As fall rolls in, we’re all about slowing down and paying attention to the little things that bring joy. In this issue, we’ve got some fabulous features in our lineup. If you haven’t dined at Latuli yet, the stunning new restaurant here in Memorial, book your table now! Every detail, from the decor to the food, is absolute perfection – a place you’ll be eager to make a regular spot. We also sat down with Hallie Henley Sims, a local designer with a beautifully tailored and classic take on luxury and style. Plus, we’re excited to spotlight all the great work MetroNational is doing in our community – building new relationships and strengthening old ones. Their legacy and impact on the Memorial area are enduring, and there’s so much more on the horizon. And for our cover story, Beyond the Bottle, we’re thrilled to feature Vineyard Wine Cellars, a family-owned business out of Dallas that recently made a splash in Houston last year! They are masters at creating custom climate-controlled spaces for your wine collection – perfect for our local connoisseurs looking to elevate their wine game. Latuli blends personal storytelling, Gulf Coast roots, and thoughtful design into an elevated, welcoming destination.
Latuli's bar is one of the most sought-after spots in the restaurant. Photo by Frank Francis
When guests walk into Latuli, they may not know that every element, from the hand-troweled plaster walls to the terracotta lamps overhead, was chosen with purpose. But they can feel it. Located in the Memorial neighborhood, the style of Latuli is a collaboration between co-owner Allison Knight, chef
Bryan Caswell, and Alfredo Paredes Studio. "I've had so many people tell me it feels like they're sitting in someone's home," Knight said. "That's exactly how I want them to feel." The idea for Latuli took shape over a period of more than three years. "The design part probably

took about 27 months," Knight said. "It started as a much smaller project in our heads." But once the team chose the site and brought in Paredes, known for his layered interiors and narrative style, the scale expanded.
The restaurant features custom-built furniture and a layout that feels inviting. "All the tables are custom," said Knight. "The chairs are Alfredo's design, but we had a different vendor make them." The design choices strike a balance between

beautiful design and practical needs. "Bryan and I worked on the floor plan together," she added. "He was very focused on the functionality of everything. I didn't think about things like how many swipes the fabric could take. He brought that perspective." Caswell's culinary influence is evident throughout the space, especially in the visual language of land and sea. "We tried to weave both of our stories together," Knight said. "He's very much a water person, so we tried to bring in those elements, the fish, the materials, to complement that." The theme carries into the bar, which features artwork tied to hunting, fishing, and rodeo culture. "The bar is definitely in high demand," Knight noted. "But people love the main dining room too. It feels comfortable."
Latuli's art collection also holds personal meaning, with approximately 30 percent of the pieces coming from Knight's home. "My husband loves John P. Cowan and has been collecting his work for a while," she said. "I love Fritz Scholder and Alex Katz. We also included two signed Picasso prints, because I am a big Picasso person." Some pieces had been in storage. "The cow prints were actually in our guest room closet. I laid everything out and asked my husband, 'Which ones are off limits?' It seemed silly not to share them." That approach to an elevated ambiance extends to how the restaurant works for all types of diners. The space is refined but not rigid. "It's meant to be welcoming for kids and families," Knight said. "We worked hard to make sure it's functional and not just beautiful." That philosophy is especially visible

on the patio, which includes lawn games and space to linger. Even the name Latuli was chosen with family in mind; it comes from the first two letters of Knight's three children's names: Lawson, Tucker, and Lillie. But the focus of the restaurant wasn't just on telling her own story. "I want people to forget they're in Houston when they walk in," she said. "I want them to feel like they're somewhere else, maybe on vacation, wherever this reminds them of." Much of the material sourcing was local to Houston and Texas. Gas lanterns were created by a Houston artist, Sheryl Stringer. Doro, a local woodworker, made beams and breadboards. "They made all of the cutting boards and the serving boards, too," Knight said. "Their crew was here seven days a week at one point, and they take so much pride in their work." In the end, nothing was too small to consider. The team collaborated on tile patterns, lighting, acoustics, and even the feel of the menus. "We just wanted every detail to feel intentional, and for the space to last." Latuli is not trying to recreate any one place. Instead, it holds space for memory, for comfort, and for a kind of personal luxury that doesn't exclude anyone. "I hesitate to call the design anything specific," Knight said. "Everyone has something in their head, and that's what I want them to feel." latuli.com

