life’s ups and downs. It takes immense energy to hold it all together.
I share this because if even one woman reads this and starts a conversation at her women’s group tonight, then I’ve made a difference. That’s what matters most to me now— in my life, career, and wellness.
I once lived a glamorous life—attending exclusive parties, training celebrities, and working as a private chef for Sundance premieres before Lisa Barlow had Vida Tequila. I’ve coached Olympic athletes, helped Fortune 500 companies revamp their cultures, and successfully sold three companies for profit. I’ve created, branded, and launched over 150 products, earning the nickname “The Architect to the Customer” and the “Wendy” of Billions.
1. Personal Accountability
Self-awareness fuels emotional intelligence, deepens our relationships, and fosters growth. Through coaching, we recognize that personal and professional success are intertwined. As we evolve, we connect more meaningfully with others, and that’s where true transformation happens.
“Self-awareness fuels emotional intelligence, deepens our relationships, and fosters growth.”
3. Invest in Yourself
2. Leadership
True leadership isn’t about accolades—it’s about empowering others. Great leaders build cultures that drive success. When employees thrive, companies thrive. The most impactful leaders mentor, support, and prioritize their teams’ development, laying the foundation for lasting growth.
As an Executive Success Coach and Growth Strategist, my mission is to help individuals and businesses elevate their leadership and careers. Here are my three game-changers for success, wellness, and fulfillment:
You schedule appointments for your kids, pets, and work—so why not for yourself? Prioritize workouts, meditation, meal prep, or anything that fuels you. Commit to your self-care like you do for others. Show up for yourself— you are your greatest investment.
It’s time to take your next step toward growth. Let’s talk about how.

Ronda Davis, LCSW, Shares her story about healing through her childhood wounds and empowering others to do the same
Born in prison, Ronda Davis, LCSW, entered this world steeped in trauma. Just minutes after being cradled in her incarcerated mother’s arms, her uncle, Ron—her namesake— passed away. This loss would deeply affect her father, her primary caretaker, who was already struggling with legal issues and sobriety.
The odds seemed stacked against Ronda from the start, marking her as another product of family dysfunction, doomed to repeat the cycle. But Ronda has a different story to tell.
Ever since her Uncle Ron’s passing, she felt his presence and guidance. “That was just part of my childhood,” she recalls. “I thought every little kid had their own spirit guide they could see and talk to.”
This deep connection to another realm gave Ronda a sense of knowing and resilience amidst the chaos at home, reflecting that she wanted to be a therapist from a very young age. “I wanted to be a role model for others— someone who showed that even if you didn’t have a ‘normal’ childhood, that’s okay. Your life isn’t meant for tragedy or disappointment. You can live a happy, fulfilling life.”
Her resilience, however, was met with naysayers—church members and other community members were quick to label her as a broken girl from a broken family. Though they meant well, they constantly pitied her and pointed to her family’s inadequacies. But Ronda knew she was more than her circumstances and refused to accept the limiting labels so eagerly placed upon her.
Determined to prove everyone wrong and build a healthier life, Ronda earned her Master’s in Social Work and began working at a center supporting individuals with trauma. While she loved the work, something didn’t sit right. She noticed that clients never graduated from therapy—they came in with trauma and talked about it on repeat for years. This raised ethical questions for her about a system that seemed to entrap people instead of empowering them to heal and move forward.
Then, life threw a wrench in her path. Ronda’s father passed away, and suddenly, she felt as though she had lost her north star. Directionless, she began to spiral.
"I saw the split in the road,” she explains. “Choosing a life similar to my parents, where drugs, alcohol, and escapism could have been an answer. And I knew on a soul level that wasn't what I wanted. But on the other side, I had lost my light.”
At her lowest point, on the anniversary of her father’s death, Ronda woke up to his voice: “What the h*ll are you doing with your life?”
“I either needed to take action toward the life I truly wanted, or I was going to let myself spiral and lose everything.”
“I realized in that moment,” she says, “I either needed to take action toward the life I truly wanted, or I was going to let myself spiral and lose everything.”
Ronda took steps toward healing. Heading into Utah’s West Desert with her dad’s dog, she went on a quiet hike, pouring her heart out to the universe: “I’m lost. I don’t know what to do. I need a sign.”
The answer she was looking for came in an unexpected form, feathers.
Feathers began falling in front of her at every turn, each one different in shape, size, and color. “I was tying my shoe when I noticed one placed naturally under a rock by my foot. They felt intentional, like they were meant for me to find. I gathered them all and ended up with 13 feathers,” Ronda says.
After that weekend, Ronda had an overwhelming sense of clarity, an “undeniable yes” to move forward with her dream of starting her own practice—one where she could help people fully heal from trauma and live their highest potential.
That was the impetus for Healing Feathers—a wellness center grounded in holistic healing and endless possibilities, where clients overcome their trauma, and yes, graduate from therapy. Located on Highland Drive, the center offers a unique mix of services. Traditional trauma therapies like EMDR, DBT, mindfulness, and somatic work are combined with holistic practices, such as reiki energy therapy, sound baths, meditation, intuitive coaching, and mediumship.
“We’re not just treating symptoms,” Ronda explains. “We look at the whole person—their mind, body, and spirit. Whether it’s reconnecting with your higher self, giving a voice to your inner child, or confronting past trauma, we create a safe space to process and release.”
One of the center’s most impactful offerings is ketamine-assisted psychotherapy––a treatment that combines the use of ketamine, a medication with anesthetic and dissociative properties, with psychotherapy. Partnering with prescribers, Healing Feathers facilitates guided sessions where clients use dissolvable ketamine tablets under supervision. Ronda and her team stay with clients throughout the experience, helping them set intentions and ensuring their safety.
“This therapy can offer a profound reset,” she says. “It’s not for everyone, but it’s a powerful tool when used thoughtfully.”
In addition to individual therapy, Healing Feathers offers monthly retreats, psychoeducational workshops, and other opportunities designed to help clients deepen their healing journey.
“I want to lead by example and show people that you are not your trauma. You are not the dysfunction you came from,” Ronda asserts. “You are worthy. You can change, and you can live the fullest, most authentic version of your life.”
It’s time to let your feathers shine and fly.

