The Men’s Issue marks the 12th issue of Middleton City Lifestyle. To wrap up our first year, we are celebrating men in our community who are doing more than just building businesses. They’re building legacies, shaping lives, and redefining what purpose and leadership look like today. We’ll take a closer look at how these legacies are passed on and those who play a supportive role in the dreams of these founders.
In “Boys to Men” we dive into the stories of three family-owned businesses that have been an integral part of the community and are now passing the torch to the next generation. From Badger Popcorn and Concession Supply Co., the provider of UW Athletics concessions, to Vitense Golfland, a beloved family entertainment center, and TQ Diamonds, a jewelry business that crafts personalized, high-quality pieces, you’ll read about how these businesses have each navigated their unique journeys. Their legacies highlight the importance of family, hard work, and innovation, offering valuable insights into how businesses evolve while staying true to their roots.
Also staying true to his roots, Rolando Salas brings the same preparation to VR Painting and Contracting as he did to his professional soccer career. Read about how his athletic background has shaped his hands-on approach to painting, customer relationships, and community.
Anne Ivaska, APNP, is on a mission to help individuals feel their best again. She is transforming men’s hormone therapy with a personalized, science-backed approach. Her personalized hormone treatments are not only changing lives but redefining the future of men’s health and wellness.
We then tell the story of Clay Carlson and Triton Auto Spa. Clay shares his history of working in the car industry with his father and grandfather and how this lifelong passion for cars led him to create a state-of-the-art facility providing full-service car washes and detailing services.
We feel lucky to publish a magazine in a community with so many inspiring stories.
Thank you for your support, and happy reading!

Shaping Our Community from One Generation to the Next
George Vitense opened Vitense Golfland in 1955 with a simple mission: make golf fun and accessible for everyone. With his trailblazing wife Odie, they transformed a patch of farmland into a two-level driving range and fully lit par-3 course, based on George’s belief that the short game is the foundation of great golf.
As young parents, Joel and Sarah Weitz set aside their own career paths in 2001 to become third-generation owners. They continue to navigate challenges through their dedication to adapt and evolve the business, including a transformation of the once seasonal hot spot into a year-round entertainment staple.
Now, two of their children, Heidi and George, are finding their place in the swing of things. The once “needy younger sibling” of a business now provides them a place to grow, together, says Heidi. “Vitense has heart. It’s scrappy. It’s nostalgic. It’s evolving. And I’m so proud that it’s ours!”
Ever grabbed concessions at a Little League game, Camp Randall, Fiserv Forum, or Epic? If so, chances are you’ve already tasted Badger Popcorn products!
The Virnoche family’s story with Badger Popcorn and Concession Supply Co. began in 1979 when Richard and Ellen took a leap of faith and sold their house to purchase a struggling business in an industry they knew nothing about. With a family to provide for, the dynamic duo relied on their natural salesmanship and unmatched work ethic to lay the foundation for something lasting.
In 1993, their sons Tom and Tim took the reins, bringing with them added drive and their own expertise that allowed them to expand into new markets and scale the manufacturing side. They grew the business into what it is today: a trusted supplier of all things concessions, from pretzels and nachos to gourmet popcorn blends for shops across the country.
Now under third-generation ownership, Matt didn’t just inherit the company; he earned it. From helping in production to running deliveries and working in customer service, he learned the business from the ground up. After a brief time in
“Family businesses face many challenges, with only about 40% successfully transitioning to the 2nd generation, and 13% passing down to the 3rd generation. I am proud to be a 3rd generation owner and am grateful for the opportunity to build on my family’s success story.”
the corporate world, he was drawn back to the atmosphere of a small family business. With a fresh perspective, he gradually stepped into leadership roles and eventually purchased the business from his Dad and Uncle in 2021.
Though Matt has been with the company for over 7 years, he is still one of the newest members. “Of my 22 coworkers, some have been here longer than I’ve been alive,” he shares. “Their expertise and loyalty are what make this company so special.”
Matt plans to guide the business into its next era and leave a legacy of his own.
TQ Diamonds began when an unforeseen spark of interest struck 16-year-old Tim Quigley. What started with curiosity quickly grew into a passion, where young Tim’s entrepreneurial instincts had him selling diamonds from his parents’ basement, growing passion into a purpose.
Having kids gave Tim and his wife, Kim, another purpose, a future. Though their namesake preemptively predisposed the potential to take over the business, Tanner and Taryn never felt pressured.
Their passion grew on its own, drawing them to follow additional schooling in the field. The transition has been slow and natural, with space for them to grow and hone in on their strengths, melding into the business with their own voice.
Tanner reflected that “it’s more than just a job, it’s a legacy. You feel connected to something bigger than yourself. Every decision we make is tied to the history and values that were built. There’s a deep sense of pride in continuing that and shaping what it becomes in the future. It’s not just about making jewelry, it’s about continuing a story that we’ve been a part of our whole lives.”