ELITE CONCIERGE MEDICINE MD² Houston River Oaks Sets the Standard for Personalized Medicine In Houston’s prestigious River Oaks, MD² (“MD squared”) continues to set the gold standard for concierge medicine. As one of the most respected names in private primary care, MD² offers a healthcare experience that is truly personalized, physician-led, and available 24/7, without compromise. At MD², patients receive elite primary care from two of Houston’s most accomplished physicians: Dr. Karen Baerenstecher, a board-certified internist, and Dr.
Hal Condara, a nationally recognized cardiologist. Together, they deliver exceptional personalized primary care, each serving just 50 families to ensure unmatched attention and availability. “MD² is medicine the way it was meant to be: personal, proactive, and always accessible,” says Dr. Baerenstecher. “Our patients know we are always here, no matter the hour or the need.”
Advertisement Meet the Physicians Dr. Baerenstecher, a native Houstonian and board-certified internist, is beloved by patients for her thoughtful, relationship-centered approach. Dr. Baerenstecher has a strong foundation in preventive care and longevity medicine. A graduate of Texas A&M and the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, she served as a clinical professor of internal medicine and built a thriving solo practice before joining MD² Houston. Dr. Condara, board-certified in internal medicine and cardiology, has been named to Texas Top Doctors multiple times. His career spans over three decades, with deep roots at Memorial Hermann Memorial City where he served as Chief of Cardiology and the Texas Heart Institute. Known for his forward-thinking and compassionate approach, Dr. Condara’s experience is instrumental in navigating cutting-edge AI-driven diagnostics and prescribing state-of-the-art prevention plans with quality and longevity in mind. An Unrivaled Model of Care MD² offers a level of access and service unheard of in traditional medicine. Patients have direct access to their personal physician via phone, text, or in-person visits. Care coordination is one-on-one, often including the physician’s presence at specialist appointments. When traveling, patients receive personalized medical kits and worldwide support. Visits are never rushed, and there are no waiting rooms or overlapping appointments. The monthly fee of $2,000 per individual includes all care and services provided in the office. “Our relationship with each patient is truly comprehensive,” says Dr. Condara. “Whether it’s managing complex care or simply being a trusted resource at their convenience, we’re fully present in every aspect of their health.”
A Legacy of Innovation Dr. Howard Maron, former team physician for the NBA’s Seattle Supersonics, founded MD² in1996 to answer a bold question: What would it mean to practice medicine in the ideal? Nearly 30 years later, that vision remains intact, with practices in select cities and a commitment to serving just 50 families per physician.
To inquire about becoming one of the 100 families at MD² Houston, please call (713) 568-8643 or visit www.md2.com MD² Houston 2001 Kirby Drive, Houston, TX 77019

A banquette in channel - tufted fabric and an oval Tulip Table complete the kitchen breakfast nook. Wallpaper in soft purple tones envelops this primary bedroom.
Hallie Henley Sims’ mother was a teacher, but she loved home projects – her own as well as those of friends, and a young Hallie tagged along when she shopped for treasures for the home. It was inevitable that when Hallie was in fifth grade was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up she would write: interior designer. When she was a freshman at Oklahoma University, Hallie met her now-husband Will Sims, who works in the oil and gas industry. She earned her bachelor’s degree in interior design there, then a master’s degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design. After working for Duncan Miller Ullmann’s hospitality division in Dallas and then Courtney Hill Interiors in Houston, Hallie opened her own firm, Hallie Henley Design. Her style is traditional, classic and refined with updated modern touches, and her projects are filled with rich color, pattern and textures. “Throughout all of our projects is a love of color and pattern,” said the 41-year-old mother of two. “It’s funny coming from a background in hospitality design, you wanted to create things that are super trendy because they redesign every couple of years to stay current. In home design, you don’t want the client to redo everything in five years. That’s something that’s really important to me.” Hallie, chosen as a Houston Design District Leader in Design, loves vintage and antique pieces she sources at antiques stores and on visits to antique shows in Round Top, but also appreciates new things available through improved technology. One example: large-scale wallpaper murals that used to be hand painted but can be done more effectively with digital printing. Hallie and her family vacation in Telluride every summer so one dream project is to design a home there, and another big dream – after designing many bespoke pieces for clients – is to someday launch her own furniture collection.

