Welcome June and Happy Father’s Day!
Have you ever paused to think about the impact fathers have on their homes and families? The truth is, the role of a father is immeasurable. Fathers shape homes, nurture growth, and provide the foundation upon which children can thrive. And as a dad, the level of impact you choose to have is entirely in your hands.
A father’s gifts are unique and lasting; their strength, words, and guidance all create an impact that ripples through generations. Here are just a few of the ways fathers build up their homes:
• A father’s strength can be a steady anchor.
• Their words can encourage and inspire.

We pride ourselves in raising hormone and soy free Wagyu beef. Wagyu is a treasure trove of nutrients including protein, iron, B12 trace minerals and much more. It contains a high proportion of omega-3 and omega six which are essential for heart health and can contribute to overall wellness. Due to its rich flavor and tenderness, smaller portions can be incredibly satisfying, allowing diners to enjoy high-quality beef with potentially fewer calories.

A HALF-DOZEN WAYS TO GET YOUR MONEY’S WORTH FROM MCDL
ARTICLE BY TINA SABOL | PHOTOGRAPHY
If the last time you visited the library involved a stamped duedate card tucked inside the back cover, you’ve been missing out on decades of incredible perks, like great deals, free entertainment, and lasting memories. Even if you’ve simply drifted away from reading or library visits altogether, there are plenty of reasons to stop by, rediscover Medina County District Library (MCDL), and get hooked all over again.
TOOLS AND TECH
Don’t be a tool. Borrow them from the library. Beyond books, MCDL offers a surprising lineup of practical (and just plain fun) items you can check out for free. Tackle your next home project with a stud finder or thermal leak detector, troubleshoot your car with a fault code reader, or get energy-smart with a Kill A Watt electricity monitor. You can even borrow a radon detector for added peace of mind.
BY MEDINA COUNTY DISTRICT LIBRARY
And it’s not all work — plan your next outdoor adventure with binoculars, try your luck with a metal detector, or pick up a pickleball set for some friendly competition. It’s all available at Medina Library now, with more locations rolling out these offerings throughout the year.
HISTORY EVENTS AND GENEALOGY
History buff much? MCDL is hosting several America 250 events this summer, from Celebrating Independence to Exploring the American Presidency. In addition, the Family History and Learning Center features an expansive history collection and offers one-on-one genealogy help. You can even use equipment to convert home movies from reels or VHS, scan family photos to digital, and convert slides to photos.
PASSPORTS
Plan a getaway or surprise your family with a vacation. First step? Get your passport at the library. Available at the Medina, Brunswick, and Lodi locations, staff will take your picture, ensure the forms are completed perfectly, and even mail it for you. Call to make an appointment to get the undivided attention of a passport agent during your session.
ADVENTURE PASSES
Stay close to home and go on a free family outing with MCDL’s Adventure Passes. Borrow one for up to a week and get free admission, parking, and discounts at the Akron Zoo, Akron Art Museum, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, Cleveland Botanical Gardens and Holden Arboretum, and the Brunswick Rec Center. Just one use can equal $120 value.
“Passport services are available at MCDL’s Medina, Brunswick, and Lodi locations. The staff will take your picture, help fill out the necessary forms, and mail in your passport application.”
“Storytime session at MCDL are offered multiple times a week at varying locations. Registration is open now for session up to August 1.”
STORYTIMES
Dads and Grandpas encouraged! Storytime is a chance to bond with little ones while they learn social and early literacy skills. Reading to children and attending story times is proven to improve a child’s success in school.
Storytime is jam-packed with entertainment, plenty of new friends, and a lot of singing and dancing. If you’re lucky, we’ll get out the parachute and bubble machine! Registration is open now for the summer sessions that run through August 1.
SUMMER READING
Get down and dirty this summer with our dinosaur-themed Summer Reading Game. Bring your kids or grandkids to our six locations to play the reading challenge, win great prizes, and attend some of our biggest events like Dino Detectives with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, a DNA workshop hosted by the Great Lakes Science Center, a reptile meet and greet, and a dinosaur puppet show. When kids read over the summer it prevents the “summer slide” in reading skills, setting them up for a smooth transition back to school in August and for a successful school year ahead.
LIBRARY CARD
A library card is not just for checking out books. Think of it as a pre-loaded debit card that you swipe to get all the items and services you want at the library for free. Tired of paying for streaming services? Try Hoopla and Kanopy for movies, TV series, and music downloads. Access our online learning collection to view investment and business advice, Chilton vehicle repair handbooks, access to ConsumerReports.org, and customizable legal forms.
Finally, with all the noise in the world, why not slow down and listen to a good audiobook on the way to work from our Libby app? Ready to stop in or get an eCard online? We’ll see you soon or visit us at MCDL.info.