You’re looking for a team of experienced professionals who stay up-to-date with the latest techniques, trends, and industry advancements, providing clients with exceptional and knowledgeable service. You value a warm and inviting atmosphere where smiling faces, delicious beverages, and friendly conversation await you.
You’re looking for a service provider that is dedicated to prioritizing the needs and preferences of each client, actively listening to their concerns, and customizing services accordingly.
You want to support a female owned business that values a team culture of collaboration, respect, and open communication among its employees.

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND ELITE HORMONES?
“Elite Hormones was born from a passion for helping people feel like themselves again. After working in healthcare and seeing how many individuals, especially men, were silently struggling with fatigue, weight gain, decreased sexual health, and brain fog, I realized there was a major gap in how hormone-related issues were being addressed. Most were dismissed as “normal aging” or met with one-size-fits-all solutions. I knew there had to be a better way.
I started Elite Hormones to offer personalized, science-backed hormone replacement therapy and wellness services that help men and women take back control of their health, not just to feel okay, but to feel young again.”
HOW DO HORMONES IMPACT ENERGY, MOOD, WEIGHT, ETC. IN MEN?
“Hormones, particularly testosterone, play a crucial role in nearly every system in the male body. When levels drop due to aging, stress, or other factors, men may experience low energy, depressed mood, poor concentration, difficulty building or maintaining muscle, increased belly fat, and diminished sexual health. Imbalances can also negatively affect sleep and motivation.
By restoring testosterone to optimal levels, we see dramatic improvements in energy, mood, strength, confidence, and quality of life.”
ABOUT
“One of the biggest misconceptions is that testosterone therapy causes prostate cancer or heart disease. Research shows that optimized hormone levels are linked to better cardiovascular and metabolic health.
Another is that testosterone is only for bodybuilders or older men. In reality, men of all ages can suffer from low testosterone, and therapy isn’t about getting “jacked”—it’s about restoring balance so they can feel their best.
We also hear concerns about fertility. While traditional testosterone therapy can have an effect on sexual health, there are alternative strategies, such as gonadorelin or enclomiphene, that preserve fertility while improving testosterone levels.”
“To understand the full picture of their hormonal and overall health, we start with comprehensive lab work. Once labs are completed, we schedule an in-person office visit to review the results, discuss symptoms and goals, and begin treatment—all in the same appointment.
Many of our patients travel a significant distance to see us, so we prioritize convenience without compromising quality. By having labs drawn ahead of time, we can ensure that patients receive a personalized treatment plan and get started right away on testosterone therapy—whether that’s injections, topical creams, or pellet therapy.
Follow-up labs and regular check-ins help fine-tune dosing and monitor key markers like estrogen levels and red blood cell count, ensuring optimal and safe results.
TRT isn’t a quick fix—it’s a guided, longterm approach to feeling your best.”
“Everybody is different, so cookie-cutter hormone therapy doesn’t work. We look beyond basic labs and consider lifestyle, sleep, stress, nutrition, fitness level, and symptoms. Some patients thrive on injections, while others prefer the convenience of pellets or topicals. We also consider estrogen balance, thyroid health, and additional needs like growth hormone optimization or sexual health support.
Treatment is tailored to each individual, and we adjust as needed based on how the patient feels, not just what the labs say.”
“I started Elite Hormones to help men and women take back control of their health, not just to feel okay, but to feel young again.”
“Our patients feel so much better after starting treatment that they naturally begin to move more, eat better, and invest in their health, which amplify the benefits of therapy and improve longterm outcomes. It creates a positive feedback loop.”
ARE THERE LIFESTYLE CHANGES YOU RECOMMEND ALONGSIDE TREATMENT?
“Absolutely. Hormone therapy is powerful, but it works best when paired with healthy habits. We encourage strength training, whole-food nutrition, stress management, sleep, and minimizing alcohol, which amplify the benefits of therapy and improve long-term outcomes.
Our patients feel so much better after starting treatment that they naturally begin to move more, eat better, and invest in their health. It creates a positive feedback loop.”
WHERE DO YOU SEE HORMONE OPTIMIZATION HEADING IN THE NEXT 5–10 YEARS?
“I believe hormone optimization will become a cornerstone of preventative medicine. As research evolves, we’re witnessing how hormones impact heart health, cognitive function, and mental health.
In the next decade, I expect we’ll see broader acceptance of TRT, more advanced delivery systems, and a shift toward proactive care— treating root causes rather than symptoms. Personalized medicine, using genetics and precision lab work, will play a bigger role in tailoring care to the individual.
The future of men’s health is about empowerment—and we’re proud to be part of that movement.”