Pie Tap, Prosciutto Pie.
PIE TAP BRINGS CRAVE-WORTHY PIZZA, SCRATCH-MADE FARE, AND A SIGNATURE CRUST CRAFTED WITH CARE AND CHARACTER. Pie Tap has officially arrived in Houston, bringing its sought-after gourmet pizza and scratch-made fare. Known for its Italian-inspired dough made without commercial yeast or additives, the result is a crisp, flavorful crust that’s not only easier to digest, but extra delicious. The menu features more than just standout pizzas. Diners can feast on house-made pastas, hearty dishes including rotisserie chicken and Wagyu smashburgers, as well as appetizers such as garlic rosemary bread puffs and chicken meatballs. From the bar, there’s a mix of handcrafted cocktails, wines by the glass, and a robust list of over 30 wines and beers on tap. Not sure what to order? The Prosciutto Pie has just the right amount of toppings, cheese, and sauce, all topped onto Pie Tap’s one-of-a-kind crust. pie-tap.com
THE TOPPINGS
THE CRUST
THE SAUCE
At Pie Tap, the dough is the foundation, and it’s treated with extra-special care. Chef Giovanni Mauro created a sourdough recipe that rests for 48 hours, giving it a rich flavor and chewy texture. “That slow fermentation is what sets us apart,” Mauro says. “You get depth without the heaviness.”

C HE F ’S SE LE CT ION | FOOD + BE VE RAGE
Each topping is chosen to complement the crust. “Salty prosciutto pairs with the sweet dates for contrast, while the pistachios add crunch and subtle nuttiness,” says General Manager Caitlin Cicchetti. “Fresh arugula brings a peppery bite, and the house ricotta provides a creaminess that ties it all together.”
THE CHEESE
Pie Tap leans into restraint when it comes to cheese. “House ricotta is piped on the pizza. It adds a light, delicate richness that balances the salty prosciutto and sweet dates,” says Cicchetti.
“Date sauce is used instead of the traditional tomato base,” she notes. “The sweetness of the dates brings out the salty, savory notes of the prosciutto and complements the creamy ricotta. It is intentionally used to create a sweet and savory balance that makes it unique.”

WHAT BEAUTY OR SELF-CARE ITEMS DO YOU ALWAYS KEEP IN YOUR BAG? Cocoa butter, Michael Kors & Glow Vanilla Almond & Salted Caramel perfume mist. I am probably the most basic self-care girl out there.
The Plant Project Postcards As a small business owner, you should always be talking about your business. Clip-On Earrings My ears aren’t pierced and I always lose them, so backups are a must. Cutting of a Plant I’m always pruning or making sure the shop plants look beautiful. My Son’s Eyeglass Band He plays basketball and always forgets his, so I keep a spare in my purse. Cocoa Butter It moisturizes everything including lips, elbows, heels. Always essential.
ARE KEYCHAINS OR BAG CHARMS PART OF YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? I love my Labubu, and I have one on my purse. My boutique in M-K-T Heights is next door to Beauty Shop which had them displayed by the door. It was instant love.

Kids Meals Houston
At MetroNational, relationships have always been the foundation of the company, a 70-year legacy that continues to guide its work today. MetroNational’s commitment to “building better lives” extends beyond real estate development and into the heart of the Memorial community through its philanthropic efforts. From partnering with local nonprofits and supporting tenants to investing in the community, meaningful connections remain at the heart of everything the company does. This summer, MetroNational launched the season with purpose and heart by hosting an evening on The Lawn at Memorial City in partnership with Kids’ Meals, Inc. and CEO Beth Harp. The pre-fundraising soiree offered an exclusive preview of what’s to come at this year’s 17th Annual Harvest Luncheon, set for November 4, 2025. This year’s luncheon is especially meaningful: MetroNational CEO Jason Johnson and Director of Community Development Stacy Johnson will proudly serve as Co-Chairs for the signature fundraising event, which directly supports Kids’ Meals and its mission
to end childhood hunger in Houston. During the evening, Jason Johnson will have the honor of acknowledging the 2025 honorees. MetroNational’s summer of impact didn’t stop there. The company participated in the Kids’ Meals 9th Annual Juice Box Challenge, rallying the Memorial City community around an ambitious goal: 15,000 juice boxes for summer deliveries. Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of tenants, employees, and tenant standout supporter Kraken, the team surpassed expectations, collecting a remarkable 20,189 juice boxes. It’s a powerful reminder that small actions, when united by shared purpose, can lead to meaningful change. For MetroNational, community isn’t just something to support, it's something to build every day. Through lasting partnerships and new collaborations, MetroNational remains committed to investing in the people, places, and programs that help the Memorial and Spring Branch areas thrive. metronational.com

Vineyard Wine Cellars blends craftsmanship and climate control to create custom wine rooms tailored to every space
For more than two decades, Vineyard Wine Cellars has helped clients across the country transform their wine storage goals into custom, climate-controlled spaces. Long before glass-front wine rooms became showpieces in homes and restaurants, the company was already imagining the future of wine storage. CONTINUED >