INSPIRATION FOR A MOTHER/ DAUGHTER DIY DAY
ARTICLE BY MEL BOBAN
An afternoon spent together is priceless with today’s busy schedules. Instead of going out, staying in can provide quaint, quiet one-on-one time for a mother and daughter (or multiple daughters). Finding time on calendars is the hard part, and filling that time is all fun from there. Here are a few favorite ideas for inspiration that may spark excitement for planning those special times together.
Custom DIY charm necklaces and bracelets are trending. Gather a theme idea: birthstones, family initials, travels or even favorite hobbies, and procure charms from your local craft store or online shop. Selecting charms for each other also could be a fun way to bring delight to the crafting occasion. Necklaces and bracelets can be made for each other, or as future gifts for upcoming occasions such as a family wedding, a birthday milestone or an anniversary.
03 Meal Prep
Text conversations around kitchen tips or ingredient procurement seem endless. Spend some time together in the kitchen preparing favorite family recipes, sharing Mom’s best tips and tricks. Choosing freezer-friendly meals is a great way to walk away with meals for upcoming busy days. There’s nothing like Mom’s recipes!
Storytelling makes for the best memories. Structure memory recall by filming or journaling interview-style question-and-answer sessions, cataloging information for future generations. Videos and notes with detailed family adventures are priceless, and we all always wish we had more of them.

Section out face-framing pieces and the lower section of hair. These pieces will be pinned up at the end. Take a section from your ear to the top of your crown, then begin a ponytail but don’t pull the hair all the way through—this will create a loop.
With the remaining hair, create a second ponytail right below the first one. Repeat the previous step by not pulling the hair all the way through, forming two buns.
Put your fingers through the bottom bun and loop it over the top bun, creating a voluminous, messy updo. Pull and tug on the bun, adjusting the pieces until you love the shape and texture.

Take the remaining face-framing pieces and pin up any sections you don’t want left down. Use a curling iron to add soft waves for a tousled look, or smooth them down for a sleek finish. For extra dimension, twist sections before pinning them. Secure with clips or bobby pins, then finish with hairspray or texture spray as needed for a flawless, long-lasting style!