CELEBRATE FATHER’S DAY AND SUMMER EVENTS WITH CUSTOM CREATIONS FROM BUBBLES AND BOWS
MORE THAN JUST BALLOONS
ARTICLE BY ERIN BAKA PHOTOGRAPHY
BY BUBBLES AND BOWS
“BUBBLES AND BOWS’ MISSION REMAINS SIMPLE YET POWERFUL: TO BRING JOY WITH INTENTION.”
What began as a simple request to decorate for her twin grandchildren’s second birthday quickly turned into something much more meaningful for Christy Overman, owner of Bubbles and Bows located in Medina. That one celebration sparked an unexpected passion for balloon artistry, opening the door to a creative path she hadn’t planned but instantly fell in love with. At the time, Christy was deeply rooted in a corporate retail career, having spent her entire professional life in that space. But as her side project grew, so did her excitement for it, eventually leading her to make the bold decision to step away from the corporate world and pursue her balloon business full time.
Now, six years later, Bubbles and Bows has firmly established itself as a staple in Medina. With multiple moves into larger spaces and steady growth year after year, the business continues to evolve. Backed by a dedicated team, the mission remains simple yet powerful: to bring joy with intention. Serving a loyal base of returning clients, referrals, and new faces, many of whom become lasting connections, the business has become more than just a creative outlet.
“WHETHER YOU’RE HONORING A FATHER FIGURE IN A WAY THAT FEELS THOUGHTFUL OR THROWING A JULY FOURTH BLOCK PARTY, BUBBLES AND BOWS’ CUSTOM CREATIONS BRING A PERSONAL TOUCH THAT STANDS OUT.”
One of the standout elements that truly sets Bubbles and Bows apart is their signature bubble balloon — an eye-catching, fully customizable piece that can be filled with just about anything to match the moment. From confetti and florals to themed colors and personalized touches, each design becomes a one-of-a-kind statement for any occasion. As the only business in the area offering this unique style, Christy has carved out a creative niche that keeps clients coming back for something fresh and memorable. She consistently stays ahead of the curve by leaning into seasonal color palettes, evolving party trends, and bringing a level of creativity that blends imagination with strategic execution.
With Father’s Day around the corner, it’s the perfect opportunity to think outside the box. Imagine surprising the father figure in your life with a custom bubble balloon filled with their favorite team colors. It’s an unexpected, personalized way to celebrate and, true to their mission, bring joy on purpose.
At the heart of Bubbles and Bows is a philosophy that they have something for everyone — not just one type of customer
or celebration. Whether it’s a large-scale corporate installation designed to make a bold statement or a simple, elegant table piece for an intimate gathering, every idea is treated with the same level of care and creativity. No vision is too big or small. Christy and her team pride themselves on listening closely to each client and bringing their unique ideas to life, transforming inspiration into something tangible, memorable, and joy filled.
With Father’s Day, summer events, and the Fourth of July fast approaching, there’s no better time to experience what Bubbles and Bows has to offer. Whether you’re honoring a father figure in a way that feels thoughtful or throwing a July Fourth block party, their custom creations bring a personal touch that stands out.

AN EXCERPT FROM EPISODE 6 OF SHARE THE LIFESTYLE, A CITY LIFESTYLE PODCAST
Photographer: Brittany Dawn Short
Creative Director: Jen Birn
Stylist: Stephanie Coultress O’Neill
Location: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX
MIKE JOHNSON HAS BUILT HIS LIFE AROUND ONE QUIETLY RADICAL IDEA: THE STANDARD YOU SET PRIVATELY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.
After eight years in the Air Force, a celebrated run on national television, and a health crisis abroad that sent him deep into supply chains and ingredient certifications most founders never touch, the result is Oshun — a luxury ritual brand built on provenance you can trace and integrity you can verify. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Mike shares what it actually takes to build something worth putting your name on. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full episode.
Q: YOU BECAME A FAN FAVORITE ON THE BACHELORETTE AND THEN LEFT THE SPOTLIGHT. YOU MOVED TO MEXICO, LEARNED SPANISH, THEN COSTA RICA, AND BUILT A COMPANY. WHAT DID THAT EXPERIENCE TEACH YOU ABOUT HUMAN BEHAVIOR?
A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”
THE QUIET STANDARD:
MIKE JOHNSON
“Too many people have prayed for me. So I’ve got to get up and do the walking.”
— Mike Johnson
Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?
A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”
Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?
A: “The EU bans 1,100 ingredients in personal care products. The U.S. bans nine. That’s my starting point. Oftentimes, it might be the same ingredient, but it comes from a place where it doesn’t have the highest purity. And 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed. Every product Oshun makes carries a batch number that goes back to the exact day it was created — I can show you every single supplier, the date, the origin. I own more than one part of the supply chain because that’s the only way I can stand behind what’s in the bottle.”
This conversation is just the beginning. Mike goes deeper into why he’s buying land up north, the family in the Philippines who prayed over his factory floor, and what he’d tell every person ready to stop performing and start building.