From sleek wine walls to full-scale cellars, each design balances storage, preservation and visual impact.
“There were only a handful of companies like ours when we got started in the early 2000s,” says Sarah Palmer, who now leads the business her parents founded. “We are still one of the few in operation under the same ownership. That longevity speaks to our vision and our willingness to evolve with the industry.” Headquartered in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on family property that includes a working vineyard, Vineyard Wine Cellars recently expanded with a showroom in the Houston Design Center. Although they have worked in the Houston market for years, this marks the company’s first physical location in the city. Their projects span all 50 states, the Caribbean, and Mexico. “We work at the intersection of the construction, interior design, and wine industries,” Palmer says. “All three are thriving, and we enjoy helping clients bring those elements together in cohesive, beautiful ways.”

“Opening our showroom in Houston has been exciting. We have had Unlike companies that only offer what they manufacture themselves, Vineyard Wine Cellars partners with top-tier brands to deliver a wide variety of materials, styles, and storage systems. “We are not limited to a single product line,” Palmer explains. “That allows us to scale projects up or down and match any aesthetic, whether it’s a compact wine wall in a dining room or a complex commercial installation.” Today’s clients are asking for more than traditional walk-in cellars. Wine walls have gained popularity because they save space and create a visual impact. “You can pull just two feet from the end of a wall and create a high-capacity, elegant design,” Palmer says. In hospitality spaces, wine lockers and cabinets are making a comeback. “People want more than just a good meal out. They want their bottle of wine pulled from a personal locker. That level of experience matters.” Design trends continually move the category forward and what started in basements is now often located at the heart of the home. “We are seeing wine rooms placed right at the entryway or in the main entertaining areas,” Palmer says. Materials like walnut, white oak, and mahogany are back in style, often finished with clean lines and contemporary hardware. Brass accents are also popular, and leather is becoming an elevated choice, used for drawer fronts, countertops, or wall panels behind wine displays. Lighting is both a visual and technical consideration. Vineyard works closely with designers to create ambiance while also accounting for heat output, which affects climate control. “Every element in a wine room has to be both beautiful and functional,” Palmer says. Whether designing for a seasoned collector or someone just starting to explore wine, the team at Vineyard Wine Cellars builds each space to fit both

lifestyle and taste. “Some clients know exactly how they want to organize their bottles,” Palmer says. “Others are starting fresh. We help them create something that works now and grows with them over time.” In response to growing demand, Vineyard Wine Cellars has expanded its offerings in Houston to include secure wine storage. Located adjacent to their showroom, the facility offers a reliable solution for those who want to protect their collections from power outages or need overflow storage. The service includes concierge support and 24/7 access through a dedicated app. “Our customers had been asking for wine storage for years,” says Palmer. “So when we made the move to Houston, we knew it was the right time to add that service. It’s been very well received.” vineyardwinecellars.com S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 5 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM / M E M O R I A L

FIND THE THEME THAT UNIQUELY REFLECTS YOUR LIFESTYLE, BUDGET AND PREFERENCES. show their age without having authentic vintage charm. For those seeking a simple refresh that doesn't involve a complete renovation, updating curtains and cushions can offer a noticeable transformation with minimal effort. Julie Taylor, a long-time employee of Interior Fabrics' sister store in Dallas, has been working with interior decorators, fashion designers, and avid DIY fans for decades by introducing them to the many different styles available for custom curtains. Through her years of experience, Taylor has seen various trends come and go. To ensure a timeless look for decor staples like draperies, she encourages her clients to focus on their style. "There are many fads out there, but the most important aspect of decorating your home is to find the theme that uniquely reflects your lifestyle, budget, and preferences," reflects Taylor. "What's important is mixing styles when transforming rooms from the
guidance into current home decor trends. "Currently, many customers are swapping grays and whites for color. Incorporating printed fabrics and layering printed fabrics creates an exciting look. Other design trends I am seeing include color-drenched spaces, wallpaper, and sophisticated window treatments. Cafe curtains, cornices, and panels with tape trim are in demand," she says. Taylor continues, "While some people still prefer a pattern with a traditional theme, they're kicking it up a notch with small touches of animal print. Often, more adventurous decorators will choose a bold color for their furniture and curtains to create a 'wow' impact." Creating a dream space begins with imagination. Taylor and Parker encourage customers to utilize digital tools, such as Pinterest and Canva, to visualize their ideas.