Q: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO OPEN BTONE IN MILLCREEK, AND WHAT MAKES YOUR METHODOLOGY UNIQUE?
Janeen: I’ve always wanted to own a business, when I discovered btone, I fell in love with the efficiency and effectiveness of the workout. In just 45 minutes, you engage every muscle in your body and see results faster than with any other workout I’ve tried. It’s intense but worth it. I knew this was the perfect way for me to make a difference in people’s lives. In just six months, we’ve already created a space where people feel energized and supported.
“WE OFFER MODIFICATIONS TO ENSURE EVERY CLASS MEETS INDIVIDUAL NEEDS, SO NO ONE FEELS DEFEATED.”
Q: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE CULTURE AND COMMUNITY AT BTONE?
Janeen: We welcome people of all ages—we have clients between the ages of 17 and 72. We offer modifications to ensure every class meets individual needs, so no one feels defeated. Our culture is built around a three-chapter approach: First, we want everyone to feel welcomed and appreciated. We ask about injuries, and get to know them on a personal level so we can understand how we can maximize their workout. Second, during class, we provide modifications and hands-on assistance for a one-on-one feel. Lastly, we make sure everyone leaves feeling uplifted. We value feedback because there’s always room to improve.
Q: WHAT SETS BTONE APART FROM OTHER WORKOUT CLASSES?
Janeen: We meet people where they are. We don’t expect clients to fit into our workout—we tailor it to them. Our studio is light, airy, and welcoming. Unlike many fitness spaces, we focus on how you feel rather than how you look.
Q: HOW DOES BTONE’S WORKOUT APPROACH STRENGTH AND RECOVERY?
Janeen: Our method is high-intensity but low-impact, using customized reformers that are comfortable, sturdy and safe. Because our workouts are 100% core-focused, they provide stability for everyday activities, and the rest of the body follows. It’s about strength, not just physique.
Q: WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR BEGINNERS WHO MAY FEEL INTIMIDATED?
Janeen: Give it a chance! The first class can feel overwhelming, but it gets easier. We offer a two-week program with unlimited sessions, so you can adjust at your own pace.
Q: WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR WOMEN WANTING TO START A FITNESS BUSINESS?
Janeen: Just do it! Trust yourself. Even on tough days, putting one foot forward creates momentum. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the impact you can make.

Flowers have a rich history of symbolic meanings.
As far back as the 19th century, they were used to convey secret messages. Stories throughout history recount how flowers were used to send hidden messages between people. French publishers began producing flower dictionaries that cataloged the many floral codes that had been gathered over time. Some of these meanings were linked to the flower’s root name, often derived from mythology, while others were drawn from the flowers themselves. The colors, medicinal properties, and even the superstitions
associated with these flowers all contributed to the creation of this secret language.
In addition to their symbolic significance, flowers bring natural beauty to any interior, enhancing spaces with their color, texture, and mood-boosting qualities. Floral arrangements not only create a cozy atmosphere but also infuse a room with personality, elevating the overall ambiance. There are multiple ways to creatively integrate florals into your home, and whether using fresh or artificial flowers, creative displays can make quite the statement piece.
Add an extra burst of color and texture to your floral arrangement by layering fruit around the edges of your vase. To achieve this, place a smaller vase inside a larger one, ensuring the flowers stay contained in the inner vase to preserve their shape. Fill the surrounding space with water and then arrange sliced fruit along the vase’s outer sides. For a fresh touch, add ice cubes to keep the fruit looking vibrant longer and to hold them in place. Not only will the flowers’ fragrance fill the air, but the citrus notes from the fruit will add a refreshing scent.
For a dramatic effect, try creating a hanging floral display. Floral cones are available for this style, or you can craft your own for a more personalized, organic look. The contrast between long-stemmed white flowers and a dark wall creates a striking visual impact.
No matter how you choose to display them, flowers are a wonderful addition to any room. They boost mood, improve air quality, spark creativity, and bring a decorative charm to any space.
Using a frog to display flowers creates a minimalist yet elegant look that highlights the individuality of each bloom. It helps the stems stay in place. To set it up, place the frog on your chosen display base, whether it’s a vase, bowl, platter, or any container you prefer. Then, simply insert the flower stems by gently pressing them into the prongs. Tip: Flowers with sturdy stems and a lighter top work best in a frog, as delicate blooms tend to lose their shape more quickly.