VR PAINTING & CONTRACTING BRINGS PRO-LEVEL PREPARATION TO EVERY PROJECT
Anyone who watches a sporting event knows that a great deal of preparation goes into success on the field. As a former professional soccer player, Rolando Salas knows this first-hand and has taken this into his company, VR Painting and Contracting. A qual-
the foundation of the company. He credits his soccer friends who own businesses for the inspiration and advice he needed to start his own company. He worked in a friend’s painting company before going out on his own. Rolando also notes that
“PAINTING ISN’T JUST AESTHETIC; IT’S PROTECTIVE… IT SHIELDS YOUR HOME FROM WEATHER
ity outcome was the primary goal in every soccer game for Rolando, and is the goal in every painting job. He notes that “Preparation is the key to a perfect paint job.” This includes cleaning, sanding, and priming, “which ensures the paint adheres better and lasts longer,” giving each property “a professional look.”
Another key element in building a successful business is consistent professionalism, which is based on “friendly and natural” communication, precise estimates, teamwork, and enthusiasm. Because he is the sole owner of his company, Rolando works directly with all homeowners and businesses, and is always on the job site himself.
Rolando’s daughter Victoria has the top billing in his company’s name, VR Painting and Contracting, and the sense of family and community are
his partnership with the SherwinWilliams store in Middleton was a great help in building his business. His two sisters are also business owners, which suggests that owning a business is a family trait. Rolando also reflects his ties to the Middleton community by offering a 20% discount to police, firefighters, and veterans. And despite his busy schedule, Rolando still plays soccer at the Keva Sports Center at least twice a week.
VR Painting and Contracting does home interior paint jobs, as well as re-facing cabinets, removing wallpaper, and other small handyman jobs, and gives discounts for inside jobs from December to March. During the summer months, they also replace siding. Rolando is understandably proud of the long-term commercial jobs they did in the Waupun High School gym and Bob Suter’s Legacy20

Arena. He notes that patience and pride in his work, qualities he honed as an athlete, are crucial for such long-term jobs. Rolando offers free estimates and warranties for all his jobs and is happy to keep his clients for any future painting or contracting needs. Rolando stresses that “Painting isn’t just aesthetic; it’s protective…it can shield your home or business from weather damage,” which can cause issues like moisture seepage or wood rot. In turn, this can extend “the life of your building materials.” Choosing the right paint can save you money in other ways, too. High-quality, durable paints “can withstand the test of time and environmental factors,” which also saves you money in the long run.
Every customer who reviewed VR Painting and Contracting on the Angi website gave the company a 5-star review, and many of their compliments were similar. They described the company as fabulous, excellent, and wonderful. The work was professional, efficient, and fairly priced, and many commented that the workers went “out of their way” to ensure everything on the customer’s list was completed. For more comments and details about their services, Rolando also directs potential customers to his Instagram account: vrpaintnc. If you are looking for excellent painting or contracting services from a professional and friendly Middleton-based company, why not start with VR Painting and Contracting?
HOW TRITON AUTO SPA COMBINES SUSTAINABILITY, TOP-TIER SERVICE, AND GENERATIONS OF AUTO PASSION.
Clay Carlson, co-owner/operator of Triton Auto Spa, is a self-described “car enthusiast.” He grew up in the retail car business, working with his dad and grandfather in their General Motors dealership. After graduating from Northwood University in Automotive Marketing and the NADA Dealer Academy, Clay spent 15 years owning and managing car dealerships around Madison. But as the auto industry evolved, Clay found himself ready for a change.
Through a family connection, Clay met the owner of Mermaid Car Wash. He expressed interest in the business if it ever went up for sale. That moment came in April of 2017, and Triton Auto Spa was born. The original East Madison location expanded to Middleton, where a state-of-the-art facility opened in 2021.
“It’s not just a clean car, it’s a lifestyle,” Clay says. “My family knows we never leave town or attend an event (including church) in a dirty car.”
Triton prides itself on being an environmentally safe car wash. Under its Green Initiative, Clay installed 264 retrofit solar panels. The business uses ozone-safe products, “science to clean cars, not brushes,” and a trench pit system to keep chemicals out of groundwater. The concern for safety also extends to Triton’s employees and strengthens consistent quality control.
“If it fits in the building, we can detail it,” Clay says. Triton offers a wide range of full-service car wash and detail options. They can serve everything from sedans to SUVs to boats and RVs – and yes, there are completely equipped, self-serve dog wash stations too. Additionally, customers can request disinfectant and biohazard cleaning. To top it off, Triton offers a drive-thru Moka coffee shop on site.
Triton is a family business. Clay’s wife and three children tend to Triton’s landscaping and decorations inside the business. His son folded towels at Triton for his first summer job. Triton Auto Spa combines a legacy of cars, quality, and family into a successful business.