BRING YOUR IDEAS TO LIFE
• Be open to new ideas and mixing styles. A more current trend is for not everything in the room to match, but for it to coordinate and complement each other. For instance, a fun print can add a touch of style to a more traditional frame. • Focus on the colors and textures you love. Don't be afraid to experiment with color combinations. • If you have a favorite art piece or heirloom, let that be your inspiration and build from there. • Consider your lifestyle and choose a style that reflects that. Choose fabrics that you can maintain and that you won't tire of quickly. • If you are new to design, it's often a good idea to be creative with pillows, benches, and home accents, as those items can be easily switched out. For larger or more expensive projects, such as furniture or draperies, opt for timeless fabrics. • Use pictures and samples to create a mood board (either digitally or physically). • After completing research and deciding on the project's direction, seek a second opinion from a professional for their expert advice. • It helps to walk into a store, like Interior Fabrics, to feel inspired. With 5,000 square feet of options to choose from, homeowners and decorators can easily select what they like and then personalize it with their preferred fabric choice. fabricresource.com/houston 713-782-3311 fabricsfondren@yahoo.com

Travis Club, a luxurious lakefront community nestled among 1,500 acres on Lake Travis in Austin, features panoramic views, authentic regional materials, and purposeful design elements for both indoor and outdoor living, creating a one-of-a-kind lakefront setting. “The architectural style of Travis Club reflects a modern interpretation of Texas Hill Country – clean lines, lowslung forms, and a focus on natural materials that blend seamlessly into the landscape,” explains Chris Wells, Director of Sales at Travis Club. Designed with a relaxed yet refined aesthetic, homes in the Travis Club community feature native and regional materials, including natural limestone, metal, stucco, and wood, to provide durability and a timeless appeal. Many homesites are oriented and elevated to maximize views of Lake Travis, featuring expansive windows that incorporate daylight to create bright spaces with natural light and showcase beautiful views of the Texas Hill Country. The lakefront setting is integral to the design of a home. Large outdoor living areas, covered patios, courtyards, verandas, and pool terraces prioritize seamless indoor-outdoor living, enhancing the quality of life for families in their homes. "Homes in the community are designed to harness prevailing breezes, mitigate sun exposure, and create privacy that encourages outdoor living," explains Wells. The amenities at Travis Club are architectural extensions of the natural environment. From lakefront settings at Duke's and The Peninsula Club, to a world-class golf course that embraces the natural topography of the land, the community spaces' materials and design echo those of the homes, ensuring a focus on family, wellness, and nature for residents. travisclubaustin.com

As temperatures continue to stay warm, skincare is all about protection, hydration, and maintaining a healthy glow. Josie Barnard, PA-C at Skin Pharm Houston, says, “One of my favorite combination treatments is microneedling with PRP paired with Botox or Dysport. This duo smooths fine lines, improves skin texture, and delivers a refreshed appearance.” She also uses Botox or Dysport to treat underarm hyperhidrosis, which she says “can be a game changer during the warmer months.” Barnard also recommends Skinvive, an injectable moisturizer that helps skin retain moisture from within for deep hydration. She emphasizes that daily sunscreen and a consistent routine are essential all summer. Read more about Skin Pharm Houston’s best treatments to extend that summer glow through fall.
Sculptra Sculptra is an injectable that helps the skin naturally boost collagen over time, working to smooth, firm, and refresh the appearance. It targets volume loss in areas like the cheeks, temples, and chin, with results lasting up to two years. For best results, 2–4 injection sessions or 3–4 microneedling treatments are recommended, spaced every 4–6 weeks.
Botox & Dysport
Skin Pharm Houston offers several treatments and products that are perfect for a seasonal glow. Photo by Beauty Agent Studio.
Botox and Dysport are injectables used to relax lines and wrinkles, helping to soften expression lines for a more refreshed look. These treatments use naturally occurring proteins to ease stiff muscles and smooth the skin within days. They’re performed by board-certified providers who focus on a natural appearance. For lasting results, treatments are typically recommended every 3–4 months.
Filler Filler is used to subtly smooth fine lines and restore volume in areas that have lost fullness over time. It offers instant results with minimal downtime and uses ingredients like hyaluronic acid to help lift and contour the face. Treatments are performed by board-certified providers who focus on natural-looking results. For best outcomes, maintenance is typically recommended every 6–12 months.
Skinvive This hyaluronic acid skin booster is designed to treat dullness and fine lines while improving hydration for a lasting glow. It’s injected as microdroplets to boost collagen, increase moisture, and soften the skin. It’s ideal for improving skin laxity, smoothing fine lines, and enhancing radiance. Results are typically visible within four weeks and can last up to six months. Treatments are recommended every six months. skinpharm.com S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 5 | C I TYL I FE STYL E .
